Hello Kabir, I've been waiting with anticipation for this rivalry to come around, being from St.Louis born and raised. I started attending hockey games at the Checkerdome in 1988 when I finally got my first car at the age of 18, and the first year that the great Brett Hull first started. The Checkerdome would be pulsating from the roar of the crowd and the slamming of the boards and the fists of the rival players, the rivalry between teams and brothers made hockey not only a game but way of life for St.Louis Blues fans, and the next 10 years would be some of the most memorable games in history for myself and many minus the Only time we ever finally won the Stanley Cup. So much more to go into about the history of the players, playoffs, and Home of the Blues to get into in a comment section, for adoring fans. Really enjoy your reactions and the different content on your channel. Keep it coming and thumbs 👍up from me my friend. PEACE ✌☮

This rivalry is real and in 2019 i can Proudly say my Blues won the Stanley Cup and Chicago has been horrible (Leagues worst ) since the Blues beat them in a game 7 in 2016. We destroyed the Chicago Blackhawks!
YOU MUST react to the 1991 NHL ALL Star Game National Anthem at the Chicago Stadium. Game was almost cancelled due to Desert Storm kicking off days before but they went on with it and the fans made the anthem a one in a million experience! Brett Hull describes the anthem in this video but it must be seen to be believed.
The St. Louis Arena, known as the Checkerdome during the years that Ralston-Purina, Inc. owned both the Blues & the venue (1977-1983). Called the "Old Barn" by many fans, it was a decrepi old place (built in 1929) that the Blues finally left in 1994 for the new, ultra-modern Kiel Center (now the Enterprise Center). The Arena was finally demolished in 1999. I attened many events at the old Arena, from concerts (Rush, ZZ Top) to wrestling matches (Hogan vs Flair in 1993) & roller derby (Midwest Pioneers vs Los Angeles Thunderbirds in 1973).
There was an expansion draft, but it was very much tilted toward the original 6, so they didn't lose most of their regulars. The expansion sides needed several years to catch up. Plus, the Blues lost those three finals to Montreal and Boston teams that are still among the greatest hockey teams ever. Those teams were LOADED with hall of famers and iconic stars. As for the old Arena in St. Louis and Chicago Stadium, those were the loudest building in the NHL by a fair margin. Both those old barns were replaced in the mid-90's. The news ones are nice, but they just don't have the same atmosphere. I practically grew up in the Arena, so many crazy memories from that place. As for the Blues, the made the playoffs like 25 years straight and were almost always one of the best teams in the league, but somehow, some way just never got the job done in the playoffs until they won the Cup in 2019. You should definitely check out the "St. Louis Blues | Road to the Stanley Cup 2019" video. It was a long time coming and the whole city went crazy with emotion. Oh, and Detroit were never the Hawks' biggest rival. It has always been the Blues for them, and vice versa.
I'm a Blues fan and their success of making the playoffs have always been the most frustrating thing. It would be one thing if the teams were just bad because that's easier to live with. They've played 400 games in the playoffs, something only the Original Six match, and only missed the playoffs 11 times in their 53 year history. It's maddening to see them make the playoffs every year only to be bounced quickly.
@@chaost4544 Very true and repeatedly heartwrenching. And they have had about every type of unceremonious playoff exit in the book. A COVID outbreak in the team right before the playoffs. Playing better, but the opposing goalie stands on his head. Playing crap as the favorite. Getting screwed by the refs. An airtight game 7 that could have easily gone either way. Having an untimely injury or two (or five). Winning by sweep in the first round and then having to sit on ice for a week to wait for the next opponent, who stays in rhythm. Winning an emotional grinder of a series where they leave it all on the ice and then being flat the next round. Getting run over by a hot team on their own way to the Cup. Basically every heartbreak imaginable. I never believed they were cursed, but it would have been easy to feel that way. Only a handful of teams have been better in the regular season overall, but they always seemed to find a way to blow it or have wretched bad luck in the playoffs. By the way, they've actually missed the playoffs nine times in 53 years.
@@mokumboi19 haha I suck at math. My earliest heartbreak of this franchise was a childhood memory is the 1996 playoffs where I was left crying because one of the best GM's in hockey scored from a position an AHL goalie could make a save at. Also... Steve Yzerman will go in the HOF as a GM some day. Dude is damn good at his job.
@@chaost4544 Yeah, and the Blues hit like three posts in that double overtime. Shayne Corson hit it twice. The Blues had so many great chances to win that game 7.
@@mokumboi19 you seem to be really knowledgeable about Blues history so I assume you follow the team. I know it's early in the year but the 2021/2022 Blues seems to the be the fastest Blues team I've seen in a long, long time. They're a really well put together team this year.
There’s another NHL Rivals video for the entire Original Six. I highly recommend it, as well as the Chicago Blackhawks vs Detroit Red Wings NHL Rivals video.
Have to love this. I am from St. Louis and remember and probably saw most of all of this video as it happened. Thank you for doing this and please check out Al Macinnis. If you go back the loss to the Boston Bruins in the beginning of our history is what made the victory of the Bruins in the finals of 2019 made it such a special event for the city.
Blues vs Blackhawks is STILL intense, especially since the most recent conference & division realignment which put them back in the same division (Central) together. The Blues finally won the Stanley Cup in the 2018-19 season. The downtown parade in St. Louis was memorable. While the Blues vs Blackhawks is extremely intense, the Cardinals vs Cubs in baseball is the opposite, to a degree, and MUCH older. The Cardinals vs Cubs goes back to 1892, when the then St. Louis Browms joined the National League. That rivalry is actually even older, dating back to the 1880's when Chicago of the National League met St. Louis of the American Association in the 19th century version of the World Series three times. The Cubs lead the rivalry 1,253 wins to 1,196 with 18 draws. My Mom and her sister grew up Cardinals fans, and raised my brothers & our cousins to be Cardinals fans also. However, my cousin Joyce married a Cubs fan and became one herself. I simply refer to her as " the Traitor" now, lol. When St. Louis City SC begins playing in MLS in 2023, I expect an immediate rivalry with Chicago Fire FC...continuing the St. Louis-Chicago rivalry into another sport.
Keep up with the rivalry topic Kabir! There are two particularly intense rivalries you're missing: Calgary Flames vs Edmonton Oilers, and, the absolute worst rivalry in North American sports... Quebec Nordiques vs Montreal Canadiens. Both are all-Canadian and within the same province. The latter is known to have pitted friends, divided families, schoolyards, and took on a major political dimension as this rivalry took place during a period of constitutional crisis in Quebec with 2 independence referendums
I hail from a family of Leafs fans, that married a boston freak, who had me...the Detroit fan? My uncle is a similar black sheep, as he's a Blackhawks fan.
So the way to playoffs worked in the expansion era at the start was that the original 6 teams were in one division and all 6 expansion teams were in the other. The original 6 teams were well established and had been playing together for several years and the expansion 6 were a mix of players from the original 6 and some rag tag players that wouldn’t be in the league in the original 6 so there was a development and skill advantage for the O6 teams. When the playoffs started up until the cup final, the original 6 teams would play eachother and the expansion 6 would play eachother making it guaranteed that the final would be an O6 vs E6 teams. The Blues made it for the first few years and got completely blasted each time and it wasn’t until the mid 70s Flyers where the gap closed.
Great Vid Kabir about Hawks and Blues. Anyways Timbers clinch the 4th spot last night 3-1 at RSL could have been 4 or 5. But Blanco was unbelievable he easily could had have another goal and assist he had 2 goals Niezgoda got so unlucky that hit the post but ya this rivalry between these two can get nasty between the Blues and Hawks. It's not the best rivalry but it's really good
First cup for Blues was 2019, right after Washington in 2018, then 2020/2021 for Tampa Bay The age of the underdogs. Didn’t even care if Washington won the cup (as a fan), beating Pittsburgh was my cup. The fact that we took their cup from them was enough for me....(they went back to back 2016/2017) That was Capitals fans cup right there. I recommend you check out Pittsburgh/Capitals rivalry. Long may the reign of the underdogs continue ❤️
@@chaost4544 I agree. But the last 5 cup winners have been ‘chokers’ and i honestly love that the underdogs have the last 5 cups. Lightning are mostly known for blowing 4 game leads then losing in game 7. Who saw Blues beating Bruins?. Definitely not Bruins fans. They were calling for a sweep from game 1 in that series. Who saw Washington beating a team in the second round that’s been kicking their ass in the second round for years?. Certainly not me, as a Caps fan. I honestly expected to wake up to a notification ‘Penguins top Capitals in game 6, series goes to 7’ (which honestly I think they’d have lost and it would have been the same old Washington/Pittsburgh story)
They did have a notable playoff battle in 15-16. St. Louis had a 3-1 series lead against Chicago, but the series went to a Game 7, a game that will go down in Blues lore. The Blues did eventually win a Stanley Cup in the 18-19 season.
9:52 oh you have no idea. His on the ice and off the ice antics are kind of crazy but could always back it up. He's currently 4th all time in goals scored though Ovi will pass him up this season. I also think he got a lot of hate from Chicago because his father played for the Blackhawks.
Current day NHL is 100% much softer than back in the day, but mostly in the name of player safety and the finesse and level of play have also increased greatly
Boss, the seats at the checker dome were far steeper than any in Rome. The feet of the row behind you were shoulder level to a grown man sitting down. If I remember it was between 8 and 12 stairs from one level to the next yet you couldn't set drinks on the floor in front of your seat because there wasn't room
1) The term "Original Six" is a bit of a misnomer. The NHL was founded in 1917, and between then and 1942 there were 9 other teams which existed at some point. Most went bankrupt during the Great Depression. In the years 1942-1967 there were just the "original six" teams, which is not much of a league. The owners then make today's seem like saints. The league was run as a small club; for instance, the owner of Detroit, James Norris, in the 1940s simultaneously owned Chicago's arena, was the majority shareholder of New York, and was the principal creditor of Boston, who had borrowed money from Norris to stay in business (why not a bank?). The video says the only reason St. Louis got a team was that the crazy Wirtz family which owned the Chicago Blackhawks in 1967 also owned the unprofitable arena in St. Louis. The Blackhawks collected 97% of the concession profits. Imagine going to your home team's game and all the money you spend at the arena goes to your archrival? Crazy. 2) In the old days before the big money of TV, pro sports teams were often owned by the guy who owned the arena. He was concerned with keeping the arena in business. Nowadays a team is typically owned by a multibillionaire for whom it is an extension of his ego, and the team or the city might own the arena. 3) In the late '80s and early '90s the city of Boston very slowly made plans to replace the old Boston Garden, built in the 1920s. There was endless talk of how you can't tear it down, think of all the history that was made there, et cetera. I was a passionate fan and fully agreed. Then I attended a game for the first time and changed my mind. Those old arenas were awful in many ways--obstructed view seats, seats built for smaller humans, no air conditioning, dangerously narrow hallways that were fire traps, insufficient and disgusting restrooms, and so on. They seemed far more charming on TV than in person. 4) There are 2 kinds of drafts--the yearly amateur draft of 18-year-olds and an expansion draft. The yearly draft was first held in 1963. Prior to that, teams could sign players as young as 14 and had exclusive rights to players within 50 miles, which gave an advantage to the 2 Canadian teams and Detroit, located on the Canadian border. Coincidentally, those 3 teams won every Stanley Cup from 1942 to 1967 except for one--Chicago in 1961. The expansion drafts of the 1960s-1990s were unfair to the new teams. The existing teams were allowed to exempt so many players that the new teams would be mediocre or more likely terrible for years. The 2 recent expansion drafts of 2017 and 2021 were different. The existing teams were allowed to exempt fewer players, but they were well-compensated for this inconvenience--the owners were paid $500 million by the new Vegas Golden Knights and $650 million by the new Seattle Kraken! 5) The guy at 9:50 talking about loving to play on the visiting team in Chicago is Hall-of-Famer Brett Hull. His father Bobby Hull, also in the Hall of Fame, played for Chicago for 15 years. And yes, Brett Hull is quite a character, and not always in a charming way. 6) You might have noticed in that video from the '80s and '90s that few players wore a shield over their eyes, and at least player wore no helmet, which means he joined the league prior to 1979. 7) I wouldn't say today's NHL is "softer." The competition is still fierce, there's the occasional fight, guys play when they're injured. But it has gotten less "stupid." The equipment offers better protection, hits to the head are illegal, concussion symptoms mean you can't play, players who can only fight are nearly extinct, there are no more fights involving all 40 guys on the 2 teams. Eventually full face shields will be mandatory, and everyone will bitch and moan for a while, even though they all wore them for years as kids. 8) At 17:24, the siblings you were talking about were the 6 Sutter brothers who played in the NHL. Now 3 sons have played and 2 more have been drafted. 9) "Crazy Eddie" Belfour is in the Hall of Fame and has the 5th most wins all-time as a goalie. He did win the Stanley Cup 6 years after his meltdown in 1993. 10) Chicago got good enough to win the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013, and 2015 by being awful under their former crazy owner. In the years 1998-2008 they missed the playoffs 9 out of 10 seasons and consequently got very high draft picks. St. Louis, prior to winning the Cup in 2019, were one of those teams that was usually good but not great, and would lose to an elite team. 11) Jonathan Toews (pronounced "Taves") is still the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks. He and the rest of the players from the 2010 Blackhawks championship team are currently being fiercely criticized because at least one of them bullied (using the homophobic f-word) a former minor league player named Kyle Beach after he reported being sexually assaulted by an assistant coach, and apparently no one stopped the bullying. Two or three retired players have acknowledged they knew of the sexual assault, but no current player will say a word. It's an ugly story that might have reached the UK.
I will admit as a Predators fan and many times in the post season Nashville and Chicago has had some epic series but Chicago probably has the best sweater (jersey) in all of the NHL, I hope since the leagues are changing the logos and names out of respect for native Americans that this doesn't change
Chicago has a number of rivalries as intense as the Blues one, for instance the Bruins, Red Wings, and Stars. This video is a bit dated now, since a serious scandal within the Blackhawks organization, and the collapse of the Blackhawks team since the third Stanley Cup. One thing hasn't changed--the noise and the intensity inside the now United Center when with the roar during the National Anthem and the loud singing of "Chelsea Dagger" as a Blackhawk goal is scored.
Eddie the Eagle 🦅 Belfour did win the Cup with the Stars in 1999. He's an Icon in NHL I wouldn't be shocked if Price gets him close in wins if Carey stays healthy.
6:17 That's the problem: The draft, with or without lottery, won't help them. They were FAR too good to get high draft picks because they made it to the Stanley Cup Finals, meaning there's no way they would pick in the top 15. Levelling the playing field only applies to team that didn't even make the playoffs.
The Blackhawks won 3 titles in the span of 6 seasons. 2010, 2013, and 2015. My Kings prevented them from repeating, however, winning in 2012 and 2014 ;)
I would say the current NHL is not softer. The main difference is there are usually 20 people who can actually play suiting up instead of having 3 enforcer goons who can barely skate out there. The game moves a million times faster as well. Guys are way bigger and way stronger. There's certainly less fighting, but there's 10 great athletes skating out there at 100 mph and shooting way harder than before
16:36 It's the other way around. Pure Enforcers don't work in the current NHL. Everyone is getting too fast and skillful, even the pure brutes (Chara is big, but I never consider him to be one) have to have some skating and offensive ability to survive.
See, I've been telling you to watch the st Patty's day massacre video between these two teams... and Brett Hull (stl legend) is the son of Blackhawk legend Bobby Hull...
awesome video i have been a blackhawks fan all my life never had love for the blues yea they got the one stanley cup but i hope they never get another one in ten life times we will be back on top soon bet on that you should check the blackhawks game 6 wins 2010 2013 2015 so cool 2010 and 2013 best games you will ever see!!!!!!
You need to watch the video on Scott Stevens greatest hits especially when he was with the New Jersey Devils this man ended a few careers with his hits and they were legal hits.
St. Louis = pronounced like Lewis, with the S sounded 😉 I don’t care for either team but I hate the Blackhawks more so when they’re playing each other I’ll pull for StL lol 😆 EDIT: Original Six are Chicago, New York (Rangers), Detroit, Boston, Toronto, Montréal
Yes the league has gotten much softer. Its all about speed now. There's no one who's purpose is just fighting anymore. Everyone in the league nowadays can play hockey. Even Ryan Reaves who is probably the toughest guy in the league has had a 20 point season
part of the story that is over looked back then the players made nothing. Some guys had to work day jobs. They travelled on shitty old team buses from rink to rink. Bobby Hull in 1972 signed the 1st $1Million dollar contract OVER 10 years, so $200k/yr, now remember he was the HIGHEST paid in the entire league
I guess you could say that the game is “softer” now. I always say the game is just different now. Players are more skilled, the rules are different, strategy is different and speed is the name of the game now.
Its only the last decade or so since the NHL really changed and became much less physical. I think it was the 2012 playoffs that had a huge amount of fights and brawls, not seen for a while. NHL really clamped down for good that next year.
Omg…! YASSS!!!! from ST.LOUIS. I hate the hawks , 😎. St. Patrick’s day massacre…!!! Beat tha brakes off Chicago, 😶. Uhh I meant good choice on videos 😂😂😂😂
Today's NHL is 100% "softer." The NHL intentionally changed the rules to open up the game and increase offense in 2005, and that necessarily led to a heavier focus on speed and skill over physicality. Add in the concerns over concussions and CTE, and it's made for a "softer" game. Not to say that it's "gone soft," but it definitely is much softer now than it was in the 1970-1990's era.
If he plays out his contract. There’s no ‘might’ about it..... Only thing stopping him is a career ending injury and he’s never hurt. It’s not a question of ‘might’ it’s a question of ‘when’

As a Kraken fan I do have an Autographed Bobby Hull puck and a autographed picture of Brett Hull.
I've always had a soft spot for the Blues. Even coming from a Habs fan.
Thanks bro I feel like everyone sleeps on us
Huge difference between then and now. 90s hockey had a bit of everything and best era. Today they barely even check let alone brawl.
Although I was just a kid I was fortunate enough to see the Blackhawks play in Chicago Stadium. Madhouse on Madison baby, hell yeah. 🏒🏒🏒
The reaction to NHL rivals: Chicago Blackhawks VS ST Louis Blues is very interested to watch and understand their hate for either.
You should do the Boston and Montrea’l
Roenick was right when he said it was the toughest division. They didn't call it the "Chuck" Norris Division for nothing
The Norris Division Was Crazy Before My Time
I hail from a family of Leafs fans, that married a boston freak, who had me...the Detroit fan?
There was a blockbuster Trade in NHL today Jack Eichel going to Knights other good players going to Buffalo.
It's not the best rivalry but it's really good
Multiple players for each team played into the 90s WITHOUT helmets.
Great reaction. Let's Go Blues!
First cup for Blues was 2019, right after Washington in 2018, then 2020/2021 for Tampa Bay
The age of the underdogs.
Didn’t even care if Washington won the cup (as a fan), beating Pittsburgh was my cup. The fact that we took their cup from them was enough for me....(they went back to back 2016/2017)
That was Capitals fans cup right there. I recommend you check out Pittsburgh/Capitals rivalry.
Long may the reign of the underdogs continue ❤️
Does the NHL have the most parity in the league? Across the board most teams are competitive which I can't say for other sports.
I remember in early 90s going to the blues Blackhawk games…. The upper nose bleed sections would shake and seemed like it would fail.
In 2019 the Blues went from worst to first. Check it out.
15:55 When you have two enforcers getting after it, just get out of the way.
Hull is our guy for life! During the 2019 cup run we had shirts that said drunk as hull, so let’s just say he enjoyed himself.
23:07 I think this series is old because the Blues won their very first Stanley Cup in 2019 against the Boston Bruins
6:32 RIP to Mr. Esposito 🙏🏿
Hawks 2010-2015 won 3 cups, insanely good run of rosters and performance.
9:52 Oh yeah. Sadly, he got 2 titles after he left St. Louis, 99 for Dallas Stars and 2002 for Detroit.
Hey kabir glad you watched this...St Louis is my team but great respect for Chicago. Great rivalry. Yes the NHL is softer.
Eddie the Eagle 🦅 Belfour did win the Cup with the Stars in 1999. He's an Icon in NHL I wouldn't be shocked if Price gets him close in wins if Carey stays healthy.
The next NHL Rivals video you should react to is the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Boston Bruins
19:02 This unwritten rule should be written: Don't touch the goaltender when he's already giving himself up to freeze the puck.
"I went to a fight the other night and a hockey game broke out." - Rodney Dangerfield.
Living in Chicago..back in the day these games use to be WARS!
There's certainly less fighting, but there's 10 great athletes skating out there at 100 mph and shooting way harder than before
A couple more rivalries; the battle of Alberta Calgary Flames VS Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche VS Detroit Red Wings
16:36 It's the other way around. Pure Enforcers don't work in the current NHL. Everyone is getting too fast and skillful, even the pure brutes (Chara is big, but I never consider him to be one) have to have some skating and offensive ability to survive.
Unfortunately the early 90s blues team were stripped of scott stevens and awarded to New Jersey who went on to win a few Stanley cups for them.
I don't know, they still have a lot of fights in hockey
Let’s go Blues!
React to New York Rangers vs Edmonton Oilers - Nov 5, 2021. Crazy game and Connor McDavid is pure magic!!!
Im sure the modern NHL player is bigger and stronger. The old school NHLer is probably tougher!
St. Louis = pronounced like Lewis, with the S sounded 😉
I don’t care for either team but I hate the Blackhawks more so when they’re playing each other I’ll pull for StL lol 😆
EDIT: Original Six are Chicago, New York (Rangers), Detroit, Boston, Toronto, Montréal
Yes the league has gotten much softer. Its all about speed now. There's no one who's purpose is just fighting anymore. Everyone in the league nowadays can play hockey. Even Ryan Reaves who is probably the toughest guy in the league has had a 20 point season
Ryan Reaves is my favorite
The rules are really what made the league "softer" and probably for good reason.
The Tampabay Lightning have won 2 Stanley Cups in a row.
part of the story that is over looked back then the players made nothing. Some guys had to work day jobs. They travelled on shitty old team buses from rink to rink. Bobby Hull in 1972 signed the 1st $1Million dollar contract OVER 10 years, so $200k/yr, now remember he was the HIGHEST paid in the entire league
I can not wait for Hockey Season!
It started a month ago

You have to watch NHL Rivalries: Islanders and Rangers
I guess you could say that the game is “softer” now. I always say the game is just different now. Players are more skilled, the rules are different, strategy is different and speed is the name of the game now.
Same with great NFL players. Look at QB Tom Brady. 10 Superbowls and won 7 of them including last year with the Tampabay Buccaneers
LETS GO HAWKS!
They get trickier now
This here is Merica, they're the St Louisss Blues xD
Lets Go Hawks!!!

90 percent of today's NHL would run to the locker room if anything like this ever happened. It kinda sux
My Blackhawks bay-bay!!!
16:28. Yes. Very soft. Gary Bettman has destroyed the NHL by trying to eliminate fighting. The late 80s early 90s was the golden age of the league.
Brett Hull is one of the all time leading scorers in NHL history but Alex Ovechkin just past him. Ovechkin might get to Great one record.
If he plays out his contract. There’s no ‘might’ about it.....
Only thing stopping him is a career ending injury and he’s never hurt. It’s not a question of ‘might’ it’s a question of ‘when’
LET'S GO BLUES!
Detroit was our biggest rival.
Hawks have been in the news recently but for the wrong reasons. You can look it up Kabir it's pretty disgusting and horrible.
You really need to look into the GOAT, Tom Brady.
Definitely softer -
