Making your own piping for a leather project (Classic Duffel Bag)

Hey Aaron, Aaron here, wanted to let you know of a tip I started using when I’m getting edges ready that has worked really well for me. I use a heavy duty stapler on the outside edge similar to how you sewed your first line on the outer edge. It definitely doesn’t hold completely like a stitch line does, but I’ve found it to be pretty good and very quick. When the final stitch line is done I either trim off that outside edge with the staples in it or if I need it to stay I’ll just pull them out with needle nose pliers. Just thought I’d share it with you!

Thanks for making this video! I've sewn & attached fabric piping before, but planning to use some marine vinyl to reupholster 8 dining chairs and put piping on them. I've never worked with vinyl before, but read that you can't sew it twice in the same spot, so I was curious to know how you attached the piping to the bag. Good technique! Thanks for sharing.

If I don’t have a bell skiver, would you recommend just hand skive edges of the piping leather and bag?

Why not use the pipping/welting foot when you attach it to the end piece. I just change my stitch length to a longer stitch on the first sew and then shorten up the stitch length on the 3 piece assembly.

Because I am not sewing it up close to the cord. I am sewing it way out on the edge.

Smallest cord you can find and I use a 1/4" foot

Not professionally trained, huh. You & all of us are better trained with the hands-on experience we get all the time. It seems we all remember it better for some reason.
