Thanks everyone for watching. There's a few builds and techniques I reference in this video that I've done in the past, you can check all the previous build tutorials out in this playlist... ua-cam.com/video/Tvh1A1GiUEg/v-deo.html I should also have the next video (fire escapes and ladders for this build) out in the coming days, remember to hit subscribe to ensure you don't miss it! :)
I get my Dropzone Commander buildings printed at Office Works on 200 gsm paper, and they print almost totally matte. I do spray a matte artist clear coat over the finished building for protection though. Nice build by the way.
Wow! This is a stellar build! I usually avoid modern buildings as they just seem too hard to make look convincing. You made this look approachable while also being super detailed. Most impressive!
Thank you very much. I hope you have a go at something like this, it's really the little details here that take the most time and effort, and it's really up to you how far you want to go with those. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks. Yeah, the little things really bring it all home I think. I made those trash bags in a previous video. So easy, and they look great. I appreciate the comment!
This is a very impressive build and tutorial! I like the brickwork that was copied and glued on. It looks really good and quite realistic. Thanks for sharing this tutorial as I picked up many good ideas from your build.
I just used a google image result for this brick texture. I just looked for something that had a decent looking scale when printed on A4, then I went to the local print place and printed out a few on their nice laser printers for a few cents each. I printed these on cheap generic paper, and it ended up being a bit smooth, not glossy, but almost shiny. Still works fine, but you might find a better paper to use. I hope this helps mate.
The magnitizing of the walls is really not a bad idea at all. This looks like a Brownstone building and there's usually a couple stacked next to each other. If both walls are mag'ed they'd stick together. Kinda like HobbyZone's modular paint stations
Thanks. I searched google images for this one, the hard part was finding bricks in the correct scale, but you should be able to track this down, or something close by searching 'printable brick texture' or similar in google images. I hope this helps.
Outstanding! What did you cover the corners of the building with? Looks like cereal box cardboard scored and bent in half. Really looking forward to your next video!
Thank you! Yeah sorry for mot mentioning this in the video, it's actually just colored paper on the corners, folded around as you said. Thanks for the comment mate.
If you want to skip a step in future you can just have your brick texture printed on full sized, self-adhesive shipping labels. Faster, less messy and basically zero chance of warping.
oh man! That's an awesome idea. I never even considered that, but I might have to give that a go on the next ones I do. Thanks so much for the comment. Cheers.
Hi mate. For the graffiti I just used a sharpie for the main outline, and then filled it with thinned acrylic paint. I think the trick here was to thin the paint so that you can still just see the brick texture through it. I don't consider myself very skilled at that sort of thing, so I left it out of the video. With some more practice I might go into more detail on this in a future video, but I just did a couple of practice runs on a scrap piece of paper before hitting the building itself. I hope this helps mate, and I'm sorry for not going into any detail on this in the video. Feel free to message me if I can help further though.

That little 45 cutting tool is genius
Thank you! So simple, but it works great.
Good build, you don't need many of this type for a nice city board.
Yeah, it has it's pros and cons this type of build. But I had fun and it still fits with some of my other city buildings. Thanks for the comment.
Simple and very effective ideas put to great use nice one.
Thank you mate. Glad you enjoyed it.
Very cool!
Thanks so much Tim. I appreciate the comment mate!

Excellent tip. I'll do that for the next one for sure. This turned out fine, but a matte finish would awesome. Thanks mate.
Very cool!!

what brick texture did you use and what paper did you get it printed on? I'm getting bad results with my brick prints

I also prefer to use spray adhesive to attach my paper to a foam-core backing. Remember to spray both surfaces though. And spray outside.
Thanks for the tip. I wasn't sure the spray adhesive would hold well enough, but I'll use that next time. Thanks mate.
very great job! :) One Question: where can i find this Wall Texture?... or others :D

Do you cover how you do the graffiti anywhere, pal?

Nice build(ing) Shawn! I can't wait to see how you did those fire escapes in the next video! Looks really nice! 🤘
Thanks Leif. Should have the next one out in a couple of days mate.
