If you’re not comfortable with the magic circle you can chain 4, then slip knot into the first chain then do then8 single crochets into the center of the circle you created. :) it makes it a little thicker but that’s usually how I do my centre.
I watched a video yesterday that started with a magic circle. Did the stitches (sc or dc or whatever). And when it came time to slip stitch that row together, they brought up the tail from the magic circle and included it in the “yarn over” part of the slip stitch - then stitched over the tail for a bit doing the next row. Genius! It locked the magic circle in place! (If you want a better explanation or visual, I was watching a video on how to make a pocket hug)
This takes me back to when my gramma taught me how to do this when I was a little girl. I was 9, and she was so patient with me. Just like you. You’re a great teacher, and you made it seem so easy to potentially make something so beautiful. My grandma is 102 now and of course her dexterity is nothing like it was 45 years ago, but she was so happy when I showed her this. Thank you for bringing back that memory, and for making this simple for even me to understand. I think I see a sweet little handbag in my distant future if I can make 3 or 4 of these per day. Lol.
This makes me so happy to hear. Thank you for taking the time to share your story with me. Your Gramma sounds like a lovely woman. Happy crocheting. ❤️
@@paigealura1381 you can follow any granny square cardigan pattern, but there’s a good Harry styles granny square inspired cardigan from Henri Purnell and you can just create all the patches to be these :))

I accidentally made a magic loop with nine instead of eight stitches. I only realized I miscounted after I'd finished making the petals. My first daisy granny square ended up being a circle lol. After that mishap though, I made sure the rest of my squares were actually square. They look great :) This tutorial was easy to follow, slow paced enough for me to learn, and I'm excited to have such a beautiful design locked down. Thank you! I'm using a bigger yarn, so they're big enough to be coasters.
Yes I believe she meant double crochets instead of half doubles on the second corner she did. It messed up my first square but I went back and watched it carefully and it is double crochets that she did. The half doubles are only the ones in between the corners right? Either way, it’s a beautiful square. I’m making a child’s sweater with them, thank you for the tutorial.
4 months late lol but no she did mean half doubles. Because you are working to make a square out of the circular daisy, you would use a half double so all of the sides end up straight. I'm not sure why your squares were messed up. When you switch to your final color, you start with a chain of 5 in the chain 2 space of your petals. This counts as one double and a chain of two. You then dc 3× into the same space. The next space, you hdc three times. In the next space dc 3× and chain 2(or however many she said) and then dc three more times in the same space. Hdc into the next chain space and repeat until you get to where you started. In that space, dc 2× because that chain 5 counts as a dc. Each side of your square should end up straight and even unless you messed up somewhere❤❤
Bianca B hey sorry this is way later haha, but she did make a mistake in the video, there are written instructions online from the same people and they said double crochet when she said half double. Also in the video right before it skips, she does say half double but when you look at her movements it’s a double crochet. Hopefully that clears any confusion🙂
Thanks a million; you’re an Ace. You instruct so well, it’s easy to follow even without a pattern. HOWEVER… SO NICE you provide the ACTUAL PATTERN on your website with the video. It saves so much time not needing to click a bunch of links like too many other UA-cam Crochet Creators. I love this easy Daisy Granny Square. After watching, I just whipped one up & it’s just precious. I’m creating a cover for my Kitchen Aid Mixer & I bet when I assemble them, it’ll be so pretty. I’m gonna use the Daisy as the center squares with solids for the body. Thanks again for such a clear, well done explanation & of course the pattern. Definitely gonna follow your channel! 👍🏻
Thank you! This was my first flower square and I didn't know the stiches, but I changed the video to the lowest speed setting and followed along! 😌 Learned so much
i tried doing one as a trial run and it turned out great on my second one I did half doubles into the magic circle and I think it turned out a lot better that way. there was very little yellow the first time this way there is more in the center

You made this so easy. Thank you so much. I was kinda familiar with the DC and the hdc and using them together really helped my mind see the difference between the two and helped my motor functions also feel the difference between the two. This is a great learning tutorial
I gotta say I love your tutorial it’s super easy to understand and the outcome is so cute, although I was wondering how you would go about making half of the square that comes out in a triangle (or just a single corner) shape with only four pedals?
thank you so much i have been crocheting for a while but have yet to find a good tutorial but this is the one for me. I have been planning t make a cardigan for a while and you make it possible. thank you 😊😊😍😍
What a simple yet absolutely lovely little square! I'm making this in solid colour flowers and using white for the third round. I'm making the flowers in 3 different colours. I'll be putting them together to make a little doll blanket for my niece who is turning 4 soon!
Just made a sample square using 1.5" strips of fabric (old sheets) and a homemade crochet hook from a 3/8" dowel. Finished block = 7" x 7" and weighs 99g. It is super dense and will become a floor rug once I make 23 more blocks (approx 24x64 runner). Didn't time the first block, as I was learning the pattern. It's a bit of a wrestling match, seeing that the fabric is not forgiving, but I'm expecting it will take me at least 30 min per block. No one said it was going to be easy.
