Hey there, Ryan…I am from North Carolina in the USA. My late father fought in the front lines in France and Germany in WW2. He helped liberate the French town of Biche (not sure of the spelling). As a teenager, my family and I had the opportunity of visiting France and I loved it very much. I know that the sentiments of Paris do not represent the entire country, but I hope that the sacrifices made by the allies on behalf of France are never forgotten. Bet wishes as you continue to renovate your home!
United States like every where else is to expensive to live.We hàve a beautiful country, but we are having issues too. Can't wait to hear whàt you have been up to
We currently live in Boulder Colorado, USA. When my husband retires in 2027 we're moving to Brittany. When we visited, we loved it there. Outside of Paris, people were lovely and friendly. The culture there suits us better. I can hardly wait for market days! And the countryside is gorgeous. And the coast. And all the little medieval towns. There's a good tax treaty on retirement money between France and the States and the real estate prices are far better than here in the US! It's going to be quite an adventure for us.
Depends on where you live. Boulder is a very expensive area, my daughter used to live there. She sold her house in Erie that had almost no yard and moved to Wisconsin, near Minneapolis. She got a much larger house with outbuildings and 65 acres of land for the same money. Where I live in Illinois you can but a nice home for 150K to 200K.
My opinion of France? There's no place I would rather be, and no place I'd rather live. I live in the US and I'm fortunate to work for a major airline. So I'm able to travel to France as much as I'd like to, without having to pay for a ticket! Anyway, my wife and I plan to spend 50% of our time in France when we retire, and will be buying a small home (just like you, Ryan, this house will he in "rural France "). The US is great in many ways, but like all places we have many downsides. We were a much more united country for most of my life, but that's changed significantly in the past decade, unfortunately. I fully realize that France isn't perfect but it's where I'd prefer to spend my time because of the wonderful people, food, landscapes and chateau!
From the USA. As an international flight attendant for 20 years I spent a great deal of time in Paris. My family and I also visited several other towns and areas in France on leisure trips. I absolutely love France. The people, the food, the culture, the landscape, the gypsy jazz music - love it all! My maternal grandfather descended from French Huguenots, having left France to escape persecution. Wish I could afford to live in Paris but, I have learned smaller towns are affordable. Agreed. Massachusetts, here. I'm scared to death. I, too, have never been to France, and at 76, I'm unlikely to have the opportunity, though I would dearly love it. One of my cousins has lived in France for many decades. Wish I could visit her.
Born and raised in the US. Fell in love with France early on. Studied French, wanted to do a high school year abroad in France, but my parents refused. (Summer of 1968, go figure.) Spent decades wanting to move to France, continued studying the language, travelled throughout the country. Life intervened and I came close but never made it there. Left the US, as even a simple life became increasingly unaffordable and the society became increasingly destabilized. I’m currently living in Mexico, which is lovely and I like it here, but have kept my French alive and still long for Brittany where I truly felt at home. Every time I see your channel I feel a holiday coming on.😊 Salut!
Once you replace that dreadful window with something more solid, secure, & energy-efficient ---you will never under-appreciate modern windows again. Not saying you'll fall to your knees hugging & kissing a new window, but maybe your first one.
I fell in love with our house again when we had new engineered oak double glazed windows fitted. Cleaner warmer cooler in summer and quieter. Tractors can be so noisy🤣🤣
I live in Raleigh, North Carolina. I lived in France for two years the whole of 1994 and the whole of 1995 going to University in Aix en Provence. I lived with a French Family and almost married my French fiancé then. Of course, France has changed a lot in 30 years. But I always will have a positive memory and opinion of the country. If my life had played out differently, I may have stayed in France. I have been back several times. I miss it all the time. I watch your channel as well as Billy's and Stephanies, etc etc. The whole Petherick family. Sean's family, and so many other chateaux owners. You make France alive for me and keep me from missing it too much because I am there when I watch everyone. Bon Courage Ryan!
We're struggling in the USA right now but we will survive. Never been to France but i see so many things about it i like. Better eating, slower pace, more affordable living etc.
@@melodyfisher1512 How about the Taxes--what are they 70% now?? Bureaucracy is said to be ridiculous--long lines and waits with govt process. I am ANGRY with FRANCE at the moment. I am calling on our govt to disenter our soldiers from Normandy and bring them home. They do not deserve the HONOR of hosting the remains of our beloved dead from WWII, the way they allowed Christ to be mocked in these Olympics. May France NEVER again be allowed to so much as participate in the Olympics again--much less in polite society... (and I have a LONG LONG genealogical history with France...)
We lived a year outside of Paris and totally enjoyed the experience. We would have possibly retired there but the taxes and cost of living put a damper on these plans. We now reside in Mexico where the weather is near perfect with heating and air-conditioning are normally not needed in our area. We are US citizens but have lived around the world in our 62 years of marriage. Having spent 40 years in construction management I admire your decision to undertake this remodeling project. Your videos are an inspiration to all Do It Yourselfers.
Ryan the plaster board with the insulation attached is a brilliant idea for the smaller builds with limited space in the rooms . It could give you more space for your furniture and fittings .
It's dreadfully little insulation for many European climates though. Might be fine in Southern France but not up north. Better than nothing at all in an old house of course but I doubt it would conform in a new build.
Hello, I'm from the state of Arizona in the United States of America. I've never been to France. My younger sister has, and she described it as a beautifully scenic place with wonderful people, wine and food, A place where she would love to live, But that she couldn't afford to. (She visited Paris) I'm older, And a bit of a homebody. I did my traveling, (Within the United States when I was in my thirties) Now I stay home and watch other brave sould have wonderful adventures on UA-cam.
Glad you are still going on with the renovation, great. Never been to France, one day, I live In Windsor, Ontario, Canada. I live across the river from Detroit, Michigan. Ryan, I have noticed that there are good and bad in all countries. I just don't let it get to me, I just thing of the good parts. Enjoy your weekend too.
I'm surprised so many people are leaving, i know that Ryan hasn't posted in over a month, but i would imagine that he has good reasons for that. I'm just here to show him my support. I hope you're doing well Ryan.
Hey Ryan, Miss your videos. I'm in Western North Carolina. My grandmother was a French national who married my grandfather after WWII. I've been to France and really enjoyed it, and meeting my extended family. I really enjoy your videos, and it's clear you haven't done renovation before, but it's a great adventure and a wonderful learning experience for you. I've been really enjoying your videos, and look forward to your return!
Ryan, I live in Texas. I went to the UK last year. I found Scotland and London to be beautiful. The lands and nature are more protected. I love how much they recycle in the UK. You are ages ahead with cleaning up the environment. Transportation is so easy to use. I just really enjoyed it. Here in the USA you almost drive everywhere. The USA has some places to see but getting there but getting there takes planning. In the UK you have everything almost in arms reach.
Hi Ryan, I must say I love the staircase with the walls down! I am from Lower Alabama in the United States and have lived here most of my life. Thanks to you, Billy, Phil, the Moons, Stephanie and so many other rural France UA-camrs I have grown to love rural France and would love to visit sometime.
I live in Ohio, USA, in the middle of nowhere. Surrounded by farms, lakes and woods. I would never go to France, I'm afraid of flying. I haven't been on a vacation in over 20 years. I love staying home taking care of my dogs and chickens and working in my garden. I love Ohio! ❤️
Hey there Ryan. We all over the world have problems. I live in the North Island of New Zealand "gods own". We have our fair share of problems. Our property market is insanely expensive so hard for any young people to buy homes or land. I had always wanted to visit France not just the cities, as rural France intrigued me. As I feel my health is not so good now I am in my mature years I feel that won't happen. So watchinng you, The Pethericks, The lovely Moons, Stephanie, Dan, Phil and Anna and Sean to name a few keep me entertained with tales in France. ❤ Thank you for taking me on your journey 😊
I’m a North Island kiwi also. And follow the same channels as you. Still love our own country but such an expensive place now for young people to purchase their own property.
Ryan, l live in Oshawa Ontario Canada. I believe that l live in the best country. We have problems, but compared to our neighbors to the south USA. I grateful everyday that I'm Canadian. ❤❤❤
Apologies from your USA neighbor to the south. I agree that we are a mess, to put it lightly and we are working now for an improvement in the government. Take care, and hope for a better future for all of us.
I agree, Canadians are not crossing over illegally in to the united states. I have talked to a lot of Canadians vacationing in the united states. I found them to be respectful, kind and very talkative. I loved it. I am from the united states and I know things must change for the better of the people from this country, that includes people who come legally.
Yes, I've been wondering if he is ok too. I just came by to see if I missed anything, and found your comment. Hopefully all is well, and Ryan is just busy with his renos 👍🤔🦘🦘
My Grandparent were married in Le Havre, France. My father fought at Normandy In WWII. My Great uncle is buried at the Beehive Cemetery, in Willerval, France. Some day I would like to go there. The US is beautiful and so much to offer. I'm blessed to live in the Mid West.
My days of travel are past. France, loved it. From the girl in the black bikini who filled my first motorcycle tank of petrol, the food, and the elderly woman who served an innocent youth with a cold drink, then told such great stories of her time in the French resistance. How can I not love it.
My father was in the Air Force and we visited Paris in the 50s. I have vivid memories of that trip, the gorgeous hotel rooms, the ice cream and seeing a fashion shoot in the street. I admire the French so much for their fashion, food, culture, architecture, furniture. I love France.
I’m currently living in the Northern part of Alabama in the US. We have lived in California, Texas, New York, Rhode Island, Kansas, Kentucky, Washington and Alaska in the US. We have also lived in Germany for 6 yrs and Korea for 2. Hubby severed in the US Army for 32 yrs and we’re just following the job market now that he’s out and needing to stay close to where our current Veterans health care is available. We would have no problem moving back to Europe tomorrow if a company wanted him. I miss it every day.
From the USA, Colorado originally but now live in Nevada, I have always thought France is so cool and always wanted to visit , France seems to have it all together, great architecture, people, and great style.
Hi Ryan- I live in Washington State (PNW) USA, if you get the money together and fly here- you would be amazed how beautiful my state is- I grew up here. There are lakes, fishing, Camping and hiking. There are many farms and also we have in the summer Farmer's Markets as well. Yes the USA is beautiful especially the Grand Teton Mountains in the Rockies. You need new windows and frames.
Hey. I just subscribed to you channel. Love watching the transformation. Can't wait till your finished. I live in North Carolina, USA. GREAT STATE. You would love traveling in America. Wonderful things to see. Great food.❤
The opening felt just like a Peter McKinnon video. Also. Loving the hair. It’s so British-French Backstreet Boy in the best way possible. Almost wish the brick can remain a feature…but, of course, insulation is important. And I’d want clean wall space to hang pretty pictures up on.
I’ve been privileged to visit several areas in France over about 5 years apart. I found the people welcoming and overall very kind. The country is beautiful. And I was amazed that even though - I can barely speak a word of French - i found many that spoke English and was helpful in my travels.
Hi Ryan, I'm from the Netherlands. We visited France many many times, We know all the departments now and we visited France this year for 5 weeks. All we find is... lovely people and beautiful countryside. We selden visit big towns, because we love our rest. 💋
Hey Ryan, hang in there, I remember the anxiety you were feeling last election in France where cooler heads prevailed, and I am positive it will again for everyone in France. As I pray for cooler heads to prevail in the US in November. Well done on the house today. Love from N.Y.
I'm from Vermont USA. My family migrated to Canada from France when Napoleon took power. They went moved from Canada to America in the 20's. My daughter spent a few months in France when she was in high school and loved it there.
Gagné , un patronyme fréquent au Québec ! I planned a roadtrip in Vermont, two more weeks to wait for this fun adventure . Love the state parks of New England .
Hi Ryan! I am in Florida currently. I have lived in 15 states in my life! You can find any type of climate or land type in the USA and I love that! France is on my travel list for next summer. I am not a big city person so rural works for me! Love the voice over! Your unique style!!! The hat drywall with foam is called insulated plaster board. If you put it up and tape all seams I works very well especially in damp areas- so exterior walls. It doesn’t absorbed moisture and lets the air go between the wall and the exterior. In other words walls breathe to dry out. Amazing in damp areas. I have only seen it with black backing though. Good luck with the window- 😮
I’m in Washington State in the USA,and I would love to come to France.I like to see how other people live and learn about their culture.I think most people where ever you go are good people.Sometimes politicians or others give countries a bad name, but the average person is just trying to survive. The U.S owes a lot to France for helping out during the American Revolution.
🇦🇺 hi from Australia 👍 I've renovated quite a few houses to build up my piggy bank and finally buy the home I live in now, but it was gardening, repainting, carpets, new kitchen, sometimes bathroom as well, put in heat/cooling, until its really nice, sell for profit (and was working at the same time, for a wage) then on to living in the next mess while we renovated and made another ugly old home attractive to sell, and then again....
I live in the USA, I have been to France 4 or 5 times. France has great food, amazing scenery, the people focus on enjoying life. They work to live, instead of living to work. The bureaucracy is mind boggling, the social formalities can be very . . . well formal. We spent a couple of weeks in the south this May, it was amazing.
Hope all is ok Ryan and you’re just busy & saving up for the next stage. I had a thought 🤔 Billy - “Let’s crack on” Michael - Let’s do it (ourselves) Ryan - “Let’s Renovate” (my £15k house in France) 😊
I love watching the videos from France. You, Billy, Sadie, Michael ,Sean,Stephanie ,the moons, Bordeaux life, escape to dream, escape to rural France. Many more. Love the travels and places you guys take us. I will never make it over there, but enjoy the videos. You should come to Alberta Canada and enjoy the Rockies, prairies, and the badlands. ❤
I'm from the Netherlands. I like France, I've many times to various places. Parisians are a bit hard to deal with but I like the rest of it, people are mostly nice. This year me and the gf are off to Bordeaux, Toulouse and Montpellier.
Hi Ryan. Just another tip: put a protective, impermeable wrap around the edges of the USB planks where they connect with the walls, as they will absorb moisture from the wall and deteriorate faster (they’re not natural wood).
Ive just looked to see how your doing and its been a month since the last catch up so i am so pleased that you are concentrating on getting on with renovation and didn't have time for a catch up rember don't over exert your self ther,s a fair way to go keep well looking forward to see the latest....rember Rome wasn't😆 built in a day👍

Billy and the gang have really been a blessing to you in your endeavors. Keep up the good work in Ruuuurrral France. ❤️
Im from the state of Iowa in the good old US of A. My family are farmers i work at a grain storage elevator and my wife is a banker. We bought our house 9 years ago for $29,500. It was my great aunts house and she did live in a nursing home for the last eight years of her life while her house was just sitting there with all of her stuff in it. When we bought it, the paint was pealing off the walls and smelled a bit mustee. We repainted all the walls, put new carpet in the hallways and living room, updated the bathroom, new appliances in the kitchen, new counter tops in the kitchen, refinished the hard wood floors, and replaced the windows. The town we live in has a population of 800 people, and we are about 20 minutes away from most neighboring towns. When i think of France i think of trees and castles and the royal background. I cant help but think about WW2 and Normandy. I believe its a beautiful country, small but lovely. Those countries in Europe are like state sizes over here, so im sure its like visiting a different state but the people speak a different language.
I am an Aussie and we sure do have beauty, safety and friendly people about. Give us a visit and don’t miss our Blue Mountains. But New Zealand is stunning and if you love walking it’s the place to go. Loved Thailand and Cambodia. Japan is also interesting
Ami correct in having noticed a very lovely view from those front windows? I’m an American who has loved all of my visits to France, especially remembering France’s vital part in helping my country to gain its freedom and independence.
Miss you and your humor. I love watching everything you do. I think you should do interviewing of all the people connected to your channel, all the Pethericks, Moons, La Lande, Nick, Dan, and any of the regular workers and visitors. They're so many people I know us viewers would like to get to know a little background/backstory on some of the various chateau people and their volunteers...only what they would be willing and comfortable to share. Maybe you could earn enough to hire someone to help with your house renovation. You really should be in filming and interviewing. Follow what you love, what you're good at and money will come. Miss you along with all of your other followers. ❤
As an American who has visited France many times, my opinion of the country and its people is very positive. Paris, of course is an amazing city. I have been as far south as Beaune and to Brittany, but I have spent the most time in Normandie and have a particular affection for the people who live there and for the region's natural beauty. I would say the France is unique and does things "the French way," and that is fine with me.
Hello mate, American here, still following your project. I was in France in 1964, had some leave there from the military. I must say, I absolutely loved it. The people were moderately friendly and I had a great time. I had a nice train ride through the French countryside and got to see how the poor folk lived. I don't know how France is these days, it's been a long time. 😊
Honestly, everywhere has its pros and cons. Nowhere is perfect, and every country has its own unique beauty.
💯
Yup agreed. But I will always love my country the United States above all others, warts and all.

Too right.😄
I fell in love with our house again when we had new engineered oak double glazed windows fitted.
Same channels here too! Ryan's a hoot! I just love all of them. Do you watch Escape to Rural France with Dan? He's top notch!!
@loverizzato9081 Yes, I am behind on Dan's so I've been binge within. I'm in Sept of last year right now.
We're struggling in the USA right now but we will survive. Never been to France but i see so many things about it i like. Better eating, slower pace, more affordable living etc.
Ditto
Me too, every word you wrote. I am fascinated by France, all of Europe actually. The old chateaux, castles, all the quaint pretty parts!
Curious why you said "we're" struggling here in the USA?
@@thecatsmeowfromny Because we are, thanks to Biden.
Where have you gone now?!
Rural France Yes, Paris No.
Love Paris
@@marion_k_b I think it`s about prices for houses. Paris is very expensive, like most capitols and bigger cities, while rural living is cheap.
Hello,
I'm from the state of Arizona in the United States of America.
I've never been to France.
My younger sister has,
and she described it as a beautifully scenic place with wonderful people, wine and food,
A place where she would love to live,
But that she couldn't afford to.
(She visited Paris)
I'm older,
And a bit of a homebody.
I did my traveling,
(Within the United States when I was in my thirties)
Now I stay home and watch other brave sould have wonderful adventures on UA-cam.
Good amount of clearing old materials Ryan! Hope your windows stay until you can replace them 🎉
Missing your wonderful self. Love your work. Thank you for sharing.
Exactly, why leave!? To be a waiting subscriber doesn’t exactly weigh one down…They clearly don’t care 🤷🏽♀️
@@juliajoplin4238he’s taken a trip to Thailand.
"in rural fraaahhhhhhhhhnce"
Wow, you sound just like Ryan! 😂
I think France is a beautiful country with tons of history. I'm from the USA.
Delighted to read that you are in Thailand...hope you're having a ball....looking forward to seeing you back at your house...
Have you given up on your project?
Hi fellow kiwi ❤❤❤
Hi from another Kiwi from New Zealand 🇳🇿 😂👏🏻
I’m a North Island kiwi also. And follow the same channels as you. Still love our own country but such an expensive place now for young people to purchase their own property.
Ryan, l live in Oshawa Ontario Canada. I believe that l live in the best country. We have problems, but compared to our neighbors to the south USA. I grateful everyday that I'm Canadian. ❤❤❤
Apologies from your USA neighbor to the south. I agree that we are a mess, to put it lightly and we are working now for an improvement in the government. Take care, and hope for a better future for all of us.
@@Hippiechick11it seems things may be looking up for the US. Canadians have their fingers crossed for you. Warmest regards. 🇨🇦
I agree, Canadians are not crossing over illegally in to the united states. I have talked to a lot of Canadians vacationing in the united states. I found them to be respectful, kind and very talkative. I loved it. I am from the united states and I know things must change for the better of the people from this country, that includes people who come legally.
@wendyyoung1897 thank you. I am speaking up hear as much as possible to improve things. And I agree, the tide is turning.
Ryan, are you alive? where r you? you’ve been awol for weeks. please update us 😮
Do we need to send out a search party??? Ryan MIA😮
Hope you are ok. Hoping your renovations are still able to go on
Yes, I've been wondering if he is ok too. I just came by to see if I missed anything, and found your comment. Hopefully all is well, and Ryan is just busy with his renos 👍🤔🦘🦘
Window is ready for the dump. Let us help you buy a new one, a decision you’ll never regret. We’re here to support you!
Hi Ryan, I really hope you’re ok! We really miss you , and your videos! Please leave us a sign of life 🙋🏽♀️❤️
My Grandparent were married in Le Havre, France.
Your home is really taking shape. Proud for you
We call them prawns in Australia, not shrimps. That was put in for the American audience.
Thank God someone said it early in the comments so I can comment here!
It’s PRAWNS!!!🍤🍤🍤🍤🍤
Yup, shrimps are those tiny things in my Suijmin.
We have both.

Turlock! wow been there many times - hot hot hot 🥵 i’m from southern Cal 😃
She is right! I grew up in Montana, another beautiful state, but Washington competes well!
I am from the USA. France looks very beautiful. I have never been there before.
Sending you good wishes Ryan I hope you are well and happy ,missing you heaps ❤😊
Hope that you are safe and healthy, take care of yourself!!!
Hey Ryan, hope all is well!!! Give us a sign please!!! 💚
Ryan I hope you and your family are safe and well, I miss seeing you
Love the exposed brick! I have visited France and found it lovely. As with anything, there is good and bad. I look forward to your videos!
Hope all is well. Can't wait to see your latest hijinks in the 15 grand house in rural France.
OMG your view from this floor is amazing!
Nice to hear your story. I’m a world traveler and would consider France one of my favorites.🙏🏻
Yes, Ryan.. we miss you !🇨🇦
Hi Ryan, I'm from the Netherlands. We visited France many many times, We know all the departments now and we visited France this year for 5 weeks. All we find is... lovely people and beautiful countryside. We selden visit big towns, because we love our rest. 💋
Ryan!!! Miss your videos!! Hope all is well!! Come back soon if you can!!! 💜
Vive la France ! Our first ally ! From the USA.
Hey Ryan, hang in there, I remember the anxiety you were feeling last election in France where cooler heads prevailed, and I am positive it will again for everyone in France. As I pray for cooler heads to prevail in the US in November. Well done on the house today. Love from N.Y.
Can't wait to see the latest changes, it's really shaping up.
I'm from Vermont USA. My family migrated to Canada from France when Napoleon took power. They went moved from Canada to America in the 20's. My daughter spent a few months in France when she was in high school and loved it there.
Another Vermonter with Quebec ties.
READ your history we bailed eveyone out in WW2
I had a thought 🤔
Billy - “Let’s crack on”
Michael - Let’s do it (ourselves)
Ryan - “Let’s Renovate” (my £15k house in France) 😊
I miss watching your videos! Do you intend to keep working on the house? It would be awesome to have an update post if you can!
Hi Ryan missing your videos please come back❤❤❤
Ive just looked to see how your doing and its been a month since the last catch up
so i am so pleased that you are concentrating on getting on with renovation and didn't have time for a catch up
rember don't over exert your self ther,s a fair way to go
keep well looking forward to see the latest....rember Rome wasn't😆 built in a day👍
Well done Ryan on pulling the plaster board off ❤
I live in the USA and years ago I spent a few days in Paris while passing thru and I absolutely loved it! Planning a future vacation to somewhere in southern France.
Ryan, my husband and I miss you. We hope everything is ok.
From Melbourne Australia here. Been here most of my life, been to UK where my grandparents and mum came from. Have always wanted to go to France since I learnt French in high school but haven't had a chance to visit.
Loving your videos Ryan. Keep up the good work ❤
What a nice surprise. Two Ryans in one week!
Hey Ryan, here from Long Island NY. Ive always love art and photos with streets of old Provance style and country french cottages. Peaceful and beautiful with flowers adorning old world architecture and cobblestone streets. Here in the States Just trying to save our Constitutional Republic. Never been to France but who knows what the future holds. Everything is going upside down at the moment but Im optimistic. Love what you’re doing to bring life back to the old building.
HELLO FROM DALLAS OREGON U.S.A. THOROUGHLY LOVED YOUR VIDEOS WHICH ENDED AT 37, WISH THERE WERE MORE. ❤❤😊😊
I am an Aussie and we sure do have beauty, safety and friendly people about. Give us a visit and don’t miss our Blue Mountains. But New Zealand is stunning and if you love walking it’s the place to go. Loved Thailand and Cambodia. Japan is also interesting
Ryan all the best no wonder your home is falling apart
Ami correct in having noticed a very lovely view from those front windows? I’m an American who has loved all of my visits to France, especially remembering France’s vital part in helping my country to gain its freedom and independence.
Sending a big hug I hope you are all right Ryan. Bye for now missing you loads bye from Lynda hope you are alright ❤
My ancestors were from France. I was born in and have lived my whole life in the USA - Massachusetts
Fellow New Englander here. Blessing on you. May God save our nation and protect our great Constitution and Bill of Rights
August is over mate! Back to work. But seriously, we miss you.
