    The Intel Core i7-9700k was Intel's second generation of Coffee Lake CPUs, and like the first generation, brought a core count bump! However, given that specs have changed, and we've lost hyperthreading- how does the 9700k perform in gaming and production in early 2021?
    If you're actually reading the description and you're reading this- thanks for watching! Also 'bababooey'.
    Building a Budget PC can be tough. Not only are GPUs and CPUs so incredibly expensive, but they can be hard to find on a budget... But, there are tips and tricks to finding you your dream Budget GPU, and pairing it with a CPU that will give you the performance you want!
    Have a Great Day!

    Still have my 9700k for 2,5 years and its still a great CPU. I came from a 4790k at the time, and the difference was absolutely noticeable. I was thinking of perhaps upgrading to the 9900k for the extra 16 threads for production work instead of buying the new Alder Lake chipset by the end of the year. I am gaming on 1440p with a RTX 3080, so I dont think the 9700k will be a bottleneck for that.

      I have the same setup, I refuse to upgrade until the gaming world actually uses more than 10gb VRAM and 8c/8threads at 1440p. You could spend soooo much on a top tier CPU/motherboard and upgrade to a 3090, but with today’s games, you would only gain 15% performance MAX. Although I do like to play multiple games at once some times, and the extra horses would be nice (; hahaha cheers

      What cooler do you use for this cpu? I've the same one with a watercooler I bought from a friend that already used it. It has now come to a time where in games that use so much of the cpu like Warzone it gets hot.. Like 80C. I aknowledge that my case is bad and I'm looking for a better one right now. But I'd like to change to an air cooler. Looked into thr Noctua nh-d15 but its too big for my case

      Bloodyzbub, may I ask what cooler do you use? And what’s your case??
      I’ve been going crazy with my cpu’s temperature. Even changed to a watercooler recommended by a friend, still, with games with cpu high usage the temp gets crazy, and I’ve had to change the wc’s fan speed to some high nevels. Part of it, I think it is from my case, I think it has a really poor airflow and I’m trying to find a new and better one, since I don’t have any window close to my setup too. But, I still think with the right case I can get some nice temps with the wc I have. But I’d like to know what coolers people have been using for this cpu, so if I need to change at least I have a options. Thanks.

    I am still using it. Mid range GPU gains very little from upgrades to the CPU and it's a waste of money that could have been better spent on a gpu. AMD 1600af is r5 3600 -200MHz (afaik) and that chip is 2 years newer and and a lot slower than a 9700 with 8core 8 thread. It's somewhat on par (but faster at times) with 3700X that was a pricey chip ( I payed ~250 for 9700 2 years before 3700X came out at ~250). I don't care much for productivity but whenever I fired up Premiere, worked like a charm. Rendering, accelerated by the GPU.

    SAdly, I got screwed out of 2 years savings. I bought a pre built from a guy, that was new in an opened box. I had suspected GPU had been ripped out, and it was, it had a 3080 in it from Asus, but he said he had put a 2080 in it, when booted, it showed me it had an 2080, out of excitement for finding a deal, i was like sold, so i got it.
    After getting home and setting things up and resetting windows, booted it, all of the sudden it said a 1070....
    I was in shock, in disbelief, so i pulled the side panel off. Sure as hell, a 1070. At least it was an MSI. I can't afford a new card now, probably not for a long time, and by the time I can, the ones out now will be so dated Ill be on same boat. Sucks man.
    PS, this computers PSU also tried to kill me in my sleep by a leaking capacitor and throwing sparks, smoke and a crazy noise. I fell asleep watching YT, I was awoke to what sounded like hot water on a hot frying pan. Then I realize my TV is off, I then see the smoke plume gushing from every orifice of my newly aquired dream machine that was already lacking the card I had thought I had. I rush over, yank the power.
    Call Asus, they agree to replace it for me, the PSU that is, everything else was fine thankfully.
    I send it off. Get's lost in the mail. Had to put a EVGA 600w Bronze in it.....
    Ok, enough ranting.

    I'm considering upgrade to a 5800x or finding a 9900k on sale/second hand.
    1.) Since both new consoles are 8/16, I figure maybe better to get out of 8/8 one year too early rather than one year too late to retain some resell value. Also, 3 years of warranty on the z390 MB are about to end😂
    2.) 9700k does started to run into some frame rate diving issues for me in newer console oriented games like Farcry 5, RDR2 and AC(not "average frame rate")...It doesn't matter how the game "should've been" optimized, but if a engine do try pull form more than 8 threads , it will likely give you shuttering issues if you don't have it.
    3.) We have no idea how much would Zen4/Alder Lake CPU and MB would cost post pandemic inflation and the first two years of DDR 5 pricing(first year of ddr4 was rough...). Even if the Zen4/Alder Lake platform cost less than one may anticipated, that would also means their mid-low end offer would also be good therefore hurting the resell value of your 9700k system.
    So if you do have the money and itchy for a upgrade, and don't mind reselling your current parts. Upgrading when you can find a good deal(on both end) may not be the worst idea right now --- Since mostly people do still believe 8 thread is still enough(including me, for most games.).

    • @igorrafael7429
      @igorrafael7429 3 роки тому +1

      not just that but raytracing titles are also demanding on the cpu side... 8 threads is not enough in some instances and the guy here didnt mention those... for old games or 99% of current games is just fine. But cyberpunk 2077, battlefield (when rtx is on) FC, AD, RDR2 as you've mentioned are only a few examples...

    I've been running the 9700k since launch as I didn't want to pay the overinflated launch price of the 9900k here in canada and I wanted to replace my good old 3770k and was focusing on high refresh rate gaming. I've been running the chip oced to 5GHZ with no avx offset at 1.30vcore on a Noctua cooler with a 32gb 3600mhz kit and an RTX 2080 and this setup has been great for high refresh rate gaming and some workstation use.
    I feel like this chip really shines when overclocked to 5 or 5.1ghz depending on how lucky you get with the silicon lottery and how beefy your cooling is.
    Also good video but I noticed you were saying in your charts the 9700k was running on 4.9ghz all core (oc or mce) and in the gameplay capture it was running at 4.6 all core (stock). Were your numbers at 4.6 or 4.9?

      In my bios everything was set to 49 as the Clock Multipliers for Cores 0-7. I noticed that as well, and I’m not sure why I didn’t mention it in the video, however all games were tested with the same BIOS settings! DDR4 was also a 3200MHz CL16 kit, however on Intel platforms memory speeds aren’t as crucial as on Ryzen.
      Edit: I just realized I that may have been a Turbo multiplier for all cores!

    I find hyperthreading to have issues with a lot of tasks. Some games run worse with it on. I use VMware workstation with mine and I'm finding that I have to turn it off on my i9 9900k a lot more than I'd like. To the point I never turn it on anymore. In the few instances it helps, it's not that much. Often times I see absolutely no difference on vs off. I have a second workstation with the 9700k in it and I feels identical to the 9900k with ht enabled. Ht makes it run hotter as well. You aren't missing all that much. Export times really helped but most of the time when exporting video, I get up and make coffee and do other stuff. I'm done what I'm suppose to do. Exporting video is the tall end and you can queue up video renders, go to bed, and the render time simply didn't matter to me.

      Yep, I agree. I'd wager it's mostly due to the way developers utilize it, not the technology itself. But it goes both ways. For example, in the new Last of Us Part 1 PC port, there are 100-500 ms freezes before big cutscenes on all CPU's without hyper threading. This is obviously due to the mistake of the developers, but still.

    The 1st gen Core i7s (8xx) that fell under the more consumer oriented LGA 1156 Lynnfield were all HT quad cores. They only came a year later than their Bloomfield (LGA 1366) counterparts.
    All of the Bloomfield (i7-920 through 965, LGA 1366) CPUs were HT quad core as well, including the 920.

It is not slow, I just think it is a Ryzen 5 3600/3600X competitor at best and one that lacks PCIE4 and is way too power hungry. It is very good for gaming, but that just is not enough.

    I’ve struggling with high temperature specially in games that has a high cpu usage, not sure if it’s only from my case/tower (I feel like its airflow is really poor) or if my watercooler is not enough. I’ve been thinking about a Kolink Observatory or a Kolink Horizon, both of them are pretty, they seem to have nice space for more fans, gpu and radiators. Still need to identify if it has a good airflow. Anyone know if one of these have a good airflow, or knows a cheap and nice one with a good airflow?

      @@ProceuTech I have a pretty cheap one. The water cooler master liquid ML120L from Cooler Master. Thought it would make it. (I know, im so noob at computers). Looking for a new cooler that can fit at least the Kolink Observatory that seems to be a nice case. i use my computer mostly for gaming. Warzone is one of the games that takes most cpu usage, and I take 85/90c. That’s too much. Needed to stop playing. I wanted an aircooler found the noctua d15, but has 165mm height and the kolink observatory has a limit for 160mm. Also I’d to understand, can I fit a cooler that has height of 160mm in a case with limit of 160mm, or do I need a lower one and make count of the mobo and cpu? I don’t understand if the height limit in the case for coolers they include the mobo height or if they do not. Pretty confusing lol hope you can help me. Going crazy, spent so much money and I can’t play. Don’t know nobody who could help me…

    Will the i7 9700F be good with a rtx 3070 TI at 1080p gaming ultra? or would the bottleneck be big? I have been looking and can't really find the answer from anyone. right now, I have a 2060 super and 600W PS

      So I currently have a 3070 ti with an i7-11700k. The 3070ti bottlenecks the 11700k, and from my experience it should actually be a nice pairing! Might run into some issues in a few years, but in the here and now it would be a baller combination!

    i would like to ask a question: recently i have been thinking of upgrading from a 16gb drr3 i7-3770 to a 32gb drr4 i9 9700k for gaming. I have heard that apparently the i7 9700k does not include hyperthreading which apparently is a BIG DEAL. Does the i7 9700k still give a better performance boost than the i7-8700k even with that limitation??

    • @ProceuTech
      @ProceuTech  3 роки тому +4

      Surprisingly, the 9700k is actually a performance improvement over the 8700k! The 2 extra cores allow for greater parallelization. Imagine the 9700k as being an 8 person team as opposed to a 6 person team. The 8 people have a greater overall potential than 6, even with performance tricks like SMT!

    • @krislambert6625

      just look at some 9700k vs 9900k videos and you will see that the 9700k is usually the winner with higher frames! strange i know! thats the reason i went with the 9700k last december

    • @rushnerd
      @rushnerd 2 роки тому +1

      As weird as it seems, intel bogarting the 8 extra threads does next to nothing for gaming performance.
      These days though it does make it look a bit silly though.

    • @ProceuTech
      @ProceuTech  3 роки тому +1

      Depends on what your primary goal is! The Ryzen 7 is way cheaper and offers twice the threads which helps In productivity! The 9700k is a better gaming cpu however

    • @effies671
      @effies671 3 роки тому

      I would go with a 2700x if you can find a better deal on it. Unless you are playing above 144hz, I doubt 2700x will give your problem in most game if you have a good GPU(Non strategy). But 8 threads may start giving shuttering issues with newer games that was optimized for 16 threads.

      Cyberpunk and msfs, to name two. Msfs is sad because (with an rtx 3080) you can pretty easily hit stable 60fps in hardcore cities/ airports as long as you are using a basic aeroplane. As soon as you use a pmdg (for example), it’s almost irrelevant what you ask the gpu to do, your frame rate is 99% cpu limited.
