    Installed a set of Lindy Fralins this week...noticed their recommended close to string distance (1/16 and 2/16 inches) seems to really work better than my usual much larger distance. My cheapo Squier CV50 sounds like a million bucks... as nice as my Japanese and USA cousins...

    Thank you for that, as I have a Mexican Tele Baja Butterscotch which just needs a bit of fine tuning.
    I was tempted to take it to my local luthier, but as I have some of the same basic tools I’m going to set it up myself.😊

    I came to see how you set intonation with the 3 piece saddle and you demonstrated exactly nothing.

      Vintage saddles like this can't have perfect intonation. One string will always have a slightly sharper tone while the other one will have a slightly flatter tone.

    I got locking tuners on my Stratocaster, but my Telecaster has normal Fender stratocaster tuners. I don't twine the strings around too much, i just stretch the string, and tune it up while i hold and angle on the string so it get winded just like a half knot and my strings don't slip. I however like the locking tuners better because then its just to thread thru and cut and have nothing sticking out

    Have you ever tried wrapping the strings over the saddles ' around back and under then over top the saddles again ' wouldn't that be considered locking the strings around the saddles?

    You didn't show any pickup height adjustment

    • @budgetguitarist
      @budgetguitarist  Рік тому

      I didn't? Darn! That'd be an important step. I normally go around 6/64 of an inch for Tele pickup height, and if it's too boomy, I'd lower them slightly on the bass side.

    Don’t use any oil on the raw wood fretboards. Use products designed for that.

    • @budgetguitarist
      @budgetguitarist  Рік тому +1

      Are you referring to my comment at the beginning of the video where I said that this Tele didn't need any oil on the fretboard because it's finished? I like lemon oil for regular unfinished fretboards. There's a big debate in some corners about whether one should or should not use lemon oil on fretboards, and I'm in Camp "Lemon oil is fine" because I've used it for decades.

    Richard and officer Tony, can you recommend a good set of headphones for using an amp and guitar? Before I buy something I wanted to ask what someone in the industry uses. I have Vic Firths I picked up used, but I heard their mainly set for drummers or something. They don't sound too bad but they're uncomfortable as heck. Thanks for the videos and all the great tips!

    • @budgetguitarist
      @budgetguitarist  2 роки тому +1

      I don't think there's anything like an industry standard, but for around $69 the AKG K-240 headphones are pretty popular. I have a pair. They're very comfortable and sound good. The AKG K-271 headphones sound better and are on sale at Sweetwater right now for around $120. I'm a big fan of AKG.

    Hi, did you check string action gauge marks showing true with calipers ? Cuz few people saying baroque not showing true. Example 2.00mm not same with calipers. If you checked with calipers pls tell me too. I’m wondering bareque action ruller does showing mm or inch side true or not?

    • @budgetguitarist
      @budgetguitarist  Рік тому

      My battery is dead on my calipers (I just checked) but when I get a new battery, I'll check it. It looks perfect to me, but it's not a bad idea to measure it.

      I found this too using digital calipers I found a small metal disc measuring 1.6mm.
      I like using it as a starting point for action at the 17th fret on fenders as its what Fender recommend. On a flat surface I placed this metal disc against the baroque gauge. There was a significant amount of the 1.5mm block visible. I then double checked with feeler gauges and found the 1.5mm block was actually closer to 1.8

    Hi I have a different saddle 6 pairs of small screws instead of the three you have what allen key is needed to adjust them?

    • @budgetguitarist
      @budgetguitarist  Рік тому +2

      Probably a .050" hex-style wrench. That's what Fenders normally use. If you go to Fender.com, you can order a hex-style wrench over there for it.

    • @juanespinosa8064
      @juanespinosa8064 10 місяців тому

      You can also buy a set of those wrenches as a set,at Lowes or any walmart, with the one you need in the set, that way you won't lose the one single one, keep it with your guitar case.

    It would have been more helpful to me if you had a guitar that needed a setup so you could demonstrate everything you’re talking about. To have one that needs no truss rod adjustment nor much of anything else doesn’t really help.

    • @budgetguitarist
      @budgetguitarist  6 місяців тому

      Yeah, I know. That's fair. The thing is, I set up that guitar years ago, and I assumed that after all that time, it'd need some adjustments... but no, it was rock solid.

      Sure they do. I've seen tons of videos where they talk about how you don't need heavy strings to get good tone because Billy Gibbons plays 8's and he's got a great tone. The truth is that 8's or 9's will sound wimpy.

    • @grahamlennon4072

      @@budgetguitarist Billy F Gibbons doesn't sound wimpy though, does he? Rick Beato has done an in depth discussion of string size. Worth having a look. Its all opinions though, right?

      @@grahamlennon4072 Yes. When I put a 9 on my high E string, it sounds thinner than when I put on a 10. It just does.

    1) He didn't actually put all the strings in at once, which was kinda disappointing. I really wanted to see that trick. 2) Those aren't 'old school tuners', the kind with the slot where you have to insert the string into the axis of the peg. 3) On vintage Teles, the neck has to be removed in order to adjust the truss rod. 4) On those same vintage Teles, the pickguard needs to be removed to set the height of the neck pickup. 5) Adjusting the truss rod is NOT setting intonation...This guy doesn't seem to know what he's talking about. Typical UA-camr.

      This is how the professionals who work on guitars do it. That's where I learned it from. It's the standard. If you don't know anything about working on guitars, you might not know that. I'm glad to help.
