Best Motorcycle Helmet of 2023? - AGV Pista GP RR vs Arai Corsair-X vs Shoei X-Fifteen

  • You need a new motorcycle helmet, but you want something from the top of the range. Which should you get?
It all depends on what you want to do.
The all new Shoei X-Fifteen is my new favorite track helmet for 2023. Visually, it looks similar to the X-14 but with enough changes. I like how they went to the new visor design, with the closure in the middle. It feels more secure. Overall, the new visor locking system is amazing and a great safety feature at the track.
The new Shoei X-15 has improved line of sight and ventilation. These are actually two marked improvements that really transform this helmet. The field of view in the tuck is so much better compared to the the X-14. It vents much more air, to where I now prefer it over the Corsair-X at the track.
To me, the Arai Corsair-X is the ultimate road/track helmet. It vents the most air and it’s the most comfortable. The Corsair-X is not as stable at high speed as the Shoei or AGV out of the box. You need to purchase the additional spoiler if your plan on doing track days. I’m not saying that you can’t do a track do without the spoiler with that helmet. I had done plenty with a Corsair-X before the spoiler came to market. But the stability isn’t the same without the spoiler, hence why the MotoGP/WSBK guys have been wearing the spoiler for a bit now (even before it came to public). So, once you have tasted that stability, you can’t not have it. On the road it is not needed, you can adjust the wing in th back for downforce.
But the Arai shines in all-day comfort, field of view, and the amount of air it lets through. The Corsair-X has the most versatility of the three helmets. This is the one I’ll usually pick for the road.
The AGV Pista GP RR is an Italian beauty. Fickle, annoying to live with at times, but freaking gorgeous.
The Pista GP RR is a track helmet, period. The vents are fixed, they only have removable rubber/silicone pieces to close them. The visor is either open or closed, it doesn’t stay slightly ajar to let in more air.
This helmet is all about comprising for the pursuit of speed. It’s very lightweight and extremely stable at high speeds. If you don’t need the creature comforts afforded on the other helmets, and just want the best-looking helmet, the AGV is for you.
Always measure your head and then use the manufacturer’s size guide when buying. Try on multiple helmets from multiple brands. Find your fit, then you find the style.
    As always, stay fresh.

Been riding all my life and had used almost all the major brands but shied away from Arai simply because of cost. But over the past few years have been getting better helmets. Last one was the AGV full carbon modular. Great helmet but uncomfortable even after break-in. Had the Shoei Marquez and that was decent. Just got the Arai Corsair-X Nicky Hayden Laguna and I LOVE IT! It is the most comfortable fitting helmet I have ever worn (45+ years of riding) out of the box. Also as you correctly stated, it vents like a monster! Much better venting than anything else I have worn. Thanks for the review and agree with all your points.

sounds like you have a rounder head. I have to wear japan market arai to get comfortable. I can’t even stuff my head in an AGV.

I have the exactly same 3 helmets with the exception of the Arai being an old RX-7, to be honest, the X15 is the best out of the 3. AGV looks the best but is the most unfriendly to use out of the bunch. Arai and Shoei are both equally super comfortable. If I only could pick one. Shoei X15 hands down.

How did you take off the x15 sticker in the back? Did you use heat gun or product? Thanks for sharing

Just use a steamer, doesn’t damage anything. Heat gun could easily damage the helmet and I don’t like using a hair dryer because you burn your fingers. My secret is the steamer. Let me know if it works for you.

The lock you put it down to lock so the helmet visor doesnt come off. If you see the red tab sticking out thats stopping the visor coming out.

I've worn AGV K3, Xlite X802, Scorpion Exo R1 Air and the Arai Rx7x. So far the Arai is the favorite and got that overall good features. So sold the others and left with the Arai. Just bought X15, have been hearing good reviews about it, so let me see how it compares to the Arai... been dreaming of the Pista GP, but its too expensive from where i'm from... appreciate your video..

@CountGreffi so having worn the x15 for few months now (on trackdays and weekend rides), it does give a better vision when you're tuck in your bike looking up on the road, but it does not gives you a good view on the side checking for blind spot, I think arai is better in the side view of the visor. Ventilation wise, arai is better. I think the shoei is quieter. It does feels bulky than the arai. I love them both, however I have soft spot for the arai.. Will depend on my mood on what to where and for what kind of ride I guess.. I am getting the pista gp soon which I bought used.. so will be interesting to see how that one feels..

    • @fahrolfadhlijaafar5474
      @fahrolfadhlijaafar5474 4 місяці тому

@@MonsieurGuyI've worn both during trackdays and weekend rides.. both are good. Personally I prefer the arai because its smaller and feels like the helmets is one with your helmet. The shoei is a bit bulky, so I feel a bit odd and kinda feels like the shell is oversized (I wore a correct size btw)..
However, I've ridden the arai for long tours (like whole day) and I get headaches, possibly due to it being fit on the head.. I didn't get this with the shoei, which is interesting, and i did my shoei helmet fitting before purchasing it.. so kinda depends what you wanna use it for.. I love both of them, and will wear depend on the mood.. both looks great..

My brother bought a corsair x and he gets a 50% discount for them. I've been on an rf1200 for 4 years and I absolutely love it fit wise. Scared to switch to Arai but I might still spend the extra on the x15

    • @CountGreffi

That RF-1200 sounds like it is getting to the point of needing replacement, if you go by the Shoei recommendations. Can always get a RF-1400 if you wanna save some money. But Arai is a great brand, nothing to be scared of. However, the X-Fifteen is an amazing helmet also.

@@CountGreffi Yeah I'll ditch the rf1200 at the end of next season. The only worry I have with Arai is fitment only because the shoei fits so well. I'm overreacting and sure it's fine but it's just one of those things

Arai corsair x is a track helmet actually. If you want something more suitable for the street from the arai brand there is some othe models that fit better for that purpose for example contour x, quantum x or signet x for name a few.

    • @CountGreffi
