@@joshuaokparaocha331 no, its litterally not. Its called dissasociative identity disorder, and its actually pretty common. Its also a common plot point, glass did the same thing. Its a child like persona, a spoiled brat if you will, ome that doesnt like being told no, and will throw temper tantrums when he doesnt get what he wants. Like a child, he seeks attention and approval, and like a child he will destroy without consideration for consequences. And that other him, is just to protect his child like ego.
Just when you think you understand who homelander is he manages to make you feel sorry for him. Obviously he deserves to face his consequences for all the evil he’s done but you can’t help but see him as a victim because he is one. Vought used him and everyone else they’ve hurt. I don’t think he can be “redeemed” per say but I could see there being a storyline where he decides that he’s done with all this and flys off into space on some Omni man shit. I’m torn between wanting to see him grow and wanting to see him get curbed stomped by the boys.
Yeah sure, I completely agree. And to do this character a justice, before killing him, I would like him to somehow meet a Multiversal variant of himself from an alternate universe where he wasn't raised as an experiment by Vought, but actually got loving parents like Jonathan Kent & Martha Kent or Ben Parker & May Parker , who fulfilled him with morals and the great concept of Great Powers and Great Responsibilities, where he became someone he was always meant to be, something he was always supposed to be. I know the Homelander from that universe will have the same life as pretty much Superman, and not a complex and unique storyline as the original Homelander, but still I want him to listen not to an alter ego inside him but to a completely different version of himself. This meet-up can result in one of the two things, one will be that he gets jealous of his alternate self because he didn't got the loving family that alternate Homelander got, and then he will try to kill that other Homelander and dies in that battle or the second possibility can occur where he actually understands how not to be so self-centred and narcissist despite all the tragedy he went through and have a change of heart, before Billy Butcher actually kills him from behind when he was regretting his doings (yeah, I know, it's kinda dark but it's just what the Boys series do). I know the first possibility won't be a good ending for the character and second one has very less chances to happen and this story arc of him meeting such an alternate variant of himself won't be something 'The Boys' series will show, it's just not their style, but it will be a moral relief if the story goes such a way, it's just something I would like to see happen.
@@princeraghavvashishth6281 i agree he should see some kind of redemption, but I don't think it has to be a multiversial version of him. We already have someone in the show that Homelander can actually relate too, his son. I think thematically it makes sense for Homelanders son to be the one to ultimately bring him to redemption, what I think would be even more interesting is if Billy Butcher ends up being the monster of the show by the end of it. Billy has already shown that he's completely willing to sacrifice innocent lives to get what he wants, which is already scarily similar to the mentality a lot of supes have.
The point isn't to make you feel sorry for him. The point is that this is just good writing. You can feel sorry for Homelander and support him. You can feel hatred towards him and despise him. Me personally I just see him as a really well written villain. That's how I watch most shows. Or this one, at least.
Actually... his fear is not Soldier Boy...He fears that if he fails-- people will stop respecting him, aspire him, and love him...well...he went down a path where he thinks he can make people love him with fear..but it is failing....he just needs love but having a traumatic childhood...well..he is a tragic character...many of us can relate with him...

It's more subconscious than conscious. Even after he's loved and accepted he'll still to the same shady Homelander-esque stuff. He'll also do stuff for power and to be feared. Because at the end of the day, he is a lab experiment. And he's broken.
Yeah he is not all evil. he just wanted butcher's wife to love him while being alone in a room. It was not homelander's fault that she got scared and got raped instead. Right? Homelander is not all evil guys.
To a certain extent. He still makes the choice to be a murderer, and his mind is still convincing him to be less and less human. And he’s agreeing. Yes
If we’re going on strictly acting then sure, but I’d have to say Darth Vader is up there too, or is that just me being 20 and liking star wars in my child hood? Heath Ledger did pretty much permanently retire The Joker for me though, because no one is going to be able do it as good(in my opinion) ever again you could kind of say it literally killed him (cause of his commitment to the role and acting like his character) darth vader is just fire asf easily a S tier villian in my eyes.
@@tiddlesworth8798 DID in itself is also more complicated than you’re letting on.
Bro, yes. He is a victim. When he said, "I AM BETTER THAN YOU". I felt that.
@@princeraghavvashishth6281 That bad redemption idea u described sounds alot like Injustice

To a certain extent. He still makes the choice to be a murderer, and his mind is still convincing him to be less and less human. And he’s agreeing. There was another way to tell the difference between a hero and a villain. Interestingly enough, a lot of times the hero and villain will have similar tragic backstories.
