    Why is it that " For Adults" always means immature sexual fantasies with alot of violence, Gore and blood? It's just feels so childish it's like adolescent just went through puberty and this is how they think adults think all the time. Why couldn't "for adults" means deeper narrative a complex story and good characters that you can relate to and learn from, stories that tackle important issues but not in a preaching way, not just childish sexual fantasies.

    Fritz escapes multiple places and moves from town to town, leaving behind destruction due to his actions. As for his girlfriend, She notices he left and tries to find him and coincidentally he came back when things calmed down.
    And finally she didn't show up to the hospital because she was left out in the desert with her car

    I think this movie was one of the movies to push the "Cartoons isnt just for kids.", it help push other animators to do Adult stuff and then slowy refine it to some of the great shows of today, including the more "kiddy" ones. It push the media to be taken more seriously (even thou this movie is not the best).

    • @SirBlackReeds
      @SirBlackReeds 6 місяців тому

      Late, but the way Bakshi saw it is that he was taking animation back to its roots. The West Coast vs East Coast thing used to extend to animation as well. Whereas the West Coast made more story-driven pieces, the East Coast (ex. Fleischer) made cartoons that were little more than excuses to use whatever gags they could think of, and they were pretty dang raunchy.

    It's basically a proof of concept; a giant middle finger to anyone who thought something like this couldn't succeed. The opening scene that makes a commentary on youth activism and the visuals when Duke dies are more than worth giving it a watch. I also highly recommend American Pop.

    • @DrachonaTheWolf
      @DrachonaTheWolf 2 роки тому +3

      @Nonaya Bidness Which is what a lot of the original source is. In this particular instance, the director - who's very weird - wanted it to be crude. It's an adaptation of an already crude and political property into a movie that came out in the early 70's. This was the "free love" and "fuck the man" time. Simply making this movie was a middle finger to the industry.
      Beyond that, there were a few moments of decent commentary, and I can think of at least one sequence that was genuinely good filmmaking, when Duke the crow gets shot and his life and death are visually represented by a game of pool. And all that because the self-absorbed main character wanted to feel good about himself for representing a cause, even though it led to unnecessary destruction.
      In many ways, the movie is just as relevant now as it was back then. I'm not saying you have to like it, but your subjective opinion doesn't make it objectively bad.

    It's not a great movie and it relies heavily on shock value.
    .... that said, there is the often overlooked scene where Fritz describes how he dropped out of college because he felt it was a waste of money and simply an act of conforming to please his parents. The rest of the film really illustrates how this bored, horney, mildly idealistic young "man" finds himself in all sorts of odd scenarios as a result of his impulsive decisions during a time of incredible political and social unrest. It's subtle, but there is a bit of a character arch. Fritz, not being a caricature himself, is surrounded by all sorts of exaggerated stereotypes throughout the film. He is immediately relatable as a normal "person" who's sole motivation is, "well this seems interesting." He gets swept away, tangled up, worked up, woke up, but then realizes that it all comes down to, "hey! Let's have fun and fuck!"
    ..... yea, it's not a great movie now that I think about it.

      I kind of actually feel that might be the message. Fritz doesn't really grow in the end, which kind proves he himself is just another, exaggerated sterotype: the lazy youth. He has all these experiences, yet learns absolutely nothing.

    yeah, Robert Crumb really hates this movie calling it in a written interview ''80 minutes of vomit eh, not from the screen but from me''
    I met crumb on several occasions on markets, cons, and fairs having to do with 78 rpm records we both collect 78 rpm records we both draw he did the underground I did European Disney comics for a while freelance we are both pretty much loners so, we didn't bother each other except record talk and the same dinner at the same table I don't really want his autograph and he doesn't want to give any so we were just fine there! we got on like a house on fire after the firemen already left!! eh, I don't think we ever will be great friends, and the only reason I remember him is that he's freaking Robert Crumb!!!!! probably the same on the other side so he likely does not remember me at all! but that's ok not that he's unkind or nasty no he's hard to befriend and so am I.
    if you worked for Disney, people want and expect stuff from you so you get distrustful at times ''here's another dumbo who wants a Donald Duck drawing for his wall'' so I get it I get where he's coming from completely!
    I also get his irritation with this movie as soon as I had drawn and delivered it to Egmond in Finland my art was owned by Disney and still is I have seen some terrible versions of my art over the decades some to the nightmarish point so, I get his disgust with this movie one 100%.

    It's funny how animation became just for children (in the West, at least) for a while. Originally, this wasn't the case. Most Hanna-Barbera shows were originally geared towards adults as the target audience but deliberately made to be suitable for children too so the whole family could watch. Later these same shows, including the series (AKA seasons) originally aimed at adults, were repackaged for children because it was seen as more profitable. It very easily could have gone the other way and cartoons could have been predominantly adult oriented as originally intended.

      @@TheMightyPika that's basically what happened, the main 2 voice actors were Flo and Eddy, basically two guys that were part of the Turtles and then Frank Zappa's band who started their own comedy rock thing. Dirty Duck was esentially them doing improv with a few other people and then the studio Murakami-Wolf animated it. It really suffered from trying to portray itself as an out and out Fritz rip off instead of the improv-based project that it was. But then again, Bakshi also liked using freely recorded dialog from his surroundings (the scene in the synagogue in Fritz is partly a recording of his father and uncles having a conversation IIRC), so comparisons are unavoidable
