so many youtube tech reviewers do camera comparisons between the new flagship phones with only auto shots. But, once you start playing around with manual settings, you realize how much more potential the note 9 really has.
Possibly because most not all but most just shoot in auto mode & its showing what the software can do, people will always od a better job using manual settings though
Still limited to 5 minutes max on 4K at a time. No 24fps which is mandatory and log or flat profiles are needed. I’ve done editing of videos from an s8 and note 9 and even with good “pro” settings video warp, bad audio, and a haze on the video just destroys most footage.
Thanks for the details setting information and now it will help to shoot better videos using my phone. Most of the time we end up buying high-end phones but we are not able to use it professionally.
I've had a note 9 for 2 years and never knew about these options! I have a few questions now, as I'm trying to learn how to edit a video taken on the camera. 1. What is the little thing your holding at 2:28? 2. How did you get the "color settings" to show up in a line like that? (3:40) 3. Where do I find the setting to change the camera I'm using, wide angle or other? 4. How did you get the micro SD card slot to open? I see the tiny pin hole but can't get it to open. Oh, this is like a new can of worms for me... I see I have an empty SD card in the box it came in, but thought I was told this phone didn't have an SD card?? hmmm... Please help!! Thank you! note 9 experience: majority of camera apps dont work well with android/Samsung. these apps dont have access to native camera features. what they do is screen record your camera and then process that as video. your note 9 has a great camera and the other apps dont have the ability to use it because the amount of android software vs brands ratio. 2. For those who updated to latest PIE there is an app called Cinima FV-5 (PRO) that let's you use your video to full advantages like shown here. Even up to 4k/uhd
Good video, i was hoping you would cover how to get video on manual focus. I have issues with the video losing focus on me. Someone said to put it in manual focus, but my manual focus on video is grayed out. Any thoughts?
By saying greyed do you mean washed out? I've just seen that happen on my Note 9. Adjusting the Shutter Speed should show a proper image. 1/50 completely washed out, 1/3000 and I get full detail upto the fence but immediate vicinity starts to darken.
If u meant the option itself to focus manually is disabled, apparently the new os update to One UI 2.1 brings back Video Recording using Pro Mode. I'm currently installing the system update.
While in camera mode, as it is appeared in your video is different than the one that looks in my galaxy note 9. I mean the setting button and all looks different in most of the not 9 youtube video, plz explain. Thank you
Now that you can 't use pro mode for video and note 9, if you want free reign of your camera, download the 'open camera' app and it will do the trick. In the settings of this app, you can select 24fps to get a true cinematic look.
I liked your intro a lot. I always skip the annoying theme music and intro screen most channels have. Yours was actually relevant to the video. Subbed.
You do an unusually great job with music on this video-- maybe for all your videos. But THANK YOU for breaking the copycat annoying template of practically every youtuber with substantial subscriber counts: 5 second TEASE, followed by super-shitty intro music and unnecessary branding graphics, followed by "WHAT'S UP UA-cam, I'm so and so, blah blah let's jump right into it... You, on the other hand forego with shitty intro branding music and underlay the same chill and non-annoying music running the entirety of the video. This keeps a smooth flow& tone. Almost nobody else does this. So again thank you.
I own Note 8 and still stay on Oreo firmware when somehow read someone’s post in 4pda that pro video mode disappeared with an update. Probably voice control would be a solution, but think it’s too rough to use.
thank you for your video on using note 9 camera. I shot a video in full ratio, i tried to edit it in pinnacle studio, and i have problems with video and audio going slow and not like what i shot. can you help me in playing the video as captured with camera in editing
Some great tips, I had never considered the 30fps looking more natural, I was just filming everything in 4k 60fps because I figured why not use the max settings and shrink later if needed. It occurs to me now that a lower shutter speed could add a little but of natural motion blur that looks more fluid.
Are there any apps that you recommend for editing with the note 9 even if they aren't free? I am looking for one that can connect, trim, and rearrange clips while still being able to add sound, text, and different speeds?
Now when I record video from my phone it plays with words backwards I never messed with the settings how can I put it back. This problem can be seen in my latest few uploads the soaps and my Arizona tea words appears backwards.
Got very useful info here, and i appreciate it. Still haven´t learned to unleash the full potential of my Note 9, but it´s about time. Tried these settings today, but still things to learn. My Note seems to go Exploding Nova bright instead of what you get, and my pro, has two pro settings for video it seems.
So is this video only for the perfect scenario? Because what if you do not have perfect lighting? Would it affect the video with the setting you're suggesting?
Any tips for eliminating focus hunting? I have turned off the auto focus and facial recognition features and try to zet a focus point but I still get hunting during filming from a stationary tripod
My experience using Filmic Pro with Samsung has not been good. For some reason the footage does not seem to look as crisp and the focus is slower. I didn't have these issues with IPhone but from what Filmic said was Samsung doesn't offer the same support due to wanting people to use the native Camera on the phone. Kind of a shame because of all the controls you have with Filmic.
I found this to be true on my galaxy s9 plus also with Filmic Pro. The camera app with Lightroom looks awful compared to the Samsung camera app as well.

Jack. Great info. What did you use to shoot this specific video? The lighting and settings are spot on for the type of videos I would like to shoot. Appreciate your knowledge. Thanks.
Jack, my galaxy note 9 interrupts videos at 38 minutes 43 seconds and then immediately starts recording again. this creates two videos that I have to splice together instead of the one video I need. Is the capacity truly only 38 minutes and 43 seconds or is there a way to change the settings to make it possible to record 75-90 minutes?
