5 kids?? You got it easy girl. My first time they gave a me a book, showed me page twelve and said...There go teach. I had 50 little faces staring at me. no experience no tefl ziltch...It was awesome..
It happened to me two times. Sixty students in a class I just left those schools. It's not easy to teach more than 15 students in each class.
lol that sounds funny cool,i am from South Africa and contemplating to go teach there in 2020

Thank you SO MUCH for this girl!!! Especially the resources
Living with anxiety and teaching in front of a class full of kids who doesn't speak a word in English. Wow hats off to you woman!!
Thanks a lot for this video and links, it's so useful.
Thank you so much. I truly treasures all the resources you have linked.
Thank you so much for generously sharing your tips and experience such useful information!
So glad I stumbled upon your video! And now I have more videos of yours to watch! I will hopefully be going to China to teach English in about 5-8 weeks, the links will be so helpful! Thank you!
These days a growing number of English-speaking foreigners choose to go to China to work, and most of them work as an English teacher. That is very good! Traditionally, English education in China has always focused on test or exam rather than daily communication, which testifies why too many Chinese students who have learned English for years cannot even speak it fluently. If there are more native-speakers like you working in schools, it would be beneficial for Chinese students as they will have more chances to practice their oral English.
That's pretty much why I don't speak good Spanish, French or German. Lol. At least I am VERY good with English.

Thank you so much! I wish I had found this before I left! I have been here about two weeks, and it has been chaos so far. I am primarily teaching in Jinan and doing something or another in smaller cities around here :) I have zero experience and know zero Chinese! I never planned on coming, but then my brother-in-law was contacted by a company starting a program here and asked for some help! You were very encouraging. I am so grateful!
Thank you for this video. You have a very beautiful and sparkling personality. The kids were very lucky to have a teacher like you.

I find it admirable that you just rolled with the punches in China, kudos to you for just winging it on the spot...must’ve been stressful at the time.
Very interesting content. I'm seriously thinking of doing this and already applied to a couple of places. I had a brief phone interview last night and will have a second Skype interview tomorrow. I'm trying to prep so I ask the right questions and your little videos helped a lot. I'm even more excited now to move forward with this and I am open to staying longer than a year if all goes well. Dear Lauren, thank you for such a knowledgable video. It's very useful. I am getting ready to teach English in China and will stay there for a year. I took some notes from ur video. Now I know that it may noy\t be that well structured and instructors need to prepare for the lessons on their own. I will look through your resources! Kind regards!
Are you in china now?
it's helping me so much
Very good. Fantastic
You are pretty, nice, patient and very approachable. You can be a very good teacher.

Yeah, she's the type schools will bend over backwards for if they know what they've got in such a nice, outgoing person.
Thanks!
I loved this video, You have a wonderful energy!! I loved it... Im in Xiamen
I hope you're loving China!
Hi paitogoga, I am moving to Xiamen in 6 month. I would have few questions if you don't mind :)
8:05 That'ts exactly it! You gotta be on your feet and ready act anytime if you are going to China. Many expectations are just unspoken, you are expected to know intuitively or get the hint from conversations. Trust me I'm from China.
Omg you're story is super cute! I'm moving to Hangzhou to teach for EF Education First in literally five days. I'm terrified, excited, nervous, excited, and so much more. I'm also sooooooooo thankful for your packing list. I'm using it since I'll be there for about 2 years.
Wishing you all the best on your China adventures!!
Hi Juliette,
That's one hell of a coincidence, I received an unsolicited email from English First's recruiting team for a job in Hangzhou today (he saw my CV on Tefl.com).
Would you mind letting me know how you are finding the job (and, dare I be cheeky, and ask about salary/accommodation)?
How's that company so far? I heard bad things about it
Hi juliette, I am also taking few more atepa to go to EF in China. Hows the school?
Hello! I have a job in Hangzhou as well. Can you tell me anything? I am especially excited that you're black. I have been wondering how darker skin people are treated because i have heard a number of bad stories.
Hi there ! I'm leaving in a couple months to teach English in Hangzhou & I'll definitely be taking advantage of your advice.
Are you still in Hangzhou and in teaching!
Hey :) ill be in Nanjing come October and your videos are so helpful! I am so excited to teach and eat soup dumplings 😁😆😁
Are you in china now?
omg I just found this video!! super helpful, thank you so much. I'm going to teach in China next year and I'm quite anxious but ur video made me feel better
I'm so glad!!
ARE YOU FROM MOROCCO,
+Mohamed Kherraz yess
Do you pass the CELTA or Not ?
+Mohamed Kherraz not always. there are programs that require celta and/or BA degree and/or teaching experiences. you just need to search and apply for what suits you
I'm leaving next week to teach English/Drama in two different cities. I'm very nervous, but hearing your story made me feel better about heading there!
That's so cool that you get to do drama too!! Best of luck on your adventures :) Email me if you have questions laurenwithoutfear (at) gmail.com Oh and here's more China advice if you're interested: www.laurenwithoutfear.com/category/china-travel-guide/
China is awesome. You can do it! Just have low expectations and everything will feel better.
Sounds great! Good luck!
She gets into the 5 tips at 4:50
Going to Chengdu at the end of the month, so excited to start!
Hi Lauren!
Thank you SO much for the tips and for the online resources!
I was in Beijing, Guilin and Xi'an for almost 3 weeks and I loved it! But soon I'll be moving to Hong Kong in August and hopefully teaching English-that's my hope! I'm getting my TEFL certificate soon:)
And no, I haven't visit Hong Kong but my partner is there already, and loves it! Specially because they speak English there haha
Your vides are AWESOME!
Thank you.
Hong Kong was so much easier for me to navigate than the rest of China! I think you're going to have an amazing time there :) Best of luck!!
hi Lauren
thank you for this video , it is interesting. i am now in china changsha city just finding a teaching job .
May i help you?
I've been teaching English in Nanjing for 4 and a half months now (can't believe it's been that long!) and the kids are soo cute, they're grade 1
Thanks for Vid
I've been to China twice before for non-teaching-related work in 2000 and 2007, and right now am prepping to go teach in Shanghai in February of 2019...I've been gorging myself on videos like yours to help me get ready...My first two trips to Shenzhen and Suzhou were sprung on me basically overnight (first time I was at a work meeting on a Thursday after lunch, was literally told I'd be on a plane to China for a 2-month trip the next day at dinnertime- believe me, getting shots, driving 2 hours both ways to get a Visa, packing with only 24 hours to do so is insane!!)...This time I have 4 months to pass TEFL and get all the paperwork done, put my life in order ...
I'm going to Nanjing! I taught in Wuxi in 2017 in a training centre, but this time it's a public foreign language school. It's been years since I taught classes that will be over a dozen students so I'm more than a little anxious.
Thank you for this wonderful video and those important tips. I am moving to Shanghai to teach English. Wish ne good luck hehe!
How is it going there?
Are you in china now?
I enjoyed your video. I have been looking at teaching English online to Chinese students. Do you have any advice? I think you did a wonderful job explaining your experience there. Wow! What an awesome video! I'm applying for a position as we speak. I'm debating between Korea and China.

Carpe Diem!
Thank you!! I'm so glad you're pursuing something you really want :) Best of luck!
