Why Don't Other Life Pods Flotation Systems Work? | Subnautica Theory

- Hello everyone,
In this video, we will be exploring why in all but one of the life pods you can explore in Subnautica the flotation systems do not work at all. In fact, the life pods are sunk to the bottom of the sea floor. This is very peculiar and we will be exploring why this could have happened.
We'll be going through 7 possibilities.
Let me know in the comments section below what you guys think: Why Don't Other Life Pods Flotation Systems Work?

This is a super old video! So, I apologize for the bad editing. Trust me, my editing is a lot better now. But if you enjoyed this video, you might like my explanation to what happened to all the other life pods in Subnautica: ua-cam.com/video/A9ZtRtI-nsM/v-deo.html
Hey, I like these style of videos and think you should make more similar ones. I think they lifepods failed because of the alien gun thing and there are no survivors because of the leviathans
I think you're right! And I do make lots of these types of videos just better editing :)
I thought it was a joke intro.
@@zorpglorp No it was a cringe, trash intro lol
Its exactly the last bacons videos starting
You didn't survive because you are the main character, you are the main character because you survived
ahh yes, the nogotiaor
Woah hang on
Deep thought’s bro
It’s like how R2-D2 survived in that one ship scene in the prequels. He didn’t survive because he was one of the main characters, he survived because otherwise the non-prequel movies wouldn’t exist otherwise
Yes
From what I can tell, i think that warpers were the cause of all (most) of the dead survivors, as most of the damage inflicted on the life pods seems to be a prying force from the outside, with an exception for the life pod that was detonated due to an issue with a flare. I also think the idea that they all died from creature attacks is disproven by life pod 7, which crashed in the creepvine area. And this is a little farfetched, but i think that the warpers were able to track down the life pods so fast was due to the fact that they all sent emergency broadcasts, as we know warpers have some sort of connection to the radio, and they never teleported directly to life pod 5 as Riley never sent a distress signal
Best explanation i ever heard
Wow
Life pod seven could’ve been attacked by a stalker
I recall a radio message that I think was alien that said something about targets and that there was only 1 left. I think it was about the humans and the 1 being you
Edit : I just reread and realized that's what you said lol
the distress signal part is a really interesting theory, I think it's very plausible!
Luckily even if Riley’s life pod flotation devises never worked he would still be alive because he crashed in the safe shallows
But what about the extreme damage from the impact that would have probably caused flooding
He is in the safe shallows so harder inpact do to less water to slow it down
*le epically uses floaters to lift ship out of the water*
Lifepod three landed safe shallows
Oh well they went farther down
The reason the main characters life pod wasn’t attacked was because he crashed in shallow water so there weren’t any creatures weren’t big enough or aggressive enough to attack it.
There’s a lifepod near the aurora that was attacked by a reaper and was still floating, although very damaged
Crashfish: bonjour
@@spacegame4462 he wasn’t in a cave
@@paccie9689 yes because it was the only other lifepod from lifepod 5 that had its flotation devices activated but the reaper attacked the lifepod itself not the floatation devices
theres also stalkers
The failure from a crash is very likely, they could have hit the sea floor before the floats could activate
But our one is close to the sea floor
@@taxevasiongaming cuz we are main characters
@@k1yoke1 never
Yes, I guess normaly they would activate a parachute (no evidence, but makes sence). As seen in the intro, they ejected VERY close to the sea floor, leaving them no time to a) activate the parachutes (reason some lifepots got damaged, including ours) b) the flotation couldnt activate in time so they sunk, or because of the parachute failing, the impact destroyed the already inflated flotation devices. So thats what I can tell yall
@@Sembel-xh9vq they most likely use a chemical reaction to activate the floaties though
reasn why all of them failed: lifepods are running windows xp
Lol :)
Windows 8*
fun fact an youtuber was able to run Minecraft on Windows 98
Ah yes windows xp in the future
they also had the first intel ever and a half and a quarter bit
or... it could just be the activation mechanism that caused it
y'know the beacon? when you put it in the water some small latches on the side detach to form those balloon things
i imagine that those latches simply wouldn't fall off due to them pointing downward and the velocity of the fall. i'd guess they would've been designed to eject downwards, which simply wouldn't have been made ejection possible unless it had detached sideways aswell. the latches would just stick onto the bottoms of the lifepods due to wind pressure and in that case they would never be able to inflate the flotation devices in time.
That's definitely a likely possibility :)
I think it runs on windows but now i'm felling stupid.
I completely agree. That is, aside from the ones that deployed but got damaged.
So how did lifepod 5 float?
@@LucyWest370 could say the same for alot of other lifepods, really. could just be that they landed at an angle so that the mechanism could activate in the water. that might also explain how the secondary systems panel fell off which made him pass out.

But why'd you say "Noticed younger people bla bla bla" it sounded like you're a 74 year old granpa that liked "the old days"
Yes
Imagination thats why
Theyre more skeptical
My theory is that when the Quarantine Enforcement Platform shot the Aurora, some of the Lifepods were hit before ejection, not destroying them but compromising their flotation devices so that they don't work
that actually sounds kinda smart
That basically is what happens on one side. It has 25 pods on each side. It was broadsided by the QEP which destroyed 25 outta 50. I think you can find 12 others so including yours there’s 13 that landed in the crater and 12 that are assumed to either fell into the void or never got launched
Can we just get an F for the people whose lifepods went into the dead zone
Oh woe
Well shit, RIP
True there was a lot more life pods and we never find them so F in chat for the people in the void…yes

All lifepods excepts 1 to 25 are exploded in entering into atmosphere itself as recorded in aurora blackboxex

Also, haven’t you noticed ALL life pods are near hostile fauna, so this means they could have destroyed the floatation device and could have killed OR eaten them, even your first life pod you have to go to is near hostile fauna which are the stalkers. Even if there are some in safe places we have to think that maybe creatures wernt always in the same biome, considering reapers are in multiple biomes on the not so deeper side of subnautica( wow I wrote a lot)
Yes, that's a likely explanation.
No the hole are blown out mean something or someone made those holes
See on 2:30
I think all of the deaths were caused by these creatures: Stalker, Crabsnake, Warper, and Reaper Leviathan.
@@JOBMAN. Well I think that one, the stupid idiot girl shot the flare and killed them both and blew a hole through the top
I reailised something odd about the holes and I suspect it’s the hostile mobs but mostly the warper as the holes are damaged in the same way and the warpers have sharp claws so they might have scratched the flotation systems therefore they sunk as there is proof from the transmission “8 new biological subjects found , sharing locations. With other agent ,hunting ,killing “ plus the main character is still alive as he was presumed dead as the blackbox logs stated so the warpers also presumed him dead
0:08 if you pay _very_ close attention to the audio, you can here someone say "Perfect"
Theory, we where the last life pod to go off so we had less impact and the ones farther back left earlier so they where farther back cause they where traveling through space longer.
Theory 2, we where not the only lifepods on the ship, maybe there where some others that floated through space or where on a new planet! (Unlikely)
I think we were the second last one and that's why the last one is next to the aurora
If they were launched in descending order that would make sense, we are pod 5 and the other one that's floating was 4
Something to take into account is that in the lifepod pda entry it says that each one is for a different situation, choose the right one for the right situation.
There is one, near the ship Arora idk how to spell
It's 4
Yeah, lifepod 4 is near the Aurora. It's upside down and was likely attacked by a Reaper.
@@SpeedyMouse I agree, it probably landed so close to the Aurora due to late deployment, like life pod 5. it could have also been the area of life pods 4 and 5 was undamaged by the QEP.

I remember that the players lifepod is dmged when it was falling, maybe when they fell, the pressure speed and crash, damaged the electronics of the lifepod like ours was, with many of its secondary systems offline until the player repaired it, its likely that electrónic failure due to the ejection from the aurora, the dmg from the QEP, Alterras lack of regard for its workers safety, the crash and hostile fauna all contribuited to the failure if the flotation systems.
The only life pods that still float till this day is lifepod 5 and the upside down lifepod 4 it's next to the aroua
Yep, it's very weird...
Maybe other lifepods had working floating system but the predators in the water could have demaged the floaters. Our character landed in the Safe Shallows where's nothing really that could have demage our lifepod. For example life pod 12 landed in the dangerous koosh zone with ampeels. Now you may ask: "What about lifepod 3? It landed in the creepvine forest." Well it landed on the border crossing the creepvine forest and the moutiatns. The bone sharks that live in the moutiants could have swim to the lifepod and demage it hardly
Maybe since the main protagonist was unconscious to begin with none of the hostile fauna were able to find him in the life pod, and thus didn't attack it, while the other crew members were conscious and drew attention to their life pods resulting in the flotation system to be damaged by the native lifeforms.
This kid is amazing by giving dialogue behind each and every way it could have possibly happened and some of them I didn't even think of

this is unlikely, all of the holes in the lifepods are bent outwards so they could have somehow exploded, or something busted out, this could be a mistake by the developers though.
In life pod 6 that did happen but it may be different but that is a good theory
WOW!!!! this is by FAR the best video ive ever seen, citing credible evidence, naming attributes, and etc, take my subscribe
The other life pods could have landed first before the aroura and got hit by the shockwave from impact but lifepod 5 could have landed later after because during the first cut scene it shows that as soon as you eject from the captain ship, it explodes almost instantly
One of the life pod recordings straight up tells you that something is attacking
The imagination of this kid is way over mine
I asked my friend this question last week this video was great
Awesome! Thanks a ton!
My only problem is that, from what I can recall, most of the life pods look like they were bursted out from the inside.
Maybe Alterra just skipped out on testing how well the life pods work. It kinda reminds me of a scene from The Martian. People on Earth are trying to send supplies to Mars, and skip testing the pod to make the deadline, and the pod explodes.

I think the impact made it not work on most of them because the guy probably left a little late because at the very start I think it's the ship crashing that causes him to get knocked out. also I made a subnautica theory aswell, u should check it out and tell me what u think. :)
Yeah that's probably true! I will definitely go check out your video right now!
it's possible but unlikely because so much height is required to get so far away from the aurora and you can see almost all of the explosion
He gets knocked out by loose sheet metal bc the velocity of the pod falling and hitting the water is so strong it causes the metal to knock out Riley but after they wake up the pda says he suffered serious head trauma which would knock you out however he was out for months so maybe he was in a coma or not idk it’s a theory
I think that why there is holes in the lifepod is because the laser from the quarintine enforcement platform directly hit it there.
That's possible, or maybe some debris from the laser or something similar.
@DarkerTale Guy it did to the right side of the ship
I think the life pods were brutally damaged by hostail mobs the holes in the life pods are pointing directly at the chief of the life pod but damn not sure
The hostile fauna theory might only work in some cases because the holes seem to be blown outwards and not inwards making it likely that the life pods were broken from the inside
in the firs transmision of the sunbem the sunbem says the aurora have low engines perhaps the Aurora was not prepared for these emergencies or trips
Nice video
Yes, that could be a possibility as well!
This is actually really good and useful
Great, I'm glad you think so!
A reason could be some of the life pods look older then the players
Probably the warpers, the atmospheric reentry stuff(possibly evaporating part of the floatation buoy causing it to puncture)
I think the other pods fell in the void because one pod said they sank 500 meters deep.
I watch you all day lol im addicted

something i noticed. for this guy having only 16K subs he has some decent editing, plus he sounds young, good work keep it up! you just earned another sub
Riley was just lucky in where he landed, because other landing spots had hostile aliens of different species while Riley landed near a good food source with most of his pod intact.
I got an idea! You know the second you land the life pod is on fire? Maybe the other crew fainted or something similar as the player but they didn’t wake up in time. It’s probably not correct since some of them left voice messages but still..... ok nevermind
Many lifepods have preordered messages and some of them have only an automatic signal call so you might be right
My guy you have a very high potential for these theories keep going.

I like dis person. He gets straight to the point unlike some other ones that talks about subscribing for 5 minutes straight
Dang I didn’t even think about them being damaged before deploying because of the QEP Good stuff
Well I expect the life pods to be prepared for falling from high distances, after all the Aurora was made to go to space, so the life pods would be designed to be able to survive a fall from space to a planet floor or ocean and keep the person inside the life pod, or it would be pointless to even try to escape using a life pod. And yes, people can use a sea moth from the Aurora to get to space and maybe survive because it was capable to explore space and a ocean. Though the power won’t last long unless it has the sonar panel module hitch might be able to get power from the star or “sun,” but there might be some things like asteroids or debris from the Aurora that will hit the sea moth and destroy it. But that’s just a theory of course, well if it made sense.

Is it just me or is it odd that all life pods have the same/similar holes in them (nice video I like I'll sub to)
Yeah, it is kind of odd. But it's at these points that we must remember it is simply a game and the developers probably didn't add variation between life pods :)
@@SpeedyMouse yeah very very true

@@Mellifluoubusg true but that would happen to maybe 1 or 3 cuz its all the life pods that have holes but yours but it might have happend to some of the other pods
@@catscentral true but some couldve even got damaged by Auroras explosion and the people inside them were probably eaten and one lifepod had a broken fabricator and I personally think that a piece of Aurora hit the electrical systems of the pod so the fabricator won't get energy and then it won't work
I think shrapnel from the aurora could have hit the lifepods as they were falling down, at the beginning of the game when you eject from the aurora, the panel that protects the wires falls off from what sounds like an impact from the outside, most likely from the shrapnel from the aurora, and the shrapnel didn’t hit the floatation device on ur life pod, but on others it did. This is also proven more by the Sunbeam when they arrive on the planet and try to find a way to reach u, they say, “We just picked up a MASSIVE DEBRIS field at your location,” and the fact that the debris field was massive, means that most likely as the lifepods were falling, they got hit by the shrapnel, but not Ryley because he got ejected closer to the planet’s surface compared to the other lifepods.
I just discovered this video and i'm subscribing and also it is almost confirmed that warpers ripped open their lifepods and killed them. And their flotation devices were built by a tennis ball.

@@toiletsquid101 lol
@@toiletsquid101 I meant the recording
I think being attacked is the most likely, along with possibly impact. You landed in the safe shallows, whereas everyone else landed in areas with hostile creatures
I have a really good reason and Is backed up by science, the reason our life pod is safe is because it actually deployed late and didn’t deploy in space like the others(because in the begging of the game we see our life pod be deployed within the atmosphere) and re-entry could have busted the flotation devices on the other life pods
Its weird the aurora has an exit wound, but by both it and the sunbeam it was capable of stopping after hitting something
Wanna know something scary? Aurora's black box says that there were 25 lifepods lunched. We know that there aren't 25 accesable lifepods in the playable area. Which means some survivors from the aurora landed in the void or maybe they exploded during planetfall
Who knows maybe one want outside the crater
You can see that Alterras tech isnt the most structurally stable, the panel flying off the life pod on the way down, and the Neptunes panel also getting damaged upon leaving the planet, thus meaning that the other lifepods werent unlucky, you just got lucky enough for the lifepod to not get irreversibly damaged
At 4:15 it shows that only so many life pods survived that shot so maybe it could be that only so many people got to the lifepods and riyle was the only one to be on the right side and every other person went to the startboard side!
I have a theory on this.
I think the floatation systems on lifepods on such a massive ship isn't really a big deal so I think it is considered a non- essential system.
Since Riley robinson is non essential system chief I think he was told to fix the floatation systems on the lifepods. He fixed a couple (lifepod 4 and 5) but then thought it was a waste of time. Then, when the ship was hit by the laser, he knew that lifepod 5 had working floatation systems so he went in it.
this is an kid running an channel and its not cringy congrats this is so rare
This channel gives me so much more confidence to better my content, great content my man!
I like the explanation that the main character is just very lucky. If being the sole survivor on a dangerous planet surrounded by thousands of absolutely horrifying ways to die can be considered “lucky” anyway.
a small observation, the life pod damage seems to be from the inside, if you see the way the debris is pointing towards the ocean and not into the pod, meaning that whatever happened, it was from the inside
Part of that doesn't make sense. Certain fauna on the planet have claws or something else meant to rip things apart. If the creature has claws, it would have to pull outward toward itself. Same thing with a reaper leviathan, which would hook around the pod and rip the opposite side open outward. None of the pods or survivors have equipment able to rip a hole in the side of the pod.
I think that they did work, but many of there are near aggressive creatures, which can easily pop the flotation devices looking for food.
Bro , you're channel is actual gold!
