Omg - the colour match of the silk shirt with the green pants…it’s like they were separated at birth! And with that orange coat, it’s just perfect. The whole outfit is like it’s from one designer’s collection. Though I guess it is, essentially…from your closet collection! I’m hoping to muslin my Byrdie button up in the next few weeks and now I’ve got silk on the brain…

Right!? When I opened the package, I immediately grabbed those pants. I need to have more social engagements so I can wear this stuff out of the house! haha. A silk Byrdie has also been on my list (I really want to make another Byrdie or two this year--I wear my white linen one like crazy!).

I need to learn how to sew. I'm a guy on the shorter side, no clothes fit me perfectly. So, every time I buy new clothes, I have to go to the tailor. I much rather learn to do this myself. It's kind of funny because my grandmother use to be a tailor at Nordstroms, and she was really good at it too. She would Halloween costumes and everything for my brother and I. If she were still alive, I would ask her to teach me how to do it. I'm actually a little interested in it myself. I guess it runs in the blood. Your videos help me a lot to get me started. Thanks.

So glad the videos are helpful! It really is a helpful skill to have--even before sewing my wardrobe I was altering almost all of my clothing. Best of luck, and thanks for watching! :)

I'm with Leanne! I love seeing that you've uploaded new videos! I'm taking a moment to comment on your thoughts about the hand of wools. Especially the 'coat weight" ones. I've been sewing for a long time now, and have found it interesting that wool yardages are a lot thinner now than they were in years (decades) past. I have a few in the stash from years ago, I don't think that the weight of those compared to wools now would be very similar. And they're coatings. Just wanted to add one more thought. There is another gal (really she and her husband) on UA-cam that I so thoroughly enjoy. Her name is Andrea. She's the "DIY WIFE'. Her husband, Dean, chronicles her marvelous work on their channel. Like you, she has such a wonderful "CAN DO" spirit that I find is fun, inspiring and refreshing. I'm thinking of you doing all that block fusing (a monstrous task!!!) with simple, unassuming tools...and getting the job done. Or the episode where you reupholstered the sofa retrieved from the sidewalk. So, so cool. Especially when you didn't realize that some of the back pieces wouldn't fit until after you'd put them together. Honestly, I sat and watched you and was thinking...."uh oh....they're not going to fit when she turns the fabric right-side out". But you weren't dismayed!!!! Or, maybe you were for a bit, but that didn't stop you!!!! So cool. Same with Andrea. She makes do with the tools she has on hand...(she's into woodworking, furniture making, renos and such) makes mistakes, sighs a big sigh and turns lemons into lemonade. I just love watching young people doing marvelous things! You and she are a delight to behold!

Thank you! And that is so interesting about the weight of wools over the years! That vintage camel coat I have is definitely a much heavier weight wool (It is also fully interfaced, but the interfacing seems pretty thin and flexible at this point). Occasionally, I'll come across a thicker wool, and some are already fused with interfacing. But in general, they really do feel so light and drapey! The one i bought for the blazer is pretty light--I even considered making pants with it...but it is listed as a coating which surprised me.

Back in the 90s (when dinosaurs roamed the earth 😂) Sandra Bettzina recommended to interface your fabric and THEN cut it out as one piece. Thanks, PBS. Saves time cutting out two pattern pieces, at least.

In English you should just say "Ecotex", Oekotex is German in origin, stands for "ecological textiles".
