    I lived there when on April 9, 1948, the Bogotazo broke out, sparking a ten-year revolution (La Violencia) that took an estimated 400,000 lives. I have original photos and write ups. It brings back wonderful, and scary, memories. Glad it is such a great city now.

      Yessss I recommend going to Mount Monserrate it took me 2 hours to climb and it was a great experience, you loose weight. And at the top you can buy foods like, hot chocolate, arepas , chorizo, and many others delicious breakfasts. And there is a church.but bring a jacket since it’s really cold at the top.

    Bogota is such a cultural and authentic metropolis. There's really few videos that focus more on the city itself than cliche things to do. There's nothing like walking La Septima from Plaza de Bolivar all the way to the 100th street or Usaquen, there is where you really see the might of Colombia's capital. Going to Centrico and having a beer with the Centro Internacional's skyscrapers in front of you is insane, or watching the city light up from the Colpatria tower on a weekend day. Visiting a rock bar in Chapinero by the Lourdes church and going clubbing to Theatron in Chapigay by the Hippies park, then going on a Sunday to Park Simon Bolivar or just exploring around Ciudad Salitre and looking at the city's skyline with the mountains on the background from Gran estacion mall's terrace. Bogota is an insane very underrated city.

      Sure we did miss more place - we only spend about 2 days exploring the city and needed the other 2 to rest, go shopping (not to interesting for a video), get a haircut and to party ;) Anyway I think it could be useful as a rough guide to start out with and add some more sights/tours yourself. If you have more recommendations it'd be great if you could put them into the comments for future visitors!

    During your time in Bogota, you should have taken some days to visit some towns like Zipaquira, Villa de Leyva, Raquira, Tibasosa, Mongui and the Tota Lagoon. All those places are within 1 to 3 hours from Bogotá and are worth visiting... specially because they are not yet that known for international travellers.

      Some colombians abroad mostly the ones that were forced to immigrate decades ago due to violence and poverty still have a very bad thought of their own country. Although the conditions aren't the best yet. The country has changed a lot in the latest years and allows tourists and even locals to enjoy traveling the most of it and have a great time there. And from my point of view the most of tourist fall in love with colombia when they visit it.

    Also, despite being almost on the equator, due to its high elevation Bogota has the climate of London. It rarely gets above 20 C. A friend of mine from Bogota who moved to Canada complained about the *heat* here in the summer! It was amusing coming from someone who grew up a few day's drive from the steaming hot jungles of the Amazon.

      Right now, the weather in Bogota is 17 C and will go down to 9 tonight. And it rains a lot. The weather generally ranges between 20 C during the day and 10 C at night all year. London is actually warmer in the summer.

    • @squamish4244
      @squamish4244 5 років тому +2

      Yes, it rarely goes above 20. That's accurate. AND it rarely goes below 10, so what? It's going to be 22 there tomorrow. I'm two degrees off.
      In Canada, a few degrees difference day-to-day is barely noticeable. Not when we have huge annual swings from 30 C to -30 C.

It is not Andres Carne de Res. That one is the original in Chia. The one in Bogota is Andres DC. DC means De Corazon. Of the heart.

    If you want to pronounce Bogota correctly, don't put the strength on "GO" but "TA". Everyone who speaks English pronounce boGOta, it's actually bogoTA! Try saying the first two syllables with the same strength, and then scream loud the last one: "TA". That's how it is pronounced.

      BackPacker Steve Wikipedia is not always a trustful source. In this case it is wrong.

      Really? Have you even read it? This article is based on 19 different sources...moreover I took part in several historical tours in Bogota where I learned about it as well.

      BackPacker Steve I not only read Wikipedia and I have donated to support it. I did read the article. Your video is nice and generous with the country. Thank you for that. Sources confirming the Gran Colombia name are simply from ignorant people. There is no legal or historically rigorous document that talks about the Gran Colombia Nation, which never existed. The Constitution of Cucuta and the Angostura Congress both refer to the Republic of Colombia.

    Good vidéo, however, you only patronized business for the most part rather than historic sites. Rating 5 out of 10.

    This city is called BOGOTÁ, with the accent on the a, not BOGÓTA. Good video nevertheless.
