Exactly. While I've never been behind bars, I can imagine that people can and do make mistakes that can land them there, and that doesn't necessarily make them evil people.
@abandoned circus Rapists are often beaten and killed by other prisoners, and sometimes the guards allow it, you're generalizing all prisoners as rapists, no one likes rapists.

Spent a little time inside myself and can confirm that guards like him are what changed my life, prison itself was pointless as a deterrent but getting to work with people who really cared and took an interest was life changing.
I was a correctional officer in a maximum security prison. What I know is if you treat the inmates with respect they will return that respect. Treat all people as human beings that is the lesson.
Imagine if they showed the plenty instances like this while addressing the socially damaging injustices of police brutality without trying to cause chaos. The world is the way it is because of evil. Unfortunately, there's evil that trickles down from high places. We all need Jesus.
being a prison officer and being loved by the inmates is probably the most bad ass thing. I wouldnt mess with that officer cuz he has a lot of body guards
I was a prison officer and I can attest that most of the time they aren't bad people, they made bad decisions. Their background can be wildly varied, but the main thing to remember is to treat them as people and respect them. I stood up in front of the governor a few times to testify on an inmates behalf if I felt they were being unfairly accused of rule breaking, or they were peripheral to an incident. I've been caught in a couple of riots and had inmates let me out of the area so I didn't get hurt because "He's one of the good ones guys". It wasn't my place to judge them on their crimes, that was done by the courts. Treat people with respect and fairness and you never know when it will be returned to you when you need it most.
Same, Worked for more than a few years in OKDOC, even advocated for an inmates appeal because that kid was unfairly punished. I can say that I was not only respected on every unit we had but I respected each and every one of the guys on my units
The officer showed kindness to the inmates and therefore they showed kindness in return. It’s truly amazing how far a little bit of kindness can go in this world.
@@Clonetrooperz48 There's also a difference between jail and prison. Some people are in jail for driving without a license, hunting without a license, shoplifting. The "oh shit, I messed up guy's" vs the "it's good to be home".

My husband worked in corrections as an officer for five years. He always treated the inmates with respect whereas some didn’t. One night he was in the gym and told an inmate to stop throwing the ball so that it would go up and hit the lights. All my husband had for protection was a radio and a flashlight. That inmate came over and got all up on him threatening him. The other inmates came and formed a circle around him until help came. They told him they always had his back. The other thing was, we’d be in Walmart or somewhere and person that had been in there, more than a few times, would see us and start talking to him and telling him how they were doing and thanked him for what a good guy he was to them. I’m proud of him. He’s a really good guy with a good heart.
I appreciate your husband too. It really takes guts to be an officer especially today, and it takes a really great person to find friendship in the people who are made to seem like your enemy. Your husband looks deeper.
My wife works as a correctional officer. She tries to treat every inmate like a human being with kindness. It’s good to know that there are humans with morals still attached behind those bars even though they might have messed up in life to get there

A guy i was locked with actually helped a cop (we have sheriffs guard our jails) when he was jumped on out of nowhere by some jcat inmate. Cause of that he got out months early, they actually tell us that if we help a guard in a way like that well get a time cut. The unfortunate thing though is that most the other inmates will not allow you to do that, in california we have some serious politics and you cant even go ask a guard for toilet paper without another person going with you. More so, a woman can claim anyone has raped her, and he (or she, if applicable) must go to court, and even if he wasn't guilty, his reputation is forever scarred. I think that this world isn't fair, and it's fine that way. A single person's opinions do not shape the others, it's the other way around. Quite fascinating how a powerful person could also be a rapist, and simply eliminate the evidence, and leave freely, meanwhile a poor man cannot do anything, and must lose his reputation, his self-worth even, and must prove himself innocent.
That's the problem. Many prison and jail guards just see those locked up as no longer human beings yet as animals. They crack jokes like someone gets released one asks "what you doing?" Then the one being asked replies "letting someone go who shouldn't be" like every person locked up isn't allowed to be let out. And aren't all locked up. Many criminals roam streets, offices, and hold professional white collar jobs. Old saying : Biggest crook ain't never been caught.
@Ploof Poof Yes, some are. The screwed up thing is that there are far more people in jail on multiple counts of driving with no insurance or fraud or selling drugs or a host of other non violent crimes than actual murderers and rapists. They aren't all horrible violent monsters. Some of them just made poor choices or did the best they could in the shitty situations they were in.
@@lewis9046 And that's the point. Sure, they all (most likely; unguilty & imprisoned is a bad existing combination though, too) did commit crimes, but that rarely roots in bad attitude and malicious intents. In prison, most people end up there due to crimes like: > Theft/Burglary/Robbery out of desperation, maybe even due to having ended up in a real dead end scenario where that crime was their only option available. > Mayhem/Violence, mostly happening in the affect of an emotional escalation (which is often the result of misbehavior on both sides of the field). > Any crime under the circumstance of loss of control due to intoxication(s). > [...] I'm not trying to pardon and annulate these people's crimes, not trying to explain why they should be seen as innocent or any such. They still are responsible. They did misbehave. Most of the time we are not in control of the circumstances that guide us through our day, though. Some unexpected coincidence/misfortune here; some light-hearted/inattentive decision there. Suddenly, cracking noises as we watch the whole ground crumbling off. Could have been me, could have been you. Could have been anyone and of course anyone could claim beforehand he would never misbehave like this and would never do anything like that while still ending up between this and that. The guys in the video know that, too. They didn't try to appease themselves in any kind of way or anything like that, but neither were they monsters before, nor did they become monsters afterwards. Don't judge everyone at the base of some; just be aware that some of them might be, while other monsters are walking free, too.
My dad used to work as a jail guard...I remember one time him telling me that 90%+ of inmates weren't really bad people, they'd just made stupid decisions, gotten addicted to various substances, etc. His simple advice to me was something that anyone in any position of authority, or really anyone in any position in life can live by in dealing with our fellow humans: Treat them with respect and compassion, and they'll treat you with the same. Love to be reminded of those little lessons by stuff like this 💕
they do get out!!! i was a co in rikers island, toughest jail in hte system, treat all with respect. take it from me , one day after i left there was hanging out in my neiborhood whehn i got circled by 5 black men, one seen me and said hey co !!!!! i remember you!!! you were always cool and no bifg shot in jail , have a good day and the guys left. if i was a dick in jail my life wolud have been over then!!!
That can be an insidious belief to have. You might think "Screw it, it nobody is kind I'm not going to be kind either." Then when someone sees YOU being unkind due to your belief, they adopt the same belief. And on and on, in a downward spiral of negativity. The only way to beat this is to be the change you want to see in the world, and start an upward spiral of kindness.
My dad was once a police officer, and he told me that even if it is a inmate, it always matters how to treat them because they will remember how you treat them in times like this.

Treat people with respect and fairness and you never know when it will be returned to you when you need it most.

youd be amazed how much the respect means to people who are locked up. First of all its a place where respect is the #1 currency so to speak , the more respect you give the more you get. You dont disrespect another man in there. When i was locked the inmates who treated us like humans really stood out, ive always supported law enforcement and even wanted to be a LEO until i was arrested for making the wrong choices. Unfortunately i learned majority are what i call robo cops, they treat you like you just killed a baby or something. But then there was the ones who didnt act like we were anything less then them, those are the ones who wed stick our neck out to help if the situation arose. Luckily the guy who helped was bigger then me andim 6'4 220+ so no one was really gonna buck up and try to do anything to the guy cause they know theyd get rocked.

Just cause people make life mistakes, doesn't mean they are bad people. Kudos to the inmates for still being great people.
I agree
Well it depends on what the “mistake” is, because if someone is a child rapist how can you call that a mistake?
Yes I can call that a mistake, not everyone is a psychopath, some people are victims of their own twisted childhood trauma, which thus in turn makes their brain dyfunction. Either way being a survivor of some stupid shit myself, I always believe the universe, or God as most call it forgives all who seek it, which at the time I'd like to hope they realize that asking forgiveness means that they know it was wrong and get help for such a mental disorder and not keep doing terrible things. I'd be a terrible hypocrite if I only believed the universe forgives sins that are only kinda a mistake. It's not an easy way of thinking, but I am also glad I do not have the heavy task of judging others, I just wanna always help those on the wrong path, correct where they went wrong. And maybe since I am a survivor of some heavy sex shit myself, I find I have a very unique way of looking at things. I would actually like to meet those people who have sexually did me wrong, so that I could let them know that I forgive them, and maybe help each other with our broken souls, or shoot them if they are not sorry and still do bad things. . . . I like to have faith that not all people who do bad things are just evil, some deeds are done because other people hurt them and it's a terrible cycle.

YEARS ago in the 90s or around, there were a few states that did a type of open population jails called close pop or something. @@lewis9046 And that's the point.
Sure, they all (most likely; unguilty & imprisoned is a bad existing combination though, too) did commit crimes, but that rarely roots in bad attitude and malicious intents. In prison, most people end up there due to crimes like:
> Theft/Burglary/Robbery out of desperation, maybe even due to having ended up in a real dead end scenario where that crime was their only option available.
> Mayhem/Violence, mostly happening in the affect of an emotional escalation (which is often the result of misbehavior on both sides of the field).
> Any crime under the circumstance of loss of control due to intoxication(s).
> [...]
I'm not trying to pardon and annulate these people's crimes, not trying to explain why they should be seen as innocent or any such.
Some people walking free in the streets wearing suits wouldn't even help.
And then you forget that one of them happened to rape their 6 year old child and beat up someone on the street

✝️Jesus loves you. God sent him on the cross to die for YOU so you can be freed from sin and spend all eternity in heaven. He is surely coming soon!!
Humans are the ones who cause most pain in this world so this is bullshit
There isn't enough kindness in this world, that's for sure.
@@Chickaqee you're being unkind right now
Kind of reminds me of the Swedish jail where the cells were left unlocked over night... so the inmates broke out and baked a cake in the kitchen.
I remember this story. They made kladdkaka if I'm not mistaken.
Yum
Gotta check it out. It seems interesting-! XD
Swede here, and I have never heard about it! :o Did it happen within the last ten years?
@@ankaplanka I don't know exactly, but I was able to find a clipping imgur.com/LFPgnuK
My dad was once a police officer, and he told me that even if it is a inmate, it always matters how to treat them because they will remember how you treat them in times like this.
As the saying goes, what goes around comes around.
What a wise word 👍
Well hopefully officer Chauvin behind bars would do the same and earn some redemption throughout his life
Totally! You ALWAYS treat others with respect so that when the tables turned, they treat you the same. thanks!
You treat them like animals and they’ll act like animals
Treat them like human beings and they’ll act like human beings
