With the Gargoyles episode I love how childlike he was acting/playing with the gun. That's what a kid would do especially after seeing a movie like that. This episode is needed now more than ever for various reasons, but mostly because kids are getting a hold of their parent's guns (and the parents suck for not having the safety on or having it unloaded) and shooting themselves, their siblings, and their parents, sometimes killing people in the process. Also I'm surprised Eclipsa "killing" her daughter wasn't in this episode. Maybe have a darkest Star vs The Forces of Evil list.

@kristian rikardsen RS? As for SU and SVTOE, it really depends, SU is basically just crying and occasionally plot...you forget how many filler episodes there are. With SVTFOE, it also depends, last season and now this season have been more dark, but also not, example: do you really remember anything dark outside of the scenes where Toffee was in Ludo's body?
he's especially threatening because you spend the whole season with ludo, who is the generic, fun, unthreatening villian, who is more of a nuisance than an actual threat...only for toffee to come in and being emotionless and ruthless, almost instantly suceeding in his plan and rendering star helpless but to give in or watch marco die. Reinforced by star not effing around either, she runs into the room and blows him in half without so much as a word, before preceding to fight ludo's monsters with non-lethal force as she'd done all season. Keeping in mind that she didn't necessarily know he'd regenerate, she was trying to kill him outright. All the characters treat him as so much more dire a threat than any other villian, and that in turn makes him much scarier, makes the eventual reveal he's returned all the more alarming.
Milo Murphy's Law is another pretty dark Disney Channel cartoon. The fact that the main character is forced to go through a cyclone of calamity that tries to kill him and his friends can be pretty dark.
True, but even though it’s a scary concept I think his good-nature and happy go lucky attitude offset the darkness. There also hasn’t really been one episode that I would really call “dark”. It would be interesting to see it get dark though, like if Milo gave up but I don’t think it’s really in his character to do so
That would be an interesting plot, especially if Milo became emotionally traumatized or something, and the usually goofy and endlessly hilarious Weird Al would put in such a emotional performance that would show how well he can act.
It’s not like this is new, Disney has always been dark! It’s amazing when Disney is able to go dark. I love when Disney goes dark, no matter if it’s an tv show, animated show, or movies Also, I totally agree with you on #5, 3, 2
literally almost all of the modern shows, starts as bright and postive, and also weird in a hilarious way then in the midway, it gets super dark and creepy like star vs, Gravity Falls Adventure time ofc Steven Universe Regular show theres more I guess, just dont know what to mention here
I would argue Ducktales' Season 1 penultimate episode was the darkest, certainly of the series, but perhaps more than anything on this list. The way it ends with every character feeling awful just strikes home this feeling of complete darkness.
whatever happened to della duck is up there too, while her determination is admirable, the situation feels so hopeless throughout...and...does include her amputating her leg *offscreen* before the kind of limp ending where the moon people just kinda show up and save her.
I had learned the most important lesson from Phineas and Ferb and Star vs. The Forces of Evil is that creativity, imagination, and individuality are not only divine powers, they are also essential for a functioning self and as well as a functioning society in a global scale. And any institutions in any form that obstruct and destroy any and all creativity, imagination, and individuality are considered unconstitutional and should immediately be shut down and demolished.
That is true, our abilities to make independent choices, be creative, and have differences in thought and feeling are what make us unique human beings.
Howdy! It's been good fun checking out the darker side of my 3 my favourite networks. Let me know if you have any suggestions for future videos. Hope you're having a cheery week and you are in good spirits. Thanks for dropping in :)
Great video as always, Strider! The Tron: Uprising show had some dark moments, in particular the two-parter, Scars. In the episode, Tron seeks revenge on the program who had tortured him and "reprogrammed" the mind of one of his friends. Tron's scars spread across his face thanks to his anger, and he even physically lashes out at his protégé and friend, Beck, including attacking him with electricity. The torture scene is even shown, albeit with the worst behind partially closed doors, including using a buzz-saw on Tron - leading to those scars on his FACE.
I'm not sure if this will count, but I remember a very dark moment from Super robot monkey team hyper force go. It used to be on a disney owned channels family and jetex. While there were alot of dark and creepy moments from the show, one really stuck into my mind. It was the episode, Ghosts Of Shuggazoom. The citizens were forced to transform into this ring wrath type of creatures, and you can see the transformation is very painful and eerie to witness. And when they did, they give of this unsettling screech that sends chills up your spine. anyway, really enjoyed the list.
About the soup in the star vs evil episode it was a great scene because it was a call back to before when glosseric was teaching her about magic and compared it to soup all the good bits are at the bottom
Wow I was ready to throw down and enjoy some deliciously dark episodes of Gravity Falls, Star vs, and Phineas and Ferb, but I was not expecting how serious number 1 would be. I heard of the episode but had no idea it was this dark. Like I didn't know he actually SHOT someone and almost killed her! Your speech toward the end really hit me hard cause I feel the same way about guns. I'm absolutely terrified of them because in an instant, they can kill just like that. My family has never owned a gun and I'm thankful I never laid hands upon them as a kid, it may have traumatized me. Even though I'm older and more responsible I still wouldn't want to own such a deadly weapon even for self defense. And in this scary world we live in sometimes I feel like it wouldn't be a bad idea with all the mass shootings going on. Someone I was once friends with was killed in a gang related shooting last year and I was just shocked. Getting a bit off topic but I always fear where and when the next mass shooting in America will be. Could hit really close to home one day....(who am I kidding it already has). We seem to be a bit obsessed with guns here in this country, and honestly it kind of scares me. I try not to take a major side in the whole gun control debate but I really do feel that a little gun control could never hurt. If it can prevent one mass shooting it would be all worth it to me.....
And I think ur reacting in a fear response to guns they are honesty not bad but u need to be disciplined and responsible to use them and I will carry when I get older because I want to protect myself my loved ones and ppl around me that can’t protect themselves
Reckno64 they aren’t just for killing they are for protecting the ppl u love and idc care if u like guns or not it’s ur opinion but some ppl that don’t like guns want them to be banned like I don’t like mushrooms do I want to ban them no u know so as long as u keep an open mind then ur good and don’t listen to mainstream media and what Hollywood says about guns
To this day, I CONTINUE to question Candace's character since the Phineas and Ferb Get Busted episode. While a part of me believes she only tries to tattle on the boys in order to "keep them safe." During the vast majority of the series' run, it felt like the exact opposite. What did she think would happen, if her brothers got in trouble? Would there be global wide peace, would politicians (finally) act like honest people, would world hunger no longer be an issue...would Candace be able to go to Third Base with Jeremy? These all seem like ridiculous ideas to you people. But they all share one thing in common, they are all based upon the personality of an equally ridiculous teenager. To me, Candace seems to believe that her getting the boys in trouble is "for the greater good;" both for them AND the world. But here's the thing...Phineas and Ferb aren't your ordinary pre-teen boys. They both have exceptional skill in building, have vast knowledge of intergalactic civilizations and technology, helped some of Earth's Mightiest Heroes (in Marvel's case) save the world, possess near genius level intellect and have inventions that could provide a great service to others...as well as a good time. So, would it really be a good idea to have two of the brightest minds on earth be confined in their rooms for the rest of the summer? Is one's teenage social life (meaning Candace's) really all that important?
I think the reason why she still tried to bust them after that episode is because it’s a continuity issue, a common problem in cartoons. (even cartoons that try to use continuity actively.) Especially in a cartoon that have/had a long run like Phineas and Ferb. Some moments are forgotten or are treated like they only happened in that one episode and do not matter to the rest. With so many episodes under their belt it’s understandable when these things happen. As for why Candace tries to bust her brothers all the time, I can’t really defend that. Cartoon logic is Th only thing I can think of.
Think of everything those boys will do, if anything the parents would be proud and amazed that their children can do these things. The Nobel Prize will be so obvious for years to come.
3:02 I'll admit it, I'm no fan of Star. But that re-animation sequence was neat to watch. Makes me think of a boss from Dark Souls 3 named Aldrich Saint of the Deep!
I know this comment is very late, but Star is an awful show. It started off really good, but just like Gyakuten Kenji 2, it brushed off Toffee (the Blaise Debeste of the series) in favor of a rushed ending that had no effort put into it.
Another great video Strider, I'm actually surprised you even cover Gargoyles for the series just doesn't get the credit it actually deserves, that episode alone was one I still can't forget so I'm still totally thrilled it was mentioned. Thanks again and can't wait for the next video.
Watching this reminded me of a episode that makes my skin crawl thinking about it. It's a Wander Over Yonder episode where Wander and Sylvia go to a living planet that ends up obsessed with Wander. The planet is basically a massive female plant that is very lonely and grew to adore Wander for his kindness towards her. The planet, whose name I forgot, gets jealous of Sylvia and becomes very vile to her. I find obsession to be a very creepy and interesting topic to delve into. I liked that episode, even when I was younger
@@squill9446 season 2's Dominator arc was especially dark. It even had a character die for the first time on screen in "The Bot", and the two part premiere of season 2 was dark as well. Wander ALMOST died when dom pinned him against the wall.
gamefan6219 the Bot is such a beautiful episode and one of my favorites of the series. The ending is so beautiful and I love the message that even the tiniest bit of kindness and empathy can make a huge difference.
@@gamefan6219 also bear in mind that Bot 13 (aka Beepboop) was a robot... He screamed when Dominator threw him into space... Which means Dominator PURPOSELY programmed her 'bots to feel pain. If that's not dark I don't know what is.
With the dark stories and brilliant moments the DuckTales reboot has, I tend to find it better than the original DuckTales. I can't wait to see the new episode this Saturday.
What are you talking about the new version sucks they barely have adventures anymore they mostly stand around and talk it's dull. The jokes are sometimes a little funny but they butchered all the characters.
More like they improved the characters. They still do have adventures, but they also take some time to build some great chemistry with the characters, which is also superior to the chemistry from the original. And the humor and dialogue are hilarious with great pacing that makes a lot of bull's-eyes. There are so many things the reboot improved upon from the original, although I guess I find the animation from the original superior.
Goleon The animation in this reboot is also hand-drawn. The style of it is rather a mix of a comic book illustration with modern animation. The style of the original is more traditional.
Macandbloo11 - Well it's somewhat hand-drawn as they do use the computer a lot too. All 2D animation does as it makes things slightly easier. When I say hand-drawn I mean old school big time traditional by hand and only by hand kind.
Disney Channel dark moments was such a good choice! Disney Channel isn't known for darkness, but when it's done, it does it right unlike the lowest common denominator Nickelodeon *cough* _breadwinners_ *cough* .
@@f.d.7190 yup. I mean, at least Breadwinners had nice animation. The backgrounds looked OK and had a mostly good colour palette, and the characters...okay, I admit I couldn't originally tell that they were meant to be ducks, but at least it wasn't complete garbage. Fanboy and Chum Chum, on the other hand...
Painter's Block - Tangled: The Series The Secret of Avalor, and Forever Royal - Sofia the First: These may not be scary for kids above 7, but these episodes are way too extreme for a show meant for preschoolers. Crap, that's all the dark Disney Channel episodes I have >:/
He should do disney junior episodes. I think number one would definitely be 101 Dalmatian Street, The DeVil Wears Puppies. Like, man, that episode is dark.
The DuckTales reboot also has quite a reputation for being dark. "The Missing Links of Moonshire!" involved the characters having their lives on the line in a mystical golf course, and they are being followed by kelpies voiced by Tara Strong and Andrea Libman to try and lead them to a sinking death, to which Louie hilariously calls them "murder ponies."
+ Guadulupe Hernandez Except the show *does* have dark moments. Murder ponies, Lena's nightmare about Magica killing Webby, Magica possessing Lena, Scrooge shunning his own family after he told the story of Huey, Louie, and Dewey's mother, and Magica killing Lena's physical shadow embodiment. And those are just moments of the first season. It's not 100% as dark as the Weirdmageddon trilogy, but DuckTales is only at the beginning of its second season. Give it time and it'll most likely have darker consequences in its later episodes just like Gravity Falls, Star vs., and Wander Over Yonder did in their second seasons.
We'll Meet Again Actually, it's already pretty dark enough. Probably the most darkest thing so far was Lena's relationship with Magica, because it feels and looks like a very accurate depiction of what it's like to grow up in a abusive relationship. Lena feels like she's a hostage, as the only adult she has in her life that is related to her always manipulates her into doing her evil deeds while constantly showing Lena her disdain. With the fact that she couldn't tell anyone as Magica has Lena magically tethered to her to keep her silent, and the fear of her only friend turning her back her makes Lena feel that she truly has no one that loves her. Also, from being tethered to her aunt all her life, and the fear of selling her friends out to Magica, it has caused Lena to have an extreme case of self-loathing, viewing herself as a traitor and a monster. I really hope Lena will be able to be fully restored so she can be part of the McDuck family. Having a family that would actually love her would be something that anyone would want, and should have.
I'd say that personally I think the darkest episode of Sesame Street is The Crack Master, the darkest episode of The Muppet Show is Alice Cooper, and the darkest episode of Fraggle Rock is The Terrible Tunnel
Strider has already mentioned this one on an earlier list, but let's not forget the episode where Elmo gets PTSD after a fire inside Mr. Hooper's store. It was aired after 9/11 and was the closest Sesame Street can get without going into the details of that horrific day.
Honestly Toffee freaked even me out, I guess I wasn’t expecting it but still, everything from its regeneration, star being basically murdered and that Gremlin like death scene, it honestly surprised me But Toffee easily became one of my favourite animated villains so, I do like him as a character
I’ve seen a lot of people say that Soos and the Real Girl is the most disturbing episode of Gravity Falls. As a kid I never really found it THAT scary except for the bit with Gifany “deleting” Rumble. I don’t know what was so scary about that scene maybe how strong they established Rumble in Fight Fighters or maybe how Gifany’s design was so cute and poppy and you really wouldn’t expect something like that from a design so lighthearted. The reason why people say it’s creepy is because of how much of a stalker Gifany acts like towards Soos. Looking back on it yeah that is creepy but I didn’t fully understand that concept as a kid. So I found the episode a lot more enjoyable than scary. And now looking back on it I love the episode even more for how dark it is and I love how Soos was portrayed. It’s definitely one of my favorites. 💙💖
The most striking part of Deadly Force to me was always how Broadway was so affected by the near death of Elise by his hand. He's extremely guilt-ridden the entire episode and apologizes to Elise, and from then on dislikes guns. How his demeanor and behavior about this changed for the rest of the series, as one would expect of someone that nearly killed his friend, was so realistically handled and done well. Not only that, but Elise acknowledged that she should have been more careful with how she stored her gun and from that episode on is shown taking greater care with it. Simply fantastic all around. We need more stuff like that.
One part I noticed about Deadly Force is... well, the context of the accident shows why a kid might even be playing with a gun in the first place. They see valiant heroes using them, getting the impression that they’re a symbol of justice, and then they notice their parents owning one, and because kids like emulating their heroes... that happens.
Anyone who didn't appreciate the music from the DKC trilogy for the SNES is a joke that would much rather watch UA-camrs that are NOT as great as PhantomStrider. Like the ones that harassed me for having sifferent opinions instead of did anything to warrant being considered important.
Oh, how I remember the events of the Weirdmageddon. Something only the physical embodiment of insanity can think of. And I remember Time baby's demise, which was just as dark as you could think. Well, at least all that madness was contained in a bubble-like force field for only 3 episodes, which doesn't have any other negative effect on the universe! Oh, except for the death of a time-powered being who looks like a baby!
The same company that goes from a happy-chappy song and then immediently to a destroyed town and then dead children as soon as the characters turn around. Seriously.

I get the Clockwork Orange reference in Phineas and Ferb. Their grandfather on their dad’s side is voiced by Malcolm McDowell, who portrayed Alex DeLarge in the movie
... The best part about deadly force it was that eliza realized it was her fault as well because she DIDN'T put her gun in a safe place as it should be.

The Star VS. The Forces of Evil plot where she 'digs deep' into the soup is relevant from Season 1. :) Her guide wasn't really there, it was more her digging deep into herself to find her magic. Similar to Harry Potter meeting Dumbledore at the train station in limbo, when he got 'killed' by Voldemort.
@@donutdog5326 That sucks. There were some really dark epsiodes of Regular show, especially the terror tales episodes.Heck! Muscle Man got SKINNED in the first one. You forgot to mention the Box from Recess. TLDR: As a new method of Punishment Ms. Finster puts T.J. isolated in a box and T.J. starts developing PTSD.
I am super pro gun, but that gargoyles episode is really a nice episode to show kids that guns are obviously dangerous. It can teach kids that owning a gun is a huge responsibility.
This episode, as far as I recall, wasn't pulled in Canada -- at least not right away. I grew up watching Gargoyles religiously, and the gun episode is one of the ones that has stuck with me the most. If I'm being honest, it's probably the best depiction of "gun safety" geared toward a younger audience (and even for an older audience) to date.
I started watching Gargoyles on Disney Plus, and "Deadly Force" was one of my favorite episodes. The way it handled a mature topic was truly unforgettable. #BringGargoylesBack
In the 101 Dalmatian Street for the last season which is named “The De Vil wears Puppies” ,all of the Dalmatian pups have been kidnapped by Cruella which people thought she’s dead. What hurst for some is the scene where Cruella takes Dawkins favorite Doll “Princess Positron” and throws it into a machine that turns the Pups into corpse . I thought that they will never survive and I eve got scared that my favorite character D.J. is going to turn into a fur coat. Until Dolly and Dylan stopped them and Cruella was arrested and sent into a Mental Constitution . The sad part is that Cruella’s Nephew Hunter ,was kidnapping them to impress his aunt until he realized the shocking truth on what is she going to do with them.
6. God, I hate the episode Phineas and Ferb Get Busted. It is so dark, mean-spirited, and grim. And what worst is that everything that'd happened in this episode didn't even happened, due to it being a dream within a dream. 5. Toffee was both a dark episode, and a rather dark villain. Hell, for a guy who spent most of his time as either a sophisticated monster, or a skeletal hand manipulating Ludo, he's still intimidating. 4. I got nothing to say. I've never watched any of the Darkwing Duck episodes. 3. Weirdmaeddon was a rather dark series, but I'd be remised if I didn't say that Bill Cipher was a disappointment. For being a near-omnipotent being, who can bend reality at will, he can't exit Gravity Falls without breaking the barrier surrounding the area, which he didn't even know how to break it, AND is outsmarted by a set of twins as a con artist. 2. Now this is what Phineas and Ferb Get Busted should've been. 1. Again, I have nothing to say, since I never saw Gargoyles growing up.
I got so excited seeing the number one! I think I was one of if not the first to suggest it on Twitter... And it made me feel special seeing it. Like I helped in some way.

0:10 My favorite way to describe my favorite episode of Gravity Falls: "Disney does its own take on the story of Faust, where the main character is a twelve year old boy who becomes the victim of demonic possession." Hi phantomstrider! Always nice to see you posting a new video
I mean... it's in the name...
*DARK* Wing Duck.
CarlsonGames 2007 But it was surprisingly light-hearted! Talk about ironic, huh? :3
Eheheheh
Lol that is what I was thinking
Darker wing duck
50 shades of dark wing duck
I had learned the most important lesson from Phineas and Ferb and Star vs. The Forces of Evil is that creativity, imagination, and individuality are not only divine powers, they are also essential for a functioning self and as well as a functioning society in a global scale. And any institutions in any form that obstruct and destroy any and all creativity, imagination, and individuality are considered unconstitutional and should immediately be shut down and demolished.
That is true, our abilities to make independent choices, be creative, and have differences in thought and feeling are what make us unique human beings.
And the People should be arrested for deinividualising.

Best episodes of good cartoons!
I miss these shows which had a proper ending. A bittersweet but an actual ending.
The finale was pretty damn dark too.
I remember being SO scared of that episode, that I had to change the channel.
About the soup in the star vs evil episode it was a great scene because it was a call back to before when glosseric was teaching her about magic and compared it to soup all the good bits are at the bottom
You're the reason I started watching Gargoyles and now making it one of my favorite Disney Channel shows. Thanks, Strider ^^
And great video.
Reckno64 u know gun control would make it worse and gun free zones don’t work
And I think ur reacting in a fear response to guns they are honesty not bad but u need to be disciplined and responsible to use them and I will carry when I get older because I want to protect myself my loved ones and ppl around me that can’t protect themselves
@@kyle60213 I understand where you're coming from but guns are still deadly weapons used to kill. That's fundamentally why I don't like them...

PREACH
The real question is WHO'S DREAM WAS IT CANDENCE OR PERRY

Never forgot about that Phineas and Ferb episode
Excellent pick for number 1, I never watched the show, but that is a good message to be shown
Watching this reminded me of a episode that makes my skin crawl thinking about it.
Jinx Minx the planets name was Janet. Janet the planet!
@@squill9446 @Jinx Minx And the episode was called the Lonely Planet!

Anything with WOY I gotta hit that like button.
Macandbloo11 - Well that's mostly cause the original was drawn by hand so they had to put in as much detail as possible.
What about fanboy and chumchum
@@f.d.7190 yup. I mean, at least Breadwinners had nice animation. The backgrounds looked OK and had a mostly good colour palette, and the characters...okay, I admit I couldn't originally tell that they were meant to be ducks, but at least it wasn't complete garbage. Fanboy and Chum Chum, on the other hand...
Ren and Stimpy, Invader Zim and The Legend of Korra but yeah they have garbage cartoons now
13:33 Wait... wat!? How did I forget Gargoyles was a Disney Channel show!?

Painter's Block - Tangled: The Series
The Secret of Avalor, and Forever Royal - Sofia the First: These may not be scary for kids above 7, but these episodes are way too extreme for a show meant for preschoolers.

You should do a list of the darkest episodes of gravity falls because that deserves it's own list
It's not even that dark. It was a stupid episode. The reboot sucks. This show doesn't have dark episodes.
+ Guadulupe Hernandez
Except the show *does* have dark moments.
We'll Meet Again
Actually, it's already pretty dark enough.

Strider has already mentioned this one on an earlier list, but let's not forget the episode where Elmo gets PTSD after a fire inside Mr. Hooper's store. It was aired after 9/11 and was the closest Sesame Street can get without going into the details of that horrific day.
Honestly Toffee freaked even me out, I guess I wasn’t expecting it but still, everything from its regeneration, star being basically murdered and that Gremlin like death scene, it honestly surprised me
But Toffee easily became one of my favourite animated villains so, I do like him as a character
Hackie Puffs What’s funny is that Gifany was basically Monika from DDLC before Monika even existed.

True. Those lines between reality and fiction can take some time to be established in a young mind.

Celtic Magician yea it shows that guns are not toys and that safety is required to handle them and always treat guns as if they are always loaded
The NRA couldn’t have this episode lowering gun sales so they had it removed clearly.
I started watching Gargoyles on Disney Plus, and "Deadly Force" was one of my favorite episodes. The way it handled a mature topic was truly unforgettable.
