88-89 I worked at the Baltimore plant building those vans. I was a summer employee. Drank beer on the job every day.
The silly little thing on the kawi is a dual kickstand, while standing next to the bike balance it up on two wheels step on the dual stand and pull up and back it will lift up and is very stable no leaning. A very useful tool to have.
The little boy in Randy is still alive and well.

Clean the van up and give it a paint job. Sand the wood down and restain it and seal it.
It's a good van for someone living in a house but planning to become a part-time nomad, to get. I'd advise against it for someone going fulltime vanlife/nomad, due to risk of breakdown. But if someone can maybe spend a year using it part time, maybe it would even be OK as a fulltime rig later after it had been fixed up and proven itself. Hard to say.
The best-known UA-cam nomadic vanlilfer in an old Astro/Safari was Alyssa Vanilla. It suffered a fatal breakdown after a couple of years, after a few repairable breakdowns and problems. She then got a much newer Promaster City, before getting out of vanlilfe (for a while or permanently is TBD).
The fancy conversion, power seat/bed setup wastes a lot of space compared to someone doing their own conversion, if planning to live in it. For road trip van or camping/party van, I am sure it was a sweet setup.
Yes have always liked audio. Had a competition Rockford Fosgate system I'm my 81 Cutlass with 18 speakers back in the late 80s early 90s.
I have that exact Topdon 4000 charger. When they first came out, there was a short while when you could get that one for $28 and the 8 amp one for $48. Sadly, what they sell as the 4000 now is very different. That long skinny one that we have is great. I have no idea whether the smaller one now, is any good or not.
I used mine to charge and recondition two garden tractor batteries, and I routinely used it to recharge 50Ah and 100Ah LiFePO4 batteries when camping. Its "Lithium setting" is fine for LiFePO4. It draws little enough that I can run it plus my 50 liter freezer in the car at the same time, off a little 300W pure sine wave inverter plugged into the 12V car (cigarette lighter type) outlet, which is fused at 10A, so I can only draw 120W max. Being able to run the freezer plus recharge the LiFePO4 with this charger whenever I have the car on, is a huge win, even if I'm now going to also upgrade to a bigger inverter wired and fused separately straight from the car battery.

If you use old English wood oil in a darker color, it will revive that wood and the stains won't looks as noticeable. I can't believe how great she is running! And, yah that is a cool van! :)

The Kawasaki lever you a wondering about is the center stand for stabilizing the bike when you work on it or transport it on a trailer or tuck.

That pedal on the bike is the center stand. Hold the handlebars and bike straight, step on that pedal and pull back on the bars and the bike will raise and be on the stand leaving the rear tire in the air.
Some Van lifer might want it if you can fix it up a bit! They can gut it an make it their own
That pedal on the Kawasaki motorcycle that you don't know what it is that is the sinner's stand you have to push down on it and pull back on the handlebars and the bike will come up off the ground in the back wheel will be off the ground
I want a conversion van just cause... Just cause... had a G20 Conversion when I was 16 and let my dad junk it cause I was to lazy to fix the converter issue it had. Was in amazing condition, I miss it man, OG stipes and paint and all man was in good condition. No dents or anything.

My wife and I used to have an Astro, I loved that thing. Engine had problems and we eventually sold it. I always wondered about a V8 swap. I’ve seen articles but a video would be cool. Shame to waste this working 4.3, though.

This is one of those vehicles that the doors will lock you out if you're not careful.
I sold these vans back in the day, surprising what a good product they were. I had customers who would come up to me and tell me stories of the vans I sold them new. Always made me happy to hear my customers were very happy with them.

Nice van. Whoever owned that van was either in the military, family member of a military member, or worked on a military base. The military used to require stickers on vehicles that required access to base on a regular basis. I couldnt read the sticker, but it might say which base the owner lived and worked at.
the "weird little kick stand" is a center stand. It lifts lifts the back of the bike off the ground.
my grandfather had the same year van just not the conversion part. it was very reliable, it has over 400k on it and not once has it broken down only thing he's done is normal oil changes. they don't make cars like they used to and that's a fact

This van was born when I graduated from high school 🏫 😊. I would love to have one of these. Much easier to deal with than the current generation of vehicles 😊
Growing up in the late 90s my dad had a 91 Safari he bought pre owned in 94 right before I was born and let me tell ya he drove the hell out of. He sold it in 2015 with just shy of 450k miles to one of his buddies that really needed a ride. Never touched the engine other than basic little things like water pumps and such. Just 1 transmission and rear-end replacement at around 370k miles
I drove a Safari for work and an Astro in a later job and loved them. Wondered why they did away with them.
That is a kickstand to set it up straight, level. You stand it up ,push down and pull back on the bike. It brings up off the rear wheel. Try it and you will see. It may be a little hard by yourself but it will work.
I worked for O Sullivan's. They closed down in 2007. That cabinet will survive a fire just don't get it wet.

When I lived in Korea (06-09) wed a used Chevy Astro van just like that and it was AWFUL! I was only 1-3 years old but yeah. I love that one and keep it up randy what a steal!!! ❤
Elbow grease it in course of couple months and sell it for $1500.

My Mom had a few of those Astro vans and had a Safari that was set up a lot like this one. I’ve always liked them and honestly wouldn’t mind having one! Also, love the audio equipment. A turntable will complete it!

Randy the vortec v6 is an absolute beast I had a 2003 work truck that had 265,000 when I sold it to a good buddy of mine. He drove it another 200,000 miles the odometer read 465,000 when he got t-boned in it that ended its life otherwise it was running awesome....
That home sound system is Badazz! I have a vintage setup from the 70s merged with my Sony Surround Sound from the early 2000s. Can’t beat vintage gear💯!
Had 95 Astro AWD that 4.3 was amazing put 295 thousand miles on it with only basic maintenance was living in fear of fuel injection spider failure but it never did. Was amazing in the winter.
Best purchase of all time! I've owned 3vof those. 94,96,2005. All are fantastic. 4.3 engines in them are perfect. Basically a 350 engine with 2 cylinders cut off the block. The engines are awesome. Great mileage. The wood on those are easy to clean if not completely damaged. Otherwise you did well! I'd buy it if I lived closer. I'm in Cincinnati. Love those Astros and the gmc version

My Grandpa still own his 1992 Chevy S10. His has the 4.3 Vortec motor and he still drives it.

Oooh, How about putting a Smeding Performance Cammed 350 engine in the Astro. Dont paint it. Send it to Maaco and have them just clear over the Patina. New tires, refurb the OEM wheels and replace a few other mechanical hardware and take the Astro to Power Tour 2025...😊

for batteries i have a NOCO GENIUS 5 & a NOCO GENIUS 10. i can recondition or charge pretty much any battery (including LITHIUM). love NOCO products.

I would love to have that van. Do you think it would pull a small trailer with a lawn tractor on it. My Traverse really doesn't pull it very well. Love the older vehicles you get and save, I hope you get that Monte back together and ditch the trans people who screwed you over. Keep em coming Randy and I'll be watching.

It's got a pile of miles on it but if you spent a little time fixing some small things, and took it to the auto spa
and had them detail the interior really good, it would make someone a good cheap rig.

I wished my parents had one so I could live in it, with TV (incl nintendo), cool lights, comfortable seats, etc. 😎

Hey Randy you seem to like odd ball vehicles you ever heard of a 2500 Chevy Avalanche with the 8.1L vortec? Not for sale but I have one and can say I have never seen one before they did them 2002-2006 in the 1st gen avalanche's.
Hey Randy. I think that other kickstand on the Kawasaki may be a two legged kickstand that holds the bike up more strait and secure.
You have to hold the bike strait up and pull it back while you are pushing the kickstand pushing down on the left side and she’ll go back and up to stand on her own

Give it a good cleaning inside and out, maybe give it a cheap oil change, try to fix AC and anything else easily fixable, then send to copart, i would think you should be able to get at least 1000$ out of it
I think you need to "outsource" the cleaning up of the interior to Santa or Monkey Wrench Mike; set them a challenge and then reward them with the van for free !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s definitely a kickstand! You step on it while pulling on the handlebars and the bike will stand up straight! I guess it’s a safer option Versus the old style kickstands and 😊

My stepdad had few of this .they are really fast but they go uncontrollably in a specific speed . Not only that but the motor it's so close to the driver. He crash in one of this and survive.
We also had a Chevy van dura . The one has a tick steel all around it .
