Uniden had a new product manager that took over after UPMan’s passing. He use to be on RadioReference back in 2021. We haven’t seen much of him since. Sad, because he could have been very instrumental in getting the HomePatrol III to the market.
I have an Idea for the bluetooth connectivity feature. Since I am also one whom is vission impaired, they can make an app to control the HP3, because since it is a touch screen display, not only does it have to talk, but you have to implement specific gestures that will allow the user to perform the same tasks as a person would use on the scanner as far as features. The reason why I am suggesting an app to control the HP3 is because there is already accessibility in iPhone and android products, so Uniden doesn't have to recreate the touch gestures to work with there hp3 scanner if they come out with one. I will give you an example of how Uniden will have to implement the voice feature. Say for example you want to add a trunk system into the scanner to monitor, in order for this to work, you will have to set the scanner into a mode that will prevent the user to accidentaly pressing on the wrong thing while utilizing the touch screen. So Uniden would have to implement a double-tap gesture so that a person whom is blind wouldn't touch something and activate the item that is in focus. That's why I think that Uniden should just make an app for smart phones and lable the buttons on the app itself. I think all they would have to do is follow accessibility guidelines when creating the app for the HP3 and other scanners in there line up if they add bluetooth. Also, Adaptive technology is very cost inefficient. So lets just say that Uniden would add there upgrades to the extreme features, adding accessibility directly into the HP3 would probably increase the amount of money substantially. So if they create an app for already accessible smart phones, they wouldn't have to increase the cost of the scanner, extreme upgrades, and accessibility for people with visual challenges. You would just have to pay for the usual upgrades that Uniden Provides. Just my thoughts. However, I could be wrong about this.
I would just like to see a waterfall display on CB radios or some of the export radios. When is Cb going to start implementing that technology into some of the less expensive radios? Instead of just ham radio’s or as an add-ons.
I've got the original HP in the car that works well forward facing speaker, large buttons to place a hold on the channel and database I can easily change to out of town areas while traveling A+_
Thanks for asking Phil, I really think a remote control of some type (bluetooth, RF, WiFi, after all it is an RF receiver, right?) would be great. I have my Home Patrol on the kitchen counter and when I'm in the living room watching TV and a tone out happens, I want to increase the volume and stop the scanning to see what the call is and follow that particular event. When it's over, I could resume the scan and lower the volume without having to get up and keep adjusting the scanner. This would need the voice prompts to let me know what I'm doing without looking at the scanner, similar to what Mr. Brown was suggesting for visually impaired folks. A small handheld remote would work for me, but I guess the app idea would be OK as well and would probably give a lot more control with visual feedback. I also agree with Sebby and allow the unit to operate WHILE charging the batteries! I know that requires more current and so probably going back to a plug-in power supply would be the ticket. I assume that was changed to allow the power cable to also become the programming cable and eliminate the external power supply? I prefer to have a plug-in power supply and a separate programming cable type setup just like the SDS200 because I'm not programming it all the time, just as needed. Good luck with your health issue, stay positive!
I just got the HP-2 and got the Extreme upgrade and love it. I hope theey do make the HP-3. I dont do the zip code, i use Favorite lists. I love the idea of bluetooth, and being able to not have a computer and being able to do OTA updates on the scanner itself, would be great.
I'd like to see a more streamline body like a ham radio and the I/O on the back. It would have a cleaner more streamline look on a desk with the other radio equipment.
The main reason people listen to scanners is to monitor public safety. With more encryption rolling out, there’s not much left worth spending $600+ on a scanner to listen to. And for what does remain, a $35 Baofeng can not only hear but talk to as well.
If they came out with this with everything you suggested I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. Especially the addition of NXDN/DMR,WI Fi upgradable and ability to hear other areas off Broadcastifiy I'd jump on it in a heartbeat!
I got the radioshack 2096....when they went to digital my analog scanners stopped working.....so I went to radioshack and bought the digital scanner....it worked fine for a month....then they started using encrypted channels....I was pissed...I paid $500+ and it would not pick up the police anymore....I gave up on scanners. M scanner saved my life......there was a maniac in my neighbors back yard....she called the police...and told them she seen this guy in her backyard...and he just jumped the fence into my backyard......I heard the police telling a patrol car to go to my house that the suspect was in my backyard.....I was just getting ready to go out into my pole barn when I heard that...if I would have went out the back door and ran into the maniac.....he was carrying a knife....I would probably been killed.
I hear you. I'm done with trying to keep up with scanners. Everytime you'd buy something new to scan it would be obsolete. Dead air and boring stuff is all that's left.
I honestly hope they release a home patrol 3. If it had DMR, and NXDN out of the box that would be a great thing. Not only that, but if they could fix the antenna thing. I sometimes use the HP2 for as a weather radio, and the short antenna is awful. It gets interference FROM the radio itself. You would need a different antenna, and possibly a longer antenna.
Make it the size of an Ipad. Most users have this in a home or office situation. A larger Ipad size screen with the ability to sit on your desk would be great.
I don't know enough about scanner s but I do like the thought of owning a SDS 200. that is on my list of equipment needed along with 4 Kenwood nx5800 and 4 nx5300 but what is available in the USA is different than what is legally allowed in Canada. This is the biggest problem that I am facing. For example, if I uy a SDS200 for use in Canada, and in a few years sell it , someone in the States might not be able to. Legally be allowed to use in the states duw to changing laws. Who needs the grief? But I like your suggestions for the cool ñew features in the wish list.
Yep. It's been a few years since we've seen any upgrades to that line. But it's still the only scanner out there that does what it does. Without competition, does Uniden feel the need to have to upgrade the SDS line?
The police in my small town sends out an annoying tone when paging the fireman---I wish scanners could mute that---and also zap away automatically all the many unknown noises that often afflict the programmed in frequencies.
I just do not see places like uniden coming out with anything new in the scanner world. Sadly so much is dying these days and I bet they figure sales would just not be there. I hope I'm wrong
Scanners are a dead hobby for me. I will not spend another dime on it only to be disappointed when you can't receive anything good. For those who continue to pursue the hobby good luck. Tired of paying good money for dead airtime and boring communications.
I’m currently in the market for a scanner and thought I wanted the HPII because of its ease of use. After researching for hours, I’ve discovered that it seems like it’s dated and just not an otherwise good scanner. Range is bad, frequent problems…If they improved range and added the features you mentioned, I’d buy the III in a heartbeat.
Yesss! All of it please. Lets go Uniden, get after it!
Hopefully add simulcast
Great Video Phil Yes I’m With You On A Home Patrol 3 Having Those Features
Depends where you live. Where I live scanners are mostly dead, you can't give them away due to encryption. Even EMS is encrypted.
Where roughly do you live?
Also needs to scan faster and have some sort of volume equalizer so all levels of reception are the same.
A home patrol 3 would be a great addition to my scanner shack
Yes it would! Hope your doing well.

I have 4 BCT 15X scanners that I know I’m not getting the full use out of them so something like this would be a wonderful upgrade
What good is it when e everything is encryped.
I'm waiting for one that will pick up and decipher encrypted coms.
A waterfall display really would be awesome.
Awesome video .. I would love to see that.. I would be like please hurry up take my credit card information 😎
I'd like GPS that changes systems as you travel down the road. Close capture is a great idea.
A Tetra upgrade would be awesome! We're seeing more and more Tetra systems deployed in North America.
NAILED IT , THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT!!!!!
Amen to the waterfall! 👍

Not a bad idea! I’m looking for the same thing

Close call would make it more awesome
It would. I forgot the HomePatrol didn’t have that feature.
Excellent

Hi Phil, the next time you update your resume add mind reader, that’s exactly what I would want in a HPIII wish list!!! 👍👍
I studied under Carnac the Magnificent 😜
@@ScannerSchool 😂
Good luck. Like all your ideas. But very very expensive

Great podcast! I would also suggest that the HP-3 include Close Call which was never included with this radio series.
You are right. That would be great suggestion. I forgot the HP1 and HP2 did not include CC.

How about an upgrade for the SDS 100 + 200???...🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

GPS, Streaming, and OTA updating via Wi-Fi.
I have a home patrol 1 would be nic to have WiFi to update it wireless like smart phone
You failed to mention "Close Call" this is the only Uniden scanner that doesn't have it!!
This is a cool looking radio now I want one.
The police in my small town sends out an annoying tone when paging the fireman---I wish scanners could mute that---and also zap away automatically all the many unknown noises that often afflict the programmed in frequencies.
Let me plug it in and listen while it charges pleaseeeeee
To dream the impossible dream 😢
Boa noite
Sou do Brasil consigo um desses aqui
Oi boa tarde vc quer o homer patrol
Why Can't These New Cell Phones Run Software And A Dongle To Do The Same Thing???
What my scanner want come on

Saying that the homepatrol works well on
simulcast is freakin hilarious. Noob!
Waste of money..... Encrypted......areas.
Even if you had encryption in the radio. Their are some who'd want an adjustable algorithm. Your radio would be out of date before you knew it.
Switch zello apk 😤💩💩💩
