Lindros was the next Gretzky in most people’s eyes. He was the next evolution of an NHL player. He was big, heavy, could skate, could score goals etc. He was the prototypical power forward of his era. Too bad he got rocked a couple times and concussions shortened his career.
@Atheos B. Sapien I was as well and it was insane the press it got especially for hockey. There was no other player that I can remember that was hyped more, less Gretzky of course.
The Flyers made of the greatest runs to the Final when they did so in 2010 bruv because THEY WERE LAST in the East at Christmas 2009. Their series against the Bruins in the 2nd Round IS A CLASSIC. The Flyers were down 3-0 in the series, but they didn't only fight back to force a Game 7.... THEY WERE DOWN 3-0 IN THAT GAME and battled back to win it 4-3.

@@kabirconsiders Another thing you need to know about that 1974 Game 7 was when people kind of lost respect for that Rangers team for not standing up for their teammate and it basically gave the Flyers more confidence to destroy their manhood.
Lindros is like a Top 5 all time power forward. He fell off in his later years but when he was good, he was a wrecking ball. I’d still take Peter Forsberg over him though.
I have met Lindros before. Even today as a retired increasingly out of shape guy, he is HUGE. He’s 6’5 and his weight at his peak career was 240lbs and was a freight train because he could skate like someone that was 5’10. However when he talks it is very very clear that when he is in his 60s or 70s he will go out sort of how Mohammed Ali went out. Sad for the concussions.
The thing is, Marian Gaborik (the other guy they were talking about taking the shot for the Rangers), at least when he was in Minnesota, he was a great goal scorer in regular play but wasn't particularly good at penalty shots/shootouts. I don't know if he eventually got better with New York, but I remember that being a thing during his Minnesota days. But, if he hadn't improved by that time, that could be why they went with Jokinen.
During the mid 90s Eric Lindros and his two wing mates were three better than 6'2" and 230+ lbs bruisers, who could skate and score, they were known as the "Legion of Doom" and for three years they made life hell in the East conference.
No, yes was the correct word in that statement. The GM for Quebec wouldn't indeed take yes for an answer because he traded Eric Lindros to the Rangers and the Flyers. The Flyers got Lindros after a battle. People always thought that Lindros didn't want to play in Quebec because he hated the French people of Quebec. A few years ago, Lindros stated in an interview that he wouldn't play in Quebec because the GM for Quebec Marcel Aubut propositioned Eric's mother. Lindros was never against the French people. In fact, he is married to French-speaking woman from Quebec.
The Flyers are my team, I've been watching them since I was about 6. I'm 34 now and out of the many rivalries that they have, the Rangers rivalry is the best and it's not even close. Lindros was a world class talent, despite what some may choose to believe. Had it not been for a career full of injuries, there is no saying what his numbers would like. Lindros never played a complete season, in 03 he played 81, but before that his closest was 72. His numbers were still remarkable. He was only 34 when he retired, so his career was definitely cut short. It's a shame he never won a cup, but the Flyers always seemed to be missing that one link, if it wasn't goaltending that was the problem it was defense. As for that winter classic, Flyers would've won that game had they just ignored shitty Mike Rupps antics.
