Hi! Great, fresh take on presenting a classic car. Also, very cool of you to include the caution about old plastic and vinyl. 60 Fury is hard to beat for over-the-top, and your review captured that space age optimism and Marvin-the-Martian futurism that made these cars so unrepeatable. All the best from another car addict... cheers!

The right hand drive 1960 and1961 Dodges and Desotos used that same 1960 Plymouth dash, in right hand drive form of course. Here in New Zealand, due to strict Government import regulations of the time, heaters and radios were not usually factory supplied on locally or even many fully assembled cars, but locally made aftermarket units could be fitted if an owner so desired. Instead of multiple push buttons for the heater controls, we just had two buttons for fresh air labelled "Air" and and "Off". Right hand drive versions had the indicator stalk on the left side of the column when it would normally be mounted on the right, but everything else on the dash was just a mirror image. My grandfather had a right hand drive 1961 Dodge Pioneer for many years, so that dash is very familiar.

You sold me I'm heading now to my local Plymouth dealer to get one. Today I mistake one car for another . I have trouble distinguishing a Toyota, Honda, Kia , whatever . When I was growing up there was no mistaking a car brand for another. You knew what it was the moment you saw it coming down the road. Even from a distance. Not today they look pretty much the same. One jelly bean looks like another.

The over the top/fin thing had actually sort of come and gone when these came out with styling referencing the 1957's, but in a totally new unit body structure. But as with all Exner cars, no matter how insane the styling was it was done perfectly. It was all perfectly balanced without anything a bit out of place and all just worked.
He's right about the space age optimism. The other side of modernism in cars came next year with the 1961 Engel Lincolns - totally MidMod inside and out but buttoned down while being radical in a subtle way with the strictly linear and rectangular sides, streamlined body in between, and curved glass with the most radical tumblehome up to that point.
Too bad the original owner cheaped out on the excellent integrated factory air and the power windows though. And that's the small V8, completely different from the larger and more modern ones offered.
And yes I noticed another perfect MidMod house setting - and with a view!

The fins were on their way out, yes; but they hadn't "come and gone". Just look at the 1960 Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, etc. All still had fins in 1960.

Weird, but so is the car. Well done. And, as one who remembers the days of its youth, these were by no means rare sights, in spite of the few which survive. This was one of the last cars needing vertical stabilizers and then tastes just moved on and most of the finned cars went onto ignominious ends in crushers. Even the engines were unwanted as more modern formats were introduced. But the big announcer's voice is just right for the fabulous Fury.

We are having a great life, no COVID 19. The most attractive four door car in 1960. Obviously the bright trim and fabrics help. The Plymouth Fury was built for warm weather states, obviously the farther you lived from salt water the better. These melted away in northern states and in the provinces of Canada, except for Alberta.
