  • Mobile Tool Cart for Jobsite or workshop
Designed to store and organize your most used tools and be mobile. I made this cart with scrap wood, some casters and T-track components from Rockler, StealthMount storage clips, a powerstrip and some left over Systainer boxes and bott Smartvan shelving components.

    Nice concept!
    Ideas -
    1) magnetic whiteboard above the table.
    2) pullout shelf for the toolboxes so you can rest one to open it.
    3) lockable doors that fold all the way open flat against the sides, that have threaded metal inserts to mount the accessories holders to. Perhaps even design it such the accessories can remain mounted when closed, yet still roll through standard doorway.
    4) Cooler for bottles of water or insulated warmer for glues/batteries etc.
    5) split the unit in half so the top half can be lifted and carried separately with integral handles.

I love self made work stuff, your tool tower here, smart saw horses, trailer fit outs, van fit outs, jigs, work tables. You being where you are, I hope to see other trades willing to share their set ups. I’m in New England as well, not many of us are the open friendly types for various reasons. But you have a great platform and reach to share ideas for inspiration that’s for sure. I’ve had a similar idea for my own setup that I’ve been putting on paper for a couple years, time to have some fun exploring some ideas of my own. Thanks for putting this video together and sharing your ideas.

I have a similar set up in my workshop at home. It rolls between my workbenches, assembly table and cutting deck. On one side I have a 'holster' that holds two festool tracks, and on the other is a shop built boom arm to hold my extractor hose overhead. I'm definitely going to add a flexible task light to the end of the arm and another flood light to the top.

    Great job, super video!

I could see that being useful in my shop/garage. I rarely leave smaller tools on a job, just table saw, miter saw, shop vac, etc

Absolutely - anything mobile with the tools needed - at hand - is a win

Awesome job Rob. Love to hear how you and other TBB crew guys manage inventory/ store most used items on consumables. To lessen trips to the store and supplier delivery. That’s our current struggle .

Pretty slick idea, looks like it suits your workflow well. I'm a Trim Carpenter, I use systainers to store most of my tools. I have the dolly's to roll around the house during the day and into a locked closet at the end of the day.

I have a sustainer dolly too but it’s not as accessible in a tower

    Fantastic job!
I feel like most on-site tradesmen use a hybrid system ,if you are there multiple days.
As a cabinet installer (usually only 1 day at a time),I use a packout dolly and centipede table only.
My garage has 8'X8'X 3' deep rolling box, with packout plates on the back.
The tool or consumable you cannot find ,always adds on to the job!

i like that a lot - much much better than anything you can buy. especially made of scrapwood and in one rainy day- well donde!
i made myself one, but not that high. what i really like on mine is, i didnt put anything on the side - so i can flip it over and have an excellent workbench. shure the acessories inside are fixed in some way and even there is an extension board fixed on one side when you open it, if needed you have a 2'mtr x 0,60mtr workbench - excellent if you have to work with plywood sheets.

This is good idea for sure. It’s good to have a central location for stuff to end up. In set building which I do occasionally I use a cart which can fold up and I fashioned a top which acts as an adjacent work top to hold tools or fastener boxes that I don’t want cluttering a work table
My only suggestion is to convert the wheels to all terrain tires sort of like wheel barrow tires but smaller to accommodate mushy or rocky terrain

I love it! I hate the pile of tools I end up with when I'm working in my shop. A version of that would be perfect for all of the various tools I end up dragging around my shop at home.

That’s pretty cool! I can see this ease a job site organisation big time! Even at a home remodelling of a certain scale this would be a huge improvement for keeping the tools organised - as you say.. tools to harvest all over the floor..
I was planning a small systainer cabinet on wheels with pull out drawers just for the systainers.. now you got me thinking to widely expand my initial idea! Great idea and work Rob!

This would be a great set up for any shop. Magnetic strips could be added, and maybe consider adding a white board above the desk. Great stuff. I'm not on worksites anymore but definitely going to build one for my shop.

This is great. Even as a homeowner I could benefit from something like this to make space in the garage and then when doing a job in the house it would keep things tidy. Thanks

Love this idea for keeping tools organized during the day. I use something similar. Mine is smaller and features through tenons so that it can breakdown to a flat stack that goes in my van.

Consider a removable panel for the front for security and transport, which could double as a workstation tabletop with a pair of sawhorses.

Pretty cool. I have a stone age version for the predrywall stage just for keeping odds and sods. But this vid inspired me to do a 2nd post drywall version. Maybe with french cleats and packout racks.

Love the integration of t-track for the lighting, particularly for the shop plan table - one of the many features that seems scaleable and highly customizable.
Vertical build for easy roll-in/out of the jobsite and EOD clean-up is a serious win win for everyone making use of this cart. 👌
This reminds me of a more robust Rockler Pack Rack system but I'm curious which you'd find more useful or cost effective for a home workshop?

I go into houses and do punch lists. I always take a cart with me. I refuse to have paint cans or rollers floating all around the floors. Everything is on a rolling cart.
(That was my answer to you question)

Really cool, thanks for showing. Having the mini clip in the video for context on what you were talking about, was useful. However - the slide in transitions which moved the whole video made me really dizzy. Hope you can avoid that slide in transition in future videos and just make the side clips appear overlaid. I'm a seasoned video watcher and that made me have to pause and stop watching. Example of a good way of doing is 3:42 where it just pops in with no movement of the entire video. Thanks again.
