I don't own a Sportster or any kind of Harley, but I could watch Todd work on a coffee maker and still be entertained. It's amazing how cheap you can find a used Sportster with low miles. For a beginner like me, I'd be taking tons of photos as I took stuff apart...so I could remember how it goes back totether.

This is so great. I picked up a 96 Sportster a few months back, and it is my 1st bike. As I really don't know much about wrenching it yet, This video pretty much shows me how to take it apart, with real time video. I know its kinda a fun "lets rip this f'n thing apart" video for you, but it's actually very educational for me. Thank you! Happy New Year! Looking forward to watching this build!

These old rigid mount sportsters are pretty easy to work on. I've had my '99 model since new and it's been a great bike, and I've done all the work on it myself. I know it inside and out after all these years. They are very solid bikes. Hope you enjoy yours!

First of all, Lowbrow, PLEASE don't let Todd leave. He is by FAR one of the coolest guys on the web.
What I wouldn't give to be able to hang around him and soak up some of that Harley knowledge.
Sooner or later, I'm going to buy an old Sportster and do what he is doing, but maybe in just a little different fashion.
I will follow along every step of the way because it seems that I learn best by watching.
It sounds like you are going to put more $$$ into the bike than what you paid for it.
That Hooligan kit isn't cheap, as are some of the other parts.
Thank you, Lowbrow. This series will be awesome and by having Todd do it; it'll be even cooler.
Thank you again and Happy New Year.

Badass ... I don't know why this was put into my feed, but I'm glad it was. I had a Sportster Custom in the days of waiting lists and 5k-over-list stealerships, '99 or '00? This is such weird timing. Subscribed very recently and I picked up a daily double, two for the price of one set of sportsters day before Christmas Eve. One 1998 883 and one 2001 1200, both bikes for $2,100.
The plan is to build the 883 into a street tracker … and I already have parts in route and have videos planned for each piece and day of the build! Should be fun to watch this one come together as mine comes to life as well.
If the timing wasn’t weird enough for me of this video… the 1200 had old haggard saddle bags with a 10mm wrench, a Phillips head screw driver, Ibuprofen and a set of glasses. Feel like I was having dejavu watching this 😂

I built longer battery cables that make it easier to install the battery

Love the Sportster build! Looks like it’s almost exactly what I’d want to do to one. Any chance of or interest in installing rear sets for the foot controls? By rear sets on the Sportster I suppose I mean more of a “standard” foot position. Maybe there is no interest in it, but it’s always something I thought I’d prefer to mid controls and am more used to on other bikes. Maybe I should just look for a Triumph Scrambler. lol Always awesome videos!

There are a few companies making sportster rear sets for flat trackers, also you can make certain Buell rears work with a little modification.

We just run mids on this, gives more stability for off roading. We dont have any rear sets available at this time but something can will look into...

@@lowbrowcustomsI would be very excited to see what you guys would come up with in a more standard or rear set style design for the Sportsters! The few kits I’ve seen come from small manufacturers and use the back portion of the primary case and belt or chain guard respectively to mount offset brackets, pegs and levers. Some seem of good quality and design, but I wonder if in practice the pegs would end up being wider than would be comfortable?
I know if and when you come up with something it will be fantastic. Love the build and your videos!

any chance you have the 100th anniversary engine covers and air cleaner cover still? I could also use the Engine Guard. My wife just WON a 2003 1200S model with 8k miles at the rally here in New Mexico. Im now on the lookout for some of the 100th anniversary edition accessories to add to the bike for her. Yep....maybe that front fender too if you still have all these parts. Thanks!
