Sports watch for triathlon: if you already have a Garmin device I'll go for a Forerunner 745 which is more focused on triathlon and not too expensive. It has a specific profile for triathlon that will give you data for all the activities including the transitions. It is compatible with Bluetooth and Ant+, so most sensors will work just fine.
@@catayanezb Me too! Excellent price/performance. The forerunner 255's extra battery life over the 745 is impressive. For that reason alone I'd buy the 255 vs 745 if I was making a purchase now.
@@stuartmisfeldt3068 that’s what I was going to say. ;) I had a 935 until it broke now a 745. If the down button on you garmin sticks, don’t ever turn it off! You’ll have a watch that only starts up in test mode.
There are many aspects that go into choosing a new watch. I would say as a bare minimum requirement would be customizable data displays. Even better is downloading displays from other creators I can “at-a-glance” read while training.
Question regarding swimming especially in winter months. It's not really about training sessions but rather about routines around swimming workouts before work. I always wonder, for a person with normal working hours: how do you plan a swim before work, especially if you cannot afford to go back home from a swimming pool and you don't own a car..where do people leave their swimming gear and wet stuff at work? I find it such a hard task from a logistic point of view to go swimming before work that it's just not worth it. Even more so in the winter months when it is near zero degrees in the morning.. any suggestions or tips ? #gtncoachescorner
Hi Anze / you can purchase a triathlon transition bag (it usually includes a "wetpocket" where you can store wet goods) and use it for your swim gear + transition gear to go on site on raceday). Manufacturers offer those in different sizes (from 10L to 50L capacity) if going for a swim with simple gear (towel, bathing suit, cap, goggles and showergel) i use a simple plastic bag with ziplock and everything fits in a coat pocket when compressed). Hope it helps
In the off season I reckon you only need to focus on 3 things. Speed, speed and speed. But it really depends on whether you want to compete or just take part. You need to be clever too. Why would you want to dedicate hours and hours on stamina instead of technique? Specially with the swimming. If you can swim like Phelps, then fair enough. I think just train for your distance and focus on speed
I ran for years without one. Never knew my pace at all. I just ran as I felt. I still do with a watch. What ever I go out at running first mile, that's how I carry on. The watch just is an aid if needed. To many people are slaves to their watch. I know some who record their walk to get some bits from local shop. One couple I know recored their walk to/from a restaurant while holidaying in Spain. With a selfie to on strava. FFS.
Really pleased with my Coros Apex. Very durable and versatile watch and the battery life is crazy. Its also cheaper than lots of watches that have similar spec and features.
I have the coros pace 2 and it’s great! It has multisport and tri modes so I can easily track brick sessions and races. It doesn’t have a ton of fancy features but at $200 it’s an affordable multisport watch.
Great Q & A. I have one that plaques me. #gtncoachescorner I live 1.5 from the closest pool. Most of my swim training is in the lake where I live lakeside here in Canada. Obviously here in the winter the lake has 4 feet of ice and takes a while to chop through. Ice leaves in late April when I can don wetsuit and get in water. What kind of dry land excersises can I do to mimic swim conditioning or even strength? I do make that trek once a week to the pool.
I actually stopped running because I came to hate being the slave of my watch. Il was making me obliged to go for a run and on the long run that became quite unpleasant
Is it common for people to do the swim with their watch inside their swimming cap? Apparently it enables you to record GPS data whilst being in the water.. Not sure if it's worth the struggle in T1 to put it on your wrist
Just food for thought…had a 70.3 this past weekend and my swim cap and goggles were somehow snatched off. In this rare scenario I would’ve lost my watch. I suggest just keeping it on your wrist…if in competition in open water!
last weekend I tried my first sub 3h marathon. I was never as well trained (approx 80 - 100km/week) as I was last sunday. Tapered well, was completely rested, had more than enough water but still, I cramped up completely just before the half marathon point. I was not even close to my PB on the half marathon. Tough not to finish my first marathon when I have already done 15+ marathons with PB 3h14.What should I do now? Should I focus more on speed work and try to beat the race equivalent 1 mile - 5km - 10 km - 10 mile -Half marathon - 30 k before I reconsider trying to beat the 3h barrier? #gtncoachescorner #gtn
#gtncoachescorner how long do the benefits of a warm up last? I recently started running with a group and I warm up at home and then go meet them. Sometimes it will be 10-15min after I have warmed up that we start running. Is my warm up still helping at that point?
#gtncoachescorner Question: On the internet I have seen many weighted vests designed for running, but I have not seen much in terms of independent running reviews nor training plans using them. Is running with a weighted vest recommended or even safe? If so, would you provide recommendations &/or suggestions for using them?
#gtncoachescorner So I have entered my first international triathlon next October ,challenge mallorca, as a focus on training while I am working in the Falklands from June till end of September. I will mostly have to train indoors maybe a few runs outside, I am after advice of how to set up my strategy from training indoors in a cold environment to racing in hot conditions with a short 2 weeks in the UK between getting back from the Falklands and going to mallorca. Any advice please?
Have another question? Leave it under any GTN vid with #gtncoachescorner and will try to answer 🙌

The new 255 Forerunner has replaced the 745 for slightly less money.

Well done Heather on holding the fort while the boys were away playing ... err, producing Kona content.

Anyone have any info on the Garmin 955

Modern watches do record GPS data while swimming but it's not very precise. Older devices did not, so you had to do this trick.
