@@havcola6983 It gets another layer of meaning watching this from Australia since 2020 started in January for us with most of the country being on fire and the smoke was everywhere.
I feel like Paul is really driving the narrative of most of these, the whole “my coworker is a mad scientist” thing is a surprisingly flexible story telling tool.
“It’s like Christmas… if They had Christmas in Hell.” Heather’s little look to the side, and her ability to summon Soul Eaters and other Eldritch Creatures… does Heather know what Hell is like? Does Heather know that Hell doesn’t have Christmas, and is relishing the lack of respite from Eternal Agony the Damned Spirits suffer? Should I be worried?
I have been trying to find that name of that sci-fi space show I saw when I was in first grade for 30 years, but my fuzzy first grade bits of memory were so scattered that it foiled any true search attempts. I now know, thanks to Ian and a quick google, it was EarthStar Voyager and I feel like a giant weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I am free! Thank you LRR, you're doing god's work by making obscure references like that.
I’m very happy to see more of Heather on this side of the camera. Everybody is doing a great job with the new format. While I miss and prefer the old longer form hustles, I am very content with the show. Keep up the good work everybody!
As someone living in the Pacific Northwest, I know all too well how accurate your lines about the smoke are. Today was the first day in three weeks that the air quality number was under 100 here in Spokane. Also, now I feel compelled to watch a Back Street Boys music video to get a reference.
I lost it when Graham listed the litany of Paul's sins/inventions. "Psychotropic paint" almost knocked me out with laughter. Literally, like, lack of oxygen, dizziness, inability to correctly stand, all that jazz.
That moment when you find out that Earth Star Voyager and Space 1999 were both real shows. I thought they were just making it up for a joke, they sounded so old and fake I had to be sure and so I googled it. Sure enough, there they were.
"As much as I don't want to see how you've destroyed our biggest studio..." "Oh, that's not true. You'll DEFINITELY want to see this!" Sometimes comedy is shockingly simple.
Can you do these more often? I love these. I know they take a while to make, but they’re masterpieces. Rewatchable, creative, conflicting characters, subtle character arcs and great jokes & payoffs. Love you guys
I mean look. It's been years. We have to face the fact that dad!Graham is really just Graham. We need to get working on James. He already looks the part. The rewrite would go very smoothly.
"It's not that we can't leave, it's that we don't want to leave," sums up a lot of people's opinion on Covid right now. I wonder how many lines I can contribute to future-sight. Though you guys do have that Dinosaur Past door. I'm sure Paul could have reverse-engineered it to see the future, come back and warn us in extremely vague lines that only make sense after we're already in the problem.
I live in Atlantic Canada, and we're STILL getting visible haze around here from residual smoke picked up by the Jetstream and rushed all the way across the continent :( Fantastic episode tho; good to see Paul's mad science takes longer than the usual running time of a cH episode to turn dangerous. Oh, and thanks for all the nostalgia references to sci-fi of my youth! (watched ESV on 'the Wonderful World of Disney' first-run, and caught S1999 whenever I could in reruns)
Pauls construction looked very similar to a Chihiro arcade computer. Which seems in character with what the moonbase has on hand and pauls modding ability
-What's that you're chuckling at, me? -Oh, nothing, me. Just Cam's existential pain. -Oh, that? It is rather droll, isn't it, me? Aha ahahaha. -Indeed, me. Ahahaha.
There was Mister Ballsmotron as well, but he was fairly benevolent, all things considered. He died doing what he loved, so that LRR may live. Unfortunately, Season 1 didn't make it. Nor did Matt's Gamerscore.
This cH is sure close to home. I’ve been badly wanting to do the Grind for so long, but, I also want to maintain long-term lung health. Advisory returned today : ( Welp, did find the old 8TB ReadyNAS so I guess it’ll be a week of wondering why I’ve kept every file since the late 90s.
OH MAN SPACE:1999 REFERENCE!.....yeah, weird show. also agree, great to see Heather in front of the camera too. fun vid people, fun vid :) Martin Landauuuu.......
so question time: Is anyone else frightened not by Paul's eagerness to build a rail gun, but by the materials he plans to use? Ignoring the reality warping tech he's built for the commodore crew in the past having styrofoam and plywood act as the required conductors seems more terrifying than the end result.
1:55 - Paul, do you want the framing narrative for classic Canadian SF TVmagazine Prisoners of Gravity? Because that's how you get the framing narrative for Prisoners of Gravity. (pause) Proceed.
I just wanna say I love that Graham is wearing the Humanz shirt from Gorillaz! I’ve also seen him wear his Demon Days shirt in a couple Friday Nights before!

so, I opened Stellaris on my other monitor, and the menu music started up in sync with the stinger and I thought it was still just the video? It was very fitting
Coming back to this in 2023 with the Year of Wildfires, time is a flat round thing.
The Canadians planned the attack.
I can confirm that there is a world of difference between not wanting to leave the house and not being able to leave.
Yeah that particular line aged like milk.
@@havcola6983 It gets another layer of meaning watching this from Australia since 2020 started in January for us with most of the country being on fire and the smoke was everywhere.
@@havcola6983 Honestly I feel like it aged more like a fine wine. In that it's more relatable now than when it was first written.
The casual "Death comes for us all, James" destroyed me.
Especially as in every Crapshot it seems to come for him first.
Omg yes
I laughed for a solid twenty seconds, to the point of tears in my eyes and my cat freaking out.
Cameron is too precious.
He learned that from the friday nights christmas edition lol
So what you're saying is it kill you LOL
I feel like Paul is really driving the narrative of most of these, the whole “my coworker is a mad scientist” thing is a surprisingly flexible story telling tool.
Crazy scientist invents X is incredibly malleable. It's what fuels most Rick and Morty episodes, for example
*Cam slowly rises*
Me: "Wait, Graham's gonna..."
*Graham does the thing*
yep :D
"Please, Graham. I hardly ever release something THAT destructive when we have to deal with it or show it on camera."
2meta4me
The ending is what got me.
i think we all agree that even if blurry, Graham is making the kind of ":D" funny and annoying face

Suddenly relevant yet again.
So was the whole Earth Star Voyager section just an actual conversation you guys had that you just decided to put in Hustle? I could believe so.
Hodor's delivery of the "...if they had Christmas in hell" is on point.
Matthew Geer it made me feel strangely miserable
I lost it at the ending. that was great. CH Graham's reactions when talking to CH Paul is great. It's what really makes the scene.
Heavy smoke outside, raining ash & no Silent Hill mention!!!
Also I can imagine the massive grin on Graham's face in the last scene. 😁
"Death comes for us all, James." You guys are really not good for my asthma. Keep it up!

as long as there is James, i'm quite okay with whatever they do. hahaha.
1. I agree with the Heather appreciation 2. Actually I think the hustles have been creeping back up in length
1:43 is one of my favorite bits from any hustle

Between this and the Shadows over Innistrad episode, Graham's "no" 's are the best thing this series has given us

Never heard of Earth Star Voyager til today but Space 1999 that was my fucking jam... when I was six.
Space 1999. That intro music... Those electric guitar power chords! Bwah... Bwah.. Ba Bwow!!!
mmmh. I too remember space 1999 but not the other one...
Heh. Random references FTW?
I actually saw Earth Star Voyager "in the wild" as it were, airing on tv for some inexplicable reason.
Those are real? Nice.
Huh. The moonbase has been partially reconstructed into a biodome.
Neat.
No it's way better than that shitty movie.
"As much as I don't want to see how you've destroyed our biggest studio..."
"Oh, that's not true. You'll DEFINITELY want to see this!"
Sometimes comedy is shockingly simple.
Graham's smile is so big at the end I can see it through the blur
I would love to see a Crapshot where Ian dressed as Satan makes Ash Angels
Y'know, this episode is pretty relevant right now (Spring 2020)
Can you do these more often? I love these. I know they take a while to make, but they’re masterpieces. Rewatchable, creative, conflicting characters, subtle character arcs and great jokes & payoffs. Love you guys
Graham being extremely visually disturbed by Paul's scientific shenanigans is my favorite recurring trope in cH

I loved Earth Star Voyager when I was a kid, I must have watched that mini-series hundreds of times.
Also somehow I'd never seen the stinger on this one before lmao
Kudos, Kathleen, that was one of the best commodoreHustle scripts ever
I forgot how much I loved Heather's hair in this LRR geological epoch.
I've rewatched Friday Nights 1000s of times. Now time for Commodore Hustle
What is the Orb of Binding, the answer to this is what I seek after binging all episodes.
After the intro: YES, paul the mad scientist! I missed videos dedicated to him!!
Before the stinger: this was as glorious as I were hoping/expecting, man I missed mad scientist paul videos.
And after the stinger: lul

I'm confused, how can your isolation room be cut off from the outside world when Paul tore down the fourth wall? O.o
Well that's where the rail gun is going to be installed. I'm sure they'll put it back together when they're done.
Can we get a Crapshot of just Graham saying "No!"? I love his delivery and my friends also do dumb/silly things sometimes.
The BSB reference, ohmygoooood. Destroyed me. So good.
Pauls construction looked very similar to a Chihiro arcade computer. Which seems in character with what the moonbase has on hand and pauls modding ability
This episode has Kathleen written all over it!
Mostly because she did write it.
But still, pretty funny!
I dunno. All the boys kept their shirts on.
I was just thinking about Earth Star Voyager this week. Glad someone else remembers it. It's not a weird fever dream of my childhood.
It's like The Mist but nobody dies and with the antics of LRR.

"Death comes for us all James."
I lost it at that.
Well. This continues to be a good commentary on the world.
These guys were living in 2020 while we were living in 2018.
Procceds to search "Earth-Star Voyager" in 2020
Every nightmare Graham has ever had, manifest.
Replace "B.C." with "California", and I totally get it.
Always a fan of crazy scientist Paul
I kind of want an episode where the Moonbase enters orbit now. Also I relate to Cam's character so much.
i think you should have cut away at "so phase 2 is a railgun". it's still funny as fuck as it is
I had to pause and give you mad props for making an Earth Star Voyager reference!!
At times like these, there is but one thing we can say: Martin Landau.
This CH was a subliminal message to listen to BSB. Resist! RESIS- *Bow bow, bowow, baowowowoo.*
Graham also forgot the Laugh track machine that gained sentience, laugh-o-tron 2000?
There was Mister Ballsmotron as well, but he was fairly benevolent, all things considered. He died doing what he loved, so that LRR may live. Unfortunately, Season 1 didn't make it. Nor did Matt's Gamerscore.
Honestly one of the best episodes of CH I've seen in a while. Bravo guys, bravo. 👏👏👏
Also, being in Seattle I relate to this episode so much right now.

Yeah, I think it'd be more of a particle cannon.
As a fellow BC resident, this is relatable as fuck.
Now I want to see the orb of binding...
We saw it in the last Commodore or Friday Nights, I think.
Or maybe a Crapshot?
Last Commodore
Gorb is with us all
Came for the Hustle, stayed for the reference to Earth Star Voyager (Disney Sunday Movie FTW), the greatest non-movie movie ever made.
Was anyone else half expecting cam to pull out a knife there at the end
Oh god the song's in my head now; it'll never ever leave!

The more Satan-like Ian's beard gets, the better.
I like where Paul was going with that idea
"Which do you prefer a non-existent laser weapon or a well aimed rock?"
Points for scifi obscura being used. Also loved the stinger homage.
The only upside to forest fires is the AMAZING sunsets you get.
When heather looked out of the windows I was expecting a Silent Hill reference more than a Christmas in Hell reference.
Wow I forgot all about Earth Star Voyager, and Space 1999. Excellent!!

ah, thank you B.C. for the smoke, its doing wonders with my asthma... cough cough.

Is the Studio C "filter" just a NAOMI arcade board that you mounted on the wall?
I live in Montana, I can relate heavily with this sketch.
i was gonna go camping and where we went turned into a hazard zone.
For a episode titled "Smoked In", you'd think it would run precisely 3 minutes shorter.
Excessive smoke and isolation... this didn’t age well
I remember that Backstreet Boys video b/c it's the one Josie Maran plays the vampire bride.
I like the LRRsmen, they're silly.
This was clearly a story episode.
