Basically the whole point of "I have no enemies" from Vinland Saga. You COULD give everybody the smoke and they wouldn't be able to run the fade but why? 1:00:44- Queer people weren’t enslaved but they were killed and imprisoned. There were legal policies and laws that justified the violence against queers. The typical life of a queer person throughout history goes something like this: 1. Marry the nicest person you can find. 2. Have a family 3. Look normal. 4. Die Black queers weren’t recognized until the Harlem renaissance (the first time America engaged w the idea of blacks as artists). And even then … we just now acknowledging their queerness (50+ years later) The argument that black queers were never affected by long term discrimination against their gender and sexuality because being black was the biggest crime is a very narrow way to perceive the black experience as it pertains to attempting to be inclusive. Simultaneously, black queer folks served as invisible servants and contributors to the black community just like all the black men and women we celebrate without question. The black community in America has been consistently at odds with queerness due to our wish to be accepted in a society that has for years denied us humanity no matter how straight our laces may be. Queerness has origins in blackness. I could argue the two to be synonymous
The Black Queer experience during the civil rights era must have been hellish. Especially if you were a black queer activist. But I do agree with him though they were being discriminated against because they are black. not because they are queer. It’s easy to tell if someone is black but can be difficult to tell if someone is Queer. You can hide being queer like many people did and still do. I think that what he was trying to say imo
That history people understand is why people refuse those tropes and why others go SUPER hard into them. Being Black was already a debuff due to how you came out looking, You get heat no matter what. if you born pretty or ugly people gonna install that complex in your mind before you're ten. Then during the teen age years you either pivot hard into them or work hard to disconstruct the BS people did to you. It's why Black people's perspective on this on either side are quite valid. The people that dislike it they do it because they refuse to appeal to anything white people might see as "safe" They want white people to be fearful even they know it ain't socially healthy and might lead them to some sort of a box. The people that favor it because they feel free to do what they want. They understand they're being exploited and are willing to get that bag ASAP. Both sides are valid since some people don't want to be held down and others down want to be somebody's fool. Our people be on the ish yet there's methods to the madness people need to learn up from.

Since most Americans don't know $#!+ about Africa, the following statement might not be relevant to this conversation but perhaps those reading this may at least find it interesting to know that a good number of African cultures have masquerades in which men dress as women. This includes the famous Dogon, Igbo, Baule, Makonde, and other peoples. The reasons will vary across different African cultures. Now my memory isn't air tight and I'm not about to crack open several books for a UA-cam comment but from what I recall sometimes this can be done to honor women, sometimes it can be to reinforce what society expects of women, and sometimes it can be done for some humor as well and other reasons exist that are not posted here. These are all traditions that existed long before any contact with white people. So, Black men dressing as women has been a thing for a very long time. Whether this info has relevance to the topic of the video, I can't say for sure but I like having an excuse to teach people about Africa.
Also, people don't realize that African people adopted homophobic and transphobic attitudes from White people. Before colonization, Africans simply did not care what someone's sexual orientation was.
So many in the comments definitely did some kind of "quick assumption about a video based on a thumbnail without any context." Can't say the "R word" they get super sore.
Even when I was a kid I hated this trope. It even makes me wonder why black men are so infatuated with the idea that they're being "forced to put on a dress," like nah you just want to push harmful stereotypes onto black women. The only time I ever watched this trope was the old Tyler Perry plays on DVD. We didn't have cable, so until we got an antenna we were stuck with any DVDs we could find around the apartment lol. I just thought it was so weird, and not at all how I saw the women in my life. I found Martin to be funnier when he was being him, I found Jamie Fox funnier when he was being him and so on. I don't want to take it there, but once they put on that dress and behave the way that they do, it damn near becomes minstrelsy. The trope has since become rare from my knowledge, hopefully as time goes on it completely dies out. The history shouldn't be erased though, as we have to learn from past mistakes.
That is always such a wild excuse to me. So on your show, starting you, named after you, someone forced you into doing a recurring bit that you don’t want to do? Yeah aight

Because then people who aren’t black, and educated on the culture will base their views based of media, like most people do instead of educating themselves. Then, for the young black girls who grow up watching content of men dressing as black women, take that character and apply it to their lives. It’s insane….

Really great and insightful video, congrats on the sponsorship! Only one comment from a trans man -- the word "transgenderism" is a bit of a red flag to the trans community as it's largely used by conservative anti-trans groups, and it tends to frame being transgender as an ideology or belief system (or even an illness). I recommend doing your own research and seeing how the trans people in your life feel about it too, but most of the gender queer people I have talked to about it seem to have a negative reaction when viewing/reading content where it's used. I would recommend saying "being transgender" or "transitioning" instead.

They assume that everything we put into media is meant as a role model that we expect everyone to follow. They think we want to indoctrinate kids because thats *their* goal when they intentionally only show cishet characters as role models. Of course what progressives want to do is simply portray multiple ways of life as valid, but many convseratives dont really understand the concept of "multiple valid ways of life". We can’t escape homophobia, transphobia, or any type of gender inequality because of the systemic nature of the patriarchal structure. It’s not about giving respect to someone for being alive. It’s about the narrative that these people were never meant to be acknowledged in society and now they are. Men AND Women (and trans identified) perform misogyny, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination due to the systems and institutions of which we live under. We can try to unlearn these things but in reality, they will always be relevant as long as we prioritize hegemonic beliefs
It'll be like that because not everybody can win, it's that simple. You're looking too deep, people dislike somebody because they feel like they won something they didn't even play. It's in our DNA it's how we made it this far, it's "The Beast". It's why like minded people often clique up and ironically dislike another clique that often just like them. Im white. I was a cis man. I was told *I* cry wolf. Most Black folks I have met are not half as dramatic as me. The "Black women cry wolf," thing is ridculous.
I'm struggling with this video because it jumps to multiple talking points that don't necessarily connect cleanly, if at all. Nor do they really ask questions about the "why" of things, just that these are things that happen. Like, what is Black masculinity (whether traditional or non-traditional) under White Supremacy and away from White Supremacy? Can Black men under the oppression of White Supremacy truly participate in or guide their own masculinity, or will those efforts past and present be tainted by the influence of White Supremacy and White ideas of masculinity? Should Black Masculinity be conflated with or treated as interchangeable with White Masculinity when Whiteness is treated as the prevailing viewpoint for how this society works and so much of Black Masculinity under White Supremacy is focused on our sexuality/hypersexuality? Have we as a people truly escaped from performance for Whiteness and White Supremacy? If we have not, then would Black men dressing in drag be more for the sake of upholding White Supremacy than towards the degradation of Black women? And, with concerns towards femme and non-femme presenting Trans Black women, isn't this more about erasure rather than mockery considering that Trans Black women aren't really in the conversation at all unless they are treated as Black men? So why should erasure be lumped in with mockery when the outcomes are different, unless you take to it a blanket "pain is pain" mentality, which then prevents direct treatment of the problem in the hope that "a rising tide lifts all boats" and that a generalized cure will help everyone. I get this is a solidarity video, and solidarity is needed. But never at the cost of a clear cure and clearer targets for which to aim that cure at.
I felt like the title was very misleading. I do not think that this is the most dangerous trope in media. I think that (Drug Dealer #5) and (Crackhead #2). Did far more damage than someone wearing a dress. Whenever a Man puts on a dress for a movie or T.V Role. They are going to exaggerate the performance because they have to. Not many serious roles out there for a man wearing dress outside of comedy. Unless they are playing a trans character
@@Harlem1mentality I think the point of the title was to get people to click and watch. Because he's not going to get the same amount of views for "Black women (CIS and Trans) need ______". 1:00:44- Queer people weren’t enslaved but they were killed and imprisoned. There were legal policies and laws that justified the violence against queers. The typical life of a queer person throughout history goes something like this: 1. Marry the nicest person you can find. 2. Have a family 3. Look normal. 4. Die
Black queers weren’t recognized until the Harlem renaissance (the first time America engaged w the idea of blacks as artists). And even then … we just now acknowledging their queerness (50+ years later)
The argument that black queers were never affected by long term discrimination against their gender and sexuality because being black was the biggest crime is a very narrow way to perceive the black experience as it pertains to attempting to be inclusive.

9:08 okay but I really like what’s being said here? Like how is this wrong? Drag is gender as performance, it’s HYPER gender performance, it’s an art form, it IS a challenge in a lot of ways
You can “mock” women without it being punching down but it depends on your audience and additionally goes back to your first point regarding getting buy in. And I think the best way to do this is observed commonalities that Women also see themselves. But it’s like FD’s vid about femme rappers. They put in work to craft their art (most), while the men are phoning it in (or following the drug addicted emo rap trend).
But what is being gained from the guys and gals rapping???
There were SO many ads on this video 😩 I hope you’re getting every coin deserved. You definitely earned it. Phenomenal video 👏🏾
*Note*: George Carlin said it best, conspiracy theories do not need to be *formal*. You don't need smoke-filled backrooms with evil-plotting.
All they need are converging interests; these people come from the same schools/institutions, exist in the same spaces, and they know what works for them.
The conspiracy is not organized, it's an RPG game; one where they win and we lose.
The way to win is to change the game.
People be like it's a conspiracy it ain't real are often coping especially when it's government related issues. You can tell some people upon high dislike the people they're supposed to serve.
I cried during the naked movie featuring a Wayne’s brother
And then I wondered if it was on brand or not
And then I abandoned all fantasies shrouding the Wayne’s brothers and their inherent beauty.
It’s hard to unsee certain things, knowing their symbolism
It’s easy and consoling to remind ourselves, that we do not know these people personally.

As long as people are social creatures conflict WILL happen because we cannot supress our emotions... Or should I say we shouldn't due to such we will say something off the wall, yet that's in modern "politeness"
Not the UA-cam avengers forming!! Great video!!
When white men wanted to experiment with their feminine side they called it metrosexual because as Billiam said they maintain the standards through white supremacy. We must protect all of us the men women cis gay nonbinary all of us! We will never defeat white supremacy by doing its job for them.
Bruh these conspiracies get so close to making a true connection to issues with capitalism but fall short and turn right
How does it promote the "gay agenda"? If it's "hetero and cis" men having these roles. If casting only openly gay or openly trans/queer black men in these roles was what happened then I could Believe it more but it's not.
Ion know. You gotta ask a hotep or a barber
The agenda is transhumanism and humiliation ritual.
The agenda is transhumanism and it's also a humiliation ritual.
The agenda is tranz...humanism and it's also a humiliation ritual.
Perfection 🤌🏾
@@Harlem1mentality I think the point of the title was to get people to click and watch. Because he's not going to get the same amount of views for "Black women (CIS and Trans) need ______". And calling the video "Black men need to ______" just feeds into the river of anti-Black or anti-Black male content that's already out there.
It's kinda a "damned if you do" situation.
EDIT:
To be fair, there are plenty of "Black women (CIS and Trans) ain't shit" or "need to _____" that feed into anti-Blackness as well, so yeah. He can't really win, just try to make it less harmful by a bit.
Personally it breaks down to people either accepting their "safe" or "unsafe" around some circles of people. Some people are will to do anything to be in the circles and others will do anything to see the very same circles suffer. Yet's that beyond petty race issues it's a legit human issue, some people want to blend in and others want all the smoke

Explaining the joke has rarely been this engaging, great job! I hadn’t really thought about what makes comedy funny that much so it was easy to write off conservative comedians as unfunny when they actually are with the implied setup. Doesn’t make the jokes any better, but worse in a different way.
