Thanks for the review. There are many watch reviewers on YT and you are one of the best reviewers. You had posted a video a few months ago commenting that the Dollar-Yen ratio is very favorable. This means that many of the high-end Japanese watches, such as Casio Oceanus, Citizen Attesa, and Seiko Astron, are available new for around $550 and up. Please consider doing a few reviews of these. For example, OCEANUS OCW-T4000CL-2AJF ($550 on e*ay), CITIZEN ATTESA AT8181-63L ($550), SEIKO ASTRON SBXY009 ($550).
If it wasn't for Seagull I would never been able to add a couple of tourbillon watches to my collection and after quite a few years they still get plenty of wrist time Thanks for another killer video my friend 👍
I bought an Ingersoll in Hong Kong about 5 years ago with very similar subdials and pushers ... would not be surprised if the movement is SeaGull. Still functions perfectly albeit a little fast.
I've had a Rider Power Reserve automatic watch for many years now. This is a Seagull brand which has a power reserve indicator and date subdial on a silver dial. It's a great looking watch, with sapphire crystal and an exhibition back. A nice size at 40mm and a good timekeeper. I paid about £100 and it still is an integral part of my watch collection.
I have a little flock of Sea-gull watches from the 1980s onwards and they all work perfectly. The ST5 hand wound movementss are excellent. My latest one is ithe Sea-gull Ocean star 200m diver.
Sea Gull make excellent watches , one thing I have noticed about certain chinese brands that many of there products are getting better in quality and innovation. Cheers 👍
It bears a resemblance to the Citizen Avion 0930-21e which is the same watch with the inner railroad chapter track, full Arabic numbers and the day and date subdials. The only thing missing on the Citizen are the pushers and its powered by an eco drive movement.
I had the Seagull 1963 for a while but I passed it on. Since then, I've been looking for a fully-Chinese watch to replace the "proudly Chinese" spot in my collection. Unfortunately, I've been browsing through Seagull every now and then and I haven't seen anything that I liked design-wise.
Interesting design. Don’t like the idea of the toothpick to change the day though. Not so practical. Also I couldn’t see how that rotating bezel works! There are no hour markers on it! EDIT: I see what you mean by difficult to view. I saw the hour markers when I zoomed in . Need new glasses 🤣 Ps the silver version looks much nicer imo. Look forward to the review of that one.
Can anybody find a link to the brown checkered dial version shown in the beginning? I think it looks more tasteful than the black or blue colorways and is surprisingly precise for this price point. And I've been on the lookout for a watch with dual color lume... I think it's something that both looks slick and checks a box that's not yet in my (modest) collection.
What are your favorite 12-hour bezels? I just returned from traveling and very much wished I had one while away. But my searches on the internet are not as fruitful as I'd hoped. What would you recommend? As a traveling watch, I'd like one with 100m water resistance too.
I have a Phoibos Voyager which I totally love. I got the v2 which was a bit cheaper than the current v3, but the build quality is great, it (the v3) has 200m WR and its a watch with its own character, not an homage.
@@CyberSammael Yeah, I totally have my eye on the malachite dial of the V3. My geologist brain loves that. I've heard some QC issues with indices so I haven't made the plunge yet. It is on my short list still.
In general I like the original watches coming out of China, however, I am very wary of the majority of Chinese watches because of a couple of issues. Build quality aside, I worry about exploitive labor practices, intellectual property issues, a general comfort with producing fakes and barely homage watches, as well as a blurred line between the government and the company. I am interested to see more authentically original designs from all price points but hesitate on much of the other offerings. I know Sea-Gull and Atelier Wen are doing cool designs. Does anyone know of any other Chinese companies doing something new?
The only thing that stops me buying a seagull is what happens when it comes time to servicing? It’ll cost more than the watch. It’s a cheap chrono. It’s going to happen. Does anyone have experience with this?
I know Seagull since seagull 1963 chronograph and this new seagull pilot is not bad however the dial is too busy IMO. It would be nicer if the inner second hour bezel had no lines. That could give more space to numbers to be much bolder and clearer. The minute numbers as well. They suppress the main dial numbers respectively. I don't like that 10 is being cut by date subdial if there weren't any minute markers the hour numbers would have been complete and more aligned.
I’m still yet to see high quality. Owning a Spinnaker and opening it due to gasket compromise found the caseback, movement and parts covered with finger prints and such. I’ve had some customers send me some sea-gull chronos that didn’t work well, and once I opened the watch, I found a combination of dirty movements despite only a year old. Poor quality metallurgy. Excessive wear. Excessive oiling. And so on. I’m sad to say these watches are all still junk. I find that the beauty is only skin deep with these watches. Looks nice, sapphire crystal. Great. But that’s like putting a beautiful new Porsche body on my old, clapped out VW beetle and selling the Porsche at scrapyard prices.
I've been a bit disappointed lately that a lot of really promising looking watches have been coming out in sizes like 36mm or 38mm. This is good for people with small wrists of course but if I try wearing them they look like a child's watch. Nice to see this one coming in at a sensible dimension. Nice review, thanks.
This is what I'd call a fake chronograph. Big nono for my preference. Although the seethrough caseback looks great, would rather prefer a vk64 solid caseback, a true chronograph at least.
I don't get cheap automatic watches. they're so compromised and difficult to live with. Like I've got a few and i get that the seconds hand ticks smoother etc.. but if the case is finished in a cheap way like a solar quartz just buy the solar.
It's a faux-chronograph, and your title is a bit click-baitey. A true automatic chronograph in this price range would be a game changer, this watch is not.

Does the retrograde function still work? I am thinking about something like yours or the one with 2 circular sub dials

The time zone design is really smart
I've had a watch with a skeletonized automatic seagull movement that has been ticking for 6 years without an issue. Still keeps accurate time too
It bears a resemblance to the Citizen Avion 0930-21e which is the same watch with the inner railroad chapter track, full Arabic numbers and the day and date subdials. The only thing missing on the Citizen are the pushers and its powered by an eco drive movement.
This looks really neat! I like the inner rotating bezel, clever use of the bezel.
Perfect watch watch for night use such aa on long flights and camping.
Attractive looking watch.
Design is nice black watch. Never had sea-gul before. 👍
I just bought a Tisot automatic chronograph for $300. But it was on sale.
Really like this watch and color. Stealth look. Might scoop this up. Would like to see a bracelet for this too.
I wonder the longevity are for those movements. But for 200 dollars I cant say its not worth it.

I love seagulls!!!
Wow, definitely a beautiful and neat watch, is there a quartz version?

Your content has really taken a dive since you've had your daughter...you seem to be a great sport about it....but I can see the frustration ...
That is a good looking watch. I enjoy sea gull as much as I do my Omega, Tudor & Rolex.
😂 Awesome irony Passive agressive comment😂 ~>> 📸 To collection!
It's kinda silly that they'd make this when they have an automatic version of the ST19 chrono movement
They don't wanna go under 200 dollars with their chronographs

Wish Seagull would make smaller watches. Not really sure why most of their offerings are so large
Really good looking watch

Pretty watch, but the fake chrono pushers are ridiculous.
Great review, brought the brand onto my 'maybe try one' list. Still leary of the Chinese movements though
Wiil get one , looks nice and for that price seems like a good deal ,
Is this not a homage to a Breitling? Not 100% sure though
I think I should but the brown one. What is its product code ?
I like it, looks great!

That's a good looking watch. Nice to see originality. 👍
Nope, not for me. I just do not like that bezel and for me, it is trying to be something it ain’t.

Seigel? is that a new watch company established by Steven Seegoal?
Nice
big fan of this channel but a little misleading on the title... definitely not a chronograph.
Just changed it.

Kind of misleading to call it a chrono being honest
From China?! No thanks!
Is it a problem with the brand from China or is it the manufacturing in China the problem for you?

You mean the title in which he states that it is NOT a chronograph
Please lar - dont waste $$$ on this watch
wanna be chrono
