    @BeachChickThe I can rationalize siding with the templars it in my head but it still doesn’t feel like the right thing to do. I’m convinced that most of the mages turn to blood magic because they feel like they have no other choice and not because they’re evil, look at Evelina for example.

      It makes sense since Orsino becomes that monster and shares with us the fact he knew about Quentin and did nothing about it. Siding with the mages doesn’t make too much sense to me tbh, he just does a complete 180 when you side with him.

    I can understand how some people would want to join the templars after seeing all the horrible stuff the blood mages do, especially after what happened to Leandra, but as someone who's played both DAO and DA2 as a mage, I could never do it.

      My Hawkes (Mages included) side with the Templars more out of self-interest than because of what the Blood Mages do. Hawke is a refugee who reclaimed their heritage and worked their way up into a position of comfort, power and influence over the course of a lot of hard work after spending most of their life beforehand in poverty and/or hiding. They have friends, a home and a life of well earned status in Kirkwall, and siding with the Mages sets them back to square-one, being a refugee, a criminal, a runaway, and (potentially) an apostate who has nothing but whatever they managed to carry with them and (potentially) the company of a sibling and a romantic partner. A worse position than they started off in during the Prologue.
      Things aren't the same if Hawke sides with the Templars, but he/she gets to stay in Kirkwall with consolidated power as the Viscount (a position that he/she fully deserves), and, avoids being a refugee again. There's also The Fenris Effect. If Hawke has spent the past seven years hanging out with him and listening to his seemingly valid arguments that mages in power just leads to blood magic and corruption and all of the awfulness that's Tevinter (at least in Fenris' experience of it), and that Templars are the only way to prevent the rise of a Second Mage Imperium in Southern Thedas..... it seems rational.

      @@MrJordwalk That's the beauty of RPGs: we each play our own version of the main character. How about DAI? Who did your Inquisitor side with? If you don't mind me asking, of course.

      See, I thought that myself until I actually sided with templars on one of my playthroughs. Funnily enough the reasoning wasn't "blood mages did the horrible stuff to my mom". I also romanced Merill and by that my Hawke gave well-sounded reasoning
      So my Hawke at the Last Straw chose templars because of couple of reasons. First of all Meredith clearly lost it. She would purge innocent mages no matter what my Hawke would say to her. As a consequence bloodshed is unavoidable and citizens would be caught in between no matter what. My Hawke sided with Meredith to minimize casualties of her madness
      That being said no matter what side you choose there always would be abominations and demons. It's very predictable because Hawke had already known that many mages would summon demons at a dire situation. Even if you side with mages many of mages still would become abominations or summon demons, in the city with innocent people no less. And while with mages my Hawke would have to defend these mages from templars as his main concern, the Hawke who sided with templars could easily concentrate on saving citizens of Kirkwall from abominations, blood mages and demons and maintain the order
      Also note the fact that regardless of Anders' intent, the people of Kirkwall loved the Chantry and especially the Grand Cleric. When magic destroys them both, the people were going to rise up and kill everyone in that tower regardless. And knowing mages they(mages) would defend themselves from citizens killing them(citizens) in the process. As such, siding with the Templars is the only way of preserving some modicum of order within the city. This is what my Hawke said to Merrill in-game and I like this explanation
      There is also a high possibility that if the mages in Kirkwall succeed, the Chantry would arrange an Exalted March on Kirkwall(Iirc Leliana outright said so in Sebastian's quest). So yeah my Hawke also put down the mages to avoid the possibility of Exalted March on the city and its citizens.
      Besides it's not like you're killing all the mages. With Hawke's support Cullen(who argues with Meredith every second about how this annulment is wrong) can override Meredith's commands and can save innocent loyal mages who come to templars for surrender. Meredith's face during that scene is priceless lol
      So the thing is that you still can save some mages by siding with templars
      Also there are reasons like "preserving your own ass" and "becoming a Viscount" as well

    @Jeadan Samson First Carver survives if you are a mage character and bethany dies. 2.) At the deep roads part If you bring Carver and dont bring anders he dies. If you bring anders Carver becomes a grey warden. If you leave carver behind he becomes a templar when you return from the deep roads.

    Having played Awakening and then DAII, I was surprised that Anders was different. I was sure that eventually he would develop. That that side of him would surface and we'd be able to find a way to separate him from Justice but that never happened. Instead he went off the deep end, he didn't even deny what he did, Didn't even look like he had any regrets (Haven't tried rivalry path with him). What's more surprising is that I thought Carver will remain the annoying whiny little brother but when I did everything to win his approval, he redeemed himself, if even only for the few final moments I see him.

    Ever since Leandra was killed Sebastians way of thinking was all I thought about. "Anyone who has magic deserves death" and at the time I was romancing Merrill. I told her off big time and she was sad.

      -K A S T let me guess, the group of mercenaries on Frostback Mountain heading towards the Dwarves or your friend Jowan from the Mage Origin? Jowan is just scared to me. I would rather die than be Tranquil, the actual Blood Mages you fight though are OP but when I played as a Blood Mage, I can see why but they're so corruptable. Never used the friendly fire magic, just the puppet and restrain magic, which is MASSIVE.

    • @MatrixMiles17
      @MatrixMiles17 6 років тому

      -K A S T Uldred then? Morrigan is an Apostate, technically not a Blood Mage but I can see why people hate her. Both in Origins and Inquisition she worms her way to get what she wants from an Old God Soul with her son to voices in her head with the Well of Sorrows. If you hate HER I can see why, she's a manipulator.

    • @FarkasAbel91
      @FarkasAbel91 3 роки тому +3

      In my opinion, if the templars hadn't shouted blood mage every time they saw an apostate, chasing shadows, it would've been easier to track down the murderer before he killed Leandra. That distraction was optimal for him. Also, if Carver/Bethany just stayed at home on their backsides instead of trying to get out of the shadow of their brother.

      @@FarkasAbel91 my old account got terminated, comments stayed up. I'm MatrixMiles17. Anyways it actually would've helped but with the Necromancer hiding a cave underneath a factory and staying hidden for 5 years straight from even his would be student it's a lot harder than it sounds because despite being completely unhinged he really fucking smart. The only reason he was discovered in fact was 1 of 2 reasons (depending on your route). 1st Is following Leandra's blood trail. 2nd Is Blood vs Blood, use Blood Magic to track him.

    If I side with the templars with Merrill she says "I'm...I'm sure it's for the best." What causes the "I suppose whether we succeed or fail doesn't really matter" line?

    @BeachChickThe Or he might just hate the blood magic and malificarum. And having seen what happens in the Circle; all mages turning to blood magic he might simply want to side with the templars to put an end to those evil practices. I almost always side with the mages but this conflict is not at all black & white. Both sides have their reasons. And I think it’s not too hard to justify mage Hawke siding with the templars.

    @BeachChickThe Oh I didn’t know about this tear in the Veil near Kirkwall. That could explain a lot indeed. I know which Sandal lines you’re talking about, they’re ominous! I think they’ve something to do with DA3 or maybe they’re just there for the WTF factor :D I always meant to ask, why do you look at Let’s plays instead of playing? Playing is so much fun so I never understood Let’s plays popularity :)

    FluffyNinjaLlama and Rebecca Hamilton HOW DO I MAKE ANDERS SIDE WITH THE TEMPLARS? I ALREADY DID ALL QUESTS OF ANDERS AND I EVEN GOT HIS MAX RIVALRY AS WELL SOUNDS LIKE ILL HAVE TO TRY AGAIN

  • @FluffyNinjaLlama
    @FluffyNinjaLlama  12 років тому +1

    All you need is max rivalry with him, and then you’ll be able to convince him to fight with the templars, like in here: /watch?v=OVGglkUM9rU But be careful, because it breaks romance. Also, this was enabled in patch 1.03, and it won’t work in games started before installing it, so you’ll need a new playthrough if that’s your case.

    @BeachChickThe Oh.. that sucks! I had that too, a while back and it was awful. My PC broke down and I stayed only with my laptop which was completely unfit for playing and I had no money for a gaming PC and I only had an old PS2. I guess now I understand why you’re looking at Let’s plays. I’m not sure I would, I’d probably just wait and play games I missed once I bought the PC but I understand anyway he he

    @BeachChickThe I know you didn’t play The Witcher 2 but there’s similar thing there; after act 1 you need to pick a side: scoia'tael or Roche, and even though Roche is a great guy siding with him feels like I’m doing smth against my convictions because I truly support scoia'tael and their fight for freedom.

    I played as a female Hawke(Malaynasia) and sided with the templars so that Carver will be happy for his sister and not treat his sister as his rival. He is such a headache during the first Act. Now I'm playing as a red-haired rogue Hawke(Emryst) and send Bethany to the circle and I will side with the mages this time.
