    I can only imagine the catharsis that's come from this cleaning. It's so good to see so much of your work salvageable and back on the shelf ready for use.

      Thank you so much again. It's a bitter sweet process, especially as I come to the end of cleaning what I could get out of the house. It really felt great to be able to just handle these pieces without all the soot again, and I had honestly forgotten some of the ideas I had for future projects until these pieces were back in front of me cleaned up.
      I had to throw out all the mdf terrain unfortunately, there was no way I was bringing that stuff back, but to have anything at this point is a win. Cheers and all the best!

      Thanks mate. I had to let go of all the mdf terrain sadly, there was just no way to bring it back, but I'm just so glad to have been able to save these. Cheers.

    Wow! Excellent way to nail the recovery from and working through of a horribly stressful situation! It's so great to see how much of your terrain was salvageable, even though the mdf didn't make it. Rock on!

    Great work. Yes the cost of the weathering is not one I would be willing to pay. The terrain would have the scent of fire and ash too. Really immersive. Thanks for sharing.

      @RFDHobby  Рік тому +3

      Thank you so much. There was a bunch of stuff that just had to go to the rubbish, all the mdf terrain was too far gone and wouldn't have held up to cleaning, not in a way that would have been worth the effort. But overall I'm happy to have this back, and it makes for one less pile of soot covered stuff around me. Cheers.

    Hey man i rarely even comment on youtube videos, but your content was honestly a game-changer when I got into 40K recently. It sucked to see your video about your fire and honestly, it's astounding how quick you got yourself back into the action. I'm happy to see you back and I hope life works out stays clear for you, thanks, man.

    It is pretty risky using water on cardboard.

    • @RFDHobby
      @RFDHobby  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting!
      Yeah, it was a bit risky, but the top surface was coated with glue before painting, and I just tried to keep the edges out of the water as best I could. They survived, although they'll likely warp as they dry, but I'll be ok with that.

      @RFDHobby  Рік тому +2

      Cheers John, I definetly have a couple of builds I need to redo, and there's always some room for improvement somewhere. There's a couple of projects I really miss having, Monster House was a favourite of mine, as well as the bunker, and a couple of things I didn't have any videos of. So yeah, I'll have to get back to a couple of the old projects soon. Thanks for the comment mate.

      Me too! Thanks for watching and commenting mate. It feels good to have some of my terrain back where I can move it around and put it back on display. I've also realised I'm getting close to having nothing left to clean from the old house, which is bitter sweet I guess, given that it will be a nice bit of closure, but it's also facing the reality that the sum of my possessions is some toys, some paints, and a few dioramas haha. Cheers Sam.

    Dude, I went down a YT rabbit hole earlier today and ended up watching a video about how they make those India Ink sticks. Apparently they use soot for their pigment. Knowing that, I'm surprised you were able to get these as clean as you were, definitely a nod to Simple Green. Anyways, glad to see you plugging along and doing your thing.

    • @RFDHobby
      @RFDHobby  Рік тому +2

      Cheers mate. I had to get fairly heavy with the brush and cleaner to get to where they are now, and some pieces weren't going to survive that, but the ones that made it through look very reasonable I think. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • @kayb9979
    @kayb9979 Рік тому +1

    The before and after shot of the base with the tree is a very good illustration of how much cleaning you had to do. It would have been interesting to see how filthy the washing water was at the end (unless you just kept changing it).

    • @RFDHobby
      @RFDHobby  Рік тому +2

      The camera really didn't pick up how bad some of these were. Some of the pieces were just stained, others were covered with a thick layer of soot, so I had to constantly change the water out as I went. It was a good feeling to have them back on the shelf though, so it was worth the effort for sure. Thank you for watching and commenting.
