Well, after watching you and your passion for this build, as a 77 year old car nut, I must say, you have nailed it! Your car is exactly as I would have done it, right down to the white letter tires, GOOD JOB! Hope ya have a ball at Power Your, I'll be watching for ya!
I did install the old transmission gear set and offset because of a conversation between Mike, Mike, yourself and me. We decided that to use it because of the offset and the gear itself after the new one leaked originally. I'm so glad that after you put the New gearset in that it didn't leak any longer.
As a proud pervious owner of a custom '88 SS myself: I totally understand how this became your passion project. Watching this video has been so nostalgic for me, I've been getting goosebumps during multiple clips and just listening to the familiarly sweet music to my ears that it makes when it idles. Thank you so much for making this series! I truly appreciate what you're doing with this car, despite the videos not gaining much traction. It has brought back so many fun memories that I thought were lost to time, but they were buried somewhere deep in my mind - just waiting for someone like you to trigger them back and I can't thank you enough for that. 🧡 I even had a lot of the same issues that you've talked about in this series like the belts being so tight that they were bending the shaft of every water pump I threw in it. I wound up doing the same as you and loosening the belts a bit to "fix" the issue. This of course caused the same type of squeaky belt issue that you have but I was in high-school at the time and got made fun of a lot because of it. However, I enjoyed getting the last laugh when I would engulf them in a cloud of smoke while doing donuts around them in an empty parking lot across the street from the school where I could get away with such shenanigans 😅 Among many of my peers, it was affectionately known as "JT's souped-up hooptie" - especially because the engine had just been replaced (with a much better one, much like yours - except "better" in the late '90s also meant "bigger") by my friend who sold it to me right before I bought it. That required just a "little bit" of front-end modification to make it fit - so basically, the entire front of the car was stripped down to bare metal and bondo to make the necessary extensions and then it was then primed, but not painted right before he had a family emergency and had to move out of state in a hurry. Literally bought it off of him for a steal because of this and I still feel bad for that to this date even though he insisted that he was fine with it, and that he really wanted me to have it despite not being able to afford anything remotely close to the price that it was actually worth. He just knew how much I loved and appreciated it from hanging out with him, I guess. Never got around to repainting it unfortunately, because after having it for only a few of the best months of my car-owning life, I got T-boned by a Ford Explorer going 55mph+ right in the drivers-side door. Was lucky to survive that crash. Mine had a split bench seat in the front and by some twist of fate: the seatbelt latch that I was supposed to clip into had broken a few days prior to the crash so I clipped in to the passenger's side instead as a temporary fix. The doctors who operated on me said that when they brought me in, the paramedics were in awe that they found me alive because they often saw seatbelt decapitations (or fatal spinal injuries at best) as a result of such collisions and I should consider myself extremely lucky because clipping into the passenger's side was probably the only reason that I survived, aside from the fact that these cars were built like tanks. Was a "total loss" according to the insurance but I still had plans to fix her up because I just couldn't stand to see her in the shape she was in after that. I was still living with mom at the time so I parked it in her back yard and told her about my plans but when I went off to Job Corps for a year, she had other plans and sold it to a junkyard for $100 that I never saw a penny of. Needless to say, I was completely devastated when I got home and found out. What she didn't know at the time was the practically new, undamaged engine in that thing alone was worth well over 10x what I paid for the entire car. If she only knew how much the basic parts on that thing are worth today... I don't have it in my heart to tell her though. Anyways... thanks again for helping me take that trip down memory lane. I could tell you so many more stories of the good times I had in that thing in the short amount of time that I was lucky enough to own it, but I don't have time for that today, and I've already written enough for a single post, I suppose. 🤣 I just hope that this inspires you a bit to keep going forward with this series. I'm sure I'm not the only guy who could share a story or two about their old Monte Carlo experience and how it impacted their lives. I hope to see many more episodes about this car come out in the future because I'm truly enjoying every single second of it!
Loving the Monte content! Also respect that you’re keeping that original look to the car. I never would have imagined sun visors costing so much! Keep up the good work!
I really appreciate your attention to detail, Randy, and making sure that repairs are properly done. Great job!! You also have great enthusiasm and inflection in your voice which I think is a big part of what makes you enjoyable to listen to. Thanks for the fix-up videos, too, in addition to the walk arounds.
Love these Chevy Monte Carlos SS. Like you said Randy,..those side pipes behind the rear wheels look unique and a new paint job will make it looking AWESOME 👍😎
These are the videos I love and look forward to, I guess cause I’m from this era, the mustangs, Camaros, corvettes and Monti Carlos , all cars we’ve owned and pretty much can’t afford anymore lol great videos!
Nice car, Randy. I like subtle. I miss my '76 Monte Carlo. The only thing I ever did to it besides oil, tires, etc. was an A/C compressor and high pressure A/C LINE. I got the compressor for free. I had a friend who was a city bus mechanic, and he did the A/C work on the busses. The busses had two A/C compressors, and when one went bad, they changed both. He put a pulled one in my car, changed the high pressure hose and put the oil and freon in. It was super cold after that.
It’s a shame ppl criticize you I don’t get it, it’s your money and your time and you are the one driving it. I really enjoy your content and look forward to seeing more of SS related content
Recommend you replace dash lamps with LED`s. I did it on my 80 El Camino and it makes a world of difference for night time driving. You can actually see the gauges.
Hey Randy I watch your channel everyday. And I hear what your saying toward the end of the vid. Don't focus on the negative people keep moving forward and like you said it's the way you want it your unique way of going about the projects. I support you and respect you and all the decisions you make. To all the haters mind your own if you read this respect Randy's channel or go somewhere else remind yourself its not your stuff its Randys. Keep up the good work Randy. Focus on posative. Some people are just so jealous and don't have anything or even a channel and are just miserable people. Later!!!
I’ll agree the views haven’t been there but i love it! My friend had one. She’s a beast glad you finally figured out the water pump issue! She’s definitely a beast! OMG Randy lol avoid the noid so remember that! I kept them in business back in the day!
It sounds bad ass Randy and looks amazing under the hood. Y’all have built a car I’d love to own One of those childhood dream cars I always thought was so good looking
Great Seeing The 1987 Monte Carlo SS 383 (Stroker) V-8 Full Build Back Randy, I’ve Always Loved The Era G-Body Monte Carlo SS, Olds Hurst, Buick Grand National, Back In High School, Such Cool Cars, Takes Me Back To A Different Time, Never Mind The Nay-Sayers Randy, Your Hard Work Is Appreciated, Keep Up Great Work..
I like the content of the Monte Carlo. and you're doing everything that I would do to that car. I can't believe somebody doesn't like it. They must not be a motorhead.
You got my attention, takes me back to the 80s, car sounds perfect, we raced dirt track and gutted, roll caged, alot of mint ones back in the day. Power tour will be awesome.
Hey Randy, I've learned a long time ago that most folks will never understand a man with hobbies and a passion for cars. I'm looking forward to the processes involved with the Monte Carlo. People need to let you live your life man.
There is a pressure switch that you screw into the side of the trans with a weatherpack plug that goes to your square TCC plug on the trans. Then all you need is power and ground and it will lock your converter up once you hit overdrive.
That adapter you took off the speedometer cable is for making your speedometer accurate by changing the gears in it! so with the other transmission it was probably right!
I truely love this car randy Do you remember the 1950 classic car you had the one you had problems with getting it painted Iv been a subscriber now since you had that car from the 50s the one with the fins on the back of the car I I guess what I’m saying is I love your channel Randy and I’ve been in the subscribe now for too many years to count now. I think you’re fabulous fantastic and love and all the Cars videos. You take care and stay strong and don’t let them bring you down.
Randy, with the Monte Carlo rebuild, you have entered the expensive and time consuming world of auto restoration. It is truely a labor of devotion. Congrats.
Nice job Randy! It's coming along! The engine sounds fantastic! Love that chop! I would avoid any hard launches from a dead stop if you want that rearend to last. At least until you can get an upgraded one. You guys are close to being on your way to Power Tour!
I’ve had several Monte carlos…my first was a 86 SS the same color as yours…it was all original and I regret the day I got rid of it…my last was a white 87 SS that had a replacement motor 350 and some aftermarket wheels…these cars drive so well I get why you love the car..all the modifications you have done are great and I think you have done good keeping the car with an original look..I hope to get another one day …interestingly my first Monte was used as an undercover car by the local Sheriffs office before I bought it used
Hey Randy. Great job on the Monty. That car deserves a 500HP motor. I don’t know what GM was thinking by putting in a 185HP engine. The Monte Carlo SS from the eighties was always one of my favourites. I just love what you have done with it. Thanks for sharing the work you have done with it. Can’t wait to see the videos from Power Tour with the Monty.
Amazing work, and the wheels are period correct for the Monte. I've seen Monte Carlos 78 to 88 both SS and Normal with the wheels. Amazing, you are inspiring me to bring out my 1979 Caprice Classic 2 door out storage soon.
I love your passion for the car can't wait to see when it's totally done I built a 80 El Camino 38 years ago my cousin worked at a Chevy dealership (body shop manager) & my mother packed chassis's parts (4 coil springs $40)
I absolutely love this car Randy and all the changes that you are making are really awesome too. You’re making it your own and that’s all that matters. I enjoy the hell out these videos. Can’t wait to see it after the paint job and lights are done. Awesome work!
Love the shirt. I like a 9 for all purpose. But you mentioned the vehicle with all the 22's in it that didn't go thru. The problem with that cal is it's not a thru round but it will raddle around inside making it more of a problem. That's what I've heard.
Monte Carlo is nor my taste. Don't know anything about these cars, but love your passion. Just do it the way you like it. Thanks for the great entertainment, Randy. Greetings from Germany, Martin
I love your Monte and I appreciate the work you’re doing on her. My second new car was an 86 Monte Carlo LS but I got it with the SS DRIVE TRAIN. She was sweet. The only mod I could get for it back in 86 was the high performance chip you had to install in the computer. So I bought it and installed it myself. What a difference So just know I’m loving the Monte Carlo build. I agree with you. It’s your car build her the way you want her. They Nay sayers will just have to get over it. GOD BLESS Brother.👏
You and your little brother were real. Poor man’s people, got me hooked. You know better than anyone what people watch , as for me I do watch it all but I’m especially fond of the brothers trying to get the poor man’s straight 6 going . Dance with the one that brought you.
Randy, it is good that you're knocking out the small jobs that make a big difference. The transmission pawl is what locks the transmission when you put it into the park position. You should still use the parking brake as well. I'm sure you will find damage to the pawl when you come to pull the transmission sump. This was most likely caused by putting the transmssion into park without using the parking brake putting strain on the pawl. A former work colleague (I'll call him Michael) in the early 2000s parked his Rover 800 (sold as the Rover Sterling in the US) on a slope with the transmission in drive and the parking brake on. Somehow, it rolled downhill demolishing a neighbour's wall. We called his car the "runaway Rover" after that. You don't want your Monte Carlo to suffer the same fate after all the money you've put into it.
A very beautiful thing to see your baby's speedometer working! Love seeing it RIP👊 at a Ken Miles 5,000RPM keeping it clean! Nice share on something you love! I feel ya✌️
thats transmission return line hose, the TOC stands for transmission oil cooler, ppl who are cheap buy it cause fuel hose is like $2 more a foot at auto zone
It's too bad the MC SS content isn't getting the views. I love the MC SS. I look forward to seeing the future videos on it. I like what you are doing to it Randy. 👍👍
Hey Randy, I just saw the video on the Monte Carlo that you have that you’re gonna take it to power tour in June. I think you’re doing an awesome job with it and I can’t wait to see your next video on it and all these hate comments that you’re getting from everybody else. I honestly think they’re nuts. I think they should mind their own business and what they say and let you do what you want to do with your own car. Don’t let anybody else say what to do with your car man don’t let anybody talk you into. or doing something different don’t let anybody change your mind man you can do whatever you want. I think you’re a wonderful person and I think you get to do what you want to do with your own car and screw what everybody else says about it and comments about it just do what you wanna do. Do you like anybody push you around it’s your car for God sake don’t let anybody push you around man I mean I know you’re not gonna let anybody push you around, but they need to mind their own business and let you do what you do. to you to your own vehicle I think you and monkey monkey wrench Mike is going to have a awesome time with this car. Add power tour count coming up here soon, so I just wanted to let you know how I felt about it and I’ll be looking out for your next video on the Monte Carlo I love what you do just keep the Contant coming and I’ll be watching for your next video on this car and any other video that you got coming out I love what you do man just keep it up. I guess I’ll talk to you later. Have a good night.
Congrats on the fix! I'm not sure how successful you'll be delivering pizza while getting 11MPG on premium, but good luck. I find the highlighted "55" on the speedo to be a quaint reminder of the era the car was built. (They were AWFUL then lol)
Hello Randy. Sending the Monte Carlo down to Maco to get repainted. You've spent a great deal of money to get her ready for Power Tour and I believe you'll win Power Tour.
Good video Randy. Good job with the car . If you go over the amount you spend enjoy for a little while you still will get alot out if it when you sale .
The first speedo gear you removed was a gear reduction setup. The old school speedo guys would just make one to correct the speedo versus trial and error on gears available. Don't trash it.
Hey Randy I personally like the choices on this Monte Carlo SS. I always loved these made from 1983-1988 and the Cutless Supreme 442 as well were so cool cars. Most of these Monte Carlo's had the Crappy Buick 231 V-6 (1979-1984) and then the standard engine was from (1985-1988) the 4.3 4300 262 CID V-6 same as the S-10 trucks from(1988-2005). The wheels and tires are period correct aftermarkets as well and tastefully done while keeping everything else original.I would like to send you a cassette mix tape with period correct music for the tape deck. I will send one for free.
Well we need to know what was happening, you get paid for views, thats cool,we enjoy watching your build on this,im here to tell you cars are plentiful in usa,you have some lovely vehicles over there compared to Australia, so apart from your ram,and Jessica mustang, would you run an older car as a daily, just wondering, I know your busy with all the projects keep up the good work man, cheers from 🇦🇺 Australia 🇦🇺
I have an SS the same color as yours. I have touched every part of this car. People complain at car shows because it's not original. I tell them to walk on to the next car or meet me on the highway.
My favorite was the grand national but you have done a great job on the monte carlo. You might consider put a set of lower numeric gears since youll be highway cruising for the tour, save a little on gas.
It’s a shame the Monte Carlo isn’t getting the views it deserves! Thank you for posting more videos on it!
Well, after watching you and your passion for this build, as a 77 year old car nut, I must say, you have nailed it! Your car is exactly as I would have done it, right down to the white letter tires, GOOD JOB! Hope ya have a ball at Power Your, I'll be watching for ya!
Well said sir..
Good to read positive comments
@ayo9057he doesn’t sell to the public. You have to buy it from Copart.
I did install the old transmission gear set and offset because of a conversation between Mike, Mike, yourself and me. We decided that to use it because of the offset and the gear itself after the new one leaked originally. I'm so glad that after you put the New gearset in that it didn't leak any longer.

Among many of my peers, it was affectionately known as "JT's souped-up hooptie" - especially because the engine had just been replaced (with a much better one, much like yours - except "better" in the late '90s also meant "bigger") by my friend who sold it to me right before I bought it.
Your Monte Carlo sounds great. It has just enough chop.
Great video & progress! Can’t wait to see it completed. You do what makes you happy, it’s your car & your money.

That "Oh $h1t" moment with the transmission just brightened up my Monday! I laughed so hard I almost bust my gut! Thanks Randy!

Hi Randy the car looks good and sounds very nice can’t wait for power tower thanks Randy
Glad you got the Mc ready for you an Mike have a safe trip

I for one love what your doing with it randy I had a nova built up when I was younger to almost 800 horses it was insane and I miss it alot
That 305 5.0 that you took out would make a good boat anchor. I love what you’re doing with that car . Keep up the great work.

You know what the fun thing about your car with your money is…. ITS YOURS, do whatever you want. Even negative comments count as views and comments. 👍
Put LEDs in dash big clarity improvement
Excellent car. I love it. You're looking good Randy. All the best
I love watching Your videos Randy so excited about this Beast
Great job on the exhaust exits. Gives it the GNX look.
Soo close to 500k subs!!
There are many words in the English language, but for lack of a better word, I'll say I love what you do on UA-cam. I needed you to know that.
That was probably coolant hose on the fuel. Seems to be running super well. Good job
Do your thing Randy 😎😎👍👍Enjoy your modified Monte Carlo SS
A very beautiful thing to see your baby's speedometer working! Love seeing it RIP👊 at a Ken Miles 5,000RPM keeping it clean! Nice share on something you love! I feel ya✌️
So excited for that car. If you’re going to Powertour, it’ll be so so much fun! Love that car and this project l!
Love the videos on the Monte Carlo keep them coming, from down under👌
Love the car. Best car ever. Glad it's you doing all you do Randy. Thank you for doing this. My favorite all time car ever. Keep it up.
thats transmission return line hose, the TOC stands for transmission oil cooler, ppl who are cheap buy it cause fuel hose is like $2 more a foot at auto zone
It's too bad the MC SS content isn't getting the views. I love the MC SS. I look forward to seeing the future videos on it. I like what you are doing to it Randy. 👍👍
I wish you had put that beautiful engine into that beautiful Z24 Cavalier that you had, now that would of been a good build!!!
Love the monte carlo you keep up the good work 👏.
Two tone black over white would look awesome with that stripe kit as the divider
Great video and work😀💪
The machines to make those vents in your Monte Carlo are upwards of a million dollars a piece!😊
The Monte is going to look so good when Maaco is done with her!
I put a monster in my 96 GMC,4WD Suburban. That transmission was amazing 👏.
I am enjoying the progress on this car you will always get some people with negative comments would be great to know what they drive and own
I think what you have done to that car has made it badass
Congrats on the fix! I'm not sure how successful you'll be delivering pizza while getting 11MPG on premium, but good luck. I find the highlighted "55" on the speedo to be a quaint reminder of the era the car was built. (They were AWFUL then lol)
Put in led bulbs for your gauges!! It will definitely make a big difference so you can see at night better!
Hello Randy. Sending the Monte Carlo down to Maco to get repainted. You've spent a great deal of money to get her ready for Power Tour and I believe you'll win Power Tour.
That is a fuel filter. Ive got the same setup. You just unscrew the three lines. And replace it.
Good video Randy. Good job with the car . If you go over the amount you spend enjoy for a little while you still will get alot out if it when you sale .
Very similar things I wanna do with my 88 cavalier Z24 project! Exhaust cut out button for going under a Tunnel🤝
Your car, your vision. Do what makes you happy if you're keeping it.
The first speedo gear you removed was a gear reduction setup. The old school speedo guys would just make one to correct the speedo versus trial and error on gears available. Don't trash it.
Man can't wait to see the finish project my I love the Monte Carlo videos
Do what you want to! Make yourself happy!
I love any G body good job Randy
Car is sick man, love it. Your car do what u want with it, screw the haters.
I'm enjoying watching you do the car
Well we need to know what was happening, you get paid for views, thats cool,we enjoy watching your build on this,im here to tell you cars are plentiful in usa,you have some lovely vehicles over there compared to Australia, so apart from your ram,and Jessica mustang, would you run an older car as a daily, just wondering, I know your busy with all the projects keep up the good work man, cheers from 🇦🇺 Australia 🇦🇺
It's your car don't worry about other people complaining it's there problem they just the a problem with themselves
The Monte is looking awesome 🫡
I have an SS the same color as yours. I have touched every part of this car. People complain at car shows because it's not original. I tell them to walk on to the next car or meet me on the highway.
Funniest video I ever watched😂 with all the cussing
That "fuel line" actually looks like vacuum hose.
Such a cool car.
DUDE.......U DID THE RIGHT THANG. U NEEDS TO KEEP THIS ONE. G BODY ALL THE WAY😂😂😂
The Monte Carlo is A beautiful car it deserves more views
Woah a face melting 5000 rpm!
My favorite was the grand national but you have done a great job on the monte carlo. You might consider put a set of lower numeric gears since youll be highway cruising for the tour, save a little on gas.
