My dad bought me this video after the won they cup and I watched it everyday for a long time. We live in new haven, CT 90min from Manhattan and my whole family has been Ranger fans since the 1950’s. We all played hockey and this was a huge deal for us. Man this brings back some amazing memories being a ten year old kid who played and loved hockey and dreamed of being on the Rangers.
I was only 6 years old a month away from turning 7 when the Rangers won the Cup! My Mom put me to bed, but I wasn't tired. I just walked out of my room and went down stairs to my living room where my Dad was watching game 7. He didn't even say a word or ask why I was out of bed. My Dad let me watch the last 10 minutes of the game, and I witnessed the history! My Dad cried that night and I don't think he was able to sleep for 2 days! Now that I'm older, we would love to see them win another cup while he's still alive!
I almost feel like the NYR/NJD series just barely edges this out just because of the crosstown rivalry, but it's hard to ever put an ECF series over a SCF.
Even though I am from Boston I have always loved The NY Rangers. Ever since I was a young kid and seen this goalie with a name so long it curved around his back. That being John Vanbiesbrouck. I have been a huge fan since. I graduated HS in 1994 and this was the best graduation gift I could have ever asked for. I do love my Bruins but I will ALWAYS love the NY Rangers!!
I remember buying this very VHS tape back then and I thought I would treasure and keep it forever. Fast forward 30 years and I have no idea what happened to this cassette tape or when I saw it last. (I have moved many many times since) Must be in a landfill by now. Still the best $24.95 ever spent back then.
It has now been 52 years since the Vancouver Canucks have joined the NHL. Now they have a Cup drought that is almost the same as these 1994 New York Rangers. Crazy.
I was born in 93’, and live in Windsor, Ontario… we’re right across the River and border with Detroit. So naturally im a Red Wings fan and have been since I was born. But I had this on VHS growing up, just one of the many hockey videos I had. I played and watched this so much, I wore this tape out lol. Brings back some great memories of my childhood, sitting on the floor in front of the TV, eyes glue to the screen watching any and every Hockey VHS I had or could find!!
I remember watching every second of that year's playoffs and purchased the hat and video combo the day they won the cup. Still have this video on VHS....
as a Canucks fan it was heartbreaking, but it was prob the best cup finals to watch entertainment wise even to this day. Canucks are going on 53 years without a cup now and have had 3 losses in three finals and 2 riots.
I compared this series to the 2021 NBA Finals. Phoenix and Milwaukee just like Vancouver and the NY Rangers had suffered for so long, waiting desperately for a championship, and whoever won was going to savior that championship for years to come. The clinching game atmospheres in both MSG and Fiserv were insane. The only difference was that there wasn't a Game 7. But Game 6 of that Bucks vs Suns series did feel like Game 7 because if Phoenix won, there was no way they'd lose Game 7 at home. Giannis had other plans just like Messier and Leach did in 94. Good connection eh?
There's really no way you can know that if they held on to that one goal lead and finished the win in game one that the next 3 games would have happened exactly as they ended up happening.Vancouver was able to win 2 more games with their backs against the wall down 3-1 against a superior Ranger team, they very well may have done that even had the Rangers won game one.
22:37 that was the EA NHL '95 cover, but from the camera behind the goal. (At least he Sega version. Wouldn't know about the SNES version. the EA games absolutely sucked on SNES. Even worse than Aladdin)
Those action shots looked great on the cover of sports games back then, wish they still did that instead of just a crappy random picture of a player. That NHL 95 cover was epic because it was the first year they introduced the net cam!
So many of the Canucks goals could have easily been avoided if Richter didn’t play so far out of the crease. “Ohhhh Richter made the save!! Oh but they got him on the rebound!” Not really shocking seeing as he was like half way to the blue line! Yes, I’m exaggerating, but still.... Get back in the God damn crease!
Who Richter? McClean made 17 saves in OT and one shot hit the cross bar barely being a game winning goal. Doesn't matter in the long run, Richter and the Rangers won the cup and Richter had his number retired. The rest is history.

That's awesome, Jordan!!
Born in 1985... I was 9 when this happened. Few, but powerful memories. Hope I see it before I leave this planet.
Born in 89, while I was fortunate to see this at the age of 5, I always pull for you guys if it's not NY.
Same born in 85. I hope this is our year.

Hands down the best 7-game series in NHL history. Just ahead of Rangers-Devils.

This video was my introduction to hockey 🏒 and my love for the rangers
Thank goodness I witnessed this because I doubt this will ever happen again in my lifetime. That team overcame the curse but it still lives on.

it is a derogatory slang word used to define a Canadian

I adore the NHL and love Rangers. This is a really fab story from both sides. Am a hockey fan from the UK and miss watching it. A big thanks
Now 30 years later, lets make another one of these videos to last a lifetime
I know this video by heart.
the rangers have twice over come a 3-1 deficit since this as well
My next door neighbor looks like Pat Quinn from the 90s lol

The music in the ending should've been the theme from the movie "Rudy".
I watched the shit out of this VHS as a kid. I'm not even a fan of either teams lol.
It breaks my heart then,
It breaks my heart NOW
It will break my heart forever

I don't care. They won the series. That's all that mattered.
