Great pictures of young leith children sadley bare foot but tough and look happy enough . so glad we can appreciate them and the camera being invented .noticed afew pictures have been edited, fascinated by the girl pictured who was she I wonder .thanks
Had never heard of Leith until my wife got us a AirBnB there several years ago. And we walked its streets and parks and visited the markets and shops. And we ate in its restaurants and sat in its pubs. And we walked along its waterways and I tried to image what it was like in its ship building days with the teems of people and the tenements there. And it was a pretty quick bus ride into Edinburgh. It reminded me a lot of the Lower East Side of NYC. I love Leith and I hope to return someday. Thanks for the video!
See lot of Leith hasn't changed that much.., .....some of the bairns with no shoes., my Mother said they had to go to the parish., life in Leith was not easy.
This amazed me and also gave me a heart ache, to see how my people and ancestors struggled so much, went through hardships, so I and my fellow peoples can be here now. We it everything to them ♥️ and I firmly believe it's our duty to remember them and respect their legacy
That’s my granddad and my aunt Nancy at 3:50 I don't know how they got that pic for this video as it's a family album one. Probably off another site I'd posted it to.
That's awesome! I'm grateful that you remember your ancestors with high regard My family was also from this town in this time, before they went to America looking for a better life and land of their own to make a honest living. It's amazing seeing their roots

We may not know their names, but as long as we remember and pay respect to our ancestors memories, legacy, heritage and their struggles, as we should, they're not forgotten. I believe it's our duty to uphold and respect the memories of those who came before us, who fought and struggled against hardships, so we can be here now

At 4.21 minutes into this, does anyone know the name of the wee shop where it says "Houghton's" coffee? on the left in the corner beside the bridge? I used to go there with my granny for the messages even although they lived up Restalrig Road. She had lived in Lapicide (off South Fort Street and Ferry Road - long gone) before 1934. Frank Ferri would have known.
Interesting sights, and nice music too.

My auld maw grew up around the “tide” in the 30s. Some of the tails from Sherrie Brae were priceless.
Born in Leith, i still live here. It's a very different place now and not all in a good way. I preferred the old Leith.
Can anyone tell me what was £285 on that poster on the shop corner. What on earth could have cost that much around there then ?
I am with you. Born in St Andrews Street in 1954. Lived in the same tenements in the clips. Great times.
Yes a fellow scot.
@@minkgin3370 I've zoomed in as much as i can and it's an advert for (i think) boxing and football competitions with a total of £285 in prizes.
Great show thanks for pulling together

Fascinating! Thank you. I also love the music and would love to know the title and pianist, please.
I lived in Kirk Street at the foot of the walk for nearly ten years.
I lived at 44 Kirk Street when I was a kid, went to Bonnington Road Primary School the Leith Academy Secondary.
Thank you for sharing
Cracking photos
I watched this video wondering if any of those kids was my granddad, a leither born 1909.
Beautiful :-) Thank you
2.29 The girl looking out of the broken window frame fascinates me and what life brought her.
The Pilrig Muddle and the Boundary Bar at the end of the film, before my time around 1918 I would guess.
Any of the subjects known with names to faces or are they the forgotten? Love them as I love History thank you for sharing it xx

So many little ones with no shoes, hope their lives improved when older, though hardly likely given such hard times.
The sheer poverty is horrifying.
John Fergus, I felt the same.these poor folks didn't live they existed, so so sad.
Oh yes, the White privilege the left shill media likes to talk about so much. isn't it wonderful?
Beautiful
I was at school with classmates like that. They took it away and gave us, 'A better life.' 'New lamps for old..'
Thanks ! I really enjoyed this !

WILL PEOPLE WATCH OUR FILMS JUST LIKE WE WATCH THESE? WE WILL NEVER KNOW
No. Nowadays everyone is a 'photographer', it has become commonplace and mediocre.
Leith nowadays is like living in a foreign country.
What is the earliest photo of Easter Road Stadium?
Can anyone who knows Leith tell me if Portland Place is shown in any part of this video please?
Song name please? thank u before
👍❤️🙏
Braw!
Hi Libby, just for a laugh, I pressed Google translate, it said "Braw" mean terror, 😂 what do they know? It's OK a know what it means anyway,
😢😢😢
Where is it. What country
Scotland :)
Leith, Scotland
TRAMS
It looks like a miserable cold place. Like Paisley. Paisley is still shite how is Leith now?
