Nikon and DSLR camera tutorials, guides and reviews. If you need help using your Nikon Dslr camera, then I will guide you through learning the controls and functions. I will also explain the fundamentals of photography such as ISO, aperture and Shutter speed.
Want to learn how to use manual mode on your camera, I will explain how to set a correct exposure using your camera's exposure meter and mode dial.
Great honest guide...I felt like a fool at first buying my first DSLR listening/watching others rambling on about things I still don't understand.
loved the video!! thanks for reducing the pressure of “having to shoot in manual”.
Thank you for your simplicity I am totally understanding what you are teaching!!!!
Bought this camera yesterday and this was the perfect video to explain to me the basics of it. Great help, thanks
Thanks for this - readily understandable and without fanfare - very much appreciated.
Just got this camera. Thank you. Will be watching more of your videos.
Just bought this camera yesterday. Really appreciate your tutorial which I will need to review a few times.
Thank you mate. Just got the camera and had no idea what to do. Helped a lot!!!!!
Thank you very much for this video. It helped me a lot because I've just moved from a Point and Shoot to the Nikon D3400. Your explanations and clear description of the Mode Dial is terrific. I've just taken a photography where they concentrated on the Manual Mode but your explanation of the Aperture Priority mode is much more useful. Again, Thank you so much.
Very informative and helpful. Your tutorial on the dial mode for this camera namely the D3400 of which I have, has given me some encouragement in order to start learning how to use it in the right way. Thank you and keep the lessons coming!
Really great guide for this camera man it been helping me learn my new camera a whole lot! Keep up the good work!

Great introduction to the camera. This was an extremely helpful video series.
+Darrell Robinson thanks! Just finished recording another actually, editing it now. This one will be a shorter quick start guide for those who don't want so much detail.
Hi Tom,
First of all thank you so much for this video. I am a novice in Photography and recently purchased a D3400. I find that your video on D3400 is so helpful and informative.
Could you also please let me know how to use external flash with D3400. I am interested in knowing the settings with external flash.
Thanks
Vachow.
+Vachow5 I would use manual mode and set the ISO, aperture and shutter speed you want. Then presuming the external flash is iTTL it will adjust its output to suit automatically. If it's not iTTL then you will need to manually dial in some flash exposure compensation or adjust the power output of the flash. This can take a bit of trial and error at first depending how much adjustment the flash has. I've in the past used 3 off camera slave flash guns triggered by the on camera flash and adjusted them all manually. Takes a minute or so to get right depending on how complicated the flash is.
Thank you so much Tom. Appreciate your quick and prompt response.
Two questions, could I use the night portrait mode for taking a photo of like the stars with detail, and is there a mode for like sunsets and sunrises
+Billybobjoemon the night portrait mode fires the flash, so it wouldn't be very good for star shots. Better off using manual mode with a high ISO and slowish shutter speed. Not so slow that it blurs the stars through the movement on the earth though.
Man Thanks Thansk Thanks
Can you please help me get my pictures from my camera to my iPhone I downloaded SnapBridge but it's not working I seen that it only holds jpeg
What would you suggest for a memory card if I am taking videos of a sports game? and what mode should I be in during the game?
+Cameron Stairs any High speed class 10. Sandisk ultra or extreme are my choices. I would use manual mode myself and set the shutter to about double of your frame rate. So if shooting at 30fps you want to be around 1/60, 60fps around 1/120. Select the aperture to suit the subject and use the ISO to get a good exposure.
For d3400 camera 50mm 1.8g or 35mm which one is best for it??
Depends what you want to use it for. You might find for indoor portraits the 50mm is too long. If you have the 18-55 kit lens, shoot lots of photos at 50mm and 35mm and see which you prefer and which suits you better.
Hi may I ask? My mode dial keeps rotating without locking. What can I do to it? Even the settings won’t change by rotating it since it won’t lock
It would be safe to assume it's broken and will need repair. Unfortunately it's probably cheaper to buy a new camera.
Hi there Tom,
I am thinking of buying Nikon D3400. I love to do Timelapse, could you please tell me, is there any built I intervalometer in the camera?
Thanks
+Open Canvas IH no there isn't I'm afraid.
Thanks a lot for replying to me Tom...
is there any way I could use Snapbridge or an app to create time lapse?
What would you suggest?
+Open Canvas IH I doubt snapbridge can do it, you can buy a 3rd party wired remote that will do it.
thanks a lot, mate... u have been really helpful...
dont supose you know or can recommend an attachment for the flower focus ? getting this camera soon and trying to find the cheapest lense for close photos
Leon Arcane lots of good macro lenses around. Tamron 90mm, sigma 105mm, Nikon 105mm. My personal favourite is the sigma 150mm but it's not very cheap.
they all seem like they cost more then the camera. thanks for the advice tho :)
Most decent lenses will cost far more than the camera it’s the most important bit of gear.
Well, the "HDR painting" mode and the "Easy Panorama" mode are not available, do you know why? Thank you for your video!
It'll just be down to a menu setting you have, somethings don't work when you have certain options enabled or disabled. Could be if you've set picture quality to RAW or something simple like that. I can't tell you exactly as there are hundreds of different combinations of settings.
Thank you Tom!
I have bought a brand new Nikon D3400. I am facing problem with its manual aperture. After setting it to manual mode, the aperture works as in auto mode.. But the f stops move but there is no difference on the screen... I have set the shutter speed and ISO setting in Manual.. please help me out...
+Manu Singh you won't see a difference in the screen only in the photo. The aperture only adjusts when the picture is being taken. The rest of the time it is wide open to allow light into the viewfinder.
Tom Photoix Thanks a lot.....
Is the Manual Mode damage the sensor if I take photo in a higher shutter ?
+Mostafa ANSARI what do you mean?
Tom Photoix
For example if I set the camera on 800+ shutter at day time, it takes a very light photo.
Does it effect on sensor?
+Mostafa ANSARI no, you can't damage the sensor by taking a photo even if it's over exposed. They only way potentially would be a very long exposure (talking several minutes). In very bright light. The camera shuts down if the sensor overheats to protect it anyway.
+Tom Photoix
Thanks.
nice
Nice if you thx👍
how can i make a timelapse with this camera...i have this camera but im a little disappointed...actually i am very disappointed that this camera doesnt have a built in timer for timelapses. i also looked for a remote timer but it aslo doesnt have an input for a remote timer.
