I was in the marines, and this is probably the most accurate video i've seen lately(even though it wasn't in order). I kinda miss bootcamp, it wasn't fun at the time but looking back now it was fun. Bootcamp is mostly drill, a lot of walking, half of bootcamp is the hiking stuff, and then the least we did was that exercise course. The crucible wasn't hard at all (this is coming from the shit recruit in the garbage platoon), it was actually really fun (even at the time), you get sick and at the reaper as long as you take small quick steps it's easy. Throw away your pride at the shooting range and act like you've never touched a gun before, that way you'll be an expert. If you aren't religious and you've written all your letters and stuff, go to the buddhist service on sunday, it's really calm and they dont preach (also they have marines who just graduated give advice). If you are thinking about joining I suggest you ask yourself why and if you are doing it for you and not anyone else then go for it. Also get good at running, forget about the pull ups and sit ups if you can pass those before going into bootcamp then you'll get better at them by the end. I also suggest to keep a journal so you can look back at how you felt (trust me you'll want to remember the feeling). When you get IT'd (also called quarterdeck'd) act like it doesn't hurt at all, be loud and show no pain, eventually the DIs will stop ITing you because it doesn't affect you and wouldn't be a punishment (which will make bootcamp ALOT easier). You'll also like your senior DI (they are usually nice). So if you are going in, don't be afraid and don't get mad at someone because they got you in trouble (the DIs have a schedule and sometimes on the schedule they have things like "kill everyone @ 1400" and at that time they are looking for someone to fuck up to get everyone in trouble [I've found a couple of DI schedules before]). Help your fellow recruit (doing stuff like that will get you promoted) and remember that you are a team! :D Good luck!
Xxepic_killzxX I would tell him to wait until he is 19 to join or gets a degree, that way he has several choices in life by then and if he has a degree and joins the marines he can be an officer.
Ricardo Ramirez swim qual was easy, learn to swim though, you don't need to be an awesome swimmer, they are just going to see if you can swim with boots on then you pass, you can try to get a higher score but it's not nnecessary
+EpicKillz don't listen to the guy who says wait till 19 let him join ASAP if he wants too. 17 is the soonest. that way he can get the GI Bill then get a degree.
6 days... 2nd Battalion, Fox Company. I'm so ready This video was really good to see. It showed some things the other videos don't. I had no idea there would be another bus unloading recruits after a platoon had already formed up on the yellow footprints.
Well, the funny thing about it is, when you're actually doing the things you dreamed about because it seemed so cool, it's not even that fun. It's just another day at work and they always find a way to make anything that could be cool and enjoyable, absolutely miserable. I have a love hate relationship with the marine corps. No regrets, but I don't always enjoy it.
For bootcamp? Speed, volume, and intensity. Also, just know it's gonna be hard emotionally. I shut that part of my brain off and kind of just went with the flow and it made it a bit easier. Everyone is different though, and I certainly wasn't the best recruit. There's no way to prepare for how stupid the Marine Corps can be once you're past boot camp so be mindful of that. Everyone loses their motivation eventually
a friend and I had to go to rehab well we were in the marines and I failed a drug test guess what they found fucking caffeine from the coffee I drank the morning before the drug test in rehab we were treat like shit because when we went there we had group and when we told every one why we were their they just laughed
Today I got ahold of this marine recruiter and ever since I was a kid I wanted to become a marine. I'm praying I make it in( I've been in some trouble in the past but I was honest about it) it's my dream to become a marine. Ik it sounds stupid but I want to fight. I want to serve and fight till my dying breath. I want to live my destiny and it's the only dream/goal that hasn't been taken away from me.
I have spent several years as a marine rifleman. I've deployed twice to Afghanistan in Marjah, and once on a UDP to Japan and the Pacific. If you're thinking about joining the marine corps, PLEASE do not base your decisions off of the advertisements and recruiting videos you see all over the place. Feel free to message me, and I'll do the best I can to respond. MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY before going to the recruiter, and think very carefully about what you want to do once you are in. PLEASE MESSAGE ME if you want to know anything. I want to help. I'm not going to badmouth the MC or anything, just want to stress being VERY CAREFUL about making this extremely important choice.
Marshall Dan , Hey Dan if thats alright if I call you by that? I want to enter the Marines but I just wanna know what it's really like, not what the recruiters just say. Also if there's any tips on what I should do to see that I'm ready to enlist. Also any on becoming or trying for scout sniper?
You can call me whatever you want, no problem. I'll start with the easiest topic to answer, becoming a scout sniper needs to be done through your unit. Enlisting as a recon marine, an 0321, will improve your chances, but it can be done in any infantry unit. (Recon is very hard to get into.) The 0300 MOS is enough. You will have to take an indoc, kind of like a mini boot camp geared toward snipers. There are some prerequisites, most of which you can find here. www.leatherneck.com/forums/showthread.php?70637-Scout-Sniper-Recon-MARSOC-Information I am an 0311, and have been for the past 3 1/2 years. I have not enjoyed my time in the marine corps, it's put a lot of strain on my family and myself, especially during my deployments to Afghanistan. You will be waking up at 5:30 every weekday morning, sharing a room the size of an average hotel room with 2 other people, cleaning the room to someone else's standards, etc. You will spend a LOT of your time waiting. Sometimes your time will be wasted, whether it's a lot or a little depends on how good your leadership is. Every unit is very different, but usually you'll find that the more senior lance corporals will end up teaching you everything you need to know. You will also make good friends, if you can earn their respect, and gain a lot of memories that will stay with you the rest of your life, some good, some bad. All in all, I do not regret being an infantry marine, but I would not do it again. It's a hard life. If you've got any more questions or want to know about anything else, lay it on me. I'm an open book, and I'd like to see you and every other potential marine know what they're doing before they sign the enlistment papers at MEPS.
Thank you sir. This information is really an eye opener on seeing what I need and to improve on. Another thing, how fit do I need to be? Overall I can do 24 pull ups, able to do 70 crunches in two minutes, and able to run three miles. Also rate on my current progress. For Recon Marines, what should I do in preparations? I want to know if I have to be some what pain tolerant to hand to hand combat and during boot camp as well? I spar with a buddy of mine, and basically I'm getting use to hits on body and head without headgear to try and toughen me up, but wondering if that is really good for me or not? Thanks for answering this and giving the time, I also like to thank you for serving and doing what you really didn't have to do.
Nearly everyday after school, when I go to hang out with my dad who works for UPS at the airport, I always see this place in the distance. It amazes me how it's dead-center in the city...
I could imagine. And with us being so close, I think it's where I'm heading to when I sign up, so I'll know the feeling. I can even hear them yelling cadences while they're running.

I've been an 0311 for nearly 4 years now. I'm just about to finish my enlistment. I've deployed multiple times to Afghanistan, my most recent deployment being a UDP that took me around the pacific. If you want to know ANYTHING, please message me. Do not decide to go to boot camp until you have considered VERY CAREFULLY what you want out of your time in the MC, and what you're going to do. A lot of guys get in and end up unhappy with their time in, it's very common. Please be careful and message me if you want to know anything. I'd love to help.
I was the guide and we got a perfect score on final drill....di,s let us do a talent show that night and we made fun of a bunch of di,s in our co. Best night of my life
This seems just a little bit less intense then when I went through. But then again every one says that and videos don't exactly show everything. But it looks close!
the marine corp boot camp I went to we had to run a mountain and out of no where one eyed pete came flying down dead in between a mattress because he told sarg that some one else took fruit from the bowl that guy was a dick
Went through in 09, looks pretty much the same for the most part... and sounds the same.. Some of these clips must be older because I know recruits dont use those war belts in drill anymore and stuff. I used those ones but Iv seen videos of them using fancy new ones. also they dont use M16A2's they have M16A4's with Acogs.. Good times ahah

TaKevinT Hey man I was being a smart ass in my reply :) I went through MCRD San Diego back in 1994, the Marines were the best 4 years of my life as I look back on my life thus far, YUT! Your info on what somebody should bring to boot camp is good sound advice. I hope somebody see's your advice and it helps them. The only ones with games in boot camp were the DI's. I heard this DI quote at MCRD San Diego "I've got more games than Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers, we're gonna have fun"
I have tattoos on my forearm that can't be completely covered by my hand. They're not considered offensive, but I hope I can get the waiver for them and enlist.
I'm 13 and I want to be a marine when I get out of High School. My plan is to go to ROTC in High School then go to the marines and earn a collage education there. In scared about the DI's and Basic Training. I know I'm going to be going to San Diego for BT. But any tips from former Marines?
get lots of sleep before basic training because sometimes you will be awake for 24-72 hrs. work out a lot like running, pull ups and push ups and drink alot of water and eat healthy. that is what i was told from my recruiter.
if you're scared of the DI's then imagine what you wouldn't be scared of in Combat, if you were to chose an 0311 MOS, Marine Corps Drill Instructors are meant to be intimidating and made to yell at you as well as to put you through stress for your own good, they are preparing you for combat, while in combat there will be a ton of yelling and stressful situation, I guarantee when your out of BC you will understand why your DI's did what they did, and you will thank your DI at graduation for transforming you into a US Marine.
Boot camp is gonna kick your butt no matter what, but to make it less painful, get in shape and get healthy before you go! The formal education you'll get should only a small fraction of why you want to join, and always remember that every Marine went through boot camp.
me and my rotc unit got to go to paris island for a week to see what boot camp is like. it's okay to be scared but don't take this advice serious cuz our was crazy but was watered down. but your going to get yelled at and shit but ask a recruiter but they may lie to you a tad bit
Yes if you need prescription eye wear the military (all services) will issue you two sets of ugly government issue glasses that have been lovingly called BCG's or birth control glasses since the beginning of time. I wore glasses to boot camp and left my contact lenses at home when I did Marine basic at San Diego. Had a Drill Instructor call me "Portholes" one time, lol!
Raul Corrales with cameras they're probably more relaxed if that's what you call this😂. Once the cameras go off it's a whole different world from what I've heard.
They have moments, some like you see on camera others totally insane and brutal, they have no conscience when it comes to you as an individual who is tired, sore, sad or going through it emotionally cause of them, that is part of the phycological training going on most dont even realize, its called desensitization, being a trained killer isnt a good job for someone with a conscience, its there job to turn you into something totally different than you were before joining, a trained, programmed, confident, highly effective asset to a team of warriors, i had a drill sgt. that used to say "you will be treated accordingly buy your level of determination and dedication"
+Billy Bob Yes. It may restrict what jobs you qualify for though. But you certainly can join with glasses. Ask a recruiter about the specific job (MOS) you are interested in.
daniel grijalba Actually, the answer is NO. You can't go in if you have asthma as far as I know. If you need to go in to the gas chamber and you get out and have an asthma attack, you're fucked bro. If they know you've got asthma, I'm sure you ain't getting in.
does anyone know the eyesight requirement for joining the marines? im in mcjortc and ive always wanted to be a marine since i was 9 years old but i need to know if my eyesight will be a problem
+CyberBully In the Marine Corps Cammie colors go by the seasons fall and winter months its usually woodlands in garrison and so on.. For operations its for the different terrain. in boot camp its simply whatever they make you get dressed in... Usually if you are in boot camp in the summer months they will make you wear your woodlands for the getting dirty. so when you are marching and learning drill you will look good in the uniform of the day.
ava thomas Yes, they can... they will push women harder than men though. I'm pretty sure the reason for that is that women don't tolerate as much as often as men. So I have been told. not sure though.
cypressgold yeah I know for a fact that woman can do certain combat jobs. I know some woman who do field artillery. Combat engineering sounds interesting by the way.
butteredbread100 No? Woman in the USMC have infantry jobs... it's just not that comman to have woman actually join. I was at the recruitment building where the US military in my area do first time physicals and other screening... only 4 women out of about 500 enlistees.

Xxepic_killzxX I would tell him to wait until he is 19 to join or gets a degree, that way he has several choices in life by then and if he has a degree and joins the marines he can be an officer.

Interesting noting the differences between nations. The USMC is by far the more physical, aggressive basic training. In my country the focus is more regimental.
In my country basic training is basic training, which is followed by corps training.
+Anthany Credit noooo, what in the fuck is your drunk ass talking about. you go to boot. then you got to your MOS school. fuck. boot is basic for marines
this is b-roll shot on different days. It is not chronological.
How did you get permission to shoot at MCRD?
***** But you're also not allowed in the recruit training area.
15:36 He is so cool :) I wish I lived in America so I could join the Marine Corps.
I'll probably be going here. :)

You're there to become a Marine not play around :)

Hey man I was being a smart ass in my reply :) I went through MCRD San Diego back in 1994, the Marines were the best 4 years of my life as I look back on my life thus far, YUT!
Ahahah! Oh sht
Thanks for your Service
Im just a poolee with some knowledge, helping out others seeking to join and stuff
Man it seems like MCRD San Diego has changed a lot since this was filmed! Although I noticed that the same lady is still giving haircuts haha.
They don't even use the M14 rifle in training anymore?
butteredbread100 Really? It just looks odd with the modern day rifles in training for some reason.
September 22nd
I want to join the marines, I just don't know where to get started
just talk to a recruiter. they will give you all the info that you need
September 3rd
There's always that one guy with a mop on his head lol Did anyone tell him that maybe it would be a good idea to shave his hair thinner!?
I want to join but im not 100% sure what I'd be getting myself into. Im doing as much research as I can....
Its a lifestyle; not a job. The sooner you realize/accept that, the better your decisions will be on the subject matter.
join because you wanna better yourself and serve your country. Not for money or looking cool
I have tattoos on my forearm that can't be completely covered by my hand. They're not considered offensive, but I hope I can get the waiver for them and enlist.
probably can't enlist if it's on your arm

if you're scared of the DI's then imagine what you wouldn't be scared of in Combat, if you were to chose an 0311 MOS, Marine Corps Drill Instructors are meant to be intimidating and made to yell at you as well as to put you through stress for your own good, they are preparing you for combat, while in combat there will be a ton of yelling and stressful situation, I guarantee when your out of BC you will understand why your DI's did what they did, and you will thank your DI at graduation for transforming you into a US Marine.
Me too Im 13 and also want to join the marines
Boot camp is gonna kick your butt no matter what, but to make it less painful, get in shape and get healthy before you go! The formal education you'll get should only a small fraction of why you want to join, and always remember that every Marine went through boot camp.
me and my rotc unit got to go to paris island for a week to see what boot camp is like. it's okay to be scared but don't take this advice serious cuz our was crazy but was watered down. but your going to get yelled at and shit but ask a recruiter but they may lie to you a tad bit
I am so scared for my boyfriend......
it's been a year now. how did he do?
do they issue you glasses there?
Yes if you need prescription eye wear the military (all services) will issue you two sets of ugly government issue glasses that have been lovingly called BCG's or birth control glasses since the beginning of time. I wore glasses to boot camp and left my contact lenses at home when I did Marine basic at San Diego. Had a Drill Instructor call me "Portholes" one time, lol!
That clapping ditty has to be that lamest thing I've ever heard.
k. go become a marine,then we'll talk
Well I am a Marine so...
+MrCrazyshots company?
+twopoint Takedown are you even a marine? I've seen you comment all over this video.
XXTOBAD4HELLXX I'm a poolee and it may seem crazy but I have freedom to comment as much as I want.
I want to be a marine and want to get some basic workouts together before I leave, any tips?
run, pull ups, sit ups everyday
at 9:00 is that the SDI inspection?
Looks easier for some reason! Is it just me or is it a DI front for the camera?
Have things changed at MCRD San Diego since then?
Seemed the same to me.
It shouldent easier because then soldiers are going to become weaker
JoeThe Pandaa Marines aren't soldiers.
Could I join if I have glasses?
+Billy Bob Yes. It may restrict what jobs you qualify for though. But you certainly can join with glasses. Ask a recruiter about the specific job (MOS) you are interested in.
Thanks Solano_03
I'm a girl and I'm thinking of joining the marines, I was wondering if you could give me some useful tips of how to survive marine boot camp
It'll suck but most people can do it if they want to. You just have to be able to be mature enough to deal with extreme suckiness.
Well I wish you luck and Semper Fi. Im also enlisting in the Marines as well. So far so good with my recruiter. Thanks.
Brook Mendes I know you can make it. Never give up. Semper Fi.
I got asthma by any chance can i still join please need answers
Yes there's a sh!t load of ppl who have asthma including myself
Quintavious Carter thanx bro
daniel grijalba Actually, the answer is NO. You can't go in if you have asthma as far as I know. If you need to go in to the gas chamber and you get out and have an asthma attack, you're fucked bro. If they know you've got asthma, I'm sure you ain't getting in.
I've always wondered do marines and soldiers get their hair cut because of hand to hand fighting? So the enemy and or opponent can't grab their hair?
No it's like a pass the only way to identify them as a soilder is do get that hair cut
It's both mental and physical. It makes everyone look and feel exactly the same. Your no longer an individual but a team.
And it cuts down on lice and ticks and such.
Lol nice theory though
it's to create a team bond. everyone looks the same
Half of these kids won't make it
I dunno. The Marines have a fairly high graduation rate.
25% drop out and graduate later. everyone makes it eventually if you dont give up
Who are the guys in the yellow shirts
The drill instructors.
Do you have a higher chance to deploy in the marines then any other branch?
marines are alway the first ones to get sent into a battle so yes you'll be the first ones getting deployed
Harold Tavarez No. you can be infantry and not even deploy once. It all depends.
What Company is this?
How come the DI in time 4:02 has a sleeve tattoo.
He's not a recruit. He can have as many tattoos as he wants.
does anyone know the eyesight requirement for joining the marines? im in mcjortc and ive always wanted to be a marine since i was 9 years old but i need to know if my eyesight will be a problem
They will give you the virgin goggles
You should be fine. The only thing that can disqualify you is if you have really bad astigmatism.
What are they saying in the background?
There other platoons getting instructed in the background.
In place double time oorah marine corps
So it is your choice to drop out? Or do they make that choice for you ? What do you mean have those boys won't make it? Rough
golf company
Oorah
Why do some wear desert and others woodland?
+CyberBully In the Marine Corps Cammie colors go by the seasons fall and winter months its usually woodlands in garrison and so on.. For operations its for the different terrain. in boot camp its simply whatever they make you get dressed in... Usually if you are in boot camp in the summer months they will make you wear your woodlands for the getting dirty. so when you are marching and learning drill you will look good in the uniform of the day.
Can women be in the military? Cause I wanna join when I grow up...
ava thomas Yes, they can... they will push women harder than men though. I'm pretty sure the reason for that is that women don't tolerate as much as often as men. So I have been told. not sure though.
shizle Hizle Uh... no? My aunt was a combat engineer... She went on patrols during desert storm.
cypressgold yeah I know for a fact that woman can do certain combat jobs. I know some woman who do field artillery. Combat engineering sounds interesting by the way.
butteredbread100 No? Woman in the USMC have infantry jobs... it's just not that comman to have woman actually join. I was at the recruitment building where the US military in my area do first time physicals and other screening... only 4 women out of about 500 enlistees.
cypressgold you may have seen four, but in other videos out of 600 there's more men than woman. :)
