Don't forget to subscribe! Hope you are having a great day!
Oddly. The just ride feature isn’t available. Yesterday it was. Any ideas on why that is?
Not at all. Not sure if they made a change or maybe have a problem?
I love that this was a quick video! Thank you. So many videos drag on for 15 minutes when you only need the quick overview. This is perfect!
My pleasure and thank you! I try to always stay on point. Not always easy but do my best!
This is great to know! With the new price increase, I’ll be switching to the app and use the just ride mode. It sucks, but not worth the price increase for a single person. I really wish Peloton had a pricing subscription tier system.
Exactly! I am going to create a video talking about exactly that. Maybe Peloton will listen... 😂
@@Learnwithtravis I will be cancelling as well. $45 is just too much for me, I only use the Bike portion of the membership.
@@deidrestuber6175 Not ideal but maybe use Peloton or Stryde app to still have content but at a much better price?
I love my peleton but can't afford 45 because I'm a single user. I know households that share which I get isn't a lot of money. I watch free UA-cam rides and just watch my metrics. Maybe one day I can afford their classes again. I love the bike though. I live in a small apartment and it's so easy to pull in and out of the small area I store it.
This was my biggest question and you made it so simple. Thank you. I want the bike but I may not have the $40 every month. That’s a lot of money.
So glad the video helped! Monthly cost is now 44 so even more. Keep in mind that Peloton Digital options could still help you reach your goals doing the Peloton thing without that cost.
Leaving a comment, to thank you for not turning a 30 sec question I had into a spammy long video. MUCH APPRECIATED.
No problem and thank you. I try my best to always stay on point.
Thank you so much! The customer rep said that the screen wouldn’t work at all when I wanted to switch to the lower membership
My pleasure!
Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!!
My pleasure!
Great info. Just got my bike. As a fellow youtuber I made sure to subscribe and hit that notifications bell!
Thank you Eric. I really appreciate it as you know the work involved! Have a good one!
Thank you so much for explaining that!
You're very welcome!
welp there goes the whole experience, not worth it without the subscription. Thank you for the quick video!
Sure thing!
This is why I returned mine. Without the subscription there’s no experience so you might as well get a bike that’s half the price.
They also have sample classes option as well
Good point!
Going to cancel mine too. Especially they lower the bike price and I bought it when it was high. At least they increase the membership for new members with the new bike price not for the old members. This way they will even encourage older members to keep their membership with the older price. But all I can say. They didn’t really think in strategic way. They just want quick money to cover their lower bike sale.
Nice video!! Straight to the point
Thanks Johnny!
Thank you!
My pleasure!
Thank you very much for the information. I am tempted to buy a peloton bike since it’s on discount at Amazon now. Now I am hesitant to do so with 44/month extra cost.
My pleasure. I know that monthly cost is high but if that means it is putting the tools in front of you to reach your health goals, maybe it is worth it. It is nice because you can pause when you are not using it as much so you don't have to pay the fee. Hope that helps and best of lucking finding the right product for you!
Can you watch Netflix, UA-cam web access without subscription? What about scenic rides?
It has been a while since I tested but I don’t believe you can do any of that as designed.
What a rip off. Overpriced hardware and forced to pay an overpriced membership fee. Usually is one or the other. Peleton is redefining corporate greed. Never been a fan of owning a treadmill but if I was in the market, I would buy a decent one that does not charge a subscription. I am sure you can find a quality tread for the fraction of the cost.
Yeah I’ll pay subscription when the treadmill is free! 😂 how absolutely insane
How do I change the resistance without the subscription?
Can you connect to a Polar heart monitor and dislay heart rate without a subscription?
would love to know if this works, only paid for 1 month to activate my used bike it expires soon
Is it frowned up to discuss the ability to access web browser and install other apps on Peleton? Would presume this to be useful info especially if one ceases to pay/use the Peleton subscription service at any point in time.
I don't think Peloton is a huge fan of it but I really don't know. I have heard of plenty of people doing it. Personally, I don't know what it does to Peloton warranty\support so I don't want to talk about it and potentially put people in a bad spot with Peloton.
Can you still connect HR monitor to it during a just ride (after cancelation)?
Yeah. So the menu that has things like WIFI, Casting, and Bluetooth is still available from that ride screen.
Very helpful!
Thank you!
It sucks that they limit you soo much without the membership. They wonder why they arnt selling as many bikes as other companies now.. it’s pathetic that you get a grey screen with a couple numbers. I took my screen off and out a small tv there. Now I watch UA-cam free lessons and have never been happier.
I have been doing the same lately. Just watching UA-cam while I ride. I get it.
Great channel! Lots of talk about pausing subscription. I hope you address this content someday. For instance, how long can you pause? Can you pause annually?
Thanks Daniel! I will try to get more details but I think you can pause for 3 months or so at a time. But once you get closer to that ending you can extend if you want. Not 100 sure, but I think it works close to that.
From the website it looks like you can pause 1, 2 or for 3 months.
thanks for this! But I'm very curious, how did you record the peloton screen?
Glad to help. I casted from my Peloton, to a Roku, had a capture device capturing Roku output, and that device sending to my laptop which allowed me to record the video.
LearnWithTravis brilliant. Do you know if this allows you to record sound too?
Can I access UA-cam without the subscription?
No, Peloton is not available via the Peloton.
They definitely need to make the subscription much much more affordable. The bike cost enough as is. And they should atleast allow music videos or basic gaming with no updates atleast.
I look forward to creating a video some day called “Tonal finally fixed my only concern!”. 😀
Great videos, thank you. Will the metrics still show even if I buy the app membership? I’m considering buying a 2nd hand Peloton bike, and possibly the app so I can watch classes on an iPad?
Thank you! Well, I believe if you get a second Peloton, you can put your existing membership on it and use it. The only catch is you can't use both bikes at the same time. Maybe check with them incase I am wrong, but I think that is an option.
We cancelled our membership it was a bit much especially since you can get the same content for 12 Vs 45.
If you are okay with losing some functionality it can save you a nice hunk of money!
This was super helpful thank you! I thought the $40 was mandatory with the bike.
Glad to hear it was helpful! Thanks Karina!
When I investigated a few years ago they said it was mandatory for the first year. You had to pay the 1 year subscription up front. After the first year you were free to cancel. Not sure if that policy changed. I’m thinking of getting one again.
@@glennthomas4159 I believe just the first month is mandatory
A little vague but - support.onepeloton.com/hc/en-us/articles/203822009-Peloton-Purchase-and-Membership-Terms
@@karinanazario862 My info is about 4 years old from a visit to the Peloton store in Austin. Good to know things changed.
Do you know if you lose the Apple Watch connectivity function with the bike + when you canx your peloton subscription
Sorry, I don’t know that one for sure.
What happens if you pay for the app - can you see that on your Peloton bike screen?
No, you would need to use a different device to do that.
Can you do the same video with IFIT just ride for Nordictrack S22i?
Let me look into that but I can probably make that happen.
It looks like you have gen one. Do you know if you can connect your Apple Watch to gen to for the stats?
Yeah, people have work arounds to make it work. I also have a video on a device that makes this work. The Plus works as it is built in.
since there is a £12.99 digital version if you use that will it show on the screen.
if you take it spending 40 a month is a lot of money for some people it is only really worth it if there is more than 1 person using it
Can the monitor be used to airplay from other device such as iPhone?
I don’t believe so. They lock that type of functionality out unfortunately.
Travis. I've been watching a lot of your videos thinking about getting a bike. My main desires are to be able to access rides through spots around the world, maybe the tour de France, but also have access to judt chill and ride while watching UA-cam and Netflix. Is there a bike that will work for me?
Yes, the Stryde. You can load iFit on it and do their instruction led scenic rides. You can also watch UA-cam, load Netlfix, and other streaming services. It allows you to put the resistance and cadence in the corner of the screen.
UA-cam: ua-cam.com/video/DIN_WWCmFCI/v-deo.html
Stryde Bike: www.strydebike.com/the-bike?aff=12
Hi Travis! Do you have a video on how you ride with a friend on the Peloton?
Hello! Sorry, I don't have a video on that. (Actually, have never done that) Next time I am on the Peloton I will try to play with it though.
It’s cool
A small FaceTime like video in the corner and your stats next to each other on the leaderboard
Does the just ride have any time limit?
I’m about to buy a refurbished peloton bike but I don’t intend to pay for the All Access subscription every month as once in a while intend to use it with other services like RPM from Les Mills.
So I technically could have the just ride screen up on my bike (to see only the metrics) and start a class on my iPad by subscribing as an app user. And just lose the leaderboard by only having the app. 🤷🏽♀️
You could do that to save on the monthly fee at times! If you have not purchased the bike and don't think you would use the full Peloton experience, I would look into other bikes and save some money...
Can you cancel the $45 subscription and subscribe for the $12 monthly one and use that on the bike?
No, not on the bike itself. You could use a tablet instead of the Peloton screen. Not idea but if you need to bring down the monthly cost, you could do that.
Thank you! Stupid question but this would work on the treadmill as well?
I don't have the Tread so I can't speak first hand but I think they are designed and work the same from a subscription standpoint.
What about the sample class option?
Just tested and I should have put that in the video. Looks like it pops up 4 classes you can take so you can still do a small set of studio rides.
Is it worth worth to get peloton tread without subscription? I just want to buy tread for running, don’t really need subscription.
I have never used the Tread, but I would say no. The reason it costs so much is because of the Peloton experience. if you have no plans to use that, I think their are probably other options that would save you money but remain high quality.
I got my bike+ 3 years ago I think. I go through periods where I use it a lot but most of the time I'm too lazy to get on. my stupid butt kept paying the subscription even when I didn't use it for 6+ months at a time. 😬😮💨😒 Do they keep your history after you cancel if you resubscribe later?
Sure do. Just pause and then start up again when you are ready. Will work like you were always there but with more money in your pocket. :)
Thanks for the video. If I have a bike, and cancel the subscription, can one technically convert to the Peleton digital app and still use the bike?
My pleasure. You would not be able to access "Peloton Digital" on the Peloton screen. What you could do is put Peloton Digital on your Apple\Android device and use that but use the "Just Ride" mode I showed to still know your cadence
esistance.
@@Learnwithtravis Your profile on the Bike vs the Digital app arent connected correct? So if you cancel and used just ride for a while, then resubscribed, the rides you did while canceled wont be tracked. Correct? Hopefully that made sense.
This might be a dumb question but can you use the Peloton digital app subscription with the bike instead of the Peloton membership subscription? Does the bike save your metrics when you are not suing the membership subscription?
I supposed you could do the just ride on the Peloton and then use a tablet with with Peloton Digital and get the Peloton Digital experience instead of actual Peloton. This could be a nice way to save money during months you don't ride the Peloton very much. If you do not have the Peloton and are thinking of using it like this, I would suggest getting the Stryde as that would be a much better Peloton Digital solution.
That’s a shame. I just need a new bike and looking around many places like Best Buy etc… are sourcing their bike sales out to terrible 3rd party organizations who don’t offer an option to pay a technician to put it together and guarantee their work. Peleton looks like. Sturdy brand but I rather pay for the bike with no monitor and slap on my own pedometer. Rather than pay for a tacked on LED screen.
There are quite a few bikes out there that do not have monitors but are quality options. Hope you find the right one for you!
Hey man I love your videos. I am about to buy the peloton. What is your reference code. So we both can get the 100 dollar credit?
Appreciate it Brett and thanks for checking into get my code. Here you go! HE7PHW
No problem. I appreciate how much time you put into your videos.
Do I need any Additional info for your refer code? I don’t see where I can put it towards my bike when I check out. I might have to call customer service to give them the code.
@@brettleecubbage When you look at your cart, in red, I believe it says "enter promo code". I believe that is where you enter it.
I will have to call. It says it. The coupon is not applicable. It’s all caps.
Yeah that’s one great reason to never cancel.
Yeah, a Peloton is not really a Peloton without the subscription. I could see pausing if you are not using it much. Say during the summer when you are exercising outside.
Wow, thank you…what a joke, i’ll spend my money with another company that isn’t so greedy. I’m about to purchase an exercise bike, treadmill, and other equipment but it certainly will not be with them
Most companies that offer a service (Connected Fitness) are like this if you stop paying. I understand that, but also wish they left a little more to it when you are unable to pay the membership.
Are your rides stored/tracked still and accessible when you rejoin?
Yeah. When I came back my ride history and info was still there like I never left.
What about the “just ride”s you did while not subscribed ? Were those there?
I want a peloton bike for cardio at home but $39 just seems to much . That being said I’m at the gym 4 days a week and I go on jogs. Maybe here and there I’ll pay the $39 a month , but is it worth getting on just to use for ride and cardio without the membership?
The reason you pay a high price for the Peloton is so you can do Peloton content. For your situation, looking into the Stryde bike might be a good option. This will save you money but give you the flexibility to choose your content. You can do Peloton Digital for 13 a month, Stryde content to mix it up, iFit if you want, and streaming services plus UA-cam when you want to save money.
Interesting...so you could cancel your peloton membership but subscribe to the digital-membership and just ride along on your tablet or tv but still get all your stats from the bike...🤔
Yes, you could. But if you plan to go that route, I would probably recommend Stryde or other Peloton digital options to save some money.
With the digital subscription being cheaper. Is it not possible to just cancel the 49 one with the bike , then start a digital subscription, so saving that way ?. I have a peloton and the 49 monthly and now that lockdown is over I’m back at gym but would like to have cheaper subscription?
Sorry, no. This is an option for non-Peloton bikes.
@@Learnwithtravis ah ok , so the digital version has no bike , I guess ? . So for bike only option is the 49 one.
@@twigwonderkid Peloton is meant to be paired with non-Peloton bikes. This way you can still get the Peloton experience even if you do not have or want a peloton. It also helps to get into a Peloton like experience at a lower cost. Popular bikes for doing this are Sunny Health & Fitness, Schwinn IC4, and Stryde.
@@Learnwithtravis I have a Peloton bike. I used to go to the gym after work each day and do a small bit of strength, a spin class and then a short swim in the pool. But with lockdown and having to work from home I was doing occasional walk and as kitchen is close just eating, so I bought the bike. I totally love it and found your site that helped me quickly get up to speed, and was cycling every day. Lockdown is now over and I’m back to the gym. Hence looking to maybe suspending or moving to digital version as now paying gym membership and peloton. Hence why I was looking at perhaps moving to digital. But think I might just suspend or cancel now
Ahhh, that makes sense. If you pause you can still see the numbers. So, you could do a base workout or do peloton digital from a tablet if you are only doing rides here and there. Thanks for the kind words!
After how long after buying the bike can you cancel the peloton app ?
Honestly, not sure. I would ask Peloton on that.
Do you lose your power zone bar?
I am not 100 percent sure on that but I think so...
Hello Travis,
I just canceled my subscription now the only think I see is Welcome to Peloton "Downloading update".
The Downloading says 💯.
But, nothing happens. Please advise. Thanks.
I would reach out to Peloton support for that.
Does the blue dot still count? Lol
Membership is so expensive. Can't afford it anymore. Just cancel my membership.
Sorry to hear that. I am thinking about creating a "Use your Peloton bike with Peloton Digital" video.
I didn’t know this I thought you just couldn’t even use it haha
Glad you know now! 😀
When you’ve finished the ride does it give you a run down of the ride like it does when you’ve finished with subscription? Was thinking of cancelling, taking a pic of stats after a ride and uploading to Strava or would it still upload to strava?
Sorry! I cannot remember exactly what it does in that situation.
Same question re: Strava. But also, will it still download your workout to the peloton app. Or does everything disappear? I only do scenic rides and my own thing for a while now. Trying to justify buying a tonal… and since I use the bike far more than the subscription…I do like the tracking and how I can go back and see rides I did from 2018.
So it doesn’t upload to Strava you will have to do it manually and it also doesn’t save to the Peloton app. It does give you a summary of your ride when you’ve finished so I basically take a pic of that and input a manual ride on strava.
Ok thanks!
Are you still able to access the web browser?
No, only the Peloton UI as shipped.
Lmao so u can’t do anything else with that beautiful big screen ? UA-cam ? Other apps damn what a way to lock their system . Any recommendations on what the best bike without a screen would be ???
I have not tested it yet but one often talked about is the Keiser M3i.
We ended up upgrading to the Keiser m3i after having issues with a cheaper bike (left Schwinn IC4 pedal, noises.) The Keiser cost was similar to the cheaper peloton but the quality is excellent, very sleek minimalist design with smaller footprint, totally quiet (huge plus!), has pedal option for regular sneakers (though we use the spin shoes, our guests may not), love the higher easier access to control for adding resistance. Works great with Peloton app and our tablet or TV. The Keiser delivery and company responsiveness has been excellent, much more timely than Schwinn. It is also commercial grade so anticipating excellent long term performance. Have had it for three months and would highly recommend. We did strongly consider the new Peloton but did not get as the higher monthly app subscription and usefulness of screen if subscription was cancelled were negatives. We have three family members who have Peloton bikes with app, and two friends with Keiser bikes with app only, and everyone is totally happy with their choices! I do love the peloton app, but our tablet or tv allows other options while spinning.
Sweet. So if I cancel the subscription, I can't access the handy "..." > "about" > *tap bottom right corner 10 times* feature so I can use other apps like netflix on the treadmill.
Man, who would have thought that a $5,000 treadmill with a 32" TV would restrict you from not being able to watch what you want unless you paid them. And THAT'S IF YOU'RE TECH SAVVY AND INSTALL THEM VIA A LAPTOP AND EVEN THEN, IT'S ONLY LIMITED TO VERY SPECIFIC APPS.
What a fucking joke. (Not to mention the 32" tv's video quality is bloody awful). Sigh.
This is bull shit. When you pay 3k for the equipments, they couldn’t give you some default record video to go with it? Say 10 video. Is that too much to ask. If you buy from this company you support greedy business.
Did you really cancel Peloton? For good?
I have the original Peloton and Bike+. I am selling my original Peloton so I decided to record the subscribed vs unsubscribed experience to hopefully help others. I am not going anywhere! 😀
I’m considering doing the same. How much did you sell the original for?
Well, this was back when wait times were forever and the price to buy new was a lot more. Peloton just lowered the price of the original Peloton so I am sure the used market has changed. Facebook marketplace is a great place to sell and get an idea of what people are asking.
Yeah. My gf and I were laughing that as soon as I was talking about selling…”if I can get $1500, I’d do it” Peloton “buy the original new for $1495!”
“$#@&!”
Lol🤣🤷🏻♂️
I get that it’s your job to have and review the new version of things, but would you recommend selling the original for the bike+? I’m more curious about the bike quality. Is resistance smoother and output calibrated more accurately?
Mmmm I think this thing can be hacked easily and can work offline.
I doubt it. Everything is in the cloud meaning you need to pull stuff from Peloton resources. It is not a matter of "Unlocking the bike". You need access to their systems.
@@Learnwithtravis mmm ok
You cant open developer mode to open a browser without a monthly subscription?
Dont buy this crap. Tell pelaton to piss off by buying a better product
What a rip off !!
Assuming also if you resubscribe you lose all of your history, so it will be like starting all over again as a new subscriber.
I will try to test that but I don't think so. You still have a profile and that profile is not removed. You just don't have an active subscription to Peloton so they hide functionality. When you resume, I believe it picks back up. They also have options to pause instead of cancel. For example, you are outside during the summer and don't want to pay the subscription but are coming back in the fall.
Boycott Gestapo Pelaton!
