Love this. I’ve recently realized that I’m a perfectionist. And I’ve spent so long procrastinating on starting a UA-cam channel because I’m scared of failing and feel like there’s no point if I’m not immediately good at it.
Being a perfectionist definitely makes any sort of creative endeavor challenging, but the thing with creating is that there is no "perfect." I am always going to think that a video could be better in some way, but I just have to accept that that is part of creating. We are never going to be amazing at something we are brand-new to, and we are probably going to mess up - but that's how we learn and get better! If I let it stop me from posting, I am only holding myself back from opportunities to learn, grow, and reach my full potential. And the same is true for you! Just go for it, I promise that the more you challenge that part of yourself, the easier it will get 😉

I watched this video a few weeks ago and it was one of the ones that inspired me to think about what I wanted my UA-cam channel to be, and I created it!! I only have 2 subscribers so far because I’m not telling anyone I personally know about the channel unless it succeeds, but I’m having fun learning video editing little by little, and with my channel, it really helps ME stay accountable to working solid blocks of time doing focused deep work. I hope it provides the same for others who need a little work “body double” or want to feel less lonely as they work from home. 😊
Thank you for sharing your journey with us, I am trying to start my channel too, but i am worried about not being that good, i like what you said about perfectionism that definitely has been a blockage for me. Thank you
Thank you for this video, Reese. Congrats on your graduation!! You're so inspiring...I just started my channel at the end of April without knowing what I wanted to use it for other than to connect with awesome people who are looking for something that *I* uniquely can give them, if only in some small way that may feel insignificant to others! But I'm about 10 videos in with 32 subs (been stuck there almost a month!) so after a nice bump to start, total crickets, which is discouraging obviously. At the core of whatever I share, I want it to be authentic, relatable and helpful to me AND others. I talk a lot about my ADHD, anxiety and perfectionism...but I don't think there are a lot of folks looking this up on UA-cam from what I can tell :-) At the end of the day, the idea you passed along from Ali about how the first 50 videos nobody's meant to see (usually) reinforces what I already knew, but I guess was hoping wouldn't take as long because I'm impatient and feel like my results should exactly match the amount of sheer effort and desire I'm putting into something ...which OBVIOUSLY is so not the case haha. Anyway, you've helped me shake off my discouragement so I stop comparing myself to others (or worse, my own unrealistic perfectionistic standards) and can refocus on what I truly believe: that at the end of the day, even if I don't "help" or connect with the amount of good people out there that I hope to with whatever I say or do, me just showing up vulnerably and earnestly and honestly for ME is enough. I'm 48 and spent 25 years in a corporate environment but am only just now leaning into the idea that I AM a content creator. I AM a creative. I do have a voice that I use to amplify and serve others, and gosh darnit...I'M GONNA KEEP USING IT 'til I find my people! Best of luck, girlie. I'll be cheering you on with each video now we've crossed paths. So excited to follow your journey!
Hey Allison, thank you so much for sharing your own story - you are incredible! I truly think there is an audience out there for every creator, it's just a matter of time before you find one another! I know it's so hard to stay out of the numbers and comparison game, but focusing on that is only going to keep us in a place of self-doubt and hold us back . Keep making the content that YOU want to make and being yourself, and no matter how many people end up watching, you will feel fulfilled knowing that you are staying true to who you are. I'm cheering you on!!
Your video showed up on my recommendation and I’m grateful! Hope you keep doing the things you’re passionate about and congrats on your graduation and future success on UA-cam!!
I can totally relate to what you said about creativity! I always told myself i was not a creative person so I decided to create content to push myself out of my comfort zone and although I still go through the cringe phase I try to keep going so I get over it! 🙌🏼

and now you got the dopamine rush of a video getting thousands of views! well done. Glad you put your fears aside and just started creating. You conquered the hardest part, just starting! I used to daily vlog, I made a video every day for half the year of 2016. I had made videos for a few years before that, but never daily. My daily vlogs got a max of 40 views, but it was the same people each time and it was awesome even having that small of a community. Despite burning out on making and editing videos everyday for half a year, all the "sudden" I was a much better video editor! haha. Wish you a ton of success, whatever that success is. Keep creating and doing you!
Hi, thank you so much for sharing your own story! And you're right - I think what's most rewarding to me is the community aspect and improving my own skills with creating and editing videos:)
I was creating content on Instagram and it drained me mentally. And then I started youtube like I always wanted to and boom, suddenly creating content doesn't seem like a burden anymore. Guess should have started earlier only
The frames behind you would make a better visual and energetic impact on your space if you centered them on the wall and put them a little higher up, instead of centering them behind the bed at the current lower height. Also they’re not leveled or equidistant
That’s hilarious, when you started talking about perfectionism, I also looked at the pictures and noticed the right one was a bit crooked. FYI, the center one is also crooked and the spacing between the three of them is not even.
@@reesemadeleinefit Ok. I have to comment! First, I thought the video was well done, helpful, and not full of fluff like many on the topic seem to be. Second, I did not notice the pictures and it would not have bothered me if I had. 😊 Third, I totally think you should have fun with this and in one of your videos pause the recording, change the picture alignment slightly, and continue recording without mentioning the pictures at all. Change them two or three times yet never make them perfect so that people who notice will eventually conclude it's a silent joke! 😂 I want perfection for my creative works, too. And I KNOW I can not achieve it. No matter how hard I try, something will not be right! I like your approach, laugh about it and move on! Keep up the slightly imperfect, totally heart-felt videos!
Please try to do something about your recording environment. Admittedly my hearing isn't good but without captions I don't know what you are saying. It helps to slow the video down to 0.75 to understand you.
Very interesting.. I have done so many quality 2 wheel vlogs and sitting on 401 subs.. you have to be consistent and be true to yourself, and not fake it.. Let it be fun..
Thank you I’m coming back and gonna be more consistent but with only 2 to 3 uploads a week instead of burning myself out like before . A ? Can you grow without lives ?
I definitely recommend creating a schedule for yourself that is manageable so you don't burn yourself out. And so far I have been able to see growth without doing lives, but maybe they could be helpful! I'm not sure - I would look into it more
Hi Reese. Like yourself, I'm a relatively new UA-camr. This channel I've been doing, however, is probably not going to be what I will ultimately end up doing long term. I'm exploring other options and am taking a course.... What I do want to tell you, is that if you want to branch out to other niches, you should start a channel for each new niche. Each niche should focus on a single subject or niche. Because if you try, on the one channel, to cover too many things, you will lose a part of your audience. So target the group of people you want to attract in the one channel, and a different group in a different channel. Does that make sense? Good luck to you!!!
It does, thank you so much for the advice! Even if it's the not the smartest decision growth-wise, I do think I'm going to keep things to one channel for now because with where I am it would be too hard for me to manage multiple.
Super Inspirational.. Thank you I am a small youtuber from INDIA and regional language TELUGU Planning to do similar video!! Just Subscribed to your channel. Once again, Thank you
I can't thank you enough for what you just said in this video. I've just started my UA-cam channel and have only created three videos so far, but I find myself expecting too much. This is exactly the video I needed to watch. Thank you so much!🤍🤍🤍
UA-cam was good to me showing me this video. Thank you so much for this video. I was questioning myself if i should continie, since i started in march only. But through your video and going through your comment section motivates me to go further and keep on working. All of them are so heartwarming. Thank you so much. 🥹❤️
Nearly at 20 videos myself! Defo understand about perfectionism as it’s very hard to get the perfect video. You just have to post it. What program do you use for editing? Thanks
You’re awesome and I love this video! Kudos to you, and I’m a new subscriber!🫶🏽 also I’m not too interested in fitness/nutrition videos I’d rather hear about topics like this and more about your life/journey!
I heard a great song recently by Cat Burns which said 'If there's something you want to do, just do it. Don't let your head stop your heart from moving' You just have to take the leap and if you have passion good things will come I'm sure 🙂
What a great video, you could have taken the words straight out of my head 😊 i've just uploaded my first video after years of mulling it over 🩷🎉 I hope you continue as you wish and your life continues to bring you positive change!
The fact that your voice is all shaking & you still push yourself to sit before the camera and come face to face with what terrifies you, is so endearing. Good luck to you best wishes for your youtube journey.
It's crazy how you say you had 160 while filming this and now it's 2.72k! Wow! I'm happy that you are receiving the attention you deserve. I also just started my UA-cam 3 weeks ago and everything you said, you literally spoke my mind
Makes me wonder if the algo has pref on a vid to get other UA-camrs going. Also makes me think about timing. I’m just a noob and am only speculating but I would guess that starting out and gaining momentum before releasing a video like this is prob the move and then this type of vid will help you pop. Hmm now I’m thinking, can we track subs and see their growth based on which vids? Prob tools out there for this guessing. I’m about to start a channel. I have to do all the research still but fun to think about this stuff.
Hi! I saw your channel, I’d like to get to know your ideas better and also your profile as well. Would you mind to tell me a bit how does that actually works? This selling and affiliate? :)
thank you it means so much when u are small and starting out each individual matters so much. im hoping i can reach 1000 by the end of this year im at 126 right now
Awesome video. I think that the biggest problem with UA-camrs now is their lack of strategy. Like they upload everything straight away, and then they run out of ideas. This business is about constant uploading, but not too many times per week (and also after I upload something, I use a bit of Famester to make that piece of content instantly viral and popular). It's better to upload something like once or twice per week, and it also helps to avoid burn out.
I definitely think that being intentional about what you post and ensuring that the content you are producing is valuable is super important - it's something I'm working on myself! It's challenging to strike a balance between quantity and quality. I think once or twice a week is great to start with!
I used to do UA-cam and then deleted it because people badmouthed me. And today I want to try again. I'm at 34 subs. We'll all make it! The UA-cam era from 2014 should come back 🥹
I'm so proud of you for starting again!! It's hard to not care what others think, but at the end of the day we can't let other's negative comments stop us from pursuing our own goals. You're right - we got this!
@michelerh I'm at 32 subs and have been stuck there about month (I started my channel in April.) I came here to tell Reese she has encouraged me to keep at it! I hear you about needing to have a thick skin because of the meanies out there. It's not easy. But we can't let them influence what we know we can do! ❤
I can relate to your challenges so much! As a perfectionist and a introvert, I'd been putting off creating videos for way too long, but a few days ago I posted my first-ever video! thank you for this.. keep up the good work!!
Your editing is amazing for only 20 videos. I love watching videos like this because I have been wanting to start also but I am scared. Congratulations on starting.
I was OG YT back in 2008-2014 and then I was heckled about my grey roots. Foolishly, I let people’s nasty comments get into my head. So 10 years after leaving, I’m back! I have about 5 subs but that’s okay with me. Congratulations on your channel. A friend of mine recommended you to me. Subbed!
just became #9 for you! you got this! for me it has been so hard to grow, currently at 44 hoping to reach 1000 by the end of the year but its hard to see so much time and effort being put in but not seeing great results and it makes you want to give up, hoping i dont quit and reach 1000
Awesome to see so many new creator gals supporting each other- I've subbed to you all & your videos give me inspiration to restart an old channel I have about Self Confidence Motivation - something I have neglected in myself for too many years! Thank you all, lladies! ❤
Thank you for this video. I am such a perfectionist also, I recorded a couple of videos, but I don't like my English and for me is so hard to listen to them🤨
I'm so glad you found it helpful! I think one thing we have to try to keep in mind is that we are often our own harshest critics. You may not like how you sound, but you never know what other people will think!
Honestly, you seem like a pure soul. I wish for you to achieve all your dreams because you deserve it. Keep acting based on your inner intuition no matter what; I believe in you. I can genuinely see that you act with good intentions. Let go of what others will think because you are the ONLY person on this planet who knows the bigger picture about yourself. Only you know what you have been through, only you know what is going on in your head, and everything that has led you here.
I started my channel in May and struggle with consistency because of perfectionism as well. I love the advice that the first 50 videos are just for you and it's OK if they suck! 😊
Shorts ruined 2 of my other channels and I posted over a hundred on each. Shorts are not long content friendly. Im not the only one that feels that way. I have a lot on this channel as well and most of them didn’t do well at all. It took a long time just for a most of them to get 1 view. I took time off of building this channel to focus more on the one that got monetized first. UA-cam was treating this channel poorly since I started it last year. Im hoping that will change now that Im only posting long content weekly.
It depends on the type of the channel ,person , perspective and personal beliefs - for some people shorts work great for others not- if you believe they help you they will, if you don't, they won't
@@cristinacranganu 😂 i get what you are saying, but the whole believing or not believing is a complete cliché to say the least. Because in the beginning my hope and attitude was extremely high and in the right place for the strategy that was being promoted on how to succeed with shorts, until hit video 90 and realized something strange was going on. I compiled a long list of channels that all stared within the last 2 years that all mostly had under 50 videos and they all seemed to have reached over 100k followers...mind you they are all the exact same type of channel, stolen content with voiceovers. There is something deeper going on on this site and no one is talking able it.
@@cristinacranganu all in all, from me testing out different shorts strategies on 5 different channels, some also including long vids, it only hurt my longer video views and or the shorts didn't perform at all. But lets be clear, most of the behind the scenes is ran and picked by humans, not robots like they would like for you to believe. So I get it.
Great to see UA-cam promoting newer channels, congratulations on your success thus far!
Thank you ☺
To anyone who’s just starting, keep it at it! 😊

I can totally relate to what you said about creativity! I always told myself i was not a creative person so I decided to create content to push myself out of my comfort zone and although I still go through the cringe phase I try to keep going so I get over it! 🙌🏼
You got this girl - I'm so proud of you for starting!! As someone who is still in the cringe phase I can relate 😅 We got this!!

I appreciate this feedback so much! I will continue sharing it all :)
Two weeks ago I had 400 subs and today I have almost 2600 subs and am closing in on 5000 watch hours. It just happened that I hit on a topic that means a lot to so many people, and that I have a lot to say about that topic, and my story resonates with so many people. It’s so much fun and has really energized me! Thanks for your video here Reese, it was super interesting. Subbed!
Thank you for sharing I have had a channel with 600 for a while and started it, never built it up and had life happen, took a break and now I’m back trying to figure it all out again. and now you got the dopamine rush of a video getting thousands of views!

The frames behind you would make a better visual and energetic impact on your space if you centered them on the wall and put them a little higher up, instead of centering them behind the bed at the current lower height. Also they’re not leveled or equidistant
Great Video! LOL I loved that you also noticed that picture. looking forward to your advnture
Haha ik isn't it unfortunate? Happy to have you along for the journey ☺
Awesome video and subject. Many including myself can really resonate with this.
Thank you!

Omg the first 50 video comment is so true 🤣 I’m on 60 and the last 9 are good
Haha YEP it takes a minute to get the hang of things. Congrats on making it to 60, that's huge!
Great message and video. Thank you! Please adjust the right most frame on the wall slightly, it’s triggering my OCD 😂
Haha it was triggering mine as well editing it, but something had to be imperfect, right?
Good job!
That’s hilarious, when you started talking about perfectionism, I also looked at the pictures and noticed the right one was a bit crooked. FYI, the center one is also crooked and the spacing between the three of them is not even.
Yes I am aware. Maybe I should just keep them that way to antagonize people lol
@@reesemadeleinefit
Ok. I have to comment!
First, I thought the video was well done, helpful, and not full of fluff like many on the topic seem to be.
Second, I did not notice the pictures and it would not have bothered me if I had. 😊
Third, I totally think you should have fun with this and in one of your videos pause the recording, change the picture alignment slightly, and continue recording without mentioning the pictures at all. Change them two or three times yet never make them perfect so that people who notice will eventually conclude it's a silent joke! 😂
I want perfection for my creative works, too.
I appreciate the feedback, I'm working on making the audio better
Congratulations
Thank you:)

Very interesting.. I have done so many quality 2 wheel vlogs and sitting on 401 subs.. you have to be consistent and be true to yourself, and not fake it..
Let it be fun..
Congrats!
Thank you!
I'm not sure - I would look into it more
@@reesemadeleinefit thank you so much I appreciate you
Thank you

Nearly at 20 videos myself! Defo understand about perfectionism as it’s very hard to get the perfect video. You just have to post it. What program do you use for editing? Thanks
Hey Layla, congrats on 20 videos! (and for challenging the pesky perfectionistic voice) I use Capcut on my Mac to edit my videos (the free version)

Same! I started consistently in March with hauls and have sold $15,000 in clothing affiliate links and help my audience find cute clothing. Def start!

Same!!! Just starting out here too!!
Exactly my thoughts ❤
@soulstarintuition
Great comment - very true
@judymyers1934 do you have a suggestion on how to use famester?

I started my YT Channel last month and I'm learning alot. Thank you for sharing 😊
Of course! Thank you for being here - we are in this together 💜
Love your channel name!
What I realized that it's really good for growing the channel is posting shorts consistently ✨️
She doesn't have shorts, she still did good!
Wait.. how come YOUR first 50 videos are so good? I’m watching it without skipping or 2x? Love your content. Congrats!!!
Thank you, this is such a high compliment! I appreciate you 🩷
