If you really want RPCS3 to shine, run it from a RAMDISK, it makes a night & day difference, the latency rivals real hardware, especially if you own a Ryzen X3D CPU, it completely changes the experience, same goes for Dolphin, Xenia, CEMU, Citra & PPSSPP, having shaders on a RAMDISK just seems to elevate the whole thing to another level. Some emulators now even let you fully cache an ISO into main system RAM, like PPSSPP, large RAM amounts is becoming vital to good emulation of later gen consoles.
That’s 201 level shenanigans haha. I’ll get to it eventually :) basically this series is “how to start” and once I’ve run all those it’ll go to advanced stuff
Does it get rid of shader compilation stutter? That's always my biggest issue emulating anything newer than PS2. The only thing that made CEMU playable for me was that people posted full shader caches for games for it. Otherwise shader cache compilation kills emulation for me when it comes to stuff like Yuzu for example.
I love that you're doing this series. 🤘🏻 Aside from the obvious usuals, I'd like to see some of the harder to setup and/or choose an emulator from, like the FM-Towns, PC-98, Amiga and 3DO.
I’ll hit them all by the time it’s done. Mainstream first then moving to deep cuts. I’m gonna do a few Mac specific ones too for the Mac users where the setup is diff
It really improves a lot of games when running at 4k. Ridge Racer 7 (of course) is my favourite game to run. The Tekken games look amazing, too. Gran Turismo 5...
@@VideoGameEsoterica The only thing stopping me playing through RR7 is I lost access to my PS3 controller when my PC updated. RPCS3 doesn't recognise it. I bought a generic, replacement controller but it's not very good.
I recommend to turn on Clear cache auto 512 MB, Silence All Logs(some logs can become 10-20gb just after 20-30 min) and disable Show PPU comp, Show shader comp
I've been thinking of finally getting around to setting up RPCS3 on my main rig, so this tutorial is a nice and welcome surprise! Might as well finally try to play Yakuza Dead Souls in nice upscaled resolution and performance!
@VideoGameEsoterica A Yakuza zombie game IS a pretty stupidly hilarious concept to think about. But then again, so is a Yakuza pirate game, and yet we're getting one of THOSE very soon. Maybe they should consider re-releasing Dead Souls on PC if that pirate game does well? 😆
The PS3 library also has a fair bit of 2D games that don't need a powerful PC to emulate, I like using my laptop for stuff like the Super Robot Wars games. It's also awesome that there's patches to make games like the Motorstorm series run at higher framerates
If anyone hasn't played ICO & Shadows of the Colossus HD on PS3 yet, they are 100% playable on this emulator now, and let me tell you, they look super crispy on an OLED or CRT monitor @ 1440p+, you also have Thexder Neo, another PS3 exclusive, also recommend Toy Home, a spiritual sequel to the DC's Toy Commander, Lair, a Factor 5 game that is criminally underrated and in the top 10 best PS3 games OAT (just make sure to use Lair 1.1 version with the proper game controls), just to get you started on the PS3 library.
I have an old PS3 slim collecting dust with no real games (it was just for blu rays well over 10 years ago) and thought about going through the PS3HEN homebrew process to play games on it now, but using RPCS3 seems easier to manage
I know you said this series is for Windows, but I think that it should be pointed out that most emulators have native Linux versions. I think the only one that doesn't is the Xbox 360 emulator, Xenia. On Linux, Xenia runs through Wine or Proton.
I’ll have some videos on Linux emus / Mac emus in the future. Stating it’s just for windows is so people don’t ask for troubleshooting help on other OS’s
As much as saying this will make me turn into dust and blow away in the wind, PS3 is pretty much a retro console. Once a console is old enough that there are adults that remember playing it in their early childhood then it starts to move from previous gen to retro.
The compiling PPU modules and such was taking more than an hour and I was thinking WTF I'm running an i5-12400F, then realized I had Handbrake open still encoding a bunch of -pr0n- legally obtained movies to HEVC.
Jealous of MAC users, they get the beautiful OpenEmu, hands down the prettiest emu GUI there is, and so simple to use even for newbies. It's like an official product tbh, love the game artwork, and small touches like bordered CRT style windows complete with screen curves, the gamepad setups are so easy and have a nice gamepad graphic for each controller type and system, and the audio quality is great given MAC audio drivers & HQ DAC's, I'd love to build an OpenEmu AIO system with an EMac (CRT AIO MAC computer), combined with Apple Arcade, which is one of the best modern 4:3 game platforms.
Been playing some lighter games with it lately like Katamari and the old God of War games. Runs and looks like a dream. Wish i could get Killzone 2 and 3 up but i think that needs a *really* beefy PC and i only have a Ryzen 5 5600x and a rtx 3060ti.
I'm sad I got my i5-12400F after Intel started fusing off AVX-512 in their 12th gen consumer cpus, which makes an enormous difference in some games on RPCS3.
Not a fan of emulating PS3 or later system due to high storage space requirement for each games (often 10GB or more). Even the old PS2 games require 2GB or more per game on many. So much downloading for bootlegging...
@@VideoGameEsoterica IMHO by far the best kart racing game ever by a long shot in terms of gameplay, visuals, sound and music. I bought the xbox360 version which I am now playing on a 360, because the game is not supported on the series x.

I have a 256 gb of ram and run entire games off of ram disk and emulators.. some shit doesn't run tho . Especially some anti cheats
Hold on isnt ramdisk gonna disapear after the pc turn off and need to start copying file again before use it ?

That plane wouldn’t get too far
@VideoGameEsoterica to the 90s at least?

Yakuza can be anything and I love it for that
I hope that some day installing DLCs in both RPCS3 and Xenia would be easier - sometimes it's a gamble, mostly a hassle...

No I agree. If it’s old enough to drive and vote it’s retro. PS3 launched in 2006. It’s 18
The compiling PPU modules and such was taking more than an hour and I was thinking WTF I'm running an i5-12400F, then realized I had Handbrake open still encoding a bunch of -pr0n- legally obtained movies to HEVC.

That’s fair. It’s not for everyone
years ago I wouldn't have dreamed of keeping a PS2 backup around, but with modern compression and current drive sizes, it's not so insane now.
Play off original disc. We don't pirate here.
I will wait till I can get new AMD cpus with new AVX instructions to better ps3 emulation
It really does make a diff
Is this really good for :
Neptunia
Project Diva
Yakuza ?
😅
Yakuza yes. Haven’t tried the others
@VideoGameEsoterica Thanks! 😄
👍
Might as well just play the native PC versions of the Yakuza games other than Dead Souls and Kenzan.
Do you know if its possible to use a Dual Shock 2 on PC with the Reflex Adapt? Not for RPSCS3 just in general.
Yep. Check the reflex adapt page too. It’s got a google doc list of testing
@@VideoGameEsoterica Is there another software I have to install? When I tried I couldnt get it working.
Whenever I try to open the rpcs3.exe I get an error message saying the application was unable to start correctly(0xc0000142). Do you have any ideas?
That’s a memory address so I’d say delete it and start over. That’s not a common error
@@VideoGameEsoterica I've tried it a lot of times but I always get the same exact message.
I’m honestly not sure at all. That’s a vague error and it’s just pointing to a memory address so I’d literally be guessing
