After performing this set of drills about 20-30 times in the last year, here is my comprehensive review of it:
1. This is the single best set of drills I have ever taken so far - I don't do this much of drills that are a joke
2. The side-to-sides may seem too easy or boring, but they are what improved my technique the most I think - always have something in mind when you do them, for example watching the ball or preparing the racket properly
3. Straight drives improve best if you try to hit just behind the service box
4. You can completely learn fig. of 8-s with this routine
5. Doing 50 of each does not only help your technique but helps you concentrate better
6. The side-to-side volleys at the end of the routine never stuck with me, I didn't get much out of it and I just left it out completely after a while from my drills
7. It is worth rewatching this video a few times after you did the routine, there are very useful guidelines which you may not catch at first

Thank you for your detailed review and its honesty. Too many people feel the repeated alternate drills are simply "fillers" but they are in fact the core and heart of each routine.
The volley side-to-sides can take a while to feel comfortable, but they are an exercise whose benefit is more abstract than most. Obviously, it's a shot you would never play in a real match, but the skill required to time the ball well, helps judge shots off the back wall. However, all that is pointless if the drill isn't enjoyable. I would encourage you to replace it with any drill that allows you to work on your touch AND cool down slowly after the previous beast session.

I did this routine the first time today, took me about 50mins as I never practiced figure of 8s and the like before and I had to get used to the technique, but all in all I can say this was fantastic. It was a good workout and I could see the gradual improvements as I got from set to set. I will definitely do this a lot more in the near future!

@@BetterSquash I struggled with the deep volleys on my backhand which is consistent with my struggles returning serves on that side. Otherwise it was great and I can already feel my length getting better
That's not unusual. Lots of amateurs don't practice the deep volley. Glad to hear you feel it's helping already. How long did it take you, BTW?
Hello Coach, great content as always. I'm not sure if it is intentional, but the video solo practice is not the same as the awesome poster you made! In the poster you start with front volleys in the second set, and that is followed by 50 long drives (and you say 25 in the vid). Just a small detail, thanks a bunch, I will work on my beast mode routine!

Coach - as always amazing content, I will definitely try this when our courts reopen in a few weeks (end of semester at the uni and they close for a bit for maintenance cleaning etc). My only question is: what is the shot you are doing up front into the corner on both sides at 3:25? since it is sped up I cannot tell very well - are you alternating forehand back hand just like with the triangle?

Sorry to hear you have to wait a week to try it. Yes, I am alternating between forehand and backhand. It's too late now, but I wish I had just edited the individual shots instead of speeding up the sequence. I'll do it that way for future routines.
Nice video, coach! I’ll give this a run in my next solo. One question, just curious, on your comment about concentrating on dropping the racquet head on your drives (I noticed you mentioned this in another video also) - is this something you’ve added to your technique recently, or something you’ve always done but are just now deciding to emphasise it for some reason?
Glad you like it. With regard to dropping my racket head, no, it's not something new I've added, just something that I felt would be helpful for people to focus on.

What ball are u playing? Double dot? I don’t understand how to make it bounce at the backwall/glass
Double yellow dot. Without knowing anything about you, it's difficult for me to guide you. That said, try using a red dot and not hitting it too hard. If you can't do it with a red dot, it's probably your swing that is limiting you.
Do you think any pro's are NOT able to do for example 50 straight volley drives without any fails?
I have no doubt that all pros would easily be able to do 50 straight volley drives. Well, most at least. It depends on how strict you were.
Do you actually still play League?
Short answer: No
Longer answer: I have played 6 competitive matches in the last 25 years. I have only recently started back on court after having my second hip replaced. As long as I can make videos, I will be happy, but eventually, I'd love to be able to play length-only games and even run some squash clinics, but I don't know if that will be possible.
