The M551(76) in War Thunder is the top reward for this seasons Battle Pass. It's an M551 Sheridan with a 76mm cannon as opposed to the silly 152mm cannon that fires ATGM's. As such, this is a significantly lower battle rating at only 6.7 making it a 1970's tank that fights mostly late WW2 vehicles.
The M551 76 has a fully stabilized 76mm cannon that fires the same APDS shell that the M41 Bulldog fires. With 300mm of penetration it looks like it'd be a good time but most shells will either shatter or do very little damage.
It's a great little light tank and it's well worth grinding. Despite its obvious shortcomings that I get upset about, it's honestly a minor inconvenience.

@@Solanis Ye something like an archery mechanic, where the missed arrows can be reused. If the shell is shot high/into the sky, he unlocks another shell from the wagon.

As someone with over 5 thousand battles in the M41 bulldog alone. I'm very VERY familiar with this cannon.
I did notice in the test drive the zoom on the gun is a bit off putting imo. But im very very excited for this tank.

The Sheridan entered service in June 1967 with 1st Battalion, 63rd Armor Regiment at Fort Riley. 2,426 Sheridans were planned. In the end, 1,662 Sheridans were built between 1966 and November 1970. The total cost of the M551 program was $1.3 billion. The M81 gun had problems with cracks developing near the breech after repeated firing, a problem that was later tracked to the "key" on the missiles that ran in a slot cut into the barrel. Most field units were modified to help address the problem, but later the modified M81E1 was introduced with a shallower slot, along with a matching modification to the missile, that cured the problem.
The gun was criticized for having too much recoil for the vehicle weight, the second and even third road wheels coming clear off the ground when the main gun fired. In March 1967, a 105 mm howitzer XM103E7 and then a 76 mm gun was installed in the turret of an M551 at Rock Island Arsenal. Neither configuration was adopted.

Odd, the reason for two pings is that often Airplane hit pings are late (i think to prevent too easy aim feedback) so you got the critical engine hit ping just before plane crashed.

Tbh when topic of rearming Sheridan comes to mind, my two bets are 1)20-25mm autocannon plus TOW-1 aka let's steal Bradley turret; 2)licensing one of french or british 90-105mm low velocity HEAT lobbers and putting a coax to it.
Seeing that old 76mm on Sheridan is a bit weird.
You think that's good/bad, they also tested the classic 105 (same as M60) in it, and then some years later tried a plopping a Cadillac Stingray turret on the hull.
@@dphalanx7465 L7 aka M68 aka 105mm fro M60 would likely rip Sheridan apart with recoil. It's a great gun, but it's just too big and powerful for poor thing. If you want 105mm, it would be only low velocity, low power guns. So no AP or APDS ammo.
@@TheArklyte There is a picture out there of the Sheridan with a 105; it has the fume extractor in the middle like the M60s--but it also has a sizable muzzle brake.
This is not to say that you are not perfectly right; it may well be the reason it didn't fly. But they did try it.🤯😵💫Could it have been one of the Euro low-recoil models...maybe...but I thought their barrels looked different. 🤔

Pretty sure in a lot of my books, the only description for the armor for this thing is “frontal armor able to stop a .50 cal.” So not sure if the books are inaccurate but they might be.

Hi Oddbawz! You should try playing this game called war thunder. It’s actually been around since 2012! I only just heard about it but it’s kinda like what you normally play but more interesting
Come to think about it. Might be one of the reasons why it was never adopted due to that stabilizer and gears in the breach mount.
I actually am very excited to get this one to run with the A1H, having a premium strikecraft and light tank is a great way to get a crap ton of silver and the A1H with 40 zunis and a 2000lb bomb is an easy way to pass a 10 kill wager in GRB.

You should take a look at the Ki-109 (with supporting lineup). It’s a Japanese attack plane with a 75mm gun. It’s like a duck, but super low tier.

That thing is so fun, you just know that things will be great.
Honestly, it's a nice tip of the spear. Get in gear, go aggressively for a capture point, and your gun's good enough to give almost anything that tries to take it back a fatal APDS hole. Reload early, reload often off the point as you protect it like a rabid pit bull. Long as you can keep that almost insatiable 76mm fed regularly, this will make you a happy light tank driver because it'll get you where you can use that gun, liberally.

I feel like a tank that big and boxy would have more ammo. Maybe it's because of the weird shaped turret and the fact the 76mm is longer despite being smaller caliber so they can't fit in as many places. And iirc the 152mm ammo is 2 piece so it can fit into places better.
6.7 german BR was tough to get through. Getting smacked by jets and atgms in my tigers 2s and panthers is a lot of fun.

Well I use the M41 as my backup for the M60, so this is perfect because the only downside of the bulldog is the lack of stabilizer
It’s a situational tank. If you treat the stabilizer like the low speed ones on a Sherman itll behave a lot better, I don’t think it’s any worse than a bulldog
Ticket bleed in this game needs a serious rework. There are games that take forever and ticket bleed is glacial and in others it's in free fall. I would like to see some dynamic ticket bleed such as your last game. Pause the ticket bleed while you cap or trickle the ticket bleed.
OddBawz i was wondering if you would consider playing the M3 GMC the rank 1 br 1.7 usa tank, i havent seen you play any rank one vehicles but its my favorite vehicle in the game becuase of how much i used it when i was in rank 1.

For some reason, with every other tank i play with APDS (looking at you, Cent. Mk3) i struggle to kill or even pen things. With the bulldogs, however, i seem to not have that problem at all, and i dont really understand why.
imagine if they gave the actual Sheridan one of the testing shells it had. they fired it at a T-72 in the front of the hull, and left nothing but the turret and a MASSIVE hole in the frong lol.
Honestly after playing quite a few matches in this thing, it is a very solid 6.7 light to use as either a second spawn or a first spawn flanker. Biggest downsides are the low ammo count (23 total ammo LMAO) and the piss poor post pen damage of APDS, and since you can't really afford to load any APBC you're forced to basically load full APDS with HE and maybe a smoke shell. Another downside is the bad vertical drive, which means you can't really fire on the move on any terrain that isn't relatively flat. IMO it's still worth it, a cool premium light tank that has its ups and downs.
Problem is it'll be over-br'd to 7.0 or higher in no time just like 90% of other US tanks, where it's APDS will be almost irrelevant due to how quickly that thing drops off in effectiveness when you go up in Br.
I don’t see why you couldn’t afford to load APBC, it still has very solid penetration power with this gun. With Bulldog I take majority of ammo load as APBC and just about a third of it as APDS.
Bulldog isn't limited to 20 ammo though. Even with full APDS you still often run out of it. APCBC isn't the way to go@@Rosaslav

Even at 7.0 this thing blows the T92 out of the water and it still does fine at 7.0
The Centurion Mk2 is 6.7 (for comparisons sake, its also a full stabilised tank at 6.7) and the 76 M551 has much better APDS, far better mobility, 50 cals, scouting, higher zoom optics, most of all doesn't have the exaggerated shot dispersion of the 17 pounder
If this new M551 wasn't in one of the big 3 nations it'd already be a higher BR

arty was not gonna save that match just look at the score board toward the end of the match 2 players on his team did anything other than die and he was one of them practically everyone else had zero kills and was just feeding the other team respawn points you cant win with a team like that unless you get a nuke and have time to drop it
@@paktahn It may have made a difference if he had done so early on but regardless, it doesn't matter if using arty would've given a win to Oddbawz's team. It would've put points on the board and maybe saved a player that otherwise would've been killed and perhaps that player, who now lives, is able to make the game winning shot(s).
@@pauld6967 that is a stretch arty is far from a sure kill and like i said his team was mostly lemmings saving one or two wouldnt have mattered much cause they would have most likely died a few seconds later anyway this game was a no win situation nothing could have saved it because he didnt have a competent team one player can only do so much its just part of on line gaming i have lost matches in air arcade in the past where i had 20 kills with no deaths simply because my team wouldnt cap airfields or destroy ground targets in team based games you cant win without a team
@@paktahn ...and part of being a team means not being worried about your personal kill score. Instead focus on doing what needs to be done to help the team win.
Decap at least if not capture the zone. Lay done smoke to frustrate snipers so teammates can maneuver. Repair teammates or tow them out of the line of fire.
Again, I am not saying his use of arty guaranteed the momentum of the fight would've swung in his team's favor. I am saying he should have taken the 2 seconds to send it and thereby open up the possibility.
It is like playing the lottery, if you don't buy a ticket you are guaranteed to not win the prize money. Spend the $1 and you may or may not win but now at least you have a chance.
@@pauld6967 you dont seem to be getting that even if he did waste his arty it wouldnt have changed the fact that 90%of his team was trash its a common problem across the board in warthunder due to premiums allowing new players to buy their way into higher tiers without actually learning how to play im not saying premiums are bad but that is another topic its also not a good idea to risk getting killed or waste arty when you are in a prime position because positioning is everything in ground rb it is as important as altitude in air battles 3 or 4 people on 1 team can control the whole game with the correct positioning throwing that away to try to save a moron who does not have a clue when it comes to the flow of the game is not going to help your team neither is spamming arty as it can be used not just offensively it can be used defensively to distract and to drown out the sounds of your engine for making a tactical retreat or flanking an enemy most if not all the stuff you mentioned is not feasible in game unless you are squaded up and using some sort of voice chat most people dont even pay attention to pings on the mini map a cant begin to count the amount of times recently that i have pinged an enemies position next to teammate that was getting flanked repeatedly just to have them ignore it and be shot in the back every thing you talk about would literally only work in a perfect world with competent teammates

Goofy challenge idea that *might* make a good video: start with zero rounds. You have to rely on randoms to secure a cap before you can be any use, and even then rounds will be scarce.

I got the Tandem MAI as my first ever premium. Any tips how can I use it properly? I tried dogfighting with it and chase someone down and it kinda worked so CAS wasn't tested yet but can I use it as a fighter and if yes how?
It's not a must, I play Japan but if I ever want to play USSR I will have to use it for some time
Just don't use it. It may be a bit disappointing, but Tandem MAI is absolutely horrendous plane, it doesn't fit it's BR at all and doesn't really work well in any role what so ever
