What I really like about the reviewers works is your power to steer the companies in the right direction. I have a TRex-3 and your review was spot on. I really hope Amazfit is listening! Thank you for your work.
Love the review from you… good quality as always. I have the watch for over 2 months and your reviews are close to what I have experienced. Thank you and have a nice new year.
I been rocking it for 3 weeks and I love it has been solid however one thing to mention they did an update to be able to reply to text only works with android operating systems IOS you don’t have the capability. The most for me important feature is tracking my sleep apnea has been on point and it deviated 2% from my CPAP machine.
Upgraded from a Fenix 6 pro, but compared to a real Garmin it underperforms in a lot of detailed features. Like mapping is just a picture instead of offering real navigation.
Hi Des I am one of your earliest subscribers from Nepal. I watch your reviews regularly and have garnered a significant amount of knowledge on the sports wearables. My request here to you is to do a review on Huawei watch GT5 and GT5 Pro. I know those are banned in the US but nonetheless you can give it a shot. Thank you.
I'm going to hit the thumbs down button twice. Reviewer didn't even test the chess board game activity type or the ball room dancing. 🕺 These are features we need to know about!!!
@@DesFit - I can confirm that using "Garmin Killer" is indeed click bait. Although, it's pretty clear that Amazfit is using Garmin as a guide for a lot of the features they're implementing. Great review Des!!!
Great review. Amazfit is definitely on the right track, and honestly watching this as a happy Suunto Race S user, I feel like even if not now, my next watch will probably be an amazfit
Nice review. I did pick up one with my leftover FSA money this year. So far pretty impressed with its ease of use and functionality. I also got it with the Helios ring. As far as I am aware, only watch ring combo that work with each other. I use a polar H10 strap for HR most exercises so the HR of the watch or any watch are only for sleep and non-exercise.
Looks like the T-Rex 3 killed it Des, especially in the Run HR data vs HRM-pro🔥 Have you checked out the Helio ring yet? I’m getting more accurate HR than Fenix 8 with it 🤯
For me, this watch has been super solid except the readiness score which is way too nice to me and for some reason it has problems connecting to my heart rate strap for the first 10 minutes of my runs and this is after I've confirmed that it's connected before the run.
I always had Garmin , (F3, F3hr, vivoactive3, F5, F6pro, F7x) but find them now way to experience and not needed. I bought this Trex3 and I'm really amazed by it. There are some tweaks but for this money ... I also like the UI ... but I find it bigger and more bucky on my wrist than the F7x. I really would liked it a smite less big and bulky !!!
Watching the GPS section made me think that it's crazy Garmin is selling the Fenix E for $800 without dual band technology. It was already a miss years back when they used to call it Epix Gen 2.
Especially strange considering that the Instinct 2X, for which I paid 270 €, does have dual band GPS. Even the cheapo Huawei models like the GT5 have dual band. Garmin is way overpriced.
I would like to see a review of this watch on freediving activity. So far no one has uploaded yet. By far the feature of this watch is very good for the price.
The features on the t-rex 3 are better than expected, but I remember they have a higher end smartwatch line called the Falcon. I wonder when it will have a new version?
Yes, the T Rex 3 is not a Garmin Kilker. But I had the Garmin Fenix 8 and for me it wasn't worth the money at all!!! I can't understand the hype about Garmin watches. The operating system on the Fenix 8 was a disaster... too slow, too tedious to find anything quickly!! Amazfit is doing everything right and they will continue to grow.
Agree. I have an admittedly old Garmin Felix 6S solar, but I’ve hated the UI from almost the beginning. Every setting feels buried under wrong headings. I still have ptsd of taking 3 days to learn how to use the darn watch and setting it up. Stuff like sleep tracking and hrv and stuff seem like marketing gimmicks. I never use the body battery or any of that nonsense that always tells me to rest more. If I rested that much, I’d be resting more than working out and probably be morbidly obese by now. If hrv meant anything, I think I would’ve had 3 strokes already instead of getting healthier. Takes half the battery to change one watch face setting and get it to work properly and multiple power cycles. Still have updates that never update on IQ app. Wi-Fi connection always messes up and when I get a brown out, often need the watch power cycled to get the Wi-Fi connected again and then of course it takes like 20-30% battery just to figure out what went wrong with the Wi-Fi, and get it working again. Then, have to recharge the damn watch again to top it off. All these people who think all those marketing “health” metrics help them… should use that time to go run or exercise instead of fiddling with their watches, imo. It’s like nerds who like to mess with Android or windows who think it’s so great to be able to mess with settings.. while Apple users actually get things done or playstation user actually play games. If you need a sleep tracker and a body recharge figure to figure out whether you’re tired or not, you need more than a watch… you need common sense. If you’re sleepy, guess what? You had poor sleep! I once took a coach plan for half marathon and never started it… it glitched and now I can’t remove it and start another. Bugged out!!!! Garmin = Canadians= Americans with an ample helping of French laziness and questionable work ethics, hence why their economy is in toilet imo. Garmin feels like a ford with a helping of Peugeot in my opinion. My watch never connects to weather app consistently and requires me to manually connect my connect app to show the weather… if I need to open my phone, what do I need the weather thingy for on my watch??? Why are there two apps to control one tiny watch??? Does it really need IQ and connect app? How lazy can the company be? Why they never streamlined to 1 app? Fix your 💩, Garmin. My next watch will be an amazfit or a coros. Only thing Garmin has is route mapping due to their gps history, but I carry a phone always with me anyways, don’t need gps routing on a tiny laggy watch face. And I guess the status symbol of, “I can afford to buy this utterly half useless thing that’s overpriced so admire me.” does it even work in 2025? Never worked ever for getting chicks I’m sure. Apple Watch Ultras work better for that I think. Not like I can make an emergency call for an ambulance if I sprain an ankle or have a heart attack… need to carry a phone anyways. After using my watch now almost daily for 3 years and not seeing a single decent update to the god awful software, I don’t know, can’t understand what Garmin fans are on about, and so ready to change. I wonder if the other 2 commenters are Garmin employees tbf. The snarky spelling-Notzi, I surely think likely a Garmin employees cause it seems he took the criticism too personally.
As always, amazing content. In your opinion, which would be a better buy right now. The 2 year old Epix 2 ($348) or this at $268? I walk, run, trail run and hike. Is the 2 year old Epix 2 at less than $100 more a better buy?
Thanks a lot for the review! I am pondering if I should replace my ~5yrs Germin Instinct, at a comparable price point. Now, if the TRex could also nautical maps ...
I am divided between this and Huawei Watch GT5 Pro. Which one to choose? I am going to use the watch for general sleep tracking and for racket sports and running.
Thanks for great video DesFit. I know you're not in to golf, but I wonder if it has those features, with golf course download, distance to pin and score/shot count? This still seems unique to Garmin, why I keep holding on to my Epix. Thx
What do you think about treadmill running with stable speed? Trex offers two way of doing treadmill running, either with setting stable speed or normal mode which is calculating speed like any other watch. I'm curious about your opinion, cause I started to wonder why other sports watch brands doesn't have that mode included.
I agree, this watch is not a Garmin Killer ( far away from that) but is a watch very competitive in this range of price. The future will tell if the trex 4 or 5 can deliver on expectations.
It's a GREAT smartwatch, especially at that price point. But Garmin is still way above about everything activities related. Hopefully, the gap will continue to be narrowed.
Good review as always even though I am not in the market for this watch. Still waiting for the 47mm Tactix! Are you going to do a review like you did in the past? Cheers and Merry Christmas 🎄
I have T Rex 2 , was planning to get T Rex 3 but my issue with Amazfit is accuracy at least in my opinion, my unused T Rex 2 sitting here collecting dust has severe accuracy issues and Amazfit is quick of abandoning their previous products on software updates once they release a new one which is a No No , I ended up going for Garmin Fenix 8 which cost a lot more, it's not perfect either but at least it's accurate with a companion of my apple watch Ultra 2, I think Amazfit makes incredible products specially The build and their battery life is top notch but accuracy and software support are their cons IMO
the gps and sensor (e.g. HR) accuracy has hugely improved with this watch and the amazfit balance. not saying it's a perfect watch as it's not but that area certainly has being hugely improved.
Great review. And interesting watch with great features. I like it, but one problem.. it's freaking ugly in my opinion. Gonna stick with my Instinct 2.
17:13 "Should Garmin be worried? No" I imagine Garmins board would not be so blasé if they are worth their salt Losing any degree of market share is no joke and with the huge contrast in pricing strategy there will undoubtedly be a significant portion of the customer pool who cannot justify Garmins high prices.
I noticed that the T-Rex has been measuring my resting heart rate above 100 beats per minute for the last 10 days. What nonsense. I've been wearing a Garmin Fenix 7 PRO on one hand for about a month now and a T-Rex on the other. I'm testing the latter and the T-Rex3's heart rate is 40-50 and sometimes 60 beats higher than the Garmin's. I have a Polar Verity Sense belt and a clip for measuring heart rate and oxygen. All devices give the same heart rate except for the T-Rex 3, which gives 50 or more beats higher than the Garmin, Polar and the clip. Does anyone have this problem? The watch is in perfect condition and has never been dropped or hit. This is strange because the T-Rex 3 showed a very accurate resting heart rate in the first few weeks, compared to the devices above. I'll write to Amzfit support today. It looks like a defect. I checked everything on different hands, everything is the same.
I have a Garmin Instinct crossover, ordered the T-Rex 3. The T-Rex is a much better smartwatch, but on everything activities related, Garmin is still way above Amazfit. I ended up returning the T-Rex 3, keeping my Monochrome Garmin.
I sold my Fenix 7 (because of the dim MIP display) and bought a Instinct 2X - better contrast on the black and white display. It's easy to read, has huge battery life and almost every feature of the Fenix except "napping" and music. But for music I wear a Huawei on the other wrist for workouts. Huawei has way better sleep tracking but misses HRV and the VO2max is way too optimistic. Everything else though is on par with Garmin - heart rate and GPS accuracy are the same.
It's a specs king. On paper it has everything a Garmin of 3x the price has. But in reality it also has major flaws, like it can't really navigate,it has widgets but they freeze and take time to load, sensors not accurate, they lie about battery claims, has a mic but not a speaker etc.
I don't really agree with your opinion, I have the watch for a month now and nothing has freezed even once, everything runs really smoothly. The gps is one of the best I have used and believe me I have used a lot. Heart rate has disappoint me twice when for about 5 -7 minutes stuck at certain BPM but this is probably due to cold weather and my really frozen hands( I think I have a situation) Speaker is missing ok, but 4 months ago no sports watch had a speaker, same goes with the flashlight. The thing that pleases me more is that many sports are fully customizable and are not plug n play, for instance in padel activity it counts forehands and backhands something that polar or suunto doesn't.Let's see what trex 4 will bring
Strange my sensor, compared to my chest strap is perfect. Best watch i have ever seen. Navigation while riding my MTB also works flawlessly. Maybe a bad unit?
Interesting review. I bought the TR3 upon launch (first Amazfit watch), and it has had multiple updates. As a runner, this watch is amazing value for money, it only really lacks in power features. Yes I can connect my Stryd pod, but it can't sync with the Stryd software, and it has limited power data fields, no Average 3 sec power etc. I've also found that, testing the wrist HR against my Polar H10 is very accurate for me, only 1 or 2 beats difference on average. I still prefer running with the HR strap though. Totally agree with the sleep metrics being a bit wonky, but I've no interest in that, so not an issue for me. I haven't had any slow down at all with the maps, no matter what settings you use, so maybe that issue has been sorted via updates.
If it didn't have that weird octagonal shape, and was offered in a sapphire glass version, and had a torch built in, then I would definitely consider getting one rather than pay through my nose for the latest Garmin Fenix 8 with all those additional features that I do not need, and certainly do not want to pay for either.
I tried and owned many Garmins over the years. IMHO the best deal currently is the Instinct 2X. Insane battery life and has almost everything the Fenix 7 has except "napping" feature and internal music player. I sold both my Fenix 7 Pro and 7X and only use the Instinct now and a Huawei watch on the other wrist (GT5 or Fit 3) for listening to music 😂.

Da p mim dizer aí em português só se é bom ou ruim kkkk pqp
Does all of our Amazfit health information go directly to the Chinese government, or is there a middleman?

Correct, other than what was displayed in the video? (I always check for the latest software before publishing).
Love the review from you… good quality as always. I have the watch for over 2 months and your reviews are close to what I have experienced. Thank you and have a nice new year.
Thanks and happy new year to you as well!
