    I scored a 100% on the apprenticeship exam. Thank in large part to your program. My weakest aspects were number series and reading analytics of long paragraphs. I bought it, studying five hours each day for more than two weeks. Studied hard. The Local said it would take up to four weeks to get results but they emailed me one day later than I passed. In fact, when I inquired, I scored a 100% on both sections. Thanks to your program I am advancing to the interview in October! Applied September 1. Tested September 21, received result September 22. Thank you.

      @@chucksmith2834 I finished the math exam with 30 seconds to go and the reading section with 7 minutes to go, which shocked me because my math is far better than my reading. Anyhow, yes to answer your question; sources such as Khan Academy is adequate but most of my time was spent on the JobTest company website, studying their material. Algebra equations; algebra functions; polynomials; graphing; number series; absolute value equations & limits; numerical reasoning; long division; multiplication, addition, and subtraction by hand; understanding decimal points in multiplication; powers of 10 notation; square roots; exponents; plugging in; equations; dimensional analysis; estimation for fast paper calculating; and all of the permutations of reading comprehension. Please visit the JobTestPrep website on a computer and take the pre-test. The computer will then display your weaknesses, strengths, and recommend a study syllabus. Pay for the one-month program, get paper, a pencil, and actively, brutally, passionately study with your mind, paper, and pencil. No calculator. I spent most time studying the solutions to wrong answers after each quiz, even the ones I got right. A first this really sucked. It was tedious, arduous, and impossibly slow, to study answers, but studying mistakes accelerated my learning process, minimized my mistakes, and quickened the pace at which I went through all of those other sections. I started very slow on number series, long paragraphs, painfully slow, studying each answer after, but by the time two weeks was done, I was going through several number-series quizzes and two paragraph analytical sections in a day. By the time I took the test I sliced through nearly every section like some award winning surgeon, only "stumbling" on three questions. But I had accumulated so much extra time that I used it to go back and systematically answer those three problems with satisfaction, and check over some other ones. I finished with 30 seconds to go! Some people around me I could see left blank or guessed some answers, on their computer screens. I finished the reading section with 7 minutes remaining and used that time to go back and discover three of my own mistakes, the way I had incorrectly read the problem, questions, or answers, and fixed them. I was happy to have the spare time remaining to systematically go through the ones where the answers were not immediately obvious.

      @@chucksmith2834 Of course; I live to serve. It is my pleasure.When you pass the test because of studying hard, and ace the interview because of excellent preparation, then you will have changed *MY* life! Study hard and know that some will show up to test day with no preparation. The more you study, the more distance you inject between yourself and the other applicants. At my local I also came one hour early. Instructor saw this. He announced it would take a minimum of two weeks for results to become public. They sent my results just one day after the test. I think it is because they appreciated that I came one hour early and looked like I studied really hard; like my life depended on it. Good luck and be well.

      @@chucksmith2834 Hi, Chuck. Simulation tests? Have you already gone through all of the problem sets? I did the problem sets first, spending laborous time on each of the problems I got wrong. I think I was consistently getting 8/10 or 9/10 but I still reworked every problem and took each problem set over. I only took the simulation tests right before the actual aptitude test.

    I took the test a few years ago and did not do good at all. I realized that I need to get good at my least favorite subject, math. At 38 it’s hard to learn from the bottom since I literally forget any serious math knowledge I had. I’m going to focus on practicing as much math as possible and even taking a basic math corse at my local adult school. I tried the IBEW online math course but I’m a hands on type of student when it comes to math, I need someone there to teach me.

      I feel that brother. I've been getting ready using online resources. I am going to take the test soon for the first time. While I'm pretty confident I'll do decent on the test, I'm more worried about the interview. I'm 26 with only a high school diploma and retail work experience. The more I read about the IBEW the more it seems that they tend to pick people with either construction or trade related work experience or people who know or are related to people in the union (which actually kind of pisses me off how so many jobs function on nepotism).

      As far as we know, no work experience is required to apply to an IBEW apprenticeship, but a high school diploma or a GED are required. However, these requirements might vary depending on the local, so it is recommended to contact your local directly.
      You can take a look at some official information on the matter here: local7jatc.com/the-application-requirements/

    Its been awhile since ive done math, expecally algebra 1. I went onto the union webside and found a university of austin algebra 1 study/test guide where im pretty much reteaching myself the entire subject. When doing this, i find myselfs on subjects i find complicated and doubt would even be on the test but im worried ill skip something and it be on the test. I have no idea what specific algebra subjects i should be focasing on. Is there specific ones i should focas on? Or does it vary between different unions?

    • @JobtestprepUk
      @JobtestprepUk  4 роки тому +6

      To the best of our knowledge, the test is uniform among all unions. In terms of subjects you should focus on in the math section, I'd recommend putting the most emphasis on:
      - Functions
      - Equations
      - Polynomials
      You should also hone your manual calculation skills and rehearse long division, fractions, and decimals, etc. If you have some additional time you can also cover topics that are much less prevalent on the test, but also sometimes appear, such as inequalities, averages and percentages, and unit conversions.

  • @aa-tx7th
    @aa-tx7th 3 місяці тому

    if you have ANY questions (and you will if you havent taken it before) about wether or not a specific part of algebra is covered in the test you should just restudy ALL of algebra. thats what im doing. bought high school algebra 1 and 2 books off ebay and im straight up studying, testing, grading myself and then restudying, retesting, and regrading on all sections I dont ace until I do.
    trust me i am an extremely intelligent 37 year old grown ass man and i STILL get anywhere between 70% to 100% right answers AFTER i study and take detailed notes on each section. and i get 100% the first time about 5% of the time. i almost always get something wrong because of some inaccurate assumption or minor detail ive forgotten or never learned. and even the smallest mistake early on will WRECK every single future attempt at figuring anything out cause algebra uses everything you'll learn all the time and it only gets more and more complicated.
    also, you CANNOT afford ANY mistakes on the simple sh!t now when youre safe behind a screen when they'll K!LL you when handling electricity. and you will not be able to depend on your phone figuring sh!t out for you very often, especially out in the field or when your hands are full of god knows what.
    so forget about wether or not youll pass this test. if you arent perfect with your math youre gonna f@%king die extremely painfully one day down the line or blow up sombody's $500,000 dohickey or thingamabob and you're not gonna be allowed to just not pay that lmfao. their insurance WILL sue you and you WILL lose.
    and besides, if you dont thoroughly know even the most basic algebra before you start taking those college classes the union is paying you to take (that IS what your apprenticeship is supposed to do after all...), how you think THAT'S gonna go?
    practice the simple sh!t now until you can score a perfect test so the ACTUAL math later on doesnt stress you out as much. cause it will.
    so do what im doing and just master ALL of algebra now and make at least some of your college classes REALLY easy so you can focus on studying the even harder sh!t for longer.
    cause that union is NOT gonna waste more tuition on your @ss if you fail or drop out. and youre not gonna be a well paid electrician without being in the IBEW or getting REALLY lucky with a decent employer but fat chance of that lol. and youre not gonna be able to spend all that sweet union money if you're f@%king dead or owe a fortune in damages.
