No matter what your told or how many videos you watch, nothing can prepare you for what happens when you're there. Always remember DOR is never an option. Embrace the suck. Semper Fidelis
@@nativewarrior39Drop on request......quit.
Good thing you pointed out. People outside don't get you can quit the Marines in that early phase, without too many issues. The DI's excel at "motivating " poor performer's. Its in their oath. We will not give up on you, even after you've given up on yourself. Its sad when you see it. DOR is rough when you observe good intentioned people that volunteered to join get sent home.
To all the soon to be shippers always remember; be loud, be fast, do what you are told, don’t make yourself too known as a troublemaker. Fastest way out of boot camp is by graduation. Other else than that, keep your motivation up and drive through one day you’re gonna look back in boot camp and think all the shenanigans you went through and laugh about it.

I was Army Infantry for 8 years, went to Fort Benning (Fort Moore now) 20 years ago (I'm 37). It's always good to see younger people joining up, regardless of branch. They are definitely doing something that most of the population won't or can't do. 🤘🤘
It’s not hard…
@@ZennithZX No shit, I didn't say it was.
It’s not hard but like he said people don’t want to join, can’t pass the asvab, or have some medical/moral issue that won’t allow them to join.
And that you couldn’t do
@@randygravel2057 that who couldn't do?
You dont need to be a tri athlete to make it. Train accordingly and rest a full week before you ship out. Make sure you can run 3 miles in 24 minutes or less (aim for 21) make sure you can do a 1:30 plank (aim for 2 minutes) and make sure you can do at least 5 pullups palm out from a full dead hang (aim for 8-10) if you are at those numbers before you ship you will be physically ready for what Boot Camp will hit you with. Physically, the mental part will be up to you and how you deal with it (homesick, being told when to shower, when to move, waking up at 4 in the morning etc.) Its what you make of it. If you quit, you will spend an extended period of time in receiving a place called RSP. RSP is where your soul can truly die, so the fastest way out is to graduate.
I run 12mins for 1.5m miles, 2 minutes on plank, 19-20 pullups. at 17, you think i will be able to handle what they make me do at bootcamp? i go next weekend
@@d33738 Physically you will be fine for the IST and probably even the PFT, those pull up numbers are excellent. But just remember man it's a lot more than the physical aspect at Boot Camp. The initial high of going will wear off after a week or two and that's more or less when the real mental test begins. Fatigue sets in, homesick sets in, the games start getting to you a little bit ( like running back and forth from your rack to the line with your ruck bag because someone keeps fucking moving on zero) getting smoked in the pits (IT sessions) early in the morning because you didn't get to shave because you were instructed to help make the racks proper for other recruits while everyone else was shaving and brushing their teeth. Shit like that. It gets better after first phase dude, just remember that. When you go on Fire watch, enjoy the silence. Reinforce in your mind why you went there. It's not impossible, move fast, do what you're told, scream when spoken too, keep your head low ( don't be the fucker always getting in trouble) listen and pay attention to what the DI's tell you and you will be fine. Good luck man.
@@d33738 I responded earlier but I guess UA-cam deleted it due to censor ship smfh (just describing a bit of Boot Camp with colorful words) With those numbers you will be fine man. Excellent pullup count btw. Just understand though, it's not all physical in there. After about two weeks the high of going will wear off and that's where the real mental test starts. Playing the games, getting smoked in IT, being home sick etc. When you go on fire watch, use that hour to enjoy the silence (assuming a DI doesn't come through and asks for the count) reinforce in your mind why you went there. It gets better ( a little bit anyway) after first phase. Move fast, scream when responding, keep your head low (don't draw attention to yourself by being the one who can't follow instructions) leave your ego at home, you're in their world and you raised your hand for it ( a lot of recruits come with a macho mentality and quickly find out that will not fly) give 100% with everything you do. Pay attention and listen and you will be just fine. Good luck man. Rooting for you dude.

Advise to everyone going to bootcamp, Have plenty of cardio exercise by that means make Sure you can run 18 min in 3 mile. Sounds off all the time, take it one day at a time. This will be the most memorable and biggest achievement in your life. been out for 20 yrs.
In addition to cardio, if you're going to San Diego for boot camp, I'd get into rucking and do it on his as much as possible. This is because West Coast Marines do their field training on Camp Pendleton where it's very hilly. So I'd seriously start practicing rucking up and down hills, the steeper the better.

So proud of son. If I had to go back in time and had my choice of sons, I would pick my son each and every time!
In 1968 I ask my marine recruiter what was boot camp like, he stated it was a kick in the head, he nailed it!
Went through MCRD San Diego in '76. First thing I said to myself when I got off the bus was; "Mommy! I wanna come home!"
The CAF recruiters told me 15 years ago: "Don't let the yelling in Basic Training get to you."
My younger brother just got shipped out today. 🔥🤘🏼

The scene with the boot camp haircut reminded me of a couple of movie scenes where guys had their long hair get cut down to nubs. Then I also thought that some of the haircut recipients were paying homage to the barbers for their service as well by giving the barbers some long locks to cut. This somehow also reminded of a time when I was walking to my office with a Gunny from the parking lot to the entrance, and I shoved my hands in pockets because it was chilly. The Gunny immediately looked at me, and sternly asked if I was testing her. My hands quickly and promptly came out of my pockets with the reply, no, Gunny, absolutely not. BTW, I was a LtCol at the time.
im goin coast guard active, but marines were def my 2nd choice. Nothing like a proud title of a marine.
You will fail, cry, struggle, sweat, and bleed. But never ever quit. They won’t quit on you. You are the only one who can quit
Was there May 28th 1982. What was odd is in the contraband room we weren't allowed to say a word. No sounding off whatsoever. We had to have those Skilcraft pens in our mouths the whole time. Anyone caught talking had to get up and sing. I laugh at it now, but it wasn't so funny then. Ah, the memories!
Yes sir I said that in regards to uniforms they don't have to spit shine boots anymore and I've watched several videos addressing how they don't treat recruits like they did when I was in I will always love my fellow devil dogs they just have it easier than what we did my mos was 0311 so I was a hard charger anyway but love my corps love to all that served in every branch we all signed the dotted line to protect our beautiful country

The DI’s have tailored sleeves on their Service Charlies, and I’ve never seen that anywhere else since I joined NROTC in college in 1987. It looked particularly sharp because details matter. The Marines should have recruiters do the same thing. Maybe even set up a couple day period of instruction with a cadre and curriculum developed by both MCRDs to help recruiters look good in public.
We do look good in public. Just because you've seen a few bad apples doesn't mean we all look bad. You also have to remember, it's harder for us out in the streets to keep our uniforms tailored because we're usually away from military bases and the tailors out in town won't know the regulations like on base tailors would. However, as I said, as Marines we should be looking good regardless.
Sometimes on my monday evening runs, I'll see the busses full of soon-to-be recruits on their way from the airport to MCRD. I laugh at them, really hard, knowing exactly what it feels like to be on that bus.
My dad is a marine when i enlisted back in 79 he didn't tell me anything about boot camp when i graduated boot camp my brother and cousin said if i could do it they could do it they enlisted same month i graduated great memories
Also we only wore boots no sneakers

This crap is dumb. They're busy doing this dumb crap looking like fools while their peers are making hundreds of thousands a year on social media as influencers. Rather be an influencer making $100K/yr at the age of 19 then a tool running around screaming and stroking drill instructor ego's.
And these tools will get into the fleet and realize that Marine Corps real life is lame and depressing. At 25 they'll be busy saluting grown men and women, some of whom will be younger than them while their peers are buying homes and making 6-figure salaries. So lame.

When did San Diego start getting female recruits? A lot has changed since I was in, graduated mcrdsd 2006, echo company, platoon 2067, SDI Ssgt Ruano.
In 2021 they did a couple of test runs. Starting in 2023, females from the west coast began training in San Diego. Around the same time, Paris Island's 4th Recruit Training Battalion was deactivated. Recruit companies are all gender-integrated now, though individual platoons are still single gender. Most companies, in practice are still males-only, simply because there are comparatively fewer female recruits.

I served from 94 to 98 as an 0311 the corps has changed so much I feel like it's gotten soft
You think so. I’m a gen Z ( sadly) but I acknowledge the things that are off here. Do you mind being specific as to what’s changed in the corps that made it softer
I been thinking about joining, just not sure if I’m prepared for it though. I’m pretty short and don’t have much strength for the physical side of the training.
There's a 4f9 guy that did the marine recruit training. You can do it if you put your heart and mind into it.
Plenty of people go into the military out of shape and not being able to do ten push ups, or even one pull up, and end up passing basic/boot. I'm currently in the enlistment process for joining the Army as a 19D Cav Scout. Currently 5'11 and 240(mostly muscle though) and tbh the only thing I'm worried about is the 2 mile run. But you'll never know if you'll make it or not unless you try. Send it bro.
Think hard about why you want to join and then if it’s what you want, go for it. It’s funny, I had those same doubts not too long ago. But bootcamp is not that hard, you will get stronger. Of course you should try to get as fit as possible before you leave, there will already be a lot to mentally stress about, making it less physically stressful will help you. I’ve seen short guys make it and a few fat ones too. It’s mostly a mental thing.
I won't lie to you, if you're not in very good shape it can be tough. However, it can be done and your recruiter will help you get into the shape you need to be to qualify for enlistment, but after that it's all up to you. I went into the Marine Corps as someone who wasn't in very good shape, I had never been particularly athletic my whole life, and I'm still not now. Buyt with a bit of practice on my own and with some help from my recruiter I was in good enough shape to pass the Initial Fitness Test which is the minimum fitness level test you need to pass before you can ship off to boot camp. Once I was in boot camp it became a matter of mind over matter for me. I was determined to not spend one extra day at MCRD, I told myself that I was not going to get dropped and I would graduate on time; and I did.
It's also worth noting that in Marine Corps boot camp, it's very difficult, to near impossible to fail. EVen if you have a hard time physically, you will still graduate and beomce a Marine, just not 13 weeks after you arrive. If you aren't hacking it physically, you will be dropped from your platoon and sent to the Physical Conditioning Platoon where you will pretty much just work out and exercise all day until they feel that you;'re good enough shape to continue. You'll then join a new platoon that is at roughly the same point, or slightly behind, when you were dropped. So if you got dropped on Day3 of Week 5, you'll be sent to a Platoon that's at Day 1 - 3 of Week 5 and you'll probably end up graduating with that platoon.
Felt the same way, since I entered Basic at 5 foot 5 and 108 pounds. But I made it through Basic Training and have now served 15 years, 3 months and 6 days. You can do it.
Can yall update the videos?
Tell you drill instructor you request I.T and you’ll be find in boot camp

Don't think too much about it. Join a gym and do a combination of weight training and cardio. Cardio is going to be more helpful to you in the long run. Most recruits arrive with a history of bad eating habits. Eat healthy now, cardio up like crazy, even on recumbent or treadmills, on the soft grass or sand & lift weights. Just enough to tone. Do overdo it.
