She's not. She's calling them liars who always planned to cut winter fuel payments despite making out it's a decision they've been forced to take after finding out the finances were worse than they thought.
@@martinmurphy9679 what lie is this? The 22 billion pound 'black hole' that the IFS have said doesn't exist? The only black hole for Starmer is the unfunded public sector pay rises he gave out
It is true that Labour never promised to keep the winter fuel for OAP's ,,, However, Stazie did say he would end illegal immigration, but the boats keep coming and people are still dying !! How could Claire Coutinho be so smiley and cheery
That's technically correct, Labour's 2024 Manifesto doesn't mention winter fuel allowance at all. That said, Reeves was specifically asked prior to the election whether WFA was likely to be means tested and she replied that it wouldn't.
If Labour need to save money in order to give it to Zelensky, why not replace politicians gold plated pensions with tin plated pensions, that would save a lot and set a good example.
Yes it does stack up. Median pensioner income in 2022-23, after deducting housing costs, was £533 per week, compared with £589 per week among working-age individuals - a gap of roughly 10%. I for one, know that being at work costs extra money, (extra travel costs etc) the question is, why should working people with an income in the lower 50% be paying to heat the homes of pensioners in the upper 50% of incomes. The statistics show that the income profile of working and retired people are very similar.
The purpose of manifestos is to inform the voters so that they can decide what they would like in the years to come, or, as usual, this time, most of them, Labour's especially, were packs of lies. There is a whole load more that is coming our way from Labour that we are not going to like. More and more people, especially those elderly who just make ends meet at the moment are going to suffer the SHAME of being dragged down into Gordon Brown'a great grey-green greasy, stinking, slimy swamp of means tested benefits .... ages spent form filling with the threat of imprisonment if they forget something or don't cross all of the "t"s and dot all of the "i"s. I'm waiting for first pensioner with dementia being sent to prison under the Starmerist prison culture.
NO, they didn't ..... BUT, they did rip the Conservative Party to shreds for even suggesting that they might remove it, only a couple of years ago! For them to fall back on the fact that it wasn't mentioned in their manifesto - and that it should be the first action they took government is utterly disingenuous and a disgrace. One way or another, they misled the public!

It is hard to believe how badly Sir Kier has handled this. Pensioners are amongst the most wealthy in our society. The likes of Nigel Lawson, Ken Clark , John major and Edwina Curry {farage is not quiet old enough yet, why should he get it in the future now his limited company has followers} would get winter fuel payments, is that fair?
My Ex in laws tried to give it BACK. They didn't need the Winter Fuel allowance. They were told to shut up. They gave it to a homeless charity. Yes there are those that seriously need this help but, surely, it's the companies that should be squeezed. But, no, All Privatized so profit is protected. Debt is still owned by Taxpayers. Any shortfall on profit is made up by taxpayers.
My dad was one of those pensioners that was just above the threshold, so he couldnt get Pension credit but was still far from rich. I agree that rich pensioners shouldnt get it but theres plenty of pensioners that are no rich but will still lose out
Pensioners that still voted for 14 years of the Tories even when they knew what they were doing with the benefit cap and sanctions that led to deaths of thousands. But they won't be freezing to death this winter when they have hoarded wealth through years of not being means tested for a benefit that they don't need or deserve.

How many voters would Vote for labour if they declared Winter Fuel Allowance withdrawn??? 30% of the voters don't think
No one
System is corrupt
They didn't promise not to tax pension lump sums.
The new tax will be announced at the end Of October
@Casey-Jones They already tax pensioners lump sums. Anything over £10000 is taxed. Pensions are viewed as earnings and not savings.
Labour taking money from the needy and giving it to the greedy. Shameful.
