Pokémon Snap - Any% Speedrun World Record History

  • Originally, on the 10th anniversary of the first documented Pokémon Snap speedrun, two friends would collaborate to make a video detailing the history of this underrated speed game. The idea morphed into what ultimately became this UA-cam channel.
Our goal is to tell the stories behind smaller speed games and categories, told by the runners themselves. We've improved our craft over the past year, and decided to revisit our first video. It's been edited from its original version to update visuals, fix factual errors or mistakes, and to pick up where the previous story left off.
You can see the original video here: • Pokémon Snap Any% Spee...
All of our interviews are uploaded HERE: • Speed Docs Interviews

    Edits and Corrections:
@18:25, we missed a video that needed to be scaled up. Whoops
@18:40, the lower third says Lvon 21:01, but it's supposed to be 20:57 as the splits show. Drogie was the one with a 21:01, just before

Not many WRs are achieved during a race, but Drogie's 20:43 was one of them.
Protoman5 vs Lvon race was one of the closest races in a video game speedrun.
Since the video was released, LiamKings (now known as Liam) achieved the 120-star WR in Super Mario 64, but has since been broken by Simply.

Momentum slowed down for a while, but Gunlap's record is just really optimized. Improving on quo's 20:35, gunlap used some new lag reduction strats to get the edge. We're kind of at the end of the road for optimization though

In 100% you have to take pictures of all 63 Pokemon. In Any%, if you maximize your points, you can get away with taking pictures of 41. There is also more run killing RNG in 100% than there is in Any%.

    Pro tip:
Do NOT put speedrunning over your education. Sure you can earn money by speedrunning if you're having a moderately big fan base but if that option disappears and you failed your clas(ses) your life devolves into an Any% instead of a 100%.

It's not Pok E mon. It's Pokémon!! (Poke EH mon). I fail to understand how so many people say the E like it's just saying the letter! Wtf!?>@#$%&!? Especially since the English localization went to the trouble of making sure the title had the dash above the " é " so people would say it correctly! And also always said it correctly in the anime.
