Hey Everyone, 9:30 One thing to mention, when my Centurion attacked Korykos, he was Elevated because he was on an Arena hex. Because of this, an additional damaged should have been put on Korykos, killing her earlier. Her fate was already sealed. :) Josh Carlson from Chip Theory Games confirmed on BGG that in solo mode the restriction of only one special (star) fighter draft restriction doesn't apply. That's a PvP restriction only. In solo mode it allows for more strategy. Hope this helps! Cheers :) In addition, I've confirmed that ties are determined by the player. So I'm going to have Ariq Boke attack the Centurion instead as only one potential damage will be inflected. Whereas if I chose the Hoplite (like I did at the end of the video) to be attacked, he would take 2 damage due to being Elevated. But wait! The Centurion has a skill called Parry allowing him to completely block a Basic Atk. So..no harm will come to our House! Thanks for watching and see you in the next one!
I'm enjoying this series, looking forward to the next episode! I've been thinking about getting this game for a while and the solo element of Origins is perfect for me, maybe you'll finally nudge me into a purchase :)
Hey Iain! Thanks for the compliment. I'll do my best to show you the game and to help you make a decision either way. The solo element of this one is very strong. I'm already getting sucked in, but I'm a big fan of Too Many Bones as well. See you in the next video. Cheers!
Hello and thanks for providing the video. I am now also the owner of the game, but I did not understand why you have 2 special fighters in the build. In the video before (Solo Setup at 09:51) you explain that you cannot have 2 special fighters. I am a bit confused and would be happy if someone can help.
Hey Mosh! I thought the same initially, but Josh Carlson from Chip Theory Games confirmed on BGG that in solo mode that draft restriction doesn't apply. That's a PvP restriction only. In solo mode you have all tools available to you. Hope this helps! Cheers :)
@@RollingSolo Thank you very much for the quick answer even though this video has been on the hump for some time. And please continue with the videos they are very helpful.
@@RollingSolo Doesn't the PvP version state you can have more than one starred gladiator but you can't play them at the same time? Rules say you may only deploy one special gladiator.
a) I think that Korykos moves to the Arena hex first before attacking you. Might be important as she then blocks Ariq Boke. Except that you took her out on the next turn. :) b) From the Solo Trials rules -- "If you exhaust all conditions and there is still a tie, the player may choose from the remaining options - use this to your advantage!" Since both units were tied for closest and weakest, you get to choose. c) Just realized that because your Centurion was elevated, it would have done 2 damage on the first attack. Since you took her out next turn, it doesn't really matter. But Ariq Boke is also elevated, so would do 2 damage against the Hoplite in that last turn. Since you get to use the tie to your advantage, you are better off having him hit the Centurion for just 1 damage.
Having the choice for ties is a great strategic key for this game. Very cool. You're right about the Centurion doing two damage on the first turn as a result of the Elevated +1 ATK. As Korykos dies anyway, it seem her fate was sealed regardless. haha Ariq Boke doesn't get the Elevated skill advantage because the Elevated skill only works when attacking units that aren't Elevated themselves. Thanks for the feedback! :)
Exactly! I left that last play completely open and unresolved because I wanted to ensure I knew whether I had the choice in ties. Now that I know that, I'm on board with you 100%. The Centurion will take the hit! I also updated the pinned comment to explain this. Thanks Jean! :)
BTW, I don't have this game, but have been thinking of getting it for a long time, and even more so when I got Too Many Bones. Watching your playthrough has made me want it even more. Sigh, now I have to go beg and grovel with the wife!
Speaking of that, I'm awaiting my order for the entire Hoplomachus suite which should be here by Monday-Tuesday. I'll be showing it in an unboxing video for sure. :)
Great Job. When you hit Korykos first, you should have killed her. You are Elevated, she is not. Korykos was not on a Hex at the start of the second round. She should have moved up on a hex before attacking. (or course she should have been dead, so doesn't really matter :) Ariq Should have done 2 damage to Hoplite, Elevated. I believe any decisions to come down to a "tie", you get to make the decision. Strongest, closest, weakest, etc. This will become important in later trials, because your decision to make the enemies do certain things, within the rules, is a strategy to winning. :)
AH! You're 100% right. Korykos would have been long gone. Can't believe I forgot about that Elevated advantage. However, my Centurion was also elevated when Ariq attacked so the +1 ATK benefit Ariq would have gotten for being Elevated doesn't apply to targets who are also Elevated. So no change there! Great to know ties coming down to my choice. I believed that was the case. Thanks for confirming!
Oh my bad, I thought Ariq Attacked Hoplite, after he heaved him. Not the Centurion. I forget elevated pretty often in my videos as well. It's an easy one to miss. Especially later trials when the Spear and Tribute give you elevated.
Oh! You were referring to that attack. My mistake. Yes, Ariq did attack at that point after the Hoplite was heaved. I should have also done two damage as Ariq was Elevated. However, knowing that I can break ties, I'm going to have the attack Ariq made instead go against the Centurion for one damage. I've mentioned this in the pinned comment for clarity. Thanks for the feedback! :)
3:20 "OMG ... I don't know what the odds are of that ..." XD LOL - statistically that roll should come up in 9.26% of all rolls. But in Hoplomachus Origins - even though it disobeys ALL the rules of probability - it seems more like about 75% - 100%. : \
I know I'm late to the party, in your setup video you removed the second starred gladiator as you thought you couldn't have more than one then in this video added one back (for a total of 2). I'm curious if you can point to the rules or setup section that specifies you can use 2? Thanks, and thanks for the great video. J

Yes, but the Hoplite isn't elevated so it would have been 2 damage to the Hoplite or 1 damage to the Centurion. Take the 1 damage to the Centurion. :)

Once you get it, you will also want the other 2 hoplo games. Trust me, I'm in the same boat after getting Origins LOL

You're in for a lot of solo fun then! Enjoy it Alice :)
Alternate attacks are used in place of basic attacks. It's one or the other, not both.
Hey Dark Seraphim, thanks for watching and the feedback. That's correct. :)

Yes whenever there is a "tie" and the decision is yours, you get to choose to suit you not the AI opponent.
I believed this was so. Thanks for letting me know Stefan. Makes sense in the strategic sense of the game. :)

You have 2 starred gladiators?
Hey David! You’re allowed in solo play ;)
@@RollingSolo Hi Adam, I've read the rulebook and it says you can draft one or two special gladiators, but you can deploy only one per challange.
Aren't you not allowed to draft the centurion and hoplite to the same team? They both have star icons
