    Excellent video and very clear description. I bought a new bike , Shimano 105 R7000 drivetrain and BB86 press fit bottom bracket. I took it for test ride and found the crank is very stiff to rotate with loud friction noise. I appreciate your advise.

    Great vid. When I use the socket to remove the bearing, I put a rubber inspection glove (like you're wearing) over the end, in between the metal faces of the socket and BB. This usually prevents any marring of the BB shell - That's only if you're picky like me and don't like cosmetic marks! Cheers, Johnny

    Good video! Thanks! Could we use a retaining compound to press the bearing in place or the cups?

      You can use Loctite on the cups, but i don’t recommend it unless you have a problem with the bb area in the frame itself!!

    Hi there thanks for the video. It's very useful. I am however having difficulty with this. I have a trek madone bike with a bb90 press fit bottom bracket. It has two press fit bearings pressed into the frame with a plastic axel shield in the middle. I can use the spring bearing park tool to remove one of the bearings (on the non drive side) as the back face of the bearing is exposed allowing the tools teeth to engage with it.
    The other side (drive side) there's an issue. The back of the bearing is not visible as its inner diameter is the same as the plastic axel sleeve on that side. I can't get the park tool to grip the back of the bearing on the drive side. This means I can punch it out! Have you ever experienced this issue? Any suggestions very welcome. Many thanks. Garvan

      The grey plastic sleeve is resting in between the two bearings if you remove the non drive side bearing first the sleeve should come out of that side leaving the drive side bearing exposed.

      @@FreeToCycle hi there thanks. I'll try that. The sleeve seems a bit tight and hard to get purchase on it. Might have to use fine nose plyers to remove? Thanks for getting back to me. Garvan

      You can use a pair of pliers if it’s tight! They can be tricky to remove sometimes just remember not to damage the sleeve as finding a replacement can be hard!

      @@FreeToCycle Hi I've heard of people using a bearing expander to remove the other bearing. Place inside diameter of bearing and use a Allen key to screw it to expand it to grip against inner diameter and then punch it out from behind. Have you ever used these? Thanks

      Never had to use on myself but if it does the job then it’s worth a try.

    Wouldn't the grease damage the resin on the carbon fiber? Would it be ok to use silicone grease with teflon instead?

    • @FreeToCycle
      @FreeToCycle  3 роки тому +1

      Lithium grease is alkaline not acidic, the resin is a macro molecule and lithium grease won’t be absorbed into the resin nor will it attack the resin!

      Depends what BB and crankset you have fitted to your bike!
