    This is the only video that seems to show a clear way to remove a hot water radiator.

    Thank you! Im rearranging my half bathroom and needed this info. The only thing different is that the water entrance is on the left and exit on the right. But very informative, thank you!

      Would that make a difference or same process with what he showed? I need to temporarily remove a rad while we work on the bath floor

    But what about the knob and pipe sticking up from the floor? How do you get rid of that?

    I plan to do this and not replace so I'd assume I'd have to somehow cap it off; correct?

    You have to drain the boiler otherwise water will come out through thr return pipe.

    Which direction do the nuts turn for removal? And did you apply any penetrating liquid beforehand?

    Did you put the same Rad back on? I'm going to be refinishing some of mine in our house and I'm hoping it's just as simple to get it back on.

      I did. Just make sure that you drain the lines and put caps on the open pipes. The caps are in case there is trapped air and water somewhere in the lines above. Some water came out and this would have not happened if I had put caps on the open pipes. So go get some caps first before you do anything unless you know for sure that all the water is drained.

    Is that thing really heavy for one guy to move by himself?

    Interesting, the return pipe is on the same end as the feed?

    How do you cut off the water supply without going to the boiler room? I live in an old building and the radiator stays hot 🥵 every day from fall to spring. I was told by management that the radiators are broken and they don’t have an engineer to fix it. So what would you suggest?

    Hi, Mike, I lost you at going down to turn off the water. That's where I always get confused. Now do you mean to turn off the water supply going to the boiler or furnace, I'm not sure if they are the same thing. Or is it the water coming fro the boiler to the radiators. Als I heard that you have to do a second and third step and that is opening the tap at the bottom of the boiler with a garden hose attached to drain the whole house system And third switch off the electric power switch to the boiler. And if all of those things have to be done for the removal, what is then the sequence of steps when reinstalling that same radiator including that small little square valve on top of the radiator.
    The physical steps required for the removal are not confusing at all for me, it's all the seemingly insignificant stuff, that's usually when all of the problems with the other radiators in the system occur from my dyslexic experience. Thanks, Mike.

      Ya, you need to drain the whole system, unfortunately. Garden hose to the basement drain if you have one. Once it is fully empty then you can take it off. I was lucky and didn't have a giant flood when I took it off but I could have easily been greeted with a deluge of disgusting water.

      You can also buy caps and I would recommend you cap it off just in case there is water still in the system just getting ready to pop.

      Hi mike thanks , I really couldn't care about how many steps . My issue is about the sequence of steps. And I can't get two opinions that match. Even in a major show called this old house you can tell that the guy is trying to make it sound really simple by saying , 'after you drain the radiator." Etc .No mention at all or emphisising that each and every bleeder needs to be open. Nor the sequence nor the sequence afterwards. These shows seem to be made to get as many eyeballs as opposed to telling the real facts. Oh well, maybe there's an opportunity for a killer video to properly solve the problem. Thanks for getting back through.

  • @tedtiberio582
    @tedtiberio582 4 роки тому

    wait... so i didn't have to drain my entire system? you just shut the valve and open the bleeder?

    • @minor25
      @minor25 4 роки тому

      yes but some valve don't close all the way so they will leak

    • @michaelbrown4447
      @michaelbrown4447  5 років тому +1

      No mold. Just residue from the water that escaped.

    • @michaelbrown4447

      And old glue from the laminate that was on the floor previously

    It would have been more helpful if you had actually showed how you removed it instead of after removing.

      I didn't think to record the process. It would have been better but I thought to make the video after.
