    The black-and-white hi-res graphics certainly gave Mac games a unique look you didn't see on other systems.

    Something so charming about the 1bpp chunky pixel aesthetic of Mac games from this era

    Never saw Lunar Rescue. Very cool.
    Feathers and Space is a new one too. Got a Phoenix (arcade game) vibe.
    Continuum, very cool (very hard). Oids sort of kicked its ass some years later.
    Moria or some other rogue-like would be on my list of compact-Mac games. And any number of solitaire games (example: Baker's Dozen).

    Great video with suggestions for games I wasn't aware existed and I thought I had seen them all in those years!

    Thanks for the suggestions. I have a Mac SE/30 and have been looking for recommended games for it. I didn't have one at the time, so I didn't know what was good and I think all your suggestions are new to me so I'll be sure to try them.

    Fantastic video Gruz. I'd love to see more like this. So much imagination in these early games, Lunar Rescue in particular.

    Continuum and Arkanoid has been one of my very favorite games along with Beyond Dark Castle to play on my Macintosh Plus at home. While being black and white, that does not change the fact that so much fun can be had. :3

    Great video! I really enjoyed this look at some of these original Mac classic games. It’s inspiring to see the level of detail and gameplay that was made possible at the very birth of the platform.

      Thanks Steve! 😁 I agree - a lot of these games are really well thought out. And amazing what some folks can do with those 1-bit graphics!

    "Bolo" - a birds-eye-view tank game with procedurally generated maps

    • @3rdalbum
      @3rdalbum 2 роки тому

      Bolo only came with one map, and map editors existed - some of those could procedurally generate a map but that wasn't built into Bolo.
      Definitely a great recommendation though, Bolo was fantastic.

    • @slightlyaboveaveragegaming4973
      @slightlyaboveaveragegaming4973 2 роки тому

      @@3rdalbum before each game, the player enters a numerical value for "density", then the map is generated, procedurally, based on that input.

    I loved Lunar Rescue. I spent hours and hours playing it back around 1991 until I beat it. You could save your game as a file so you can just make a bunch of copies of your progress until you make it to the next base, that’s how I did it. I played Mac Bugs too but not heard of the others you have mentioned. I’ll need to check them out.

    Absolutely loved Continuum back in the day. Some of the craziest custom maps ever with drawings and the enemy firing rates cranked up to 11. I'd love to know if you ever played Bolo.

      I used to play Bolo on my SE/30 back in the day but I was always so bad at it! 😄

      @@insanelygruz I recall some sort of PPC and a laptop were used. Me and my brother would duke it out and also had a ton of Bolo brains (CPUs) playing too. Wild times.

    Continuum for Mac is very cool! Continuum (aka alpha waves) for DOS is a very different game.
    Hey I remember playing BUGS.

      I played a lot of Continuum on DOS too! Was one of the 10 or so boxed DOS games I owned back in the 90s! 👍

    Awesome recommendations! Lunar Rescue is new to me, but I already like how you shoot in the same direction as your thruster. Oids used the classic shooting direction, which always made things awkward as you had to rotate to point your nose down to shoot at enemies and hopefully you've planned enough time to point the nose back up to thrust and avoid the terrain...
    MacBugs ... I never got the hang of aiming in either "normal" or "cowardly" mode. It would have been better to use keyboard controls to rotate aim. Just a couple keys to rotate left/right by 45 degrees. Oh well.

    Как же приятно знать что есть те, кому так же нравятся старые игры для Mac.
    Очень много эксклюзивов о которых не говорят. Да и система не особо популярная. И зря, очень годная система!

    at 3:35, i am not that impressed by this one, seemed like a 70s style arcade game, in 1985, a friend of mine owned a mackintosh, which was about $8000, his father was an electric engineer, he could pay $50 for a game that had story and exploration and fight, which was so impressing. now known as rpg.
