I think it's wonderful that you decided to surprise your parents. My dad was going to be 81 in June but he passed away in February. You always think you have all the time in the world and the truth is you just never know. Cherish the time you have together and make every moment count. Enjoy your trip and make some fantastic memories with your parents.

7:58 Love this so much! Take every opportunity life throws at you. We lost my mom very suddenly when we expected her to live many more years. Life is unpredictable. Take the trip together, answer the call, say I love you. Every time.
Hope your time with your parents is unforgettable! ❤

I highly recommend the Bose QuietComfort headset. I routinely take 12-14 hour plane rides to Asia and these are so efficient I often have 70% battery life left. Also the noise canceling is the best I’ve found. They pack into a nice tight carrying case that is included. #1 on my travel essentials. I have AirPods Pro 2 as a backup as well

Same here - I discovered NC headphones only a couple of years ago and I absolutely need them when I'm flying. I can never sleep on flights no matter how long the flight is, how comfortable the flight is or what time of day I fly out. Its torture and NC headphones have helped make it less painful. I got the Bose QC 35 II and I only use it when I'm flying. I have no use for them otherwise, but they are still well worth it.

God the last part made me tear up and I might start again just while writing this. It’s obvious that you cherish your time with your father and appreciate that he is still in your life. Get across that pound and surprise the heck out of them!! I lost my father on Mother’s Day morning in 2020 to The Vid , he would have turned 70 that July. I spent most of my adult life chasing and acquiring that almighty dollar and just figured I would catch up with my dad “later” and see some sights with him. I’d trade every dollar I’ve ever made to have him back. Wishing you the best time ever in London with your parents!!! ☀️ thank you so much for sharing that last video part with us.

My last visit to Lisbon took place during the end of a transatlantic cruise. Back then, we didn't have the resources nor time to spend in Portugal. So our visit was short, one day, actually one afternoon, then we flew back to California the next morning. I look forward to a lengthy stay in Lisbon. Hope you had fun surprising your parents. I enjoy your post. They all have been resourceful. Safe travels!

Safe travels. I always enjoy your travel tips and used some on our recent France - Spain trip. Instead of the large noise canceling headphones consider giving the Apple AirPods Pro a try. I used to carry Bose noise canceling headphones but recently switched to the AirPods Pro and think their noise canceling feature is as good as or better than the full sized Bose. Portugal was one of our favorite trips. Lisbon is a great city. I think it is an awesome idea to surprise your parents.

I thoroughly enjoy your videos, as I will be traveling to Cancun Mexico to the Majestic elegance resort one week from today for six nights, and it is literally the first trip that my husband and I have taken together just the two of us as for the prior 28 years, it was a family of four, which includes our boy girl twins that basically are our reason for taking each and every breath Lol but I’m just saying. Safe travels to you as you fly to Portugal to surprise your family who I’m sure are going to be absolutely floored when they think it’s somebody from perhaps housekeeping or whatever knocking at the door and they open the door and there are you are so please video that and do share with us!!! oh yeah, not sure if this applies to you, but if it does happy Mother’s Day, if not, happy Mother’s Day to your mom and all of the moms in your life! Thanks again for all of your informative videos as it’s basically what’s bringing us successfully from New Jersey to Cancun Mexico, “unhinged”, for lack of a better word!❤

New subscriber and I like how you break down your videos. I’ve traveled extensively so here are some other things I bring. It sounds like a lot but packs small….. A mini surge protector with multi plugs and usb outlets. Can be very useful if stuck for hours in an airplane lobby and I need to share outlets with others. Also great in hotels… In addition to a thermal bottle for water from airport I bring a thermal mug with non slip bottom and lid. Handy in airports, airplane, and hotel after I’ve arrived. Also holds more than what the flight attendant will give me on their rounds… Small nice color coded zippered bags inside my day pack so médecine, cables, documents, etc are easy to grab when I need them. Keeps things tidier, too… in addition to tea bags I bring single serve flavor packets - usually lemonade because I don’t drink a lot of sodas…spork and non disposable chopsticks and have used them more than you can imagine… lightweight camping towel because it’s small but can clean up messes quickly…a couple of carabiners so I can attach my jacket or my day pack to my other luggage…a small pad of Post-it Notes… 36” or so of duct tape rolled small so I can McGiver a fix when something inevitably breaks…and lastly I bring disposable ear plugs for others - I snore and offer to my seat-mates as a way saying ‘sorry’.

3 extra things i always bring
1: large beanie - great buffer for my head from plane surfaces/ hotels & hostels pillows, large enough to pull down & cover my eyes so blocks light, also great for bad hair day.
    2. Microsoft surface duo phone- an affordable 2020 foldable phone which is triple functional as a backup phone, media player, & e-reader in compact form instead of just an e-reader
    3. Tiny first aid kit- better to have it & not need it than need it & not have it. Includes various size bandages, wipes, tweezers, latex gloves and nail clip. I just attach to my bag with a carabiner so doesnt take up space

Hi Megan, I’m from Australia and I have just got back from Italy. My cousin had a stroke so I wanted to surprise him with a visit and I’m so glad I did. Your parents will be thrilled to see you. I love watching your channel. I smiled when I saw that you do the same thing as me in that I have a carry on that has a separate bag inside that I keep all my flight essentials in🤣😂. I also use my carry on as a foot stool. I am getting older now and find lugging my carry on all over airports especially with flight connections is starting to bother me so do you have any suggestions on a carry on that can convert to a rolling carry on. I don’t like to use another suitcase cause then both my hands are being used to drag 2 suitcases around whereas at the moment my carryon slides onto me suitcase rack. My next trip is in April next year. I’m going back to Italy and also doing a tour. ❤

I'm taking my 14 year old daughter to London and Edinburgh in the fall over a long weekend with a ProD day. She's my travel buddy as my husband is more of a home body. Enjoy your trip to Lisbon.

As my trip abroad slowly nears I am starting to watch these videos. I have flown a reasonable amount in Australia , first flight was way back in 1966. First jet flight Melbourne to Brisbane. Any way this will be my first international flight and your videos have been a great help. some really good tips to be had. I have sensitive eyes and you have brought that to my attention. Ears is a issue more than my eyes though. For that I recommend pressure reducing ear plugs.

Reading keeper of enchanted rooms…a truly creative novel. Heading to Paris tomorrow for a river cruise on the Seine. I plan to download a couple of anthologies of books so I don’t run out of things to read if Wi-Fi is spotty.

As far as spillage goes, I worked for the airlines and also had a side gig at a bookstore. My company paid us dirt back then, but we did have flight benefits. The bookstore would let us buy books, read them and return them as long as we returned the book in good shape. Naturally, when I bought an expensive book and took it on a work flight, I spilled coffee on myself and on my expensive book...which I still have almost 30 years later.

If you don't have room for noise-canceling headphones, definitely pack earbuds as the ones they give you can be very uncomfortable - even painful. I also pack Hothands Insole foot warmers that I slip into my shoes at the start of an international flight. They warm up as soon as the packet is opened and last for 9 hours. I get very cold during long flights and these help me stay comfortable until I arrive at my destination.

This is the third of your videos I've just finished watching. As I'm a bit older than you, I have meds I need to take during my long flights, so I have a padded bag (a little smaller than the one you showed) to carry only those meds or other essentials I might need on the plane or transfer airport. All the other meds are in my backpack and supplements in my carry-on.
Although I have over the ear headphones, never have room for them, so bring both wired and wireless earbuds.
My passport is always in my shirt pocket along with my current ticket as they are basically the only thing I need to get around, everything else can be replaced.
Also, on my last trip back to the US, They checked all the charging batteries for capacity - fortunately none were very high, so I now pack them for easy access by inspectors.

I have a small Yeti camp cup with a sip lid (switched to this from a thermos) and I ask the flight attendants to fill that with water or coffee instead of the tiny cups (or I pour the tiny cup in that) so I don't end up with my drink all over me. Bonus, I can keep tea bags or oatmeal packets and when I'm in the airport for a layover, I can ask a coffee shop to fill my mug with hot water and add my own things. Because sometimes I don't want to spend $8 on trail mix but I need a snack.

Great advice once again Megan. I carry a video bag (do a lot of video taking) with some personal things inside as my under the seat bag with the passports and such. I do not put a wallet there as you do, I always keep my wallet in my front pants pocket at all times. I disagree with one thing - It would be impossible for you to end up like trash at the end of a long flight - not the way that you look !! -- hahaha. Enjoy your flight and so glad you will be with your parents -sounds wonderful !!

I've been telling folks to carry-on onboard and keep their charges for electronic devices with them but some decided to check them in due to weight and hassle. Well, that check-in bag with all their charges was unaccounted for... so they saved a hassle to get a bigger hassle. 😞
