great review of the SD2IEC :-) Thanks for sharing!
+Naviaravideos thank you!
Just repaired an orphaned C64 and got it running again. Looking forward to trying out this modern disc equiv in the near future
This is really cool solution if you ask me.
Maybe I will pickup C64 because I missed that out back in the '90.
It's the cheapest solution. There are 100% compatible solutions like the 1541 ultimate, but those are a lot more expensive.
Geat video, thanks! Btw where to get that awesome t-shirt ;)
I LOVE the title melody of Commando! For years my mobile phone ringtone. ;-)
+Wuppino one of my favorite tunes as well. Especially the one when you clear a stage.
Why are few subscribers on this channel? Great content, man
Thanks, spread the word! =)
Much appreciated.
The great giana sisters,GRAN GIOCO
Amazing!
Nice video! What were those keys you were pressing down during reboot and what was it for?
I'm pressing RUN/STOP to bypass the GUI of the Final Cartridge 3 and start directly into basic.
I love the quality you get on your TV. What are you using for that ?
It's a Dell monitor with S-video input. It's imho the best way to use the C64 if you don't want to use an oldschool crt.
I liked the floppies more nostalgia on the C64C with the C1541-II and the C1571 as drive 9.
Yes, me too. But floppies don't have the eternal life. I think it's better to switch to solid state devices for daily use and keep the floppies for nostalgic reasons.
Hi
Great review but i had a question I made back when i was a kid alot of programs and games on the c64 i would like to transfer over can
the SD2IEC connect to a real disk drive and is it possible to transfer my things over to the SD card ?
And i see alot of different versions of the SD2IEC on sites like thefuturewas8bit which one should i go for for doing that?
hope you can help :)
+tinial007 Thank you very much!
About tranfering your old stuff to an SD card, check out this page:

Method #4 is the one you want to read up on. And I use the SD2IEC from TheFutureWas8bit. I'm sure others are fine as well.
Great Video ! How did you get such an crisp Video Output ? Do you use Special Cables? I use DIN to cinch on my flat TV - Not as good as your picture
An s-video cable from retrocables.
RetroGameCouch thx i just bought one
No problem!!
Hi, at the 5:20 mark you restart and press f5 to load a program. I cannot find any documentation on programming function keys outside of basic programs. Is there a cartridge you're using or is there a way to program the keys permanently?
The power cartridge. F5 for load, f3 for run
@@RetroGameCouch that's what I thought. thanks.
I saw that you enter the file browsing just pushing F5. Mine SD2IEC doesn't work that way. I've to write LOAD "*",8.1 and then RUN. But It's easier your way. How did you make It works?
By use of a cartridge like the Final Cartridge 3 or the Power Cartridge. These also speedup the loading *A LOT*.
there are now many versions of the sd2iec. you can use also for vic 20. some sd2iec have no cables at all.
Yes, a lot has changed. I still prefer something like the backbit though. ua-cam.com/video/k_eSAzLgFmk/v-deo.html
Sound of memories
can you play games images from cassette tape too? or just floppies?
You can store PRGs, those are the binary representtive of tape games/single file games.
TAP files (loading from tape) cannot be emulated by this device.
hi where can i bye one from? good video by the way thanks

Mine takes it's power from the joystick port. I think I'm going to have to fix that with a little solder work.
it also is not compatible with a fastloader cart. I'm probably going to have to get a JiffyDos setup. The maker indicated I could not upgrade the firmware. I should have paid a little more for a better one.
Never seen one use the joystick port before. Whatever gives gets you 5v I guess :)
If you want true emulation and want to spend a little more, I can recommend the 1541 Ultimate. Check www.1541ultimate.net . Also check the UK1541, which is also pretty great but less easy to acquire.
what keys did you press to get back to cbm ??
btw are you dutch? :D
I turned the commodore off and on again, while holding the Commodore key to bypass the Final Cartridge menu. And yes, I am very Dutch :)
ok i see, thanks! howdoe!
Laterz! =)
Every person named Chaos I've ever met was Dutch ;)
Can it handle multi-disk games; if so, how does it do that? Thanks.
Yes, it has a button for this purpose.
Or use D81 Files
@@barneygumble7300 can I save a game in progress?
i think so. only tested with summer games II - worked for me. try it out :-)
how do you connect to lcd screen?
+Remco Smits My LCD has s-video in. A few of them have, like the Dell 2001FP
i connected my c64 with rf cable and tuned the analogue tuner in to the c64.
How did you hook up your c64g to that monitor ?
With s-video. It's a Dell 2001FP which has s-video input and gives a really good image with a C64.
That was the answer i was looking for. Thanks alot :) Do you know the exact specs for the resistor for the chroma ?
Perfect, thanks!
where i can buy this ?
it's pretty expensive, but loading games from cassette, wow... it's terrible, too much slow. anyway how does it work where did you get games to put on the sd ?
+joseph philip Capobianco that website has a zipfile you can download.
do you have to download files on sd card to make this thing to work ?
+joseph philip Capobianco yes, the disk images
It's really too bad that it isn't 100% 1541 compatible. There really isn't any reason for it not to be, other than the designers didn't spend the extra time and effort to make it so.
Yes, I know it's not meant to be the equivalent of a 1541 Ultimate, but the Ultimate has a bunch of other features besides just emulating a disk drive. The makers of the SD2IEC COULD have made it behave exactly like a real 1541 if they'd really wanted to. Emulators like VICE can pretty much emulate a 1541 drive perfectly with disk images, so that same level of compatibility could have been programmed into the SD2IEC.
